Gold Re-skins just don't feel worth it imo but it's nice they're adding things.
Exactly. There's no point in blowing a huge sum of gil on something you don't even like that much just because it exists and you didn't have anything else to buy. That tells the Devs that we'll sink our gil on almost anything and the only work they need to put in is slapping a high price tag on cheap things. If you like it, great, if not then see if they add something better later. Especially now we know they're open to the idea of fancy gil sinks.
Someone tell me how to become a Jeff Bezos of Eorzea so I, too, can complain about not having a massive gil sink. I must've missed something...
Money rarely falls randomly into the lap of those who sit around waiting for it to appear. It usually goes to those who work to earn it.
So do the game equivalent of what Jeff Bezos did in real life - spend hours working hard providing a service others will pay for. Many players would rather pay someone else to do the work to get the items they want than do the work themselves. I do that work and then sell them the items via the marketboard. I get richer while they get poorer because they didn't want to put in the effort but I did.
Crafting and gathering is not the only way. There are items that come from quest rewards, items you can buy with tomestones and GC seals, items you get from treasure maps and lockboxes, items you get from retainer ventures. There are roulette bonuses for being Adventurer in Need and bonuses from challenge log. HW/SB/ShB daily and weekly hunt bills reward gil in addition to seals that can be used to buy things you can either sell for gil or use in place of gil (hello Aetheryte tickets, goodbye teleport fees).
There's a tremendous number of gil making opportunities in the game if you're willing to put in the effort. If you aren't willing, then you're not going to get the gil.
I don't see the need for a gil sink, but if they want one, then it should be for housing.
That's too cheap.
25 million gil/month rent for a large house
10 million gil/month rent for a medium house
1.5 million gil/month rent for a small house
Double it for FC house.
Please tell me this is trolling. Are you seriously suggesting rent should be somewhere between one third to one half of the price of the house, per month?
If this is a serious suggestion then just forget about it because it will never happen, can you imagine the outcry from people who have spent years making their house just right only to get hit with a bill every month like that? Ridiculous.
Not trolling, but as I said, I don't see the need for gil sink in the first place.
That said, for many people, the issue isn't having gil to have a house, but having a house available. So if we're talking about gil sink, this is at least one way of handling both. People will either have the means to buy and keep a house or they won't. And if they don't, there might be others who would.
I feel the same way toward gil sink in general. I don't see why it's a problem that gil is worthless (or only worth as much as other players make it).
Sorry, still confused. Let me clarify my question: Which idea are you saying I "showed support for in the first place?"
Are you talking about Themarvin's idea? If that's the case, I disagreed with it, hence why I suggested my own pricing. That's why I'm confused with you saying I showed support for it, unless you mean just in general with respect to having a rental cost system for housing.
If they did this there would be about 3 taken plots on each server. Which FC exactly do you think is going to lay 50 million a month down just for the house? I dont have a house either but this will in no way solve anything.
Even then if they could get that money out of their members, those members would also have to pay for their own houses as well. How on earth is that even close to fair to people who have invested years into their houses?
The people who who have invested years into their houses are not in a disadvantageous position compared to those who haven't invested or don't even have a house. They're also the ones more likely to have the gil or be able to make gil if they can invest in their house.
Housing doesn't work well as a gil sink when there are a limited number of houses available.
Your suggested rents are far too high. Most players wouldn't be able to afford that at all, pricing them out of the housing market and thus removing the effectiveness as a gil sink. And most FCs make far less gil than individual players do.
Good gil sinks soak up much of the excess gil getting into the system while leaving the player some gil to spend on other things they want to have. While I'm in favor of having a monthly fee for houses as a gil sink, your suggested amounts are nowhere close to reasonable.
Apologies! Jokes and sarcasm don't always come across in text when you don't know the person well.
*cough*
You know ..... If you all have too much gill , I could be your "gill-sink"
I am sure i could take all your gill you find too much of your hands for a small fee , of course.
And yes, I am joking.
Anyways, wow, you responded fast...
Fair enough, though I still think 3 million gil for someone who can afford a large house is too little. Even these upcoming mounts won't be just 1-2 million gil.
Well, if you're joking, can I not? I promise I don't buy from other players (much) so giving gil to me would be an actual gil sink as my money mostly goes out of the economy.
Add a new move to SAM called "Gil Toss" and have 1k, 10k and 100k versions with adjusted potencies
Housing as a gil sink also doesn't really work since, because of the demolition timer, those with houses basically are already paying a monthly rental fee as part of their subscription. Adding a gil cost on top of that would just be silly.
I think the best Gil sink we already have are the market board taxes, because they are dynamic. When the Gil loses value the prices go higher and because of the percentage nature of the taxes more Gil gets removed from the game. But the taxes are not high enough and should be increased.
However, the economy and the value of Gil is completely broken anyway, thanks to the bots I guess. Stuff you can freely craft and gather does not get more expensive. Gear and food and everything is still mostly at the same price since HW, despite that more Gil is in the game. But everything wich only drops randomly gets more and more expensive, like the hairstlye from Delubrum.
This means working for your Gil gets harder, up to the point where it does not make sense anymore to spend the time to craft and gather.
Tackling the bots wich are flooding the market and automatically undercut the prices goes hand in hand with increasing the value of Gil. Then prices for everyday crafts will go up but so goes the money you will get when you are selling something and the disparity between gathered and crafted and randomlly dropped items should go down.
I don't know how they could make gil more meaningful. Perhaps they could introduce something along the lines of open up your own business with crafted items. Like a shop when you have a house, or a restaurant where food is served. Those might offer unique items only available in those places. Or pay rent, there's a multitude of ways. Something like Island Living but concering gil. The game literally throws gil at you from anywhere so they can come up with something.
Selling Fantasias in-game really would work well as a permanent, infinitely repeatable gil sink that takes no design work at all, besides establishing the shop that would sell it.
Have they even said how much these things are going to cost?
I have a bad feeling we're going to load up 5.5 and these "incredibly expensive gil sink mounts" cost, like, 100,000gil.
Damn. If there’s Fantasia for even 1mil, I bet I’ll go broke in 3-4 weeks lol. Otherwise, 5m-10m range seems neat if they were to implement it
They could start selling clears for gil in the duty finder menu, for casuals who don't want to learn how to play but still want the mounts and glamour from savage content. That would get the casuals the insta-win they want AND kill the RMT clear selling market at the same time!
