I get where you're coming from, and I almost feel bad saying this because it looks like you put quite a bit of effort into your post, but your argument kind of flops when you take into consideration the fact that not every single little piece of gear has a sense of individual job identity, especially when gear sets are reused and shuffled into other roles (such as the Filibuster/Royal Volunteer sets).

As a RDM main slowly but surely shifting towards maining DNC, it's really frustrating that I can't glamour this nice new outfit I made on a class I've been playing more often, and even moreso trying to find decent substitutes that I can wear on it.

Yeah? Well what about a Monk or Samurai running around in a frilly nightgown? Edengate Striking set says hi. Without a doubt those flowing robes allow for freedom of movement.

Just because we already have some item that break the theme and immersion, doesnt mean we have to go further

We already have tons of glamour that have no restriction, those collection can get an expansion but I am still with restricting role specific gear to role

Yes please! The exclusivity of classes / jobs in armor really bums me out when making glamour costumes. I really enjoy battlemages and lightly garbed melee classes. It's really fun to design outfits that go against the grain. :)

Its never going to happen, because glamour system is strickly tied with equipment system.
If you cant wear it, you cant cast glamour of it.

They will have to hire a bunch of really good programers in order to sort out the sphagetti code from the previous decade.

All the Nabaath gear is crafter/gatherer gear (and a few Serpent GC items for some strange reason), which is a weird choice - but healers get the Ironworks steampunk cap with goggles, so all is forgiven.

I can tell you the reason why it won't happen:

It's called developer vision and job/role identities.
Sure, SE will occasionally toss the players a bone, like the Shisui and the Ravel gear. Maybe even put event gear out for more glamour options, like the Legacy Warrior armor.

But they will never make this a common appearance, as it would muddle the above mentioned job/role designation and make them less special.

I'm all for opening up class gear for glamour. There is no such thing as a healer looking goofy in metal armour when you have all that nonsense glamour like the dumb Frog Suit or a tank running around in a bikini. We are past that point already.
I'd still want to keep job gear job specific though. E.g., when you see someone in the Drachen armour you should be able to instantly identify the player as a Dragoon.

that's more of lazy design and should not be encourage, and there are some old gear dont fit the role theme, like i said earlier, we have something dont fit doesnt mean all out of sudden have to go down that pit.
What we should have is expanding the non restricted glamours, we have some and we could use more of it

Because they know players enjoy 'fun' vanity items and give them out as rewards to shake up things and have you enjoy something less serious.

But that will never be the norm.

And all of this is thrown out the window because any other leisure item you can wear.
Kinda hard to defend anything when you can freely wear Snowmen and Frogs in dungeons.

With that said, this wouldn't be an issue if they made the gear on here more diverse.
Like the aforementioned healer sets, they suffer the most with the same, tired ol' gowns.
It's very possible to make a healer + tank mix set. They really need some help with making
gear for healers though. I'm so tired of the constant boring robes.

I both agree and disagree.

On gear that isn't obviously class-specific like the job artifact gear, I would like to see those restrictions lifted. I have so many outfits that I could put together but can't because I main a class that cannot use it; but job-specific gear should remain job-specific, no matter what.

Or, at the very least, give crafting classes the ability to 'disable' the class requirements of gear at the cost of stripping all stats from them, and make them glamour-only.

No ones even asking for job gear
Most people want those unique because it what represents the class

But generic leveling,tome, dungeon, alliance etc etc should be for all when stored in glamour dresser (to avoid HW acc scenario but with Armor)

So many times I've gone "these are perfect Shame I can't wear it with this other role lock gear".

I am for this idea, EXCEPT for artifact gear. This includes the crafting and gathering job specific glamours. We need to keep something that is unique for each job.

Maybe also keep the most current raid gear (both 8 and 24 players) locked to specific roles, and then unlock later once the content is old.

But yes, the idea that we don't want new players to be confused by the gear people are wearing is just kind of a silly concept at this point with how much non conforming gear sets we have already.

I would rather they focus on something else than going back to remove restrictions on things that I personally feel should still have the restrictions.

Tanks in bikinis are perfectly acceptable but healers in anything else other than a white robe would cause the fragile lore to crumple in on itself please understand.

Healers get things that are not white robes.

Even with role-locked gear.

And they can wear a bikini just as easily as the tank can.

Do people just choose to ignore the exceptions so they can keep complaining about "nothing but robes"?

Considering they just removed the restrictions for housing style in the different residential zones, so you can bump into a forest Glade house in the midst of Shirogane, I don't see why they could not remove the restrictions for glamour (except job/artifact gear, that is reasonable to keep as it is).

I think what he's trying to say is that tanks, a role that generally requires as much protection as possible, is allowed to do their job wearing nothing but the tiniest little strips of cloth, whereas healers, and casters in general, have extremely few armoured look options.

I look at it like this. Removing the glam restrictions of role based gear (but keeping them for job specific gear), won't make the breaking of immersion any worse than it currently is. In fact it may improve immersion if only because more options will be available for glam that aren't goofy things like frog suits or bikinis.

Since many jobs often end up sharing gear, at least for a time, you often can't really use your iconic look. If my healers are sharing gear and I us WHM gear to glam, SCH and AST are stuck with the base gear since the WHM glam just disappears and I can't change plates unless I'm in a designated area. There aren't even enough plates for every job. If you want to use gear for one specific crafter or gatherer you are screwed.

My guess for while they will never remove it is because if they do that, it removes one of the excuse they can use to recycle the gears in each expack. I bet most of us at one point or another see an armor on a certain class and wish "I want to put it on another class", in fact that's what this thread is about yes? So the Dev can use that as the perfect excuse to recycle gears: "hey, that DRG armor only that you loved and wish to put it on a healer? We just make your dream come true, here is the same armor but healer restricted this time!!"

So no, I doubt there is any complicate reason behind the restriction, but more simple and practical ones for it. They can't reuse the model on another class if they already make it usable on every classes.

That's exactly what they are already doing with the Alliance gear and craft gears. Alliance get the non-dyable version, an expack or two later we see those gears as crafted gears.

Job wise? eh, I was iffy until you reminded me about that STUPID frog suit, honestly may as well remove job restictions “because” of junk like that. Im here nor there with it honestly, but I dont want to see whm running around with those stupid shoulder padded tank gear from 2.0 thats now also in 5.05 somehow either, the frog is bad enough ty lol


However, I would be die hard and fully agree upon level restrictions bein removed. If I wanna buy that lvl 70 special glam gear and level nin from 1 wearing it as just a glamour then let me, that breaks nothing to the lore

A reminder that to remove glam restrictions means a rework to the entire system behind gearing and glamour, because the way the system is setup you have to be able to wear the gear to glam the gear and the gear used as glam has to be a lower level then the target item.

Even if you try to make it so only artifact gear is glam restricted in your requests it still means a massive rework of the entire system. Which is reason enough for them to say no because its a massive project that would delay their content development pipeline which Yoshi-P has already said is not a problem they can easily fix by throwing money at it.

The "quick" fix would be to make gear all classes, which presents its own host of problems.

I am supporter of the idea to loosen up on the glamour restrictions as well.


I think it's fine if they keep the artifact sets restricted to their class since you can really tell that they are made with a specific class in mind but with everything else I'd really lprefer it if everyone can choose by theirselves what he wants to wear. More cusomization is always a plus.

It's also still the case for tanks up to Lv50, and it makes the "recommended gear" button utterly useless. It judges on Vitality substat (IIRC) and will put you in DPS or caster gear over staying in lower-level but higher-defence armour.

Yes, that is correct, you get an ilvl 30 cloak, and it gets put on you over the ilvl 25ish armour.

I came from DCUO and Dragon's Dogma. This game has the most asinine customization. It sucks to be a female rog/nin midlander. There is nothing.

REMOVE RESTRICTIONS ON GLAMOURS DUDE. Anyone with a sound mind pretty much agrees that everything but AF gear should be so.

I propose that they lift the restrictions on the Stormblood PVP glamours and the Gold Saucer glamours first seeing as how they are all lvl 1. It'd be like a test/trial run for them. Something safe. I dunno. Just throwing out an idea.

Came from DCUO 5 years ago and made XIV my main mmo since. Though the graphics are superior to DCUO, DCUO had the superior glamour system, and this is something they had since the damn game launched. With the glamour dresser XIV comes close but it's still not quite there, especially due to their limitations on what you can store. Also I'm all for removing gear restrictions for the purpose of opening up more glamour options.

Do they? We have a bunch of gear locked to role, yet all they seem to do is recolour and rebrand that gear to fit other roles, I've seen plenty of gear that was exclusively for striking or scouting that is now able to be worn by casters/healers, just with a new name and coloration, for example, the Star Velvet Himation of Casting/Healing was a set that could only be worn by casters/healers, but...oh, the lvl 70 Brightlinen Himation of Striking looks awfully similar doesn't it? This is just one of MANY examples.

Really, at this point, the restrictions serve very little purpose but to stifle creativity, by all means, make it so Ninja can only wear scouting gear, but must this restriction also count for glamour too? Why can my monk not glamour the Yaefumi Coat of Scouting, a count that is a literal colour swap of the Yaefumi Striking coat? Make gear role locked to what you can equip, not what you can glamour.

By all means, keep the artefact gear restricted, job fantasy and all that, but the idea that restricted gear creates "role diversity" doesn't hold up anymore, you can have tanks run around in linen robes and swimwear, as well as just recolouring old role gear and re-purpose them into levelling gear for other jobs, clearly they aren't following the rules that hard.

The glamour dresser is stupid and I don't use it. Much better to carry a crazy amount of prisms instead.

So we have some people arguing about Final Fantasys aesthetic legacy, and how tanking in bikinis doesnt make sense, yet every female character since what 7? has worn nothing remotely appropriate to running into battle, generally the males dont either but girls wear next to nothing on several occasions. I think most modern FF players have long stopped associating Final Fantasy even with traditional dungeons and dragons "classes" anymore.
