Oh the SAM 80 is worse, it was just a clip show of the SAM story. I thought it might be reminding the Samurai player of the story as setup for a great new adventure but it just ended.

I think they over-hyped this thing about the lv80 quest. I think everyone thought it would be, despite just one, a very complex and detailed quest...
In the end, it's basically just a little flavor thing for closure on the previous SB quest storyline.
I am up for say a 3 part job quest at 80. I do not need to have 1 at every other level. Heck, if need be, make it where there is a role quest like that, but then give a job quest at level 80 that ties in with getting like the weapon and/or ability.
This illustrates maybe why they've gone for role quests, to move away from the shackles of classes, which is a throwback to 1.0. Why they carried over to 2.0, I'm sure, maybe resources or that it was only later they decided they wanted to leave the classes behind and focus on jobs. Either way, they've been making changes in this direction for some time such as altering the job requirements and replacing cross-class skills with role skills.
What could be cool next expansion is once you've done the role quests, if you get to the new level cap with all jobs in that role, to unlock a special quest which brings together all the characters from the previous class quests.
It’s called cutting corners.
Well get em back in 6.0 prolly
I say only a few are good for this expansion.
Scholar is one of the good ones due to it being linked to the Healer Job Role Quest.
SMN is nice as it continues the story for Fordola and Arevald but I can only guess they are considered SMN Job NPC story characters now so their story may continue only through future Job/Role Quest that involve the SMN Job NPCs.
Gunbreaker is decent but that is expected as the lvl 80 Quest is more of a True Ending for their level 60 to 70 Job Storyline.
That doesn't make any sense:
1) They only have 2 more jobs than SB
2) Look at the number of sidequests in all the hamlets of ShB..
No doubt they have the resources to create those quests.
My opinion is they thought it would have been too convenient to have 18 tutors in the first and too immersion breaking to ask the hero to return to the source while doing the MSQ.
I feel they wanted the role-quest to shine and they had a much better story to tell.
I feel like this is the big reason for the Role Quests.
Incidentally, I was quite let down by the 80 Warrior quest, because while I like Curious Gorge, and I like Dorongo, I hate their romance, and wish that they had nothing to do with each other. Although, with the open-endeness of the quest, is it possible we'll be seeing a bunch of level 80 Job Quests spread out over the expansion? That will augment the armour and weapons we got from maxing the class?
Please? I don't even want to think about it being gated behind Eureka 2.0
Anyone think the job quests will ever make a return?
Job have always being boring for me, except for sam and smn, so no problem for me.
Role quests where fun and on hand with the lore of shb.
Pretty sure they did Role Quests this time around instead of Job Quests because there were four roles (well, five, really, but they combined ranged physical and melee physical since they didn't have enough Warriors of Darkness to go around), and seventeen jobs. The amount of work saved in creating questlines was TREMENDOUS. And, presuming we continue to get new jobs in future expansions, the problem isn't going to get any better. I, sadly, believe that Job Quests are now going to be a thing of the past.
I can't say that I'm pleased with it, but I do understand where they're coming from. And, to be honest, I rather enjoyed the Role Quests; my only beef with them is that they supplanted job quests.
Well I wont buy em and neither my wife thats 2-3 games less sold lol... ik thats not enough to matter at all, but still...
Imo i like the role quests and how they are tied to the msq, but yes it feels lacking a bit... imo it cant be asked to much to think of one story with 4-5 quests per job... i miss the crafter ones a lot.
5.0 is just the first part of an expansion that is supposed to last the next 2 years. There's a lot more to come. Patch cycles usually drop every three months or so...yeah, that's pretty much it for right now but I'm sure at some point there will be more Job Quests along with a ton of other new content. All you do now is just chill out and enjoy what's been given.
I just finished levelling everything to 80, and as part of that saw all the job quests.
It's odd - I came to the conclusion that SE decided partway through development to axe the traditional job quest series.
Some jobs - Scholar most notably - had major important plot developments, a quest beyond "talk to this guy then this guy then you're done", and so on.
Others seemed to be brief comedy sketches - NIN most notably.
And some were like - "hey, remember what you did at 70? Square-Enix remembers" - like SAM.
The role quests were really well done; I can't decide myself if the job quests as is are better than having nothing at all, though.
it's propably because we are in a different world and all of our masters were left behind, the level 80 quest is just us returning to eorzea after finishing 5.0 main story.
I have a feeling the one job quest is all we get. It just kinda wrapped up some of the jobs previous loose ends. MCH in particular just kinda pushed the new NPCs to the front as finally being able to hold their own. The GNB one though felt like it opened the door to the next chapter in quests.
I think the role quests were an alright series, but not really a good replacement. I understand if they couldn't bridge the gap between the Source quests and somehow having in continue in the First, but i feel the lv80 quest could of been given out at 70 and then meeting the appropriate First counterpart at some point. I'm really curious if the First has Summoners and how they do things (If Bismark is a fae in this realm and presumably not using "vast quantities of aether" like every other primal, that seems BIG for a summoner) or Red Mages, or even classes at all. Seems like a huge missed opportunity to expand the lore of the various classes without all the baggage from the Source.
Think? No. Hope? Most certainly.
I've found role quests generic, boring and impersonal. It was mostly about the hunter and the Firsts ex-WoLs. The last two quests, to me felt like glorified role tutorials.
Now I don't think they were bad perse, or that the job quests were better executed, but still.
I would be satisfied with roughly double the length of current 80 quests, but with actual relevant job story content (or something relevant to the shiny new skills we're getting). I guess DRK comes to mind? Without the useless running around.
EDIT: Curious Gorge though? Yeah I really dont want to see him ever again.
Some of the job quests seemed to just tie up the loose ends from the prior questlines, while others seemed pretty open-ended.
I assume the role quests were just a necessary evil of sorts due to the setting of Shadowbringers keeping us out of touch with the original job NPCs. Since we're presumably going to Ilsabard next it gives us more ground to cover with the job quests, plus some of the job NPCs have a sour history with the Garleans that could be expanded on.
She doesn't actually mention having any problems in the aftermath of the quest, so I don't think that's an issue anymore.
