Uhm caster or BRD/MCH LB on a big pull anyone?

As melee, i don't in some content. For instance, since I know there is going to be a wipe in O9N - O12N (even in week 10) i leave LB for Healer LB. Not sure about dungeons since i do not do them but it is normally saved for casters to LB really big pulls.
Also if it's not savage or some ex primals does it really matter?
I generally leave LB alone because caster/melee has it better, but even if I was one of those roles I'd probably leave it. When playing with random people from DF you never know how things are gonna go, I'd rather the LB be used when everything goes south to save a run (whether tank lb or healer) so I don't have to do another pull, rather than have a fight take 20 seconds less or whatever.
Lol this got moved to the DPS Roles threads rather than GD.
Should have called it Discussion: The use of DPS LB :P
If the fight is balanced around an enrage timer, then obviously the DPS role needs to be be pushing pushing as much DPS as possible, which includes Limit Break, especially if the encounter has A LOT of raidwide AoE damage output that needs to be mitigated that tanks need to use Limit Break for, and put serious strain on healers MP with ridiculous healing checks that eventually healers need to use Limit Break to get back lost MP and keep the party going(see Extreme, Savage, and Ultimate modes).
Alliance Raids could easily be balanced around using LB3 a lot but a lot of the time most people even forget it's even there so why bother balancing content around a game system that should feel satisfying to use when it's not even on the hotbar to begin with?
As someone who wants to use Limit Break more as a tank, they really need to rework Limit Break system along with fixing the tank and healer balance.
Ah yes Duty Finder... Limit Break is used even less with the matchmaking of Duty Finder... I would at least lock matchmaking until the content was cleared with a pre-formed party first, to help get a general idea of when and/or where Limit Break is used if in a dungeon or 1 of the many trials in Stormblood(Seriously though, Stormblood "raids" were just trials so the Devs should NEVER do that again for next raid series)...
See now this is a problem. I agree that generally using LBs should be somewhat satisfying to use but the reality is that presently they just aren't. AT ALL.
In big bad 24 man alliance raids for example you ding a LB3. so you press it unleash this big bad powerfull limit break to do some real damage...
and................
the boss loses a whopping 1% of his hp... barely even noticable. if you didn't have the HP% displayed you wouldnt even notice the HP bar went down at all.
the only thing worse is when you see an alliance boss at like 9% HP hear 3 big LB3's going off only to see the boss is still standing with 4-5% hp left afterwards...
It just leaves you wondering what's the point?
It doesnt feel satisfying it feels incredibly lacklustre to be honest. so it's really not suprising people just don't bother. It's a waste of time....
Oh yeah... HP sponge bosses... the DPS roles least favorite type of boss... if the boss has a huge health pool anyway then DPS need to use Limit break more than once... but since DPS have 0 patience with a negative 2 modifier... yeah the only other option at that point is lowering the health pool of bosses that only take 1-2% of damage from an LB3 but by doing that defeats the existence of Limit Break... then again Limit Break and Materia systems have aged poorly like Final Fantasy VII's graphics on PS1...
In 4 mans, dps limit break might save 3-6 seconds on the run, even if it's a caster lb on a large pull (provided people know how to aoe)
In story mode raids, or primals, the fights are adjusted to be able to just faceroll it anyway, so people don't stress lb usage as much.
Then into savage/extreme/ultimate, the limit break is required in certain spots, by different roles to complete the mechanic, or make a mechanic easier, so usage then becomes dictated more by the fight than preference to do a big hit of damage.
People also generally don't like doing it in other situations because it can greatly impact your rotation.
Been making a point of spamming the LB as I finished leveling my Ninja the last few days. She’s a Hyur alt slowly becoming a main (my Cat has all the tank classes but in just coming back to the game I am thinking of a role change)...
Out of maybe 6+ uses I would guess 2 were worth it.
Both moments where the tank, healer, or both had gone down and we were at 1% and near a wipe. On a third such situation... boss was at about 5%... so I just ran to stand in something rather than bothering.
- these are extreme edge cases that I am only seeing because I am a returning player and getting grouped with people that are even less aware of what’s going on than me...
In other words LB only seems useful when your tank, healer, or both are not good, and your DPS are also not good... but just a tiny bit better... so you end up in a near wipe at 1%...
Outside if greenleaf and returning players, that’s a situation that’s not very likely...
well, it depends on more than one condition and that is more than a group of randoms can handle, despite being very easy to determine:
I play mosty melee, almost always monk.
First, when LB is ready and I am in my busrst phase, doing LB is a waste of cooldowns. that's why I hate all those "USE LB NOW <se.1>" macros, because there is time when LB fits into my rotation and time when it is not. If the LB had 2s cast (including animation lock) and was affected with buffs, OK, but it is not.
Second, if I have a ranged/caster in dungeon, using LB on trash pull is better. But LB is usually charged during 2nd boss, so I don't use it because I hope for AoE LB next pull. If the caster won't use it, well, can't go back in time...
Third, a lot of dps think you have to kill boss with LB or the Earth will explode. By the time we reach last boss you should get the feeling on how fast the boss will die, so: if it takes too long, wait for LB2 (makes more damage) or LB1 right after opener (or when it is ready and you are not in burst phase), because if LB2 is not taking away at least 10% you may just as well not use it.
All of this is hard to communicate in PUG, especially in DF, despite being a common sense. You have to trust 3 strangers to have common sense: that is why LB is not used very often.
