Do you have any faith in the Nier plot?

The thing is, the NieR sequel aspect only works for those already familiar with the series. Not everyone knows who 9S is, nor do they understand where the machines or clones came from. And, tbh, they don't have a reason to care. So far, a some people see this as pure fan service. That can change as the story expands, because building a good story will make it mean something. This is as much as a new story as it is a continuation. I also think 2P's inclusion helps this story become somewhat "fresh," since she's canonically a new character, separate from 2B.

You should check out Nier Automata. It's kinda rough around the edges, but it's a pretty good time. And a remaster of the original Nier is coming soonish as well. It's not mandatory to understand Automata, but it's got an interesting story as well. It's a lot rougher around the edges though, though it sounds like the remaster is more than just a remaster, so combat may be improved

Gestalt was an amazing game. I can't wait for the remaster, even though the characters will be slightly different since it's going to be Replicant instead of Gestalt. The same general story should be there though. Between the 2 games I think Gestalt (and by extension, Replicant) was way better than Automata, especially from a story standpoint, but Automata wasn't bad. I just liked the first one better. As far as combat goes Automata was without a doubt better. I do hope that they take this opportunity to fix the clunky combat system that Replicant/Gestalt had. If they do...oh man, it's going to be even better than the first time around, though for me it's going to be almost a brand new game considering the character swapping that will take place. The Father is no more, apparently.

I'm gonna miss papa nier, even though I appreciate that others are looking forward to brother nier. Hopefully they have an expansion or something that adds papa nier in as well. I know he was added to pander to western audiences, but it worked.

Eh, I'm mostly interested in the boss fights and music rolls. The fan service elements of Nier are way too one sided for my liking, so the glamour options so far have been bitterly disappointing.

It'd be great if you could choose at the start of the game. "Do you wish to be a father? <insert father icon here> Or do you wish to be a brother? <insert brother icon here>" Would certainly add some replay value.

I'd buy and play it if I could play as the father. It was a major struggle for me to get through Nier Automata due to how little I cared for the designs of the playable characters. The only character designs I liked happened to be antagonists.

You mean 2Bs outfit from the coffer.
Do you also have a problem with the many sets of gear that appear as regular drops or did you forget about them?
Because those aren't can service-y to any extent.

That's it realy. Nier has an amazing story, which kind of poked its head around in Drakengard although it wasn't consistant.
I've replayed Automata twice since, and while I'm always having fun for the combat, the story has little to no impact on me. Even worse, I'm rolling my eyes most of the time when I kind of feel it's trying too hard to take itself so seriously. There are parts that are just great (and most of that is in the side quests, actually), but the big plot and edgy teenager reflexion on what it means to be human, it's not that subtle. While Nier is an incredibly subtle and well written story.

As for FFXIV, I can't say I cared for the 24 man raid story. I'm curious for the upcoming parts, but I don't feel it's that good (especially compared to Mhach and Ivalice).

The plot is more interesting than all the other 24 man raids so far.
