What's up with the Monster Hunter armor?

I felt the same, it doesn't stand out from armor we already have. The mount looks impressive though and most of all I'm just excited to try out the Ratholos trial battle.

Would have really liked Phantasy Star armor in this game but that collab only went one way (PSO2 got the Odin battle and items from FF XIV). Guess they decided to never do the PSO2 stuff here because that game isn't available globally. Sega announced a North American version then never delivered one and never commented on it again. Sega downsized a lot and hardly makes anything outside of Sonic these days ; ;

So where is the Eorzean version of the Yokai minions and weapons? (And that mount..) Where is the eorzean version of the Garo stuff? Honestly it feels strange to have them using that reason for this event, while completely ignoring that especially the Yokai stuff looks so out of the Eorzean style..well the gear will just gather dust anyway (since the female version is just another skirt..) and I am just doing this for the minions.

I'm not against the idea of an "Eorzean made" thing, but some details are missing or are totally out of place, especially about World. There is no scoutflies, the wings on the female armor aren't wyvern's wings and the colour scheme is not quite accurate too (they went for bronze instead of steel - in FFXIV, the metal pieces are mostly bronze or gold, so I guess we are lucky this time). Even the headpiece is too close to things we already have in the game (a lighter headpiece exists in Monster Hunter, on the rathalos beta variant, but they didn't use it as reference). At first sight, it's hard to tell it's something inspired by Monster Hunter. It could have been an armor from a regular dungeon that nobody would have said "eh, wait a minute, it's rathalos !"

It's not a bad design, and I do like some of the details on them, but it could have been great during Heavensward since some of these details are close to this era ; however, I still think they should have went for the original rathalos armor à la FFXIV. The point of this event is also to celebrate both series, and there is nothing more iconic than rathalos and its armor set.

Oh, and a bit off-topic, I think a wingdrake with the grappling hook instead of Rathalos as mount would have been much better, but I'm probably too picky about that. ( '-')

When I read the reasons behind the Monster Hunter armor my first thought was the mount from the Yokai event, then my character stucks inside and bobbling here and there.

The skirt is another detail that bugs me. It could have been something close to the massive belt from the original design instead of just another skirt.

I'm glad the guys are finally getting something nice (if they're into that look). Otherwise, the gear's style isn't for me, so whatevs. I'll just get the mount (and minion, and achievement(s)), and go around trying to have it eat the Lalas.

It's not bad at all, certainly much better then gear they have been adding thus far in game
Watch out however for future patches and what not when they will just add re-skins of the gear, lol

I will admit it feels a bit underwhelming. It doesn't look bad sure, but I gotta agree it looks like something that might drop out of a heavensward dungeon, nothing particularly special

That's some BS excuse, we have the tortoise armour that is like a less spikey version of rath armour.

Male looks like a reskinned smn or some other caster coat, female looks like a reskinned legacy armor

The bulkiness of the monster hunter outfits would not have translated well. They're designed with one body type in mind. They probably tried it and found only highlanders look good in it.

Ugh, the female gear looks terrible... I wish you had the option of picking which set you wanted instead of gender locking them.

But I agree, they're 'inspired' and that makes me sad... they get the DRG gear set and it looks fantastic. We get less impressive armour. Oh well. I suppose I can toss it into a retainer bag. Meh.

I don't think the sets are bad per se, but MH's aesthetic is basically "I killed a thing, ripped it up, and decided to wear it"...and neither set looks like they have any parts that came from Rathalos. The other half of the collab is getting something right out of XIV, I wish our side got something a little more Monster Hunter-y.

I mean... we DO get Rathalos as a MOUNT. That's something.

But yeah... gear is kind of pitiful. (And the gender-locked different sets are really shoddy as well.) The big 'thing' with Monster Hunter has always been dismantling the monster and creating weapons and armour from it. We are decidedly NOT getting that with this. Having the monster as a mount/pet is really super (I'm really really happy about that) but I just wish the armour was closer to the MH aesthetic than it is. (And not gender-locked... the female set really is BAD. At least to me. I won't put either of my female characters in it. It doesn't fit EITHER of them... which is a pity.)

There is imo a difference between making it looking good for FF14 while still sticking mostly to the original design and making something that barely looks like anything from Monster Hunter at all or even the monster itself..someone did point out that it might not even be the right colors. Show the outfit that Monster hunter got to people that know FF14 and they will say "oh its the dragoon gear set" and show the FF14 version of the Monster hunter set to someone and I am not sure if they will realise that this is from monster hunter. And that is imo a problem, especially since this is cross advertisement. (Well at least they got the mount and minions right)

Part of the problem is how the two games approach how armor is gained, it's looks and usefulness.
FFXIV: The armor is made like an RPG; sacrifices 'ease of use' or reality for looks (can we just talk about that belly window the female dragoon has? REALLY SE? MAYBE I WANT MY STOMACH PROTECTED D:<).
MHW: The armor is made to mimic the monster it's made from. (Odogaron is a fast 'muscle-mutt' and hits hard while causing bleeding; it's armor set gives you faster sharpening to get back into the fray, critical up, bleeding resistance, and skin tight with texture to give you the feeling of muscle).

Also, the armor we got for FFXIV works with all job classes. This game very much doesn't want to give spell casters or the more fleet-footed and dexterous classes heavy-looking armor. That alone throws out a huge chunk of monster hunter armor. I'd not consider Xeno'jiiva or Vaal Hazak 'heavy armor,' but they're definitely too big and bulky to look right on a caster, ninja, bard or machinist. The same applies in reverse; Kirin armor would look very out of place on tanks in XIV.

I would like the female version better if it had tails hanging off the waist like the male's coat. It would make them more comparable visually.

considering that's one of the nicest piece of gear in this game
and this is a glamor for all jobs
ill take it

also just because its a coat doesnt mean its a re-skin of another coat

First off. I'm just going to say don't knock it till we are able to try it. Never know a single piece of this armour could be complete an total gold for glamour. Look at items like the spring/plain skirt or Quaintrelle's dress/skirt. Or heck the Anemos Jacket. A whole set does not determine a single piece's of gear usefulness for glamour. My point is the top might not be the best but the gloves, boots, or pants might be wonderful. Or that one item could be a perfect piece to pull together someone's look.

Second. It was pretty much confirmed the dyable version of the gear will be gotten from the extreme version of the fight. So I foresee this as the more popular version. It is like the Garo items, who would buy the garo items for mgp when wolf marks are easier to get really.

really depends on how much of a trainwreck this fight is.

I'm expecting it to be pretty bad. Not sure they are going to be able to balance an aggroless fight to be fun for all jobs, so i'm expecting immediate cheese parties from day one and a lot of frustration if they make the extreme version hard.
