I also experienced this error, using PIA to download from Japan allowed me to get around it.
Also having the issue, tried changing DNS, downloading as admin, removing firewall (and setting a new rule specifically allowing the update program through the firewall), changing my IE settings, using two different VPNGate servers(one in Japan, one in the US).
Nothing works.
Very frustrating. Even should I find a VPN that works, we should not have to go to this extent to download a simple patch.
This never happened before 5.1. The same router on the same network downloaded 5.05 fine, and the same ISP downloaded every patch going back to mid-2018 before that.
5.1 had this problem but randomly 45 minutes later it worked without any settings changes.
Now 5.11 will not download after two hours of trying. Infact the first ~160MB patch file DID download, but the second file invariably fails after ~20 MB.
The ONLY thing that has changed in the intervening time period is the new launcher.
Melbourne, Australia with the same problem. I also had issues with 5.1 but that resolved itself after a few tries. This time nothing seems to work :(
Hello everyone.
I’m also getting this issue. The same error “Unable to download patch files [30413][25008][20495][20495]”
I’m from Australia (Perth_ so don’t know if that plays apart of the issue. I’ve also tried using the older client still with the issue.
is there away around this to fix the issue and download the files outside of using a VPN.
This issue started happening with the first 5.0 update, and now again with 5.1 needed to use a VPN in order to download the update files.
Thank you for your time and have a great day!
Shizu
hmm, still no posts from staff about this issue
also having issues, both with 5.1 when it came out and this new one, this is beyond a joke now
This has happened TWICE (now and the last patch) and we've still received no word from Square Enix about it. Our products that we pay for are not working and we're entitled to a working product (without needing to use a VPN).
They may not even acknowledge it in the end :(
All this missed game time
Yeah, I'm on to the second night unable to download.
Player form the Philippines here. its the second day and its still nothing.
...and i just resubbed.
I'm also experiencing this issue....again (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...08-20495-20495)
The solution posted in that thread that worked for me last time has not corrected the issue this time, and with this being the 2nd patch in a row and the wide variety of fellow Aussies experiencing this issue (based on this thread) I really do think the issue is game side and not an issue with my ISP or my computer.
Fun fact mate, I've been having this issue since 5.1 launched, those 'fixes' didn't work for me either, thankfully my partner was able to download that patch.
5.11? Neither of us can download it. Not even on PS4.
As the OP said, this is extremely frustrating. So many people, not just those in this thread, are paying customers and are unable to use the service paid for and the fact that SE can't even make a statement after this long is extremely poor form.
Those trying the VPN method, make sure you choose a server in america to get it to work. Any australian sever will end in the same result of connection errors and unable to download the files. It seems to be some sort of localisation error maybe. US sever on a VPN is the only thing that worked for me and my fellow australian FC mates.
Yeah, I did. It was in my first line, all the 'fixes'. In quotes because no one should ever need a VPN to download a patch, or to disable a firewall, change dns settings ect.
Sorry, if that came across as snarky, it most certainly wasn't meant to, I'm just really frustrated, trying several times every night just so my partner and I can play a game together is extremely frustrating.
IMHO, the fact that it works for some and doesn't for others just highlights to me that there is some issue that is on Square's end, it really is crazy to expect players to have to mess around with settings or use a VPN to just patch the game, especially when we pay a subscription.
We're the consumers here, it really isn't too much, IMHO, to expect the service provider to fix the issue (and the very least acknowledge it!)
I've just attempted a fresh install, but it's still failing.
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...2/Untitled.png
Then I tried installing on a laptop, which also failed.
Finally I used windscribe VPN. That one worked for me.
Try switching to the old dark loader. I had to do that to get mine to install. After install I switched to the light colored loader. (Does this make any sense?)
Update : Manage patch the game with windscribe after several VPN doesnt work (even ghost vpn)
but still, this is not a solution at all. You have to buy the game, pay the subs, and now you have to use VPN to patch? I give up.
I tried that in desperation, but was pretty sure it wasn't going to help - the launcher is just a "skin" after all. And unfortunately it didn't work.
I've tried tethering my phone and connecting via a 4G mobile network: didn't work.
I tried changing DNS to several different providers: didn't work.
I've tried two different paid VPNs connecting to servers in several different countries: didn't work.
I'm in Australia as well, not surprisingly. This isn't an internet provider issue, it's too widespread for that. Not to mention I've been playing since launch and have never had a patch problem before this week - and nothing has changed about my PC or my network.
We need a solution to this, as we literally cannot play the game we're paying for.
The worst part is the way the launcher instantly exits after the patch fails, meaning every attempt requires a fresh login and a fresh one-time password. That gets old fast...
Day 2, still getting this issue. Have also tried both launchers, multiple DNS, PC resets. >.<;
What really hurts me is that there are now 7 pages on this topic - SEVEN pages and who knows how many people having this issue who simply haven't posted, and there is not one word from Square Enix. NOT ONE WORD. I can't help thinking if we were a bigger slice of the subscription base there would at least be some response.
I appeal to you Square Enix, do not think of us in terms of which country we're from or how many dollars we bring in, but instead are we not all Eorzeans? Whether we play in Japan or Yackandandah, we all love the wide wonderful world you have created and we're anxious to get back to it.
For Eorzea!!
Yep. Day 2, still no dice.
Tried switching to the old loader as well, nothing.
At least acknowledge we exist, tech supp staff. We know you've been reading the forum because you've been answering other tickets. We know you're aware of this thread because it has a post deleted icon.
Answer us. Even if you don't have a solution, just say anything
EDIT: Did a tracert to the akamai server being used by ffxivlauncher to download the patch. The tracert completes in 5 hops with no timeouts. This is not a routing issue.
In Adelaide, Australia. Unable to download patch files with the error codes shown here. Tried all the suggested solutions but none worked. Contacted ISP and they stated it is NOTHING to do with them but specifically a problem caused by SE.
In Mildura, Vic. same issue here though i had none with 5.1 and trying to contact support is hopeless
Still not working over here in Melbourne, Australia.
Melbourne AUS, here.
Been having this issue since the launch of 5.0.
Every single update I have to mess with my dns, purchase a vpn, change the properties of my game files, etc etc etc. Sometimes it works, sometimes, like with this patch, and the 5.0 patch, im unable to play for days.
I paid $30 for the base game, another $180 for all 3 major expansions. I've paid for multiple optional items, and I've invested a little over 1000 hours of my life into this game. The fact that I'm dreading every new content drop because i know this bug will take days out of the sub time I PAY FOR, is fucking absurd.
I wouldn't be as upset as i am if there was recognition. Just a "we know this is an issue, and we're working on it.". I'm happy to be patient, wait out a fix, but please at least recognize that there is a large portion of your paying customer base that are genuinely unable to access the content that they pay for.
Tried to patch again as I woke up. Problem still occuring :(
Is this our new reality after every patch? Or perhaps will we never get to play ffxiv ever again? :(
Still having this issue, I should NOT have to go to a VPN. Square, give us a fix!!
Edit:
I can ping Elemental, which has my server of Tonberry, just fine. This is suggesting to me there is some other issue not related to my ISP. Every solution posted (bar a VPN, I want a fix, not a bandaid I need to re-apply every patch) hasn't resolved this.

Hiya.
Same issue here and I logged a ticket with sqenix helpdesk and got the same responses.
So here i thinking, i should do what was advised.
Everything dutifully tried. Nothing works.
I even used a VPN from multiple locations.
Really hope Sqenix can come up with something.
Updated:
Pleased to report I found a workaround. Can give it a go if not yet tried
Involved changing your DNS settings.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...4132500820495/
Trying a third vpngate server and flushing dns has worked for me.
The culprit is the file ffxiv-2019.11.06.0000.0000 - once I downloaded this ~30MB part of the patch, the rest downloaded off my regular ISP connection without incident.
Support team, you did nothing whatsoever to fix my issue, but for posterity's sake you might want to identify what about this particular file is breaking the download. (Is it served off a different Akamai server to the others?)
I nevertheless don't consider this a permanent fix - it is absurd that we should have to go to these measures to fix your patch download process and I've no confidence that this won't just happen again in 5.12. Literally 30MB of your 440MB patch was blocked for me. The rest was fine.
Seems to align to what I'm seeing as well.
I wonder what could be in that first chunk that is causing us all so much grief for a region? Its amusing though that we've figured out more of this problem than we've heard regarding it from square at the moment.
FIXED (for me):
The solution from Reddit mentioned above worked for me when nothing else, not even paid VPNs, would.
I changed my Windows default DNS to 4.2.2.2 as per the Reddit post and flushed the DNS cache, and finally that allowed the patching to complete.
For those who'd like to try it and be sure they're not messing up Windows settings, do the following:
1. Download a free tiny app called QuickSetDNS from https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/quick_set_dns.html (it's a handy thing to keep around anyway, as it lets you easily switch between popular public DNS servers like Google and Cloudflare)
2. Run the app, and press Ctrl+N to bring up the "New DNS" setting (or choose it from the File menu)
3. For "DNS Name" make it something like "FFXIV Fix" and under "DNS IPv4 Addresses" just type 4.2.2.2 then click the OK button
4. Highlight your new DNS entry in the list and click the green dot at the left of the top menu bar.
5. Right-click the Windows 10 start icon and choose "Command Prompt (Admin)"
6. In the command window type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press enter
7. Run the FFXIV launcher again and this time HOPEFULLY it will patch
8. To go back to your standard network settings, back in QuickSetDNS highlight "Automatic DNS" and click the green button.
No guarantees, unfortunately, because what fixes this seems to vary from person to person. But this worked for me, and hopefully it'll help someone else out.
My guess is that Square Enix screwed up the rollout of the patch files to the CDN servers in this region that our launcher would connect to based on location (you're not downloading patch files directly from Square, but rather from a global network of delivery servers, probably Akamai). The fact that the fixes all seem to involve making the launcher think you're somewhere you're not puts some weight behind the theory.
Square's complete silence on this has been disgraceful. Only they have access to the details of how they roll out their patches, and only they can troubleshoot and fix it, but they're instead just completely ignoring the problem.
It's almost like they're thinking "oh, it's just Australia? Doesn't matter then."
Progress finally.
While the walkthrough above didn't completely work for me, the dns address of 4.2.2.2 after some additional fiddling did manage to get me the patch.
Thanks for the help Audrena. At this rate they should hire and pay you :P
Issue is still on-going on my end.
It's completely mad that we're expected to download 5 different VPNs and obscure apps just to troubleshoot. Major kudos to everyone posting fixes but this does not absolve Square Enix of the responsibility fix their launcher or at least provide an alternate method of downloading the patch files. The same issue has popped up in 5.1 and 5.11. Are we expected to sign up for VPNs every time a patch goes live? We'll run out of free trials quick, especially considering there's no guarantee a VPN will work even if we download it.
One good thing has come out of this as far as I'm concerned - the FFXIV community is AWESOME! Thank you so much for all the suggestions. Betternet worked for me in the end. I cannot deny that this experience has soured me towards the game though. I don't know if I want to keep supporting a massive gaming company that hasn't even bothered to respond to part of it's playerbase, let alone fix the issue. They will just wait until eventually this thread dies out and they can breathe a sigh of relief......
until the next patch.
im also located in Australia and am having same issues ever since patch 5.1 which worked after a few hours later but now with patch 5.11 yea no luck have been in contact with SE help desk and have tried everything they have suggested but alas no luck, this has never been a problem for me and iv'e been around since before 2.0 launched still using the same internet ( but now on NBN ) and same modem so i doubt that the issue is on my end.
really hope that we get some answers and clarity on why this is happening
(Edit) used a friends VPN with allowed me to update game it's not the most ideal fix but for now its working we'll see if it happens next time there is a patch
