The problem is step 1 takes an hour, step 2 is more then likely months away......
It's simple. The way to fix something people have an issue with isn't to go to the hard extreme in the other direction. People want something to do in the game in order to progress. People want to accomplish something but don't want to grind for hours on end, nor do they just want to be handed something; They want a middle ground.
I’m starting to wonder if the FFVII team raided the XIV team for resources to help them catch up. It’s starting to feel like that, or the studios that Yoshi was using in China got hit way harder by COVID-19 than anybody is saying.
Eureka was heavily complained about until Pyros and Hydratos, but Anemos and Pagos when on content was extremely boring.
My issue with Anemos was that it was a glorified FATE grind, which we've had in previous relic tiers but sold as an homage to FFXI endgame (like Abyssea) , but didn't feel like it was. And levelling was not that great.
That said, I felt it was a step in the right direction and I had my own suggestions for tweaks back then, which essentially builds on the leve system to create forced spawns (perhaps based on certain criteria) that is claimed to your party, which give them more room to design mechanics around team effort than the stand face roll of a FATE. This would be a better homage and be more interesting.
I'll see how I feel when I play it, if its just a first tier, then I'm less likely to complain, because the first tier of ARR relics was easier and was just nice to have /a/ relic for your jobs without massive grinds.
So I'm less inclined to cry fowl just yet.
I was literally thinking this reading through the responses. I remember people slamming Eureka when it first came out. Before this, you'd still see people going, "I just hope it's not another Eureka."
What changed?
And just to be clear? How exactly do you earn the durable AF this time around? I keep seeing people talking about an Ex trial? Is there a new one that's been added?
Disappointing that it is short, but I will take it over the atrocity that was Eureka every day. This stepis most likely just so people can get their weapon and get attached to it. I am fairly certain the next step will be very much like Eureka so that people can do their beloved fate train again.
And now we should wait another 3 or 4 months (if not more) for actual relic grind, after one hour duty, great. Muh content, still waiting for minion farm btw.
There's nothing to do other than raid log is what changed. I was hoping the relic would be something to do in the game to fill time. Instead its an hour worth of content and an ex trial i'll probably be done with in a day or two. shadowbringers may have good story but it is SEVERELY lacking in the content department.
also, i know this may be surprising, but the voices of people who never got to pyros and hydatos don't represent the entire community's thoughts on eureka as a whole.
There is no dyeable level 80 af weapon. Dyeable job armor is earned from tomes from the EX trial, although I'm unsure if its the 80AF armor or something else.
We also have to remember they added relic tools to grind out as well, though I'm not 100% sure what that entails.
1H content is perfect for me.....I like it! & actually enjoyed how it was done, very impressed!.
As far as Grind on Grind there is other mmo's for that & they do it better & more "Balanced" content & the don't lock you out & leave gaps in stats when you level beyond like FFXIV does & has done since ARR. (legacy player)
But I do see some good points online, DOH/DOL to grindy, DOW/DOM not grindy enough at least by comparison.
Eureka though... No. Eureka content as stand alone would be ok, but not for progression equipment in this game, because the "Japanese Rinse & Repeat ethic" (If you have an issue with "this" i highly recommend you watch Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!! 2012-2020 new years specials to learn its non-debatable Fact! with no ill-will. or play FFXIV...& keep an eye on each patches content/gear) in this case of gear every 3-4 months makes it a useless endeavor before you even begin for anything beyond crafting materials. Probably why diadem/rebuild worked so well..... Don't even need hindsight to see that one.
If you enjoy the game as is, good for you.
But the sun often shines brighter outside of the well.
Huge dissapointment.
I was waiting this patch because I like doing relic weapon.
I was ready to do a bit of farming and common relic stuff.
And... there you go, get your relic and wait til next update.
Really..?
I died to the first boss, it does allow you to go back in at the midway point.
I don't understand people's complaints. Do people not remember Zenith weapons? Awoken weapons? If anything this had way more meat on its bones than any of those, at least it was actual content instead of FATEs. Plus, we haven't had 2 EX trials in a patch since 2.2, and this is the most relevant having two has ever been.
Welcome to every relic introduction the game has ever had. Its nothing new
Oh the grind is coming you can be sure. I'm happy to see the weapons are relevant at 485 with 5 materia slots. I have lots of roles so getting them for those is neat and lot of alts as well. This I think will get a lot more people started with relic given the first step is easy. They said it would be and it is.
Not surpised at all that its short. They have given us Expert recipes, ishgard restoration and ocean fishing. So one or more pieces of content was going to take a hit somewhere, sadly for FF14 its a game of give and take between us and the devs. Until SE gets off its rear and gives the team more resources and better support we are stuck with what the team can give us.
The hit that we supposedly already took was less dungeons per patch and no ultimate in 5.3. Also Ishgard Restoration was just collectibles and slightly repurposed diadem with actual rewards. Hardly what I would call "new innovative content worth trading a good relic step for."
That Relic took me less than 1h to get. Nice now I have nothing to do until the next step arrives.
I noticed that we got very limited content in this patch.
The beast tribe Qs were very poorly made and the most boring of them all, we got only 1 dungeon, we go almost no Relic content aside from few cut scenes which I appreciate still but no gameplay content.
It looks like the devs is doing something else in parallel and they got no time to prepare a proper patch.
What we got is very short fillers.
What's happening?
That’s funny. Whenever any of the relic steps are even the least bit lengthy (let alone the first) I see endless whining about the grind here and on reddit. SE can’t win for trying.
Not worried at all. The first step is ALWAYS easy. The second step is ALWAYS super grindy. People freaking out per usual on the forums too. Yup seems like a regular relic patch to me!
EDIT: Also, this gives me more time to work on the crafting relics too so much appreciated.
"Skysteel tools can be enhanced further by completing the story quests that will be added in future patches. Please note that enhancing these tools may require players to invest a significant amount of time." - Straight from the patch notes enchaning them is where the grind will be.
Hmm...
On the one hand, getting the first step relic quickly is nice. Especially for me as due to being bored to tears farming E8 for weapon tokens, I was left with just the 430 AF gear weapon (I'll get around to crafting stuff... Later...). Though, it would have been nice to at least have A step released alongside the initial weapon.
On the other hand, there seems to be a complete lack of content in this patch. With no grinding for the Relic (Which, is also not very good if you've already farmed out a 490 tome weapon or gotten a 505 Savage weapon), this means that all there is to do is the EX Trial for 480 gear (Which of course, is not very good given that tome gear is 490, if you haven't also done E4-8 and gotten the 480 stuff).
Outside of that... There's the Crafter tools? I dunno how they compare to the White Scrip or Crafted tools though. Nor how much farming you'll need to do to upgrade them (Is this step in the game right now? The patch notes talks about farming items to upgrade them)
I suppose this might be more substantial content if you hadn't done the Ivalice raids yet...
Also, any reason that the AF gear is being left in the dust this time around? No upgrades for the gear and the relic isn't built off of the AF weapon like was the case in Eureka...
Oh boy! A mountless easy EX trial slapped together with entirely reused assets down to the music i'll be done farming in less than a week probably and a 30 minute (if even) solo duty i can only do once! How could I turn down these delicious table scraps! How could previous engaging relic content like Pyros and Hydatos and Baldesion Aresenal ever compare to it! You're right it's absolutely worth losing dungeons, deep dungeons, and ultimates and delaying the actual potentially fun relic content!
Personal opinion of course, but I'll gladly take one hour of story-based gameplay over a hundred hours of doing the same thing repeatedly to "progress".
So if you deliberately set the game to easy mode, it's so pathetically easy that it doesn't count as worthwhile gameplay? Who would have thought...
Surely it's on the player to not do that if they want to get maximum gameplay value out of what we got, whether it's "enough" or not?
Different people are entertained by different things. I didn't like all of it, but there were story moments that I got a lot of enjoyment out of.The solo instance was stunning, and I liked having the Scions turn up for the battle - even just the moment of Thancred and Urianger working together to shield the party delighted me, because I've loved their odd long-term-acquaintance-friendship dynamic during Shadowbringers.
I agree it's surprising that we got the weapon so quickly, but I can't say I'm at all disappointed.
Edit to add: From the progress I've made on previous relic quests, they seem pretty heavy on the technical mumbo jumbo themselves.
Apparently it does save your progress, but only so long as you don't leave the instance. So you wouldn't have to go through the whole thing again if you died in a later fight, and it's an improvement on previous solo fights where you had to start over, but I don't think they can "hard save" partway through or you might not be able to leave (e.g. if you found you were undergeared and struggling).
Here I was hoping this could at LEAST keep me interested in playing until the 10th for FF7 Remake, seems not.
And how was Eureka bad... most people I play with liked it quite alot. Comparing it to all older content it is one of the few things that is still done today in large groups. What is bad is what was just released.... a solo relic quest in a multiplayer game that gives gear better then the latest ex fight... and it takes what 1/4th the time to do compared to clearing a ex trial in a static group.
SE needs to learn... there are people who play this game more then 5hrs a week........ and we need something to do especially once you are clearing savage.
ARR Relic Weapon first step:
- Pick up an item from a zone
- Get a Crafted Weapon (Uses items dropped in Wanderer's Palace if you want to craft yourself) and double Meld it
- Do a unique Trial vs Chimera
- Go through Amdapor Keep
- Kill a few overworld enemies
- Do another unique Trial vs Hydra
- Beat Ifirit (Hard)
- Beat Garuda (Hard)
- Beat Titan (Hard)
- Buy some oil for 15 poetics
HW Relic first step:
- Farm FATEs in every HW zone for crystals until you have one from each zone.
StB Relic first step:
- Get 1300 Protean Crystals
- Get 3 Pazuzu Feathers
ShB Relic first step:
- Do a solo duty
- Watch some cutscenes
With the extra weapons being:
- Have 1000 poetics
Even with the nerfs (I.e. Buffs) to HW crystal drop rates, ShB's first step is probably the shortest one. Even with the 1k poetics a pop, given how easy it is to farm poetics these days.
Im liking what i am reading here. I have bace relic for all my classes in ARR, but all the subsequent expansions, my weapons have lagged behind because of how difficult/tedious the first step was... still dint even have a Eureka weapon for any classes. This will be a nice change and then i can focus on one or 2 classes to completion as they come out
They add more content to this game in one patch than most MMO's do in a year.
Plus FFVII remake is coming out... dont need to be grinding relic weapons right now. Need to be in FFVII
Who cares, eureka was garbage anyway and more of that is the last thing I want. Why should they make us grind just for grinding's sake? Personally I'd rather they reverse their decision to scale back dungeon releases and it would be nice to get something innovative for once in terms if party content. Like a harder version of 4-man dungeons or something.
I like this new relic and am glad that they are not doing Eureka again.
