I have been playing since 1.0 and I still have massive amounts to do in the game. I don't do Savage either. I have 4 battle jobs at 80 but only one is properly geared, my BTN is 80 but needs a lot of gear/material, no crafters at 80 yet. I have all my trusts to finish levelling, an Amaro mount to get, all my FATEs to max in the First areas. And 5.1 is ONLY JUST AROUND THE CORNER OMG!!!

I play every day pretty much unless RL dictates otherwise. Couple of hours at night in the week, 4-5 hours at the weekend. So, yeah, there is loads to do. If you don't want to do any of that, it's fine, but please don't say there is nothing to do

Casuals subsidize your experience. How much are you willing to pay to be casual free? $150 per month? $1,500? $15,000?

We do need to acknowledge the differences between flaws and intentional frustrations, though. Square Enix has been, as of late, working on tons of QoL improvements that were only left to the imagination years ago. On top of that, they're planning on soon condensing the ARR story quests. Those are two of the most common complaints right there, being addressed.

However, you can't always cater to a "more players is better, no matter what the cost" mentality. Do you really want people who can't stand blood and gore playing first person shooters? They aren't the customer base. They aren't the audience.

Some of the things that are deemed frustrating by some people are here to stay. That's okay. The question is, how can Square Enix make FFXIV better at being FFXIV?

You do realize that most weekly clear PFs list the chest they want to go for, right? “Weekly 2-chest”; “1 chest”; “no chests”. I’ve never seen an issue with players listing the number of chests within the Party Finder description, since the chests are primarily what players are interested in. While a checkbox toggle would be nice, there are still descriptions that distinguish 2-chest parties from the other parties. If a PF doesn’t have a description dictating the number of chests the party will have, you can also just /tell the party leader and find out.

This seems like a very small thing to go on a rant about. It’s a QoL feature at best—but it certainly doesn’t hinder you in finding PFs for Savage. As I said in your other thread, the only way players generally struggle to find 2-chest parties are when they wait to run the content until Monday night, 3 hours before reset.

I feel like one of the biggest problems with getting change to happen is that there is some very definite bias towards the JP side of things when it comes getting any communication to go through properly.

Case in point: random tiny two page topic about the RMT bots on the JP forums gets a STF representative to respond to it and claim that they're trying to step up their measures (Which I have actually noticed as of late with ban waves occurring more frequently). Meanwhile, we haven't gotten a peep from anyone despite having dozens of multi-page topics on subject throughout the course of the average year.

Maybe if we get the JP players to notice all the DoL/H/whatever bots on their servers they'll start doing something about those, too.

He stated he doesn't do Savage which - as far as I am aware - is what folks who have 'finished' the game call 'endgame'. I have 'finished' the game too in as much as I have got to the end of the current MSQ. Like this poster you are referencing, I don't do Savage either. Of all the points to try and insult over, this one seems kinda weak. Other games have "auto-loot" and it's quite nice. If a person is always clicking greed (I do if I'm not looking for leveling gear or glams), it would be nice to just be able to set it that way for a run.

Also, little tiny fixes fit into a category called Quality of Life updates. A good portion of QoL items look like it wouldn't be worth time and effort, but they can make such a big difference in the overall enjoyment of a game.

I agree with your general point OP. Though without you offering specifics I have no idea if we'd agree on what we think needs working on in the game or not.

I generally think the developers are relatively in tune with the community, but like, in slow motion, or slightly faster slow motion when it comes to the Japanese community. They are seemingly addressing the most glaring bullets-in-the-engine problem now of the 2.x content.

I'd like to see them try to add more things that new players can engage with early on in the game to keep them interested (New level-sync questlines in old areas would be nice)

Ofc PF for savage is dead on the weekend, since everyone who PUGs it and knows what they're doing gets their clears on tuesday or wednesday. The further down the week, the more skilled players have already cleared and go to do other things, so PUGs become more and more of a sh*tshow of "leftover" people struggling with clearing, or you get helpers who already cleared so there is less loot, 0 chests if you get unlucky. Waiting till the weekend for pugging is literally the worst thing you can do.

Your are sorta right, but at the same time, there used to be more parties up before. Now the game is kinda dead during the weekends.

I wonder if it's because they're waiting for the next patch, but I've never seen PF so empty since it was made data center wide.
So yes, for savage it's not a good idea to wait until the weekend, but for everything else it was fine.

Probably people who came back for ShB and are now waiting for 5.1, more and more people being done with mount farms etc. Moogle tome grind in PVP doesn't help PVE content PF either.

Yes, that what I'm thinking, most people not subbed or waiting for next patch. My FC is dead for the first time in 2 years. I'm the only one online right now.

What I also notice is that many people are not pro active. They need something but don't make parties for it.I know a ton of people who need HW and SB mounts, and when I did farmparties they were always joining. Yet since I got all mounts and retired from running farmparties I've seen none of them starting their own. I mean I get being partyleader can be annoying, but that's the price you have to pay for getting stuff done ^^

While I'm pretty sure that pre-patch-lull plays a part in this, I'm also wondering if the growing popularity of Discord might be another one - while I'm personally not using it much outside of our FC-discord and personal chats, I know that there are quite a few big discord-servers dedicated to specific aspects of the game so I wouldnt be surprised if part of the matchmaking process happens there instead of PF - not even in the form of forming statics but just setting up a group for the next evening in advance instead of putting up a PF.

When it comes to Ex-primals and PF we also need to consider that woth the crafted ilvl450 gear and the Eden NM drops being 450 aswell gear-drops from Innocence and Titania are not excatly worthless but have at least strong rivals. Why put up a farm party for either when you can buy gear of the same ilvl from the marketboard or get your quick and easy Eden NM loot for the week? Not even to mention that you'll be using tomestone-gear (or Savage) for your main anyways, so even less reason to get a Titania-weapon or Innocence-earrings.

Wow, some people sure are sensible.
I make my own parties, but yesterday none of them filled, farm parties, savage learning parties, both were unpopular. I had to do one with 7 instead of 8 (Tsukuyomi ex) cuz the 8th person was taking a long time to join.

That's interesting.
I've only joined a couple of discord servers for hunts, but one had way too many rules most people just didn't post, and the other wasn't very active.

Citation needed. Where did they say this in regards to the crafting system at large? I remember seeing mention of adding some challenges for crafters to take on, but at no point was it mentioned that these challenges would be present in the wider crafting game.

I'd also argue that removing cross class abilities from crafting is more along the lines of "dumbing down" than not as well. The vast majority of the changes they're hinting towards for crafting appears to be about making it easier on the whole and not more difficult.

Using SB to refer to Shadowbringers is confusing due to Stormblood.

Otherwise, they seem absolutely set on the timing of their patches. 3.5 to 4 months between big content drops. We should all expect this at this point. I don't think that complaining about it is going to change anything, not matter how many of us do it or how vocally. Having a fixed release schedule with an established understanding of how much can be accomplished within that timeframe makes too much sense from a project management standpoint.

From the perspective of someone who was playing FF1 back in 1990, XIV has done more to regain my interest in the series since content that was released on PS1. The release of FFX on PS2 killed my interest in the games and this one has done more to regain my interest than any of the PS2 era and later games.

1. HOUSING. Make it instanced or extend appartements at least. And please get rid off the random timer, because its not needed anymore.

2. GLAMOUR. More slots on wardrope. 1.000 or 1.200 would be nice. And please add it as furniture for Housing.

3. RAIDS. Stop restricting loot when someone joins with kill already. Having one friend helping out almost ends with 1 or 0 chests. Especially because of the lack of healers, it would be nice, that ppl with ID wont affect loot for the group. You can make it, that the one with IDs wont get any loot this week, but the group still get 2 chests.

4. CHARACTER CREATION. More options please.

5. MOUNTS. Add wings as mounts : D

This so much.
Would a couple of parties exploit this to get more loot out of it? Probably. But honestly, who cares? The vast majority doesn't have multiple alts and doesn't even want to go through the effort of "exploiting" tho. If irl gets in the wy so you didnt get your clear right after reset, you're pretty much fked. Wanna train e4s eventhough your static is still progging e3s and they dont have time before thursday? Well, too bad, you can't do practice bc you'll be ruining loot for the 7 other people of your static. The whole system is a complete mess, and that comes from someone that is pretty lucky with rolls, I've seen people who didn't win a a single piece in 20 kills.

The trouble is that there is no "area" which outright shoots down this plane generally. Its more apt to say, keeping with your analogy, that the average player who quits suffers to much overall damage to the structure of the plane it only takes a small bit to shoot it down.

In any case, we are seeing the ebb and flow of players real time, something that is built into the game. No amount of money is going to make it so that we'll have fresh and new content every month or so. It's just not a feasible business model, and probably isnt healthy for the game realistically. There can be such thing as to much to do, counter intuitive as that may sound. There are also other factors to consider here too. I personally am not aware of the full extent of play habits of our eastern peers, but I know that western audiences savagely devour content. Our appetites for stuff to do and game to play is pretty absurd when you get down to brass tacks. We, as an audience, burn through new content rapidly, opting to play it to death than space it out and enjoy it slowly. How many people got to 80 in a day or two when ShB dropped? How many people got there in a week? Id hazard quite a few got to 80 pretty quickly, and a fair some (1/3 to 1/2 Id guess) probably got to 80 in a week or so. It took me two-three weeks IIRC to get to 80. That was me taking my time and rolling around doing all sorts of stuff. But I know I wasnt the norm.

This is part of the problem. Even if devs had more time and money, it wouldnt be enough. Thered still be lulls in content, still be people saying "Theres nothing to do." and so on. This gets complicated because people have their own wheel house and dont venture from it. People power level alt classes instead of playing them. They skip cutscenes, dont play Hildebrand, turn there noses up at GS, dont try crafting/gathering, etc. Theres a ton of content in this game, but people by pass it or power through it without reading any text. Plenty of people havent cleared 04S, 08S, or 012S. Why not go back and play those fights unsynced for fun? It's a blast in an FC run, even if people arent great at savage.

The game is appealing, btw, to a pretty large audience. Its sub count has been steady or climbing overall from what I understand. If were trying to measure its success compared to WoW at it's height, FF is never gonna stack up. No MMO will. WoW is a very specific case of being in the right place, right time, with the right set of ideas. And I dont think they're focused on pleasing their dedicated players, per se. I think they're more focused on creating a solid product that has a fairly wide appeal to the average MMO player. They dont always hit the nail on the head, but theyre doing an alright job for what they got. Particularly with ShB.

If people are burning out, or not finding fun, maybe it is best they step away from the game. I dont just play FFXIV. I play all sorts of other games, or watch tv, or go places. Part of what keeps a game interesting is moderation too. Like anything, to much is a bad thing. Pizza is amazing, but if I have it 3 meals a day, 365 days a year, Im probably gonna hate the stuff after a few months, let alone a year.

I do not bother with PF because I have found a reliable static group to do things for 2 hours a night for 2 nights. That's it really.

Also I have kind of been happier stepping away from Raiding scene and working on housing and professions as my current end game. I have a loooooooooong way to go. Also RP'ing with my FC has been taking up entirely too much of my time.....the game is currently catering towards my tastes.

Theyre trying to mitigate against carrying people for gear to fast. Pretty much what they dont want to happen is by week 4 people just run groups of 6 or 7 who can clear the content and power gear one person by letting them have all the chest drops. Why bother trying to Clear the Tier for Gear when if you have enough Gil, you could just buy your clears and get geared. Now people would be able to do this eventually, sure, but they are slowing that down by forcing people whove cleared to not party with people who dont unless they dont want chests. Particularly with the last boss of the tier.

Just a little sidenote in regards to PF being "dead" here on Light - same DC as OP: Its 8:30pm on a monday evening right now and I counted one PF for E1S, two for E2S, 4 for E3S and 6 for E4S... we're about 12 hours away from the weekly reset.

Honestly, who cares if people buy clears? As you already stated, they already do anyway. Setting up a system that sucks for 99% of raiders just to slow down the 1% from buying/selling clears is stupid. There's a point where the negative impact on enjoyment of the game outweighs the positive effect of that restriction. You don't want people selling raid clears in your game? Then don't design raids that can be done in only 7 minutes with only 8 people because they're just a single room with 1 boss.

I only reached level 70 .. I have never been in savage raids. But I played many games (mainly WOW and Ragnarok Online). I really like this game, so I left the creation of Blizzard. In WOW, I was the top 5-7 support in the world. And I’m very tired of the pressure on me and of the WOW toxicity. That's why I don’t want to be in raids and in guilds. I do not want to depend on time and be responsible for something.
This game really surprised me with the players. I have not met such patient and kind people in other games.
I’m going through the main scenario for the first time .. and I must admit, even Hachiko did not make me express as many emotions as the main story of the game.
Dungeons I would like to see more hard content in this game. I mean the dungeons and the battles with the primals. Do something like keys in WOW (with delicious rewards for completing the dungeon). And add beautiful clothes, a chance to get a mount, improved equipment, items and more.

Items In Ragnarok I really liked the card system. From every creature in the game, with a very small chance, you can get a card. Each creature has its own card (Bosses also have their own cards, they can give more advantages of course, not such as immortality, etc., but the chance to get it is equal to 0.01%). These cards can be inserted into equipment (like melding). And give you some benefits when you wear them in your clothes. For example:
Apkallu card - Max SP +10%, SP Regen +2
Nariphon card - Avoid sleeping effect
Li'l Murderer card - Ranged Attack Damage + 5%.
Domovoi - Increase damage on Boss monster by 10%.
Croc card - Receive 5% less damage from Long Range attack.
Koja card - Enables use of Level 1 some kind of spell of some class.
And so on.
It would be nice to see such a thing in the game as Speed Potion (a potion which increases the moving speed of a character for a duration).

Character And it would be great if I had the opportunity to hide the cat's tail in underpants or under a dress. Make more hairstyles, more facial creation variations.
Housing I am very offended that someone is driving me out of my own home when I go to bed there. I enter the game and I am on the street. It's not fair xD I would like to see a glamour dresser and a mini market in the house.

Sure, a valid point. But its kinda weird to reset the loot by 50% when only 12,5% of the group got ID already. I would understand if 4 people already got the kill so you reduce the loot by the same amount. PF groups are f***ed, because healers are even more rare these days.

Buying clears is part of the problem because it hurts teh game in two ways. First, it lowers investment from players end. Why spend time honing skills, gearing, etc, if you can just buy a clear with 10 million gil and walk around acting big about it. Cause whos gonna know outside of the fflogs crowd. It goes back to the issue of if the game is to easy, people will have less investment in playing it. Shortcuts to what should be gated lower the game's difficulty. However, buying clears is not against the ToS. So the best way the have to mitigate against it is to limit how fast you can acquire gear. Or would we suggest that we have raids that can be completed only if you have 8 people up at near 100% uptime on the boss? Cause that would jack the difficulty of raid bosses through the roof. It means you cant have near any deaths no matter what.

The second issue is that it hurts the hardcore community directly, which will turn those players off the game and subsequently impact teh community at large. Its gonna eventually be a bug bear to the more hardcore crowd that their hard work and efforts are meaningless if anyone with a bag o gil can just purchase clears and get all those chests and gear up faster than them. It may not seem like a big deal to non raider players, but it would be something htat would generate resentment over time. There's plenty of raiders who already have a lot of disdain for people who buy clears currently. Incentivizing that system wont make things better. This is bad for the community at large because it sends a message to potential new players or average players that to achieve good gear when that gear matters, you just need to pay people money and not have to grind up for it. Its gonna make the demand for RMT go up, botting go up, give the impression that the game cant be that hard if you can gear up in a week or two if you have the gil, make the game feel either to easy or to scammy, etc. for MMOs that do incorporate a raid tier, you need that to stay healthy because big gear with big numbers and big glowing effects is always a (temporary) symbol of status.

For game health, it would be a bad idea to have a system that incentivies buying clears and gearing up absurdly quick so long as you got the gil. Hence the restrictions the devs impose.

If you want to get 2 chests pugging it, then be on Teusday nights after reset. If you wait til the weekend, its gonna be harder for you cause all the more serious raiders have cleared by then. If you cant play Teusdays or Wednesdays, then form a static that can do it on a timetable that works for you. If you wont do the latter, then I dunno what to tell ya frankly in that regards.

buying clears does not cost 10 million gil, it's more like 200 dollars.

People are already buying clears tho. Sure it will take them longer to gear up, bu it's still already happening. I don't feel my achievements lessened tho, I know I did it legit ith sweat and tears, and they'll always know they bought their way through it. If they want to BS themselves, let them, I don't care.

Again had the same problem last night: My static is still progging E3S on thursdays, and we do E1S and E2S clears on tuesdays 8pm ST because that's when everyone is home and available. After that, our members that already have E3S down go on to PUG it, that's usually 9-9.30 pm STwhen the initial weekly 2 chest rush is already over. Last night we sat in PF till 1 am because there were no healers. But we knew delaying it to wednesday night would make it even worse so we kept waiting. Finally we got a full party and at 2am we cleared with 2 chests, 3 hours before I have to get up and go to work lol.

We could clear E3S first while waiting for our static to show up for E1S and E2s... but oh wait, you can't, because then you locked yourself out of loot for 1 and 2 automatically, costing your static 50% of their loot as well. The current system "get your clears in order within 1-2 hours after reset or you're screwed" sucks donkey ba**s, plain and simple.

In that regard it's even discouraging forming statics with people who didn't progress as far as you did, because then you'll have to respect their schedule AND still somehow get your remaining clears with a PUG after playing with your static, so every delay that occurs with them will make things worse for you. It's actively discouraging and sabotaging teambuilding amongst people with different personal progression statuses.

This game has lasting gameplay, as a casual player. I think this is actually the design philosophy based on some of the quotes I have read other players post. The PvP is awful, the high end PvE is average. This game is great in medium bursts, but then there is nothing to do but grind casually. Do things like mount farming, leveling up alt classes, achievements, and glamour farm.

Unfortunately for me, no matter how much I like the game I burn through all the content I like quickly. Personally, if this game had better PvP I could see myself actually playing it more continuously. I just have nothing to do anymore, yes I technically have some things to do like what I listed above. I do not have every class at 80, but it just isn't interesting, AT ALL, to level classes. Sorry. It's boring, completely boring. I don't need gear for anything. No real point. Savage gear would be cool, but completely unnecessary for almost all content. I probably just need the break I have been taking now. My biggest gripe still is the PvP, I have always been more of a PvP'er. Well, I never really planned the break. I just stopped logging in, didn't get the urge to play anymore.

Forgot crafting, it's decent in this game. Crafters have this to play, but not much gold sinks. I won't touch that though, also boring. My highest level crafter is like level 26(?), and my highest level gatherer is like level 2..

I'm not a fan of the way looting works in savage and would like to see a change or two there, no other really big complaints though.

This, the rampant botting problem, and various QoL nitpicks are the only real issues I have with the game personally.
