I will not be disappointed, I only expect what OP suggested but with working features, more content and less lag.
Even if it's the same amount of content, same battle system, and same story, if they can fix the inventory menu, buying and selling, and the markets, I will be a happy, happy man.
Because when I play, I don't want to have to spend a good solid hour sorting out my junk.
I'll be happy with smoother menus and my actions firing off when I hit the skill.
The game is nice. The server lag isn't.
I better not be able to beat 2.0 in a week, or I will probably go on a homicidal killing spree. Gang wars, and shootings never start because of irl crap, it all stems off video game rage (remember when they nerfed CoP missions? that's why tupac had to pretend he was dead for so long)
If lag issues and animation lock are gone and the new maps and mobs are good then 2.0 launch will be off to a good start. If they add stats or materia to weapons to add double attack it would go a long way for combat seeming more interesting between tp moves. Because even in the early build some skills attacked twice or critical hit did. I think most will be pleased with what 2.0 will bring but there will no doubt still be those who simply say in the highly inaccurate phrase "the game sucks".
What i'm looking fwd to the most in 2.0 is the free companies and PVP. These 2 features can make this a different game on their own.
2.0 is an expansion, not a new game. 2.0 is primarily the PS3 version of the game. The PC version will use same graphics engine as it uses now. The PC version of the expansion isn't going to free. 2.0 will be the equivilent of the U.S. release of FFXI (which included Rise of the Zilhart since it was released at same time).
If it were a new game they wouldn't be patching the existing FFXIV.
-2.0 is a new client altogether. in other words we would have to uninstall the current FFXIV to make way for the 2.0's Version of FFXIV
-Maps are going to be extremely different because of Dalamud
-Look at the PDF's and see for yourself that alot of things will be different.. the only things that are going to be the same are the names of the cities, maybe more even.
As far as story is concerned, its def. going to be a different ride then our current story. Once Dalamud Crashes into Eorzea.. Is the story going to be the same?
Also anything in 1.xx won't be made playable Post 2.0.. that to me says its a new game ( at least in my eyes)
I'm sorry but you got it all wrong. 2.0 is no expansion. It is a remake of XIV. New Graphic engine, Yes that includes PC. New server, maps redone from scratch and much more. There is a thread in here with all the 2.0 info we got. They are porting the code from the current engine to the new one, so while some things are being re-done from scratch, some will be built on the existing code. The battle system for one should be pretty much the same but with some tweaks and new features.
It is free for anyone who has XIV currently. Won't be free for PS3 owners or new PC players.
S-E hasn't announced any expansion for XIV yet, they are still trying to fix the game. It was way too broken when Yoshi-P picked it up and so they decided that it needed to be redone and not just patched up. This is what 2.0 is. While this is a remake, they will be re-using a lot of material from the current game so that is why you should not expect a brand new game. It will look pretty much the same but with a lot of things fixed and new features + content. All things that should have been there at launch.
Unless they fix the storyline, and make it more Final Fantasy like. Then 2.0 will be a failure for me.
Well you are going to probably be incredibly dissapointed if "2.0" ships. It may be marketed as a new game... but don't expect it too be.
No one knows exactly what 2.0 will be. But it probably won't be FFXV, which is what you are describing above. Most likely it will be an expansion. I say this based on SE's past behaivor. FFXIII and FFXIII-2 use the same engine. And there is no practical benefit to dumping an existing one that functions just fine for a new one. FFXI was released in U.S. with Zilhart. Then in Europe with Promathia. And then on the 360 with Aht Urgan.
Why would they make the game free for existing players if it's a different game? Do you think making a game from scratch these days is cheap?
If you look at World of Warcraft Cataclysm, this is similar to what FFXIV is doing with Dalamud, Destroying the Terrain the Atmosphere, everything, and then making it "look" like your playing a different game. Because, doesn't look or feel like the Original game at all.
Granted that its still technically the same game.. and the lore of the Original is still there via NPC talk, Storyline progression etc. even with all that said. World of Warcraft looks and feels "like" a different game.
FFXIV is no different in this case...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Short Version: FFXIV 2.0 won't look and feel like the Original FFXIV, but its still the same game reguardless
Don't forget. The new Graphics Engine also. It'll look different for one.
Im sorry but you are wrong again. All i was describing was info that S-E themsleves fed us. If they fail on delivering it again then that is on them not me. I know for sure that 2.0 won't be FF XV like some people here seem to think. It will be the same game, but it will be what we expected it to be when it launched a year ago. The game will play how it is supposed to be, smooth and fluid. The UI will be more 2012 and less 2004. No more or a lot less lag, enough content to call this an actual finished game and all the features we are expecting an MMO to have from launch.
I know for sure you have not read all the 2.0 documents, it shows from your posts and i know your are doubltfull and your are right to be because S-E let us down big time with XIV. But with Yoshi-P and all the things he delivered during the last few patches, i know for certain that he has the right vision for this game and if he is allowed to do what he wants, then XIV will be great. Greater then XI ever was and will be my #1 mmo of all time.
As long as I get my house, new crafting recipies for high levels, more content, and some of the lag fixed I would be fine.
The newly designed areas are a huge plus because I love exploring too.
All of this has been confirmed in interviews Im fairly certain.
If I can have Ninja without utsusemi (but still with elemental nukes/debuffs) so I can just DD I'd be happy too. Though any new classes to play around on would be nice.
Unfortunately for you, I don't think ninjas will be quickly put into the game. There are key gameplay types that just aren't represented well in FFXIV yet like pet and magic classes. I'm hoping for the summoner to be black mage focused, but that's probably hoping for too much, given that the game could likely use another healing class [so tired of white mage summoners =(]. /cry.
Its fine.. instead of condemning... let's try to help each other...
For starters we can let them know that we do, indeed know most of which 2.0 will consist... what we don't know is what will be featured at E3 in early June...
But to enlighten anyone that thinks we don't know what 2.0 is bringing... SE actually released a VERY detailed roadmap and several supporting documents that describe what will happen in the coming months
This Page
And the links at the bottom of it give a pretty good idea of what we're in for
I think they're going to do a better job with Summoner this time around just by looking at how they handled Bard. Yeah, its kind of odd for Bard to be mixed with Archer, but it gives them utility and still actually lets them do something more than run in circles casting buffs/debuffs. The way they've limited jobs to only be able to use abilities from two classes also helps give the awkward hybrids and unique jobs more defined roles than the old subjob system. They want Summoner to be a support/DD class? Restrict its class abilities to THM and PGL or something, so you *cant* equip cure and get relegated to being the healer with a ton of MP. Focus on Mana regeneration and management abilities, with the summon itself doing your damage and casting buffs/debuffs/light heals/DD spells to add utility. A well played SMN that *wasnt* stuck main healing back in FFXI was a tremendous boon to a party.
I also loved needing to unlock more summons by fighting them, but I think you should get a *few* more freebies than just Carbuncle this time around.
Archer became bard because they didn't know what else do to... If Archer's job makes them a better damage dealer then people rage...
If archers job is a DD that can't do any more damage than Archer and people rage
So they made it support and only a few people raged
I'm expecting pretty much a lot of what we've been told about 2.0, and if I'm disappointed? Well I'll just have to wait to cross that bridge when I get to it, no foul no harm done.
Specifically -
Optimized Graphics Engine
Linkshell Management Overhaul
Battling Chocobos
UI Performance Increase (Continued Reduction of UI-specific Lag)
New Maps & More Zones
Customizable User Interface w/ Addons and Multi-window capability
More Content/Quests
Drake Mount
i would really like to see some screens/videos of behind the scenes; maybe porting old areas and graphics to the new areas and engine or comparing the graphics and an example of the hardware recommended to use (since it should be much more favorable with the new engine). even a sneak peek at ideas for the new UI and concept art!
would love to get a little more insight on 2.0!
I'd also like animation lock removed.
Things I'm mainly looking forward to :
-New and better designed maps
-More Endgame content
-And the stuff I really want them to add the most ~ More jobs.... I'm getting tired of only 7 jobs to pick from when a party consists of 8 people. There is barely any diversity. RDM DRK NIN SAM where are you :(?
If this game feels and plays in 2.0 like it does now SE will not see a cent of my money afterwards. There's no excuse for how bad this game feels to interact with... no other game feels this sluggish and bad.
I love my character and I love my group I play with, but very sadly that can only take me so far... especially when costs money to stay aboard.
Well, to put it bluntly, of they showed the game now at e3 would ok. The game is miles ahead of the released phase 1 1/2 years ago. So, in other words, 2.0 would be for me a bonus. The more the merrier. This last patch with the jobs and story wise was great. I just wished they would add more story content that you could do not only with a group but solo. Why I say that, because its hard to enjoy the story content wise when you have to skip the cs because of time based dungeon and your party is already half way into the fight while you watch the story. The inns helped remedy that, but on the go story is what makes you enjoy a rpg-MMO, IMO and not replay the scenes after. Back to the question put by the OP, the game is getting better day after day. Can't wait to have all the features put in place with 2.0 which couldn't ATM because the engine won't allow/too hard to implement.
As far as what's outlined and announced, a lot of the core changes, and new content will migrate right over to 2.0
I really don't think the gameplay / battle system is going to change much at all beyond just adjustments and updates like we've been seeing.
3 Things. Living, breathing areas, PROPER FUCKING GAME ENGINE and Greatsword DD Class/Job. That's all and I'll be in bliss^^
If they remove animation lock this game will look awful.
This game has improved leaps and bounds over what it was. Aside from a little lag and anticipation of new features not yet implemented, I'm very happy with the current state of the game. There are minor (gameplay) changes that we can expect, UI differences, new content, better servers, and a new client that runs smoother and on more machines that the current version, but the basic framework is in place now. Anyone holding out for a drastically different game from what we have right now should probably just move on already.
I don't care what anyone says, you buy a game first because you like the way it looks. The gameplay just decides whether you keep said purchase. No one buys games for gameplay. If they say they are they are lying, because you dont know what the gameplay is until you play it yourself. You know what the graphics are by looking at screenshots and box covers.
And I can count on one hand the # of ppl who would buy and play a game with crappy graphics. They'd play old ones, but not new ones. If FFXIV 2.0 came out looking like shit you wouldnt even buy it.
