Less than 10% of the overall playerbase actually participates in and completes Savage (more in JPN, fewer in EU/NA). It is by far the minority of the players.

I'm completely against that. lol
The jobs lack more and more variety, the dungeons are already glorified corridors and way, way too easy and now you want to make level synch even more useless than it already is?
I think the bigger problem is that new gear is inherently boring in this game since all you get is a slightly higher number as opposed to... I dunno... new abilities or passives.
Oh look. Expert roulette dungeon capped at i500 in the new patch.... well done SE /clap
This goes back to the issue of only getting 1 dungeon per patch. Since SE insists on putting atleast 2 dungeons in the roulette this means that 1 of them is always going to be outdated which consequently leads to .2 and .4 patches ending up with a dungeon from the previous raid tier and therefore an atrocious ilvl sync. In 5.2 it was Grand Cosmos, in 5.4 it's gonna be The Hero's Gauntlet.
Especially because of the gear synch I don't understand why they have to split the dungeons into Expert and lvl 80 roulette, or why the older dungeons give less rewards than the new ones. They all have the same difficulty because of the synch and with more dungeons in the roulette it would be more interesting to run it.
Since we're most likely not gonna go back to more dungeons per patch this would be the best solution, just live with the ilvl sync and atleast have a more interesting expert roulette experience. I may not be a big fan of it but it certainly is better than doing the same two dungeons for months, especially since one of the 2 is old so you have probably already done that one for several months during the previous patch.
Found my mistake.
I just want more from our gear. Similar to old WoWs gear where getting more pieces of a set of armor unlocked set bonuses that could change how you play your class. I'm tired of the same ole stat sticks and stat armor. That's all they are stats, I'm never gonna play any differently.
I guess , well now you know !
While I'm all for this conceptually and would love more horizonal (like I said in previous posts) I don't see it happening ever :(
Basically, the devs need a paladin to play as expected when in an instance which is..basically 90% of this games content outside of MSQ. So if say a Paladin was built differently and didn't play like a tank should, it would hinder the whole instanced content without major additional balancing. It also creates a lot of meta which while fun can cause problems... a case and point in Guild Wars 2, I played how I wanted to in solo and enjoyed it, but as soon as I grouped up there was a lot of "wtf is this build why aren't you xyzzzzz??"
I kiiiind of agree, but also, I think it sort of misses the real issue here. The real issue is that there simply isn't enough content that makes full use of a set of BiS gear. You can participate in the parsing game, or you can do ultimates, and that's fine. But the reason why it feels like everything gets synced down is because that's really all there is once you hit BiS. Some more content designed for people at max ilvl in any given patch would be nice. Personally, I'd enjoy some 4-person content that is tuned to that level of gear and skill.
Gear drops are forward-looking to prepare us for the content to be done next, not the content we were already capable of defeating without it.
More content is always nice but there's only so much content a single development team can create at a time. It can't all be designed just to keep raiders happy. And there can be occasional conflict in the raiding community itself when part feels like there was too much content added at once for everyone interested to be able to progress through before more gets added (not a problem here, was a problem in WoW at times).
It's why we should all have additional games we play. When we finish the content from one development team, we can start playing the content being made by another development team while waiting for the first to release more.
Level sync is to help keep part of the challenge intact (though knowledge and experience will end up reducing it). Content gets less interesting if it can be overgeared to the point you're skipping entire mechanics (see Praetorium). But if you really want to be doing that, then Undersized party is an option to use with like-minded players who have chosen to join your party (or you join theirs).
Let’s take a step away from savage gear and look at the casual player. They’re most likely wearing a full set of i500 captain crystarium gear made available by simply doing your weekly 24 man dungeon. No the stats aren’t perfect but hey, they’re still i500. Why even bother, why even cap your points each week when SE then cucks you and makes your gear pointless by capping a dungeon every time. You are actually now a high enough item level to complete the rest of the entire expansion. You have zero content to use your i500 gear because SE insists on making item level cap content. It’s not even a logical cap either, it’s i430 mostly which is the level of gear the moment you hit 80! Handed to you by an NPC for zero effort.
There are contents that don't have item level sync, like raids and trials, where better gears will always be useful.
And this upcoming change with 2 dungeons having item level sync at 500 means you can keep using those gears if you want and be at your "best" for those specific dungeons.
I just hate how we one one side are so limited on gear, at least if you play more then one job and how hard we get synched on content... like, what would be so hard to just step materia down a tier or more?
But like it is now, why even bother gettin to 500? Lots of the tome gear sucks and upgrading an ring or smt with 2 yorha coins and later 3 just sucks... we got capped upgrades for capped gear on limited jobs. IE i can gear my dps but there still is my heal and tank too, i have to deceide who gets what. ...sure I can just craft and get decent stuff, fill with raid and primal gear but still...
Playing for a longer time the threadmill starts to hurt a bit... knowing that newer players will always burn through stuff like hell while our upgraded gear gets synched to trash... plus the dam skillsync which is even worse to me...
And the thing about it is that the treadmill is 100% predictable at this point. So that 2 yorha coin upgrade going to 3 soon? The exact reason I didn't use any upgrading my gear earlier because I knew what was coming down the line.
It's the same reason I'm not super concerned with getting gear upgrades because with enough time, they're meaningless.
If I want the "savage" experience later, I'll unsync it. If I want a previous EX mount, I'll unsync it for 90% less stress later in both the fight and the mount acquisition rate.
Some people get a sense of "pride and accomplishment" in playing whack a mole 100 times to get a mount (or get that lucky 5% drop). I don't.
Woooo two dungeons! You clearly haven’t been reading the whole thread. SE releases item level synced content constantly, including now the “expert” roulette. Unreal, synced. Bozja, synced. The content which we can use raid gear is literally savage, 24 man (which I’m surprised they didn’t sync) and extremes. It’s time SE made content relevant to the gear were able to acquire
Its what i do, its IS really fun the first 30-50 times but then its only a chore, knowing im dumb doing it synched, with lower droprates just for the sake of draging the grind and almost synched gear. The 0,1% chance to maybe get that primal weapon and the 99% chance that i need to farm 100 tokken and wait like 3 months or more... there is no reason to delay the exchange more then a month except forcing desperate players to run it 300x...
At the point i got my tokken my desire to help anyone with those trials is like, -100... >_>
Edit:
I also wanna add, im among those who really love to run dungeons, who enjoyed the 2 new dungeons every patch as its a almost daily thing we do it was nice having a switch, now its the old one i run months already or the new story one. And its only story ones so when we gonna level later on from 80-90 we will see those a lot on the 50-80 roulett *sigh*
-at this point im just gonna leave if i see the f-ing whale lol
I dont want free gear or oneshot old content but still... i dont want every grind for gear feel wasted nor do i wanna take 30+ min for an old dungeon due having 3 skills and hard sync...
If we could at least gind 5-7 raid coins a week or exchange the gear for a coin. IMO at least make it so you need either one current coin, 2 from the 2nd tier or 2-3 from the first, depending if youre on the 2nd or 3rd tier...
What i dont get is on one hand they want to sync us hard and all and on the other they give away free tome gear to new players... either let them grind for gear and have the original experience or let us have fun on old content and give them gear. Heck my lala twink reaches hominster soond and will be synched down from her 400 tome stuff or 405 crafted as well lol.
I for the most part agree with your point, but feel that it could be extended to cover other content.
The i500 gear will barely qualify you for the final Normal Mode and Alliance Raids as well as the second to last Extreme Trial. The only real midcore reason to upgrade during 5.4 and 5.5 is to participate in the final Extreme Trial if you have no interesting in Savage or the Ultimate.
I mean nobody is saying it should "all be designed just to keep raiders happy." That's a pretty crappy argument from someone with a clear bias and agenda. The entire point of my post was that maybe some more content for max ilvl would help, not that everything should be designed for max ilvl. But you knew that..
So then remove ilvl out of the discussion because it's not really relevant to what you see as the real problem - the lack of content designed for players at top tier skill levels. All a higher ilvl does is nerf the comparative difficulty of content. As long as it's challenging enough, it shouldn't matter whether your gear is 430 or 505 when it's your skill you really want to exercise.
Instead, talk about that lack of content. Personally I agree. Only 4 Savage raid bosses plus an occasional Ultimate in the same amount of time that Blizzard would release a dozen raid bosses in WoW is pretty thin for players capable of doing the content.
So how much additional content would you need to be satisfied? What type of content should it be (beyond the obvious challenging)? What should it reward or would you do it just for fun without any meaningful reward?
How can you say that when I just referred to those same expert dungeons? lol
Yeah, but most of those are side quests that don't really interest me. If I can't queue into it and reliably enough get a party that will stick to clearing it, then I don't care about it, though I will always try new relic quests until I feel I've had enough of the content. Even then, the remaining instanced content is plenty enough for me to enjoy FFXIV throughout the year.Quote:

Castrum has taught me that it doesn't matter if replayability is baked into the content, enough people won't run things just for fun for that to be a healthy way to keep content alive.
Personally, I'm surprised they don't have more of an upgrade grind for your chocobo (and more overworld content to justify it). They just need to give players something to chase after other than gear, because only so much content can provide from that pot.
In my opinion, Gearsynching should be even tighter than things currently are, Dungeons are being overall cleared way too quickly, especially the earlier ones, hell you dont even need a healer for those because a team of 2 tanks/2dps or 1tank/3dps is more than sufficient to clear as good as any Dungeon to at least up to Ala Mhigo.
Sure, if everyone is above ilvl.
But then you get those dungeons where the tank still has ilvl 10 accessories at lvl 60+ and get murdered on a double pull.
Or the tank who is still rocking 260 everything with literally half the defense he should have in Bardam's Mettle getting slaughtered.
If you do stupid things like running with ilvl10 junk, you should pretty much expect to get your teeth kicked out on your first pull, followed most likely by a boot from the party. People do this kind of things in the first place, because they know that they will get away with it.
And as one of your favorite Quotes says, There should be some basic competence within this game, instead of destroying everything fun just for the sake of convenience.
I'm going to have to partially disagree here. While yes, there is inevitably a finite amount of content any one development team can create, especially at the pace which players consume it. FFXIV suffers immensely from a lack of longevity in its content for long time players. Case in point, 5.3 was basically bereft of anything to do beyond Seat of Sacrifice and Puppet's Bunker. At least in terms of content that isn't one and done like the MSQ. This is why people keep asking for Mythic+/"Unreal" dungeons and other such content that is either at our current ilvl or has greater staying power. You'll still run out of content, eventually. But that should come when the patch cycle is nearing its end not 2-3 weeks into it. Basically, unless you're playing the game for maybe five hours a week, you'll burn through everything extremely fast even if you take your time.
And this assumes you do nearly everything the game offers. If you dislike Blue Mage, Ocean Fishing, Ultimate or any patch "highlight." You'll have very little to look forward to in a give patch simply because content rarely stretches long enough.
