Since NA hasn't had a black chocobo event yet, could be that lol. But I just wanted to add that I don't think most people have Ixion:

Later in the day, SE gets a call from the server maintenance team:

Welp.
RIP servers.
Certain people won't take the time to do it but they will take this time for complaining here if there are some server troubles at 5.0 release...the "reward" will be at the release, the fact to be able to play and have fun without crash server (or less as possible) / error numbersomething ^^ or not having your Raubahn 4.0 example x.x which was really annoying.
Hey thanks for posting this op! I'll be sure to log in and participate whenever they announce a date.
Maybe SE should have an incentive to get people to help stress test like a day or 2 sub extension and/or Ixion horns.
Hmmm. I have never seen Ixion in any form or fashion. So I wonder if this will give me the chance to finally claim those elusive rewards before the FATE itself becomes useless like Odin and the other major world boss FATEs.
This to me isnt going to go very well especially for those on PS4. It currently takes almost 30secs for me to load into certain areas like the city-states or Rhalgr's Reach.
I would most likely never be able to make it and I would like to get Ixion on an alt. But I will give it a try the first few times I guess.
Looks like we'll be the ultimate cause of an 8th Calamity.
They would get more takers if they offer a reward for showing up.
If they didn't do this, people would likely complain during launch week that they DIDN'T do this.
Honestly, any chance to not have to deal with the problems from stormblood's launch again is all the reward I need.
The reward for showing up is getting into the Ixion FATE. If you've already gotten everything you want out of that, great, no need to participate. But it's surely a juicy enough reward to lure in enough players.
Quite honestly, they probably should've considered ARR/HW FATEs instead/additionally. If they really want to stress, better to not have it limited to an area that they'll only access near the end of the 4.0 MSQ, eh?
Yeah it's called beta testing. Asking players of the game to help test various things for a smooth launch. Unless for some odd reason, you like spending 48 hours trying to get into a instance duty to progress in the game. I'm impressed that they are actually asking players for help so that the game can have a smooth launch, its common practice in most MMO's to have beta test servers where the players test all elements of the game to hopefully nip any big issues in the bud before it launches. This only really comes as a surprise to people who are either new to MMO's or have only ever played FFXIV. There's nothing wrong with them asking for help.
I'll be ready to help test if the server hamsters are well fed or not. Provided I can log on for the FATE. I got my Ixion rewards but I actually LIKE the fact SE seems to be concerned with the state of their servers going into an expansion so will help by going and getting myself DC'd cause everyone, their chocobo, and minion will be there
Good point - I wonder what sort of crowd the horrendously elusive FATEs like the Behemoth, Proto Ultima and part 3 of Coeurlregina would bring in? And more people would be able to participate even if they're not up to the end of Stormblood yet.
That's the idea, yes. Testing to see what happens when everyone rushes to a specific world for some reason, and how the servers handle it - or at what point they can't.
Are smoother, more stable servers heading into a brand new expansion not enough? If this has even a chance at preventing another nightmare like the Raubahn and Pippin debacles from Stormblood, then I (as well as everyone...) should really be all hands on deck for this if possible.
The fact that some people think they need to be given incentive to help them with a stress test is proof of either 1 of 2 things: they've either never played a MMO outside of FFXIV or are brand new to the MMO genre. Sending out beta invites to thousands of players to help test server stability and content for bugs and tuning is the normal standard across 99% of MMO games. SE has always done their testing internally, but after the Raubahn EX fiasco they know that they need more help to test it out so they can fix all the issues before the game launches. Your incentive for doing this is not standing around for 48 hours spamming 1 button to hopefully get into the duty instance to progress the story. I commend SE for taking the needed steps to make sure that Shadowbringer's launch is as smooth as possible.
Not that I'm disagreeing with people on the importance of this stress test and getting every extra person is just better data for SE but there is a bit of a difference from a beta invite for stress testing and a non-incentive test (let's exclude Ixion Fate for this) in that with a beta invite you get to play the game when normally you couldn't (and usually it's also free, and sometimes even carries progress) where here we're already playing and paying for the game. So in comparison you get a lot of value out of a beta stress test while in the later not so much, but of course I didn't mention the FATE which they did pick a fairly nice FATE to test with (so there is some value in ours as well).
Anyway, I just wanted to say that there is an incentive to beta test and so I don't think people are that bizarre for considering one here. Of course people pointed out the very important and yet longer game incentive of helping SE is better servers but like.. come on.. long term plans (even beyond a few days).. people planning..? :D When the majority of any people anywhere plan longer term wake me from my slumber :p, maybe teach me how to do it better too lol.
Agreed to your point, it will benefit everyone :).
Huh, I missed the memo they were doing this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention I suppose, I'll try to make it there.
All of these gimme gimme gimme people are really starting to get tiresome after these last two months. GCBTW.
I just hope they make these FATEs easy and cheap to get to. I'm not going to spend 10 minutes of ground travel getting to one, or a 999 gil teleport fee..
Make it so we can join it like a dungeon run, get teleported there and then return to your original position when done.
