New Death Penalty Idea: Upon death lose 10% of experience points required to reach next level. If 10% of exp goes below 0, you will level down to the previous level.
Who's with me? Anyone? Hello?
/foreveralone
I agree with this thread with the modification that my death should cause the OP to lose anima. Now it's perfect~
This is a dangerous topic for me.
Balancing lore and fun. And this is where I have to lean more on fun. Changing the death penalty after game launch to something stricter may result in a massive rift *Bahamut wrestles Regulos away from thread*.
An extreme lore faithful death would be permanent character death (or then come back as a zombie NPC).
At present, people seem to get frustrated with their current deaths, even if raised on the spot. They already start to loath party members for these deaths. I can only imagine more severe death penalties would result in people jumping out of their seats, foaming at the mouth, doing a floor-copter, while flailing their arms about.
For now, I think the death penalty is best left alone. Maybe after all the foundations are set, SE can revisit death penalties in 2.0.
what is peoples obsession with death penalty? In a game like this where you could die a lot people would loose full anima pools just from one day of grinding a new dungeon/nm/primal. I can see it now, /l hey guys want to go tackle that new dungeon?
responders> No thanks dude I don't want to loose all my anima, lets wait till someone finds a way to easily class stack it and copy that strat.
/l well guess ill go craft some more
gear durability loss in this game is a joke when its so easy to get grade 5 matter.. and dying and running back to wherever you are isn't a big deal either, people do it all the time all day long because its not a big deal. The death penalty we currently have is a joke.
I have an idea for you MMO masochists.
Every time you die, you drop the party for 1-3 hours and go grind some monsters -- even if you're already level capped and they don't give you any more exp. That way you can be self-punished for being an unskilled player that dies, and the rest of us know not to invite you in the future.
To Put It nicely OP hates Anima/teleport with a passion. Unless it's like XI only whm can teleport. So he will keep making random threads with new idea's and attempts to make everyone else suffer. Until he gets his way.
Basically he doesn't want people to be able to teleport. So he wants Anima to be tied to Death penalty so people run out of anima quicker thus unable to teleport more making everyone run/choco everywhere. Which is what he truly wants.
Could add additional rules if you want to be really hardcore.
Everytime you die drop everything you have on hand and give away all your gil to simulate being mugged by your foes while downed. That way you'll really have a fear of death, and it adds a whole new level of skill to making any progress in the game.
Yeah!... Hardcore /thumbsup
Why stop there? Every time you beat an enemy, craft an item, or complete a gathering point, go do some jogging/push ups/sit ups/pull ups for 15 minutes.
I just turned your game extra hardcore AND I've made you more healthy. No need to thank me, I know I'm a genius.
Here, I'll make a counter proposal since I'm hopped up on monster drinks atm.
How about we get rid of anima all together and we make a new thing called the "Choco Force"® that slowly charges as you run around on your chocobo. You can use it to teleport around because of <insert worthless lore here>. You shouldn't overuse it though, because you will slowly begin to taste of chocolate.
It also has the added bonus of nerfing goobues who cant build up "Choco Force"®. Instead they build up "Goob Force"® which fuels a new toggle ability increasing their size and arm flail speed by 250%.
Would people just lay off the death penalty crap already.. jeez... I have no desire to face any death penalty save for the durability hit on items we currently take.
If you wanna lose x anima every time you die, then go teleport around Eorzea everytime you die. Then nobody else has to deal with it.
You know.... I REALLY hate that saying "get a life".... If I was dead, I would need a life, but, I'm not, and thus don't need one. The life I live is mine not yours or anyone elses :D k thanks
ALSO I've stated MANY TIMES(if you would read any of my posts) that I do not hate this game. I would just like SOME features changed.
I think they should change "Brink of Death" to "death" causing your character to die forcing you to restart and pay SE more money to make a new char. I think that's hardcore enough.
Last time i checked general discussion isnt the forum for role-players. so please take your lore play to the correct forum.
oh wait i forgot there isnt one. hmm maybe because role-play is insignificant and useless.
I really am curious though. You don't want Anima to be in the game. Prefer not to use it. So out of all the choices for a good death penalty. Why are you choosing something you don't even want in the game to begin with? How would you losing something you don't want to use really be a penalty?
Sounds like a terrible idea.
No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.
To all those who are complaining about not wanting a death penalty, most everyone I know, does want one. As I've said before, just don't die, and you never have to worry again.
I have decided to destroy your thread.

Let me ask you guys a question, Did you guys try harder not to die in FFXI or this game?
Anima..... So game breaking for some.
You are from besaid, you should be all over this lore!~
I am not in favor of a death penalty, but realize that one could very well be implemented in the future. Of all the games I've played that included some sort of death 'penalty' I believe I like Allods Online the most-when they had to spend actual time in Purgatory. :)
I was a bonecrafter, black mage and white mage in FFXI. I had RR2 and RR3. I didn't care one ounce about dying, because it didn't inconvenience me in any real way. The minuscule XP that I lost, I made up quickly in some meripo parties that were super easy for me to get.
Death in FFXIV is worse for me, because I have to waste time running back and finding a repair NPC, and possibly even waste anima.
That said, I don't think people like OP actually care about the challenges and difficulties they personally go through. It's easy to set challenges for yourself in a game, and feel good about yourself for having those challenges if that's what you really like; play without anima, or force yourself to do something unpleasant when you fail at a task, or play without materia. You know, the same way you would do a Nuzlocke Pokemon playthrough, or play FFX without the Sphere grid, or play Resident Evil without saving; then you talk about it to people who are also of the same mentality and are doing the same challenges.
OP is actually interested in screwing over other players instead and masks it with a feeble "I just want some challenge" explanation.
I tricked myself. I thought this was a thread about primals/eidolons such as Anima or Death.
Then I realized I already posted in here. Tis' strange how reading a topic title in a different mindset can result in a different interpretation.
You know someone is a bad player when he needed all this silly penalty to add chalenges.
Good players simply won't die easily with or without penalties, but they are smart enough to know what idea is good to be implemented and which one is right out retarded.
First of all, you can beat anything in this game without gear..... sooo you don't have to waist time running back to "find" a npc(pretty sure you know where they are). Waist anima? noo, if you are pting or doing ifrit, you should set your home point at the crystal.
I think you just have bad management of anima. Also, even if you do die, everyone pretty much has raise, so no worries there(your gear wont get hardly damaged either YAY) so no point in a repair.
If you are roaming around and die... well, you should have been more careful, it takes 0 effort to repair anything when DM and NPCs are everywhere in the game.
Also death penalties are not meant for "fun".
Ya it is easy to set challenges in the game. Though, as I said, people will always take the least resistant route(fact).
Death penalties have nothing to do with challenge, they are to punish the player for dieing, ya know, death. They also make it where people will try and stay alive or do even better the next time.
Idk who you do events with. But the people I do events with try to stay alive because it's more fun to be in the fight then watching the fight.
