Yeah it is sad when you have do weird things to get something to do in a dungeon minus 1-2 spam.

I remember how paladins used to tank.
Ahem. You clearly didn't read my full message:
I know that it's faster if you haven't unlocked a mount yet... but a majority of the times you have to go to the Waking Sands will be after you've unlocked a mount, basically from the level 20-ish quests onward... unless that changed between original ARR launch and when SB dropped? I started playing about a month after SB came out, so I'm unaware of what the level at which you unlocked mounts was before that, but at the time I started, it was after you joined a Grand Company in one of the level 20-ish MSQ's.
And they give free teleports now? That must be nice. lol
EDIT: Actually I just remembered that during most of the MSQ's from levels 20-50 the mount speed is slower than it is afterwards. So I concede that it's possible that the Limsa teleport method would still be faster in that case, if only by a couple of seconds (at least for me).
And, you clearly did not read mine, esp the part about testing something today to get an accurate measure of ARR/HW days which you were admittedly not even here for, which is like, as I said, testing Crystal Tower today vs back in the ARR/HW days. If you started in SB it makes sense you have no idea what I am talking about though since speed boosts and such were added after you started and unlock in west than after the lvl 22 quest which is right after you get the mount and before you need to make enough trips back and forth to notice how incredibly horrible the run was even with a mount. A test at lvl 80 in ShB era is not a good measure against ARR or HW era and being condescending about it, scores you no points. Would you *ahem* like to try and contradict something I said about or tested in version 1 too by your experience or testing it against the game today as well or can we get back on topic?
Isn't that still how they tank? Just replace Flash with Total Eclipse combo.
Even if the Limsa route is a few seconds faster, you pay for it in fiddliness.
Load into Limsa, warp to the ferry dock, talk to the ferryman, skip the cutscene, load into Thanalan, walk to the building.
Or just load straight into Thanalan, get on your mount, run straight until you get there.
No. Sprint, Total Eclipse + Circle of Scorn to pick up > Prominence to finish combo and pick up second half of trash. Provoke any straggler from the inevitable DPS that feels like AOE rotation is boring. Then do an actual rotation by either activating Fight or Flight and doing the Total Eclipse Combo OR Requiescat into Holy Circle x4 -> Confiteor.
This is opposed to Flash as many times as it takes to feel comfortable, and then Rage of Halone combo/Royal Authority until golden brown. Also most people wouldn't sprint, because it took all your TP, even though you didn't need TP to hold hate on PLD or DRK. Which was like their big leg up over Warrior. Though if you really knew your stuff and had V wrath stacks already, you could sprint a bit on WAR, depending on how far you had to go. I remember sprinting on WAR in Baelsar's Wall because if you were going to take all of the mobs between the gate and the final boss, the run was so long, you recovered about 700 TP by the time you had everything grouped.
Also, as far as the Limsa to Waking Sands vs. the Horizon to Waking Sands argument goes... back in the day there were a lot of PS3 players and no PS4 players until a ways into 2.1 or was it 2.2? Anyway, on the PS3, the load times into Limsa were atrocious, and then the whole having to remember which aethereyte to use was a real put off for that method. I used to use the walk/ride from Horizon as a way to go get a snack rq or take a quick pee break.
Mmm, ~level 20 and "Lord of the Inferno" done.
For my first time through, it was more that buying your first Choco required 2,000 GC seals rather than 200 these days and I don't think fates awarded as many either. While you earnt those seals, there was still a fair amount of running to the walking sands to deliver Minfilia's burger orders. A good incentive to grind those fates so you didn't have to run.
Yesterday I got a DRK in leveling roulette struggling to hold trash mob aggro.
I told them to spam AoE and everything was smooth after that.
Then I remembered how much I hated to tank in 2.0 because 3 overpowers would dry my TP.
Good riddance, TP.
I was a PS3 player back in 2013 when I first started playing ARR. Yeah, the load times to Limsa where just ridiculous; I found it faster and less annoying to take the Horizon route to Vesper Bay. Now, they have Vesper Bay tickets as part of the MSQ reward, which is nice.
Thankfully, in 2.1 the headquarters moved to Revenant's Toll, right outside an aetheryte :)
This one is cheap but I didn't see anyone mention big red (not that I read super hard though lol):
I remember watching Dalamud grow large in the sky, the one time assaults by the Garleans, the final days when all the towns were under siege, the only thing you can hear is answers, and Atomos vomiting undead and voidkin at camps with anima rewards like super pez time. And sometimes people would just biff it at the camp haha (if you didn't run away right after warping in).
NMs that dropped unique items.
The gil glitch, of course.
Tanaka classes where after leveling everything you could kit yourself out via the open cross class system to be a mage tank god lol.
Thaumaturge having a kit that looks nothing like it's current one, phantom darts anyone? xD.
Getting rofl stomped by those trees in the Gridania region.
Changing your job mid dungeon for whatever the content was weak against. Oh that there was actual elemental weaknesses.
The gorgeous animations and crisp models. Also the 45 second menu delays and solid 5 moons long animation locks.
I remember when the miners guild was great. :3. . .
Companions that were actually pretty cool. I had the thesaurus lalafell and balmung's eRP spirit avatar miqote.
People talking about flash on Paladin, ooof lol.. I remember. . . 123 123 123 123 123, what's that? AoE time? okay.. 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4. Paladin has come a long way, hope they keep doing neat things with it as I love what they've done so far.
When goobbue would eat other monsters, or snurbles might heal or raise you.
About the only thing from 1.0 that I miss were the environmental interactions.
The class stuff and being able to swap jobs in dungeons was dumb.
I'm actually of the mind that they should just dump the cross class system entirely at this point. It's a vestigial system that only damages identity at this point (although it is very budget friendly solution). Rather than giving each tank a theme'd to their job defense skill we get one same looking skill. Even if the % and seconds and stuff was the same, it would be better that it was to the job animation based at least, but potentially there could be minor differences to add a tiny bit more flavor without massive damage to balance. Like obviously each tank needs a provoke, but they don't have to literally look the same. Under the the description of the skill simply use the word 'provokes' the enemy to give players a sense of coherence cross the jobs. It's not like healers get confused how to heal when they switch to different named 'cure potency X' jobs (at least most of them . . lol).
Love cross class in tactics, and it allowed wild things in FFXI, but it just never seemed to click for FFXIV and only caused problems. Although I do want to say it was cool as Paladin to have raise and stoneskin (not that stoneskin was particularly 'cool' spell when you get down to using it over and over or pre-pulls, these days it would probably be an oGCD on cooldown), but the idea of having white magic was nice. Most of those feelings were swept away in the later FFXIV Paladin though (love my Confiteor), with our bomb tier clemency and holy magics. If they're feeling particularly dangerous maybe they'll grant Paladin a raise that shares cooldown with Hallowed Ground or something wacky (maybe also cuts cooldown timer slightly).
The job changing in the dungeon did cause "if you don't have these jobs then you're not invited". I think if you could change when unsync that could be cool (now) but during regular roulette it'd just be an issue certainly.
I definitely miss the animations, monster interactions, unique nm items, companions, and the like.
Also the Ascians in 1.0 were pretty cool looking, the element they didn't have shadows was also kind of fun cause then you'd be staring at everyone's feet lol.
I remember the memes when Dalamud started to fall... "That's no moon" or the majoras mask moon being pasted over it
Remember when you had to level your sword and shield SEPRATELY? Fun being a 50 Gladiator with a level 23 shield.
Pep remembers. Pep tries hard to forget. But Pep remembers.
