That is true. I don't doubt that they must carry on, and that the world is unforgiving. I just doubt that their world revolves around a free-to-play MMO and that SE as a business revolves around said free-to-play MMO.

The business and economy of Japan DOES NOT revolve around this game, and certainly does not revolve around a single player of a F2P MMO whining about how the downtime of it's servers 'directly affect' them.

But then again.. I am 'Only making a point' or 'questioning objective thinking'. When in reality I am saying that this thread, this game, these players... mean just about jack squat in the bigger picture.

Getting the doctors, the schools, the retailers, the manufacturers, the farmers, the producers and the providers back online is the priority.

Claiming that a free-to-play MMO shutting down servers is going to be the downfall of the economy is just plain selfishness and stupidity.

I'm reading this thread and wondering why all the angry emotions. The OP only stated that "technically" the servers may be up tomorrow. If they are then that is wonderful for the people at SE and anyone that their revenue benefits. Which is a lot of people regardless if it is a sole driver of their economy or not.

No one was whining about SE's forthcoming decision. I believe most of us here hope they can get back on their feet quickly yet support any decisions they make in the mean time. I know I do. The best thing we can do for Japan, besides donating, to charity that benefits them is keep interest alive in their many products and businesses that drive their economy.

Shazaam, you seem to want to really defend the people of Japan and that is great but they will need us to stay interested in everything they have to offer. The more we have hope that the servers (and their economy as a whole) will be back up the better it will be for them. No one should feel bad for keeping interest in FFXIV because it's a game. To many families it's much more.

One more thing I would like to share. I have family in Okazaki, Japan and besides morning for friends and family from Northern Japan, they are relatively unaffected by this. What I mean by that is that they are going on about their day to day business. (Just some in site to how strong Japan is currently as a whole.)

Looks like Sony and Nissan are set to resume production this week. Sony on March 22 and Nissan on March 24, this could bode very well for SE and its fanbase. Personally I don't see the servers being restarted until March 28 or so.

Hmm I just hope it come backs soon enough, my boredom levels are in critical >.<

Because when a MMO. ANY MMO. has their server go down for unscheduled maintence and especially for prolonged periods, you get a bunch of people who want the servers up ASAP and they start bitching about it.

Japan is no stagnant, its in shock, about 300.000 from 130.000.000 people were affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Do the maths, its 0.20% of the entire population. Yeah, we know its sad, people died but the country it's not collapsing. You guys talk like entire country was destroyed.

The people making those products? The operators who manage the servers? I mean, they'd have to in order to continue to do what they do, make money, and provide for their families, who probably appreciate their efforts, especially at this moment in time. That's just my guess, though.

Yes lets shut down the whole game and entertainment industry. It is surely what Japan needs after a catastrophic event like this! Especially as billion figures are being thrown around as what Japan will needs to rebuild.

That's not really entirely true. They can make a contract with TEPCO or something like it. Companies being able to function is the first priority in the Tokyo area.

S-E has had electricity since the crisis started 24/7. Their official forums nor the lodestone have been down at all.

Totally agree with you. I hope it will be sooner but realistically speaking i think it will be later than 27th.

They'll come back online when they come back online. Everyone can talk, but no one know what everyone involved is thinking, until they tell us. Patience...we will find out more tomorrow.

In regards to OP, Squenix may have an update for a timeline on the operational status of their online services on March 22, but we may not necessarily have the servers up.

I couldn't keep reading. I don't know how old you are or if you understand how business works, but video games are an industry. Meaning they generate jobs and income. It's great that SE decides to adhere by the power failures Japan is having at the moment, but it's a business. Yes a nuclear blowout would be horrible, not because of the video games or anime or whatever you like about Japan so much but because it would cost a lot of lives and land...but what is SE going to do about it other than this? It's a business and a business can't just sit on its hands and survive.

Also, the country is not down lol. Was America down after Katrina? Oil spill? 9/11? The stock market closed for one day but opened the doors the next because it's a business. Restaurants in New Orleans opened as soon as they could move the debris and get the people coming back. Saying the country is down is just degrading to them. Sure I'll give them my prayers and a little money...hell if I had the time I would travel there and help out with some homeless stuff (I'm a chef :o ) but the world doesn't stop.

They know this and the Japanese are one of the hardest working people out there. I didn't take offense to what you said by the way....I just thought you were an ignorant retard. And yes I do hope the servers come back up as soon as possible and I will be pissed if they are down for another month. Why? Because one coast line isn't the whole country. IF a nuclear disaster were to happen, as unfortunate as that would be to the country and people...I bite my tongue.

Something interesting I found out today, there are two power grids in Japan, one for the east/north (including Tokyo) running at 50Hz and one for the rest running at 60hz.

With only a limited number of frequency conversion stations to swap power between the two grids, the unaffected regions can only be of limited help with power generation for the East, so the blackouts need to be implemented.

The rolling blackouts are there to prevent the whole grid going down, so I don't see that situation changing in the next week or so. I'm actually wondering if we'll see a timed startup (e.g. 8/12/16 hours a day) prior to full service resuming.

Actually, while the problems at the reactor aren't solved yet, the energy situation has been defined as improving lately by the news, mostly because they managed to put some thermoelectric plants back online earlier than expected. The shibuya area (where the SE server farm is) is exempt from rolling blackout as well, while businesses are still voluntarily saving energy.

So I wouldn't necessarily exclude a reopening of the servers sometimes soon.

What's for sure, is that you guys insulting each other over who is more compassionate about the current situation in Japan isn't helping anyone. But I'm sure you aready knew that, right? :D

hehe man i cant help but laugh at the current situation of this thread, the left hand calling the right hand emotionally unstable for asking about the situation of the servers, and the right hand screaming at the left hand cause the servers are not up. Man this is some awesome comic relief while I am at work thank you for providing me some more entertainment.

Have the feeling they will put the servers up again, but I wouldn't mind if they did not. It's not that I don't want to play, but I just hope they provide help where they can to improve Japan's current situation.
