The Roegadyn and Midlander have leather gloves and short lace-up boots. They also have some kind of white skirt under the surcoat but over the pants - we'll have to wait and see which part of the outfit it's attached to, but I'm guessing it's the pants - because the Highlander doesn't have it despite being otherwise the same.



But if all this explanation doesn't convince you, then let's turn this the other way around.

What are you seeing that makes you say the Roegadyn and Elezen have the same costume? Ignore the colour. What elements of the shape are the same for those two, and different to the others? Are you just expecting that there must be two pairs of matching outfits, and not considering that there might be three with the same?

you forgot the most obvious thing.
The sleeves are completely different for each of the similar sets

the only real disappointment to me is the caster/healer just being dark and light themes of same stuff again. I thought the crest on caster was unique but i think it may just be position/color making the light one blend in

don't really expect a heck of a lot from dungeon sets personally. The devs know that to the vast majority of the player base dungeon sets are just a source of GC seals yet they still try and sometimes we get real gems

The thing with "robes" is that people complain about mages getting robes because "they're too long", "they cover up my other gear", "I can't see my boots", etc etc.

If you're going to call these tunics "robes", then prettymuch everything the game can give you besides waist-length shirts is a "robe". And then people complain we get nothing but "robes" when we're getting tunics and coats and weird strappy Bonewicca outfits.

Different words suggest different shapes of clothing. A robe and a tunic are not the same thing.

And again, when in doubt, I'm off to Wikipedia.... which defines a robe as a "loose-fitting outer garment" with all its examples being long, draping clothing (the word 'gown' is used a lot). Meanwhile a tunic is a body garment "reaching from the shoulders to a length somewhere between the hips and ankles".

These are definitely tunics.

It's not too bad, since we can see the caster and healer are palette swaps, so you can just look at the casting gear on the Miqo'te and see what the shape of the healer set will be like as well.

(As someone mentioned earlier, they would also make really nice Christmas casual outfits! Even without being able to dye them, the healer set would work as a "snow colour scheme" design. It's a pity they're coming out in January!)

I noticed, but for trying to draw similarities-and-differences between the sets it doesn't really fit into the argument. The Midlander has the single sleeve that isn't copied in any of the other sets. The Highlander has the pauldron that goes with the gauntlets, as on the tank set.

It doesn't really help for comparing them either way.

Can say that for any gear really.

I feel like part of the challenge must be coming up with designs that won't be like anything else that came before it, with the assumption that people will mix and match with pre-existing sets.

I can understand people not liking the armor designs of SB, but am a bit lost on why people don't know where it's coming from. Thought it was pretty obvious that majority of it based on traditional Mongolian attire?

As for the the masked carnival, I'm excited about the allied seals. Will help me finish up my speed bonuses for ARR areas, and get the allied seal armor for my squadron. After I finish those it should be be easy to keep a healthy supply of aetheryte tickets on hand.

Those aren't robes. They're tunics with pants and boots clearly visible. If you consider every top that hangs below the waist to be a robe then no wonder some people think that casters get "nothing but robes." By that definition, every class in the game gets nothing but "robes."

I'm going to redact my statement. I agree, they're not robes, but they're certainly closer to robes than the other gear sets aesthetically speaking (at least to me). I suppose I'm just being salty because it's one of those times where I really wish SE would let up on the dumb glamour restrictions. I feel my character would look better in the other sets but I still want to play caster.

Okay for just a small moment of I'm kidding what if the one everyone is calling the aiming set is really the maiming? As again SE does have a thing for dressing up all of the physical dps in the same outfit as I have stated previously except for drg because it tends to be the same as the tanks. Though they do get away from this a little in Stormblood in the leveling as most sets look the same as to fit the theme of the dungeon. Those masks really bug me as the Roe's mask matches they eye parts of the Elezen's yet the midlander's helmet is the same except the eyes are the same as the highlander. As to the white cloth I think it's part of the top as I think it's a long sleeveless tunic under their quilted coats. Unless you look at Siren Song and Doma Castle where with the former they went crazy on who had what and the later where the aiming set gets to be the special one. So yes, if one ignores the colors you are correct. Though now my liking of the gear lessens once you do add in the color factor at least for the debated two. Also now the tank top needs a neck frill.

I hope they do add more to allied seals, but I expect we'll have to wait for Blue Mage to unlock Lv60+ for the reward to add centurio seals for it to be anything really worthwhile... Still, as an alternative to the awful Hunts system, it's a great addition eventually... Seems you get a first time reward like Guildhests, then every week it picks three random ones? 100 allied seals a week, just from the one labelled "Novice"? Should be pretty good, 300 seals a week, hopefully more.

Not even sure what they could add to allied seals at this point though... More Grand Company gear would be amazing (weapons for Red Mage and Samurai, equipment sets that aren't tailored solely to the classes found in their respective city-states), but then you get all that gear, and then what? I think treasure maps would be nice, I've always thought Grand Companies should give us access to those somehow, so why not allied seals? Not the current expansion maps, just the old ones that nobody wastes their 18h gathering allowance on... Would have much rather they'd done something like that, to make Aquapolis farmable again, than them adding some of the Aquapolis materials at scrip vendors...

I guess if nothing else you can convert the old weathered gear from allied seals into either desynth fodder, or Grand Company seals fodder... That's pretty much what the poetic tomestones are for at this point... You know, I do wish they'd just add something like the MGP Gold Card to some of the old vendor currencies... Take out the annoying middle part of me buying a bunch of useless gear and trading it in for Grand Company seals, just let me buy a GC Seal Card or something that automatically gives me a bunch of the seals... Would be a very welcome addition to poetics vendors and wolf marks vendors, off the top of my head...

Looking forward to BLU! A bit disappointed with the dungeon gear except for that set on the Au Ra and maybe the Healer/Caster sets. Feeling a bit cautious with the MSQ, in the teaser trailer Thancred is awake and running around so curious to see how 4.5 and 4.55 pan out with the Scions.

How so? Can already hit 90,000 and buy a bunch of gear to trade in with Wolf Marks and Poetics. All a token would do is make things easier for the player, rather than buying 2,000 Poetics worth of gear to trade in, you get 2,000 Poetics of GC Seal Cards, for example. All that changes is you go from buying over a dozen items that don't stack, to buying however many GC Seal Cards, that do stack. Nothing more than a quality of life bonus.

I think one hairstyle will be Eureka (so Feb or March) and the other one will be something else (PvP I guess).

It's the Ramza and Alma hairstyles, with any hope it's rewards from the 24 man Raid questline since that's obviously relevant.

But, in before gender locked, because variety is bad.

Given the Ramza style is only on males and the Alma is only on women that might be the case, I really hope they are both available at patch launch.

And the hairstyles are Ramza and Alma's, so it seems logical they'd be from the final Ivalice raid (raid prize? token trade-in? quest reward???) but it's no guarantee.

Also a little concerned that they're each only shown on one gender of models. I hope it's not a single gender-locked "Ivalice" style that gives both at once.

Given that his entire thing so far is that he is absolutely not an Adarkim Xaela (but did you know they'll go to any lengths to become khan of the tribe?) and you can see his tail if you swing the camera around behind him.... well, he might be wearing the Gold Saucer bunny ears! He's evidently already been shopping there.


Also due to the joys of character data (spoiler?), we can actually already find out what he looks like... though of course there's always a possibility it's a 'placeholder' design and they might change it before we actually get to see him.

(For those not used to reading Garland Tools' character data sheets, the top picture isn't what he looks like, that's just his hairstyle on a generic face - the other information shows he has the "old" face (#4). And even that might not be right, since the face details say "custom" so he may in fact have a unique face design, and these are just the underlying settings that you don't actually see.)

Also the "talk dialogue" has two sets of quotes - the first three lines are his original dialogue and the rest are what replaces it at some point during that quest.


Looking up his data has made me realise that he only starts talking about the Adarkim tribe after we've done an Azim Steppe sidequest involving them... with some interesting information.

So that seems more-than-coincidental, particularly also with him now being in Sharlayan. But as I said, I haven't played beyond Anemos so maybe that's been disproved by further installments of the story.

That would be a lovely twist. Also, while Zhloe was kind of left-field, M'naago and Kurenai had both had story-connections prior to their being introduced as custom delivery NPCs.
I just hope you don't have to do any Eureka to actually unlock him or any of his questline because that would be just too much, but not unprecedented given other custom delivery NPCs already have requirements in place

I need that otter minion. Though I'm guessing it'll be fisher retainer only or scrips.

I agree. I'd like to see how Alma's hairstyle looks on my male Elezen. (Though I guess I wouldn't want that huge bow all the time, only for specific costumes, so I probably wouldn't stick with it anyway.)

I'm not keen on Ramza's hair. The ponytail looks very stuck on and just 'not quite right'.

Given that they're fond of locking every "character-specific" piece of glamour behind the NPC's gender, it wouldn't surprise me if they are gender-locked. Boo.

I don't know how to feel about Seiryu's design lol. The pretty man with a dragon body is awesome but those extra snakes are kinda odd... But his dog looks pretty enough! I've liked all the music for the auspices so far so I'm excited to hear the new theme.

My eb has wanted more ponytails for guys so they'll be over the MOON for the new hairstyles. Hope they're both unisex.

I'm just glad they're finally doing something with Adkiragh after they teased that they had plans for him before SB even dropped.

I've been interested in learning more about him ever since that quest in the Azim Steppe revealed that he's been hiding from his own tribe after repeated attempts on his life due to him presumably being a top candidate for the next khan.

I would be really disappointed when the new odder otter minion with the fishing rod isn't either a reward for catching 200 different big fish or for completing a new legendary fish quest :x

Someone on reddit pointed out that the last eureka hairstyle only got shown on the page when the patch with Eureka was near its release. Since these are already there maybe (hopefully) we will get them from somewhere...sad how we probably wont just get them like in the past.

Also finally a male custom delivery NPC.

A shame about Blue Mage, but I can't wait for the new MSQ. Lookin' pretty good, thus far.

Or a drop from the last chapter of the Ivalice raid. Hopefully these won't be gender locked, as I'd fancy Alma's hairstyle for a dude.

With the hair being the characters from the 24 man, I can't see them coming from anywhere else but there. I just don't want them to be a drop that I'll be competing for... My luck on rolls sucks. Hopefully they're given for finishing the quest chain or perhaps they can utilize the tokens/coins (whatever the currency is for completing the raids, I'm drawing a blank at the moment) from the raids themselves to purchase them.
