not like SWTOR, like WoW that is the same as SWTOR but with different characters and not like FFXIV that has unique features that is fighting against all the cheap stuff of the new MMO typo, taking only the best.

I dislike this.
To me, this is just a way to view cut-scenes and waste a few extra seconds to log off.
This should have waited until 2.0 if we can't do anything with it.
Not saying I agree with the choice to not be able to craft in one, but knowing how currently we jump through a lot of hoops to dissuade bots/rmt, I'm assuming this might be the reason.
That and hotels/inns tend to frown upon you renting out a room from them to do blacksmithing in...it's messy and loud.
And wont the inns be near the adventurers guilds. where the unused ingame inns already are?
or remember those cyber in aht urhgan,
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH BUDDY
It just goes to show you how big patch 1.21 is going to be when Player Housing is probably one of the smallest things being added...
maybe when they let you craft in there they'll have the bot policeQuote:
You can't..... craft in there? w-why??
It feels a step back 20 years, even in Secret of Mana your whole party could stay in your inn room ;o
It would be nice if the Inns took on a more human/social aspect, such as friendly npc's arriving unannounced with random quest offers or other random social occasions, similar to Grandia where you dont just stay at the inn you actually sit around a dinner table conversing with npcs. Chuck in the mainstoryline companion and you'd have an interesting way of bonding with your npc (think persona social link system).
An inn by its nature is a more public place. It would have been nice to have a place to invite the whole LS for meetings, roleplay (/gasp) and such (not saying you cant do that in the open world, its just having the option...)
These kind of social aspects help deepen an MMO and have that addictive "gotta catch em all" mentality to push it along.
There was a question regarding how potent the rested bonus would fair in comparison to Guardian’s Aspect. For regional leves, we are making adjustments so it is the same amount of EXP as if you had Guardian’s Aspect active.
Also to clarify, as long as you have completed the main quest requirement for your city-state, you’ll be able to accept the inn quest for each of the city-states. By completing each of the city-state’s inn quests, it will be possible to utilize the inns in each of the city-states.
As for the EXP bonuses that are applied, there was a concern that non-Disciple of the Hand classes are missing out being able to utilize the rested XP as freely as they would like. We’re preparing the following methods, so that a player can select which to use depending on the situation:
Static EXP bonus – Utilize the rest bonus
EXP bonus on demand – Food, company engineered items, etc.
(Also note that the XP bonus from food is the same regardless of type of food consumed)
We are currently looking into other questions that have been posted in this thread, so please hang tight! :o
Thank ya kindly for ze updates! *rents an inn in every city, mwee hee hee*
edit: That Disciple of the Hand classes were missing out? Uh ohs.
This is a bit silly.
Just because you're in your residence, SE won't know if you're turboing the enter button? Probably not true.
-- What you actually mean to say is that regular players can't easily attempt to determine if someone is bot-crafting (as if they ever have been able to with accuracy.)
-- SE has access to each person's input stream from their client. They don't need to see someone to know what they are doing. They will just see the input stream matches a bot-like pattern and ban. This is especially true for something like all the mass-bans that used to happen periodically in FFXI.
-- How do you reason that you're somehow would be 'safe' in your residence from SE's monitoring in any way? FFXIV residences do not resemble a real-life house where you can go inside and pull the shades down. Just the opposite. Everything you do is super transparent. An example: one of the computer networks I manage, I can pull up anyone's computer screen and see what they are doing at any time - without them even knowing. I just click a button and there is their screen. Sure SE employees have hooks into just about every view of their game with complex reporting metrics and the like.
I'm sort of surprised that more than a couple people suggested that no crafting was allowed in residences because you could get away with botting. You realize that, for instance, unless you are browsing the internet on an SSL encrypted site (and even then its not completely secure) that your service provider (including cell phone provider) is logging every site you are going to and every keypress you are making on the internet? They keep this data for months and years!
Just because no in-game players can 'see' you doesn't mean SE can't. They can. Privacy is dead - especially in MMORPGs, where it was never there to begin with.

Regarding the update... let me get this straight, the only use for residences is to
1) view cutscenes
2) amass a resting bonus
Seems like a waste of an update.
I'm actually pretty upset to see that you can't craft and stuff in your room, too. However, there could be a few reasons for this that don't have to do with botting. Which, by the way, would not change anything and people who bot will still do so. With private rooms or without.
This other reason might be that they want crafting classes to be in their respected guilds... which actually makes a lot of sense. Other players who need help from a crafting class are not going to get through to them if they are in their rooms.
Kinda feels pointless not being allowed to do crafting and related actions in the inn, I really wanted a private area to do that quietly without being bothered with other player's sound effects and people running over and blocking my view of the crafting orb...Or facing the public embarrassment of a lot of failures in a row. ^^; I doubt it has anything to do with bot crafters, as they are all out in the open on the streets in plain view as it is now on my server.
But I do miss quietly crafting in my mog house room in XI, well hopefully for 2.0 player housing Yoshi has something interesting up his sleeve.
I have a few questions maybe someone can clarify.
-Will the rested xp bonus automatically apply itself to the first class played that is able to level? Or will there be some sort of way for the player to execute it (such as a button in the micro menu)?
-What exactly is the recharge rate and what will the cap be? IE: X hours logged off = Y bonus xp up to Z amount maximum.
-Will you be able to stack the exp bonus from scrolls and food with the rested bonus?
-Will there be inns or equivalents in other places besides the city-states such as hamlets or outposts?
@Altanas that kind of stuff will be around with the player-owned residences since they are not instanced according to interviews and such in the past. That type of stuff probably isn't possible at all with the current game and they're working within their limits.
First off, personal housing will be instanced. The neighborhood will have to be instanced. There is noting to suggest that they are not --sure, but if they are not, they have got to be the dumbest developers in the galaxy. Also, you can craft in ANY instanced area in the game. They actually written in deliberately that you cannot craft inside your residence. For what official reason? We don't know.
I am on the fence about it. I'd love to be able to craft inside my residence, but then again I see the points in not allowing it at the moment.
Anyway, there is no reason on the technical side why it's being blocked.
I was really looking forward to player residences, but this seems just like
some temporary & pointless thing to add at the moment.
I kinda imagined it to be somewhat more advanced version of FFXI's mooghouse,
and who knows...some day in 2.0 it might be.
I just dont see the point in adding this feature as it seems right now.
I guess my thought is why waste time and effort to make these inn rooms for us when they could make a more permanent house. WE have waited this long for something like this.. I can;t wait a little longer. I'd rather see a Mail system up and running to tell you the truth.
I do like the fact that there will be rested XP gain though!!!!
I want a big storage box into any private room.
We might, id appreciate it more if i could craft furnitures,
general housing stuff & sell on AH / Wards...atleast in the future
.
Thats one of the biggest things & what made FFXI unique etc,
and hopefully FFXIV wont be less than that.
But ya, i'd like to sit in my house crafting too, invite friends and
show off my crafted furnitures, setup, my huge King size bed etc. :D
You dislike this? What DO you like?
The inns were made from incomplete content from the previous team, and they are freely useable. The residences we will get in the future require work to obtain and will have many more features. in the mean time, It's been a long time since you could stay at an inn in any final fantasy game.
We were able to get a few more questions answered about the upcoming inns!
There will be decorated layouts that are designed specifically for each city-state's inn, but players won't be able choose Gridania's decorations while residing in Ul'dah's inn for example. Each layout will only be available within the city-state that they are from.Quote:
Will there be different layouts in different cities? Will players be able to choose specific layouts that they prefer?
Yup! The proof is in the banner too! You'll be able to sit down on the bed if you feel like relaxing.Quote:
Will players be able to interact with furniture? (Beds, chairs, etc.)
Retainers and other players won't be able to enter the inns.Quote:
Will there be a retainer bell inside and will we be able to invite other players into our inn?
