...what?
People aren't going to do this out of the kindness of their heart, needs to drop something for the folks that didn't get a bunny.

Extremely dull and repetitive. I may write out a proper review in a separate thread, but suffice it to say Pagos is just... boring. The sheer number of mobs you have to kill for NM feels absurdly high. My hand literal hurt from spamming the same buttons over and over and over again. I can't believe I actually miss some of the more daunting Anima steps, but at least I chose the content I wanted to do for poetics or light. This just grind the same mobs by the hundreds and try not to fall asleep while doing it.
I guess we’ll have to see what other rewards are in there, but if only so many bunnies spawn per amount of people that do the FATE, and there’s a chance that the majority get nothing from it, I don’t see the bunny FATEs being worth anything at all. If it’s seriously just a couple people get lucky enough to get the same things you get from lockboxes... Idk. I want to hope that it’s going to actually be worth it, but, sadly, I won’t be surprised if it’s not. :/
I just wonder if whoever gets lucky enough to loot the chest is the only one who receives rewards from it, or if they will be similar to Treasure Maps were everyone at least gets something.
more engaging, amazing, enthralling content from the infallible SE..... /sarcasm
It's literally just Anemos with the small benefit of the challenge log from the start. I don't think the devs really understood any of the feedback about Anemos or that they were too far along in designing Pagos after Anemos launched that they were beyond the point of (wanting to) adjust anything.
The earliest FATE with the bunnies (which will be a newbie-trap "Where's mah EXP!?" for the days to come) in these early stages feels pretty lame because it looks like more players are wanting experience points so that they can interact and participate with more of the zone rather than have a small chance to get to run around no man's land (of death) looking for a coffer that will probably give the Grade VI (so I've heard, besides crafting things) materias that the game has been spitballing at us all year. Beyond that, my party was just killing mobs of corresponding elements for the challenge log and getting a few exp chains going trying not to fall asleep doing the same DPS rotation ad nauseam.
I admit that Anemos gave people some preconceptions about what they'd get in Pagos (like them being able to be on a 'FATE train' on day 1, or being able to use a mount right off the bat and outrun everything), but I don't feel like the devs took any criticism and learned from it. Starting this new zone leaves me feeling like this is another long, drawn-out chore with little to no (productive or interesting) distractions, and if there somehow ends up being more later on in the zone/ higher level, then it's just exhausting that we have to put up with the lackluster start.
On one hand, I didn't really expect anything different. On the other hand...I'm worried. For various reasons it feels like the EU and NA community is an afterthought in this game. That isn't the case with WoW, which is arguably FFXIV's biggest rival at the moment. It is also about to launch an expansion very soon. Quite a few people I know have either stopped playing all together or are taking a break from FFXIV. In many cases, they're trying out WoW.
FFXIV's developers are playing it very safe. The content cycle continues to be predictable and we keep being thrown 'content' that revolves around mindless killing. Some people will do it - reluctantly - for the carrot on the stick that is glamour. Though I haven't seen many people state that they actually enjoy Eureka. Most seem to, at best, tolerate it.
I didn't expect a LOT to be different, but they couldn't' even be arsed to remix the zone music. Anyone who thinks this team is taking the players seriously must have rocks in their head.
Eureka is definitely the least compelling content, and as the player above me stated - Blizzard is rolling out a massive xpac that you better believe is going to smash records. I had cancelled my sub to come here and play with my friends, but unlike the days when I played XI - that's not a good enough reason on its own for me to stay. I'll just talk to them on discord.
After spending all day there I feel like they need to look into the timers on the NM fate spawning. They seems really off :(
If they're going to spread out the timers on the NM's they REALLY need to up the individual mob exp. Not wanting to grind 450-600 mobs just for a single level.
That's the reason that the NM Train thing happened anyway. People realized the cost of time vs benefit of exp just wasn't worth it otherwise.
Agreed. The Challenge Log is a nice boost, but it’s once a week.... Other than for that, chaining mobs just isn’t worth it. They could do the Challenge Log for Eureka daily instead of weekly if they wanted to promote mob-grinding. Make it at least slightly more worth it.
I physically cannot handle spamming the same buttons for hours on end just to gain a pitiful amount of exp. In Anemos I was getting a nice case of carpal tunnel in my right hand because enemies are just... too tanky. I typically run paladin in Eureka and it's... ugh.
After merely a week I had to stop. I'm not going to rush Pagos since 4.4 is on the horizon.
This is my primary concern as well. Aside from being incredibly slow, extended mob grinding begins to do a real number on my hands. I was kind of hoping that Pagos would have slightly more diverse activities to help mitigate this problem, but sadly that isn't the case. I think I'll either have to wait for NMs/Challenge Log only or carefully pace myself. I don't want to destroy my hands.
Normally I can’t wait to get home and check out new patches. Today I tried Pagos for a little bit and logged off pretty quickly. The content is just getting to be stale, uncreative and not a lot of fun.
Likewise, this is the first patch I can remember where I wound up doing something else after going into Pagos. I didn't even set an alarm, I just happened to wake up nearly 6am, though it apparently finished early. A friend and I are usually up together but she elected to sleep in. I suppose that speaks to the excitement levels for Eureka.
Dunno, played a f2p phone game for a few hours and did the MHW trial all day before "Excitedly" looking into Pagos
Was pretty excited to try out Pagos only to be disappointed again. No mount, really? After grinding through Anemos just to get access to mount and SE take it out again, can they like think of something more challenging than removing our mount usage. FATE without xp, seriously why doesn't it give XP, basically the bunny FATE are a waste of time to do when only some players get the bunny while other get nothing. Mob chaining, got 0 crystal after spending like maybe an hour or more chaining mob kills. All in all really disappointed in Pagos, rather than a better version of Anemos, Pagos is just the same as Anemos when it was newly release.
Logged in. Did my challenge log, joined a mob grind pt and left after 30 minutes because no...just no, joined a new instance, spawned 1 nm in and hr. And for the first time since 2010 really started to consider unsubbing.
I have tried and tried but there are so many superior experiences out there from ESO to WoW to GW2, not to mention all the astounding single player games and promising mmos in development. Really I think they are just surviving on name recognition, fanboys and cheap thrills at this point.
Two big takeaways from it:
1) Devs have either run out of ways to make reasonable content for relic grinds or it was already too late to make this Eureka content more reasonable. It's understandable to have somewhat of a grind, but this is making me glad that the next World of Warcraft expansion is right around the corner.
2) FFXI-inspired suggestions need to stop being taken seriously. Honestly, anyone who wants something from FFXI should be playing that game, not this one. Eureka is proof of this.
Have crawled to 23 and its been "Anemos, but no mounts again" thus far. Im so bored orz
To be fair, even some of the good ideas won't necessarily translate well after fifteen years. Granted, Eureka could be good with they actually bothered to innovate a little. I mean, honestly? Copy/paste Anemos except make everything take longer? But oh boy! Bunnies that give us materia! It isn't like battle materia stopped mattering a year ago...
Yeah but by what was good I meant it in more abstract than the a b c. The good stuff from xi they ignore are things like diverse content that stays relevant not the boring mob grinds that xi was notorious for. I don't think diverse, long lasting content is something that wouldn't translate after 15 years.
The issue they keep applying a Japanese mentality onto a Global game. I wager they figured by making NMs take longer it'll encourage the AFKers to help speed things up. Maybe that works in JP, it doesn't in NA. People who routinely AFKed in Anemos didn't give a damn how long spawns took. They were on their phones or youtube. All this accomplishes is making everyone else have to work harder for the same reward.
In Pagos today, we were trying to spawn Ash Dragon or w/e it's name is and there were already ppl afk in the corner lol
Literally Anemos, I hoped they would have looked at the problems people had with Anemos and tried to adjust the content accordingly, to make it a more enjoyable experience overall.
Too bad its literally just the same dull grind we already did, at this point I'm just losing faith in Squares ability to deliver meaningful content outside of raids. HoH was okay, but even that was just PotD with a fresh coat of paint.
Can't wait to see the next super exciting step in Eureka.
I have today off work and wanted to get started on it but I think im going to wait a day or two for the NM train to be established and grind out the monster hunter gear instead.
I got level 22 with the Challenge Log fairly quickly, but after that the content is worthless. I see no reason to join EXP chain parties because even with the adjusted increased chain EXP, the monsters give minuscule EXP and take too long to kill. Despite barely getting any EXP, a group I joined was killing NM placeholders 5+ levels above us. After an hour of effort, the EXP bar had barely moved and Ash Dragon was still a no show.
It's not that it's not instant gratification. I don't need instant gratification, but I do need progression to feel reasonable. After finishing the Challenge Log, nothing about Pagos has felt reasonable. Continuing to play this content in this fashion would be like bashing my head against a wall and expecting different results over time. I'm not ready for that headache. Maybe after a week when the NM trains start up, things will become more bearable. Until then, I'll continue to focus on just the challenge log EXP. When I did that, atleast I felt like I was making progress.
ive been thinking what to say here n i just have no answer this is so bad i cant even try to defend it its so bad ._.
I don't know about that. I played XI for 14, nearly 15 years and I can tell you 100% that I enjoyed XI grind. XI was the only MMO I stuck with for so long because I enjoy nearly everything it had to offer. Everyone different, and I'm sure a lot of people even then didn't enjoy the grind but compared to pagos... this grind is 100% not enjoyable at all.
---
My own personal opinion of pagos, it just disappointing. It took something I loved and enjoyed from my younger years and turned it into one big snooze fest (I speak of XI of course). Anemos, fine, I was ok with it, but I'd loved to see something fresh and new. Not a copy and paste of Anemos on a new map. I'd prolly been ok with it if we could've still had our mounts walking in, but nope. Same quest, same path, same boring grind and seriously, what is up with them bunnies because I did two of those fates and didn't get a bunny following me? After the second one I joined and didn't get a bunny, I just left the instance. Bad enough I was falling asleep.
As for people AFKing, I kind of don't blame them. For most of the time I was in there trying to help spawn a NM, kill, after mindless kill, I was just getting way beyond board and my attention started to catch on to other things that were more worth wild doing then the mindless killing of mobs just to spawn a NM. Whole time I was in there, a whole two FATES. That it! Not going to speak for others, but me personally, this isn't something that going to keep my attention. Not with the spawn rate being like this. Not sure what they did but it just, nope. Not having any fun with it what so ever.
Pagos seems worse than Anemos so far. My day one experience in Anemos I got multiple levels and some items like glamour and a minion. Day one in Pagos I got squat, not even one level and like three garbage materia from lockboxes.
I'm not sure what the point of those treasure fates is, since nobody wants to touch them.
People are complaining that they just did the same thing again, but I wish they had instead of making it significantly less rewarding.
Finally dived in after work ... got whooping total of one crystal and one lock box after I suppose lucky spawn of a NM near by!
I did part of the challenge log to lvl 21 and had go cause it was getting late. Oh dear lord, my poor wrist. I joined as WHM at first but switched to RDM to help kill the mobs faster. Countless scatters and a pained hand later, and no crystals or any drops. I left with a bitter taste. I will hold my opinion for a day or so to see how it is after NM trains happen. :/
There was a bunny fate too that no one wanted to touch. Top of all, can't risk to lurk even bit cause of delevel danger and people are less bothering to go into danger zones to res people.
You know how in Anemos, if you died in the low levels and rez yourself, you don't lose exp or levels? Turns out in Pagos you do, be warned, I learned that the hard way T^T
I think it's probably best to do the bunnies when you are max level, since you already don't get exp, and you can actually look for the treasure (since my bunny tried to lead me far to the north with ultra-kill monsters).
Yeah, Anemos was a bit of a mind numbing grind at first but could actually be a bit of fun once you were a decent level and had got your mount. Reminded me of the old N. Thanalan FATE train.
Wasn't exactly top tier content but was fine once you were over the initial hump. I didn't really want to have to do that initial grind all over again though...
Pagos just nails home that the devs only listen to their Japanese player base, ie, the community that actually seems to LIKE tedious, mind numbing, boring af grind for some inexplicable reason. At this point, I doubt I'll be subbed much longer.
Either remake this MMORPG, make a NEW one because these systems have been played out, or just make everything a Boss fight ala Extreme/Savage. Seems to be the only thing they can do right is glamour (meh) and mechanic-heavy boss fights. I bought a month of subscription for this patch. The Monster Hunter fight I think is worth it for game play. Pathos is nice because I like snow but it's just a drag.
