Hmm, maybe I need to lay off my Lala BF's behind a bit... ;)
When you start taking the jokes seriously, it may be time to log off.

Did I hear Lalafel Summon timers in the party list as a QoL improvement?
Man, you poor Lalas can't seem to catch a break lol. But hey, you'll always be pretty cool in my book at least.
Those of us annoyed with Lalafell being food jokes are less annoyed about it being really disgusting and more that it's utterly inescapable. If a thread mentions Lalafell as a race in funny context, it's immediately derailed with comments like, "Why is the food talking?" "Your only good on my plate!" "You guys are so nutritious!" Etc. Etc.
It's just a meme, everyone is aware, but it's drowning out conversations. THAT'S why you see Lalafell players snap back when our fun is being stifled for yours. It's uncomfortable since it's a joke we can't exactly be in on.
Edit:
You know, now that I say this, I fully expect responses that reduce this explanation for the frustation being a salted meat joke since you people are so boring and unsympathetic.
I'm not really sure I even get the "eat the Lalafell" jokes, nor do I really think I want to... Maybe it's because I'm new and such. But if you want a joke relating to food and Lalas without the food being Lalas, then come to Papashan's Pizza! (Because I swear, that's all I can think of whenever I see his name come up anywhere)
...I'll see myself out.
I started this thread and counted the posts until some rude tall one made a food comment. I didn't even need two hands to tick off the posts hahaha
Exactly!
The food jokes were funny the first time, now it's just cringy and facepalm worthy. As, Ametrine said, it's everywhere.... In pretty much every single lalafell centered tread, we get a few posts of fun and then bam! A non lala will post something to the effects of us being food. We need a special "only lalafells can post in this thread" button because that joke is so old dinosaurs were using it.
Except that joke isn't insulting someone elses character the way the potato jokes and other crap that people say about Lalas. I've actually had people try to kick me from a dungeon because I was a Lala, because Lalas are 'gross and deformed'.
Its not funny anymore.
Lalas need more seasoning. they taste kinda bland.
Yeah, see, this makes you sound like an awful person. Trying to be edgy?
This is just as much "hearsay" as anything. The design documents and quotes in the artbook constantly reference the idea that Lalafell are supposed to be very childlike and cute in the same way as we view baby animals to be. (That's also why some of the sexier gear options are noticably different on Lalafell models. Squick factor.)
The potato and food thing likely stems for from the flavor text in game that talks about large monsters having no issue with using the spoken races as prey, especially the physically smaller Lalafell.
It's framed to be nightmarish and revolting that these creatures would hunt innocent people, yet, English speaking forum users thought it was funny. How?
oh come on now, lighten up. All of the races get made fun of, its just theres so many lala's you see those jokes the most! I've been every race and heard it all. You know what I did instead of get upset about it? Laugh along with it and add to it. It's all in good fun.
So...question to all those that are tired of the food jokes.
Do you make the lolDRG jokes? Cause, you know...something about pots and kettles.
This is a great idea. It would be fun to request a piggyback ride from a party member. The animation could be a "pick me up!!" sort of thing.
Unfortunately, it would be hard to make it fair for other races, since I don't envision Roes being able to be carried on anyone's back.
Still, it would be very cute for Lalas!
I do not like lolDRG jokes, as it lead to many players who simply wanted to enjoy a famous FF job to being harassed instead of trying to teach how work with the jobs many animation locks. Red Mage recieving no similar flack shows the joke as a double standard despite Corps-a-Corps and Displacement doing the same things as the Jumps do.
Compare this to the jokes on Dark Knight's edginess, and furthermore sexy cat people.
I'll admit that it would be pretty neat if they did add the Viera as a playable race some day in the future. I'm willing to say that they're this MMO's version of the Pandaren (whom were also the oft requested race until MoP).
I do wish that Lalafells had functioning breast sliders. My Lalafell alt is a small adult person & I personally dislike the glamours that make Lalafell look childlike.
And could I get more facial hair options for male Miqote (like Rammbroes)? The peach fuzz they get isn't enough, and I don't want to pick the scrunched-up angry face to give my main the appearance of having a full beard.
As a Dragoon-main, I've become accustomed to lolDRG jokes. I've even made them from time to time. Seen my fair share of "Deadurai" jokes directed at Samurai. At least Monks no longer have "low damage = normal damage" jokes... for now.
Hold on, so you (and some others) are actually taking the feelings of harassment towards a fictional character as something serious? That tasteless (and harmless) jokes towards a fictional race in the game are something that should now be deemed taboo because feelings? That being called a potato, dinner, or referencing an object to be punted is going to seriously deter someone from picking the race more than any other petty reason?
This is bordering that fine line of communicating overused jokes and creepy empathy. The joke is already engraved into the race, no different than it was for Tarutaru in XI (the original joked about race Lala's were based from), and no different than lolDRG (another joked about theme from XI). It's okay that there's something to laugh about towards the job/race/whatever and it does not mean they're inferior or anything, unless the devs actually design them to be. The fact that people can joke about Lala's in the way they do, specifically that it's not a jab at performance, already implies there's nothing of merit to be up-in-arms about. If you were a Lala IRL, then that's another story, but we are talking about fiction... and it's not even hateful. So much so that you CAN reverse the jokes at people that communicate them (like me) and have fun at our expense.
4.1 should be no small thing for Lalas.
Hopefully they will not be looked down on, or even overlooked.
It is all too easy for some people (or some races) to take the high ground here.
Some might think that this concern is dwarfed by other issues but not me.
In fact to promote Lalas I'm thinking of creating a Minion partner thread. Similar to the marriage partner thread, but you get your own Lala to do with as you will.
Not even hateful? LOL.. Some people are downright NASTY with how they treat me because I play a Lala. I've had so-called friends that stopped talking to me because I fantasia'd into a Lala. It's one thing if you know the person and know they are okay with being poked fun at, its entirely another issue to go into a dungeon and be a complete jerk to a random stranger.
Am I maybe a little overly sensitive about it? Yea, maybe. But I'm honestly tired of being poked at by people just because I play the race that I like. I have enough selfconfidence issues without some jerkwad on the internet insulting me constantly every time I go into DF.
Yes! Thank you! A lot of my pals said I was crazy for wanting a breast slider that didn't turn my flat chest into itty bitty, barely visible to the eye, mosquito bites. Like, why is the one that we have even there? It has no function.
Sometimes I have a very androgynous look. Especially when I have my hair shorter. Which is fine! There is nothing wrong with that. I don't mind people being like, "Hey, what's up lil bro lala!" But, I'd like to look like a more feminine adult. Maybe not to the same extent as a Fem Roes (bless them, they are true goddesses), but something.
That situation you posed is a different matter and one I'd argue isn't normal. That's one where they took the matter too seriously... like they need psychiatric therapy levels of seriously. Those are, IMO, not the sort of people you really want to associate with, even in a game. Creepy ass folks to deal with on the daily. To be honest, some of the hateful responses really aren't to be taken seriously, at least from what I've personally seen on the game and on these forums. Yeah, some people take their jokes a little too far (as in to uncomfortable lengths of time), but it's generally pretty obvious they're playing into the thought. Your situation of people stopping their talks with you because of the fact you changed to a Lala is stupid and shouldn't be worth your time to feel concern over. Crazy ass people there.
It's one thing to be irritated about the constant jokes, similar to being irritated about a newsfeed being all about an overplayed topic of nothing, but it's another to take fiction seriously in a negative way. Unless someone starts to make it personal (i.e. it being about you and not something related to the fictional character), it's generally not intended to be taken seriously. When the jokes start being hurtful about the player and not the character, that's when you know there's something wrong with them.
I was sexually harassed by on old FC for changing from Miqo'te to Lalafell. I got the hell out of dodge (I left the game for months and jumped off the Datacenter it was so disturbing), and couldn't play Lalafell for more than few days without that betrayal of friendship looming back. The intense sensitivity I feel is very much a defense response to the hate.
I don't think beimg upset over broken friendships and random acts of harassment is "petty," myself, but I do understand your side in that it looks like that when most Lala players respond with (actually harmless) perfection jokes.
The whole bust slider being completely pointless in it's current form bothers me, too. I'm just on the fence with whether it should be changed to make the difference between 1 and 100 be greater than a few pixels, thus giving Lalafell females noticable breasts, or if they stick to their concept as designers and delete it to free up server strain.
Sliders are supposed to be far harder on server strain than any of the option toggles used otherwise, so cutting the one slider could result in things like, Highlander men having a proper eyebrow option or Auri horns being unlinked from faces.
Even though Lalafell girls would look nearly exactly the same, it's hard to explain to a fanbase that one race as one less customization option to give another more.
Assuming you're referring to my mention of "petty", it wasn't aimed at outliers such as harassment, when it comes to choosing one race over another. Though it's obvious that it's a ridiculous situation to have to be in or deal with, as per yours and that other players case. I'd associate that entirely on the other parties stupidity or sociopath tendencies than any fault of the victims.
Petty used there is in reference to reasons such as the potato comment being a deterrent for choosing one race over another. My word use with "petty" might be a little overly harsh to use in that context, but it is what it is. If I don't want to be a very short character that is easily regarded as cutesy, I'd call that a petty reason to not want to play one. Preferences are understandable, but just outright refusal for such things (like because said person is afraid to be called a potato) is where I'm deriving my use of it from. If someone wants to be a Lala, do it. The rest of us are just being stupid if jokes are made... I would hope that to be a relatively universal understanding that we're the idiots in those situations for playing the part of ignorant (playful) hate.
I've already gone into a DF dungeon on my whm and gotten "urrgg Lala" and the tank left. After a while, you start to twitch when the lala jokes start, even if the other person is only joking.
The constant /pets can also be disturbing when someone follows you around and just does /pet over and over.
What’s a forum without arguements?

Wow. There's victim blaiming, then there is writing a dissertation to pick apart every word of my displeasure of the habit of the forum community's tendency to derail all goofy lalafell themed threads at our expense.
Just for you.

I did not use the whole "master race" verbage, nor even used "racism" at any point in this thread, because incessant the bullying we're complaining about being compared to systematic racism that ruins actual lives is a gross injustice in and of itself. I have learned this, especially with current events.
Also, I am, under no circumstance, required to tell you the unfortunate story behind my old FC, the gaslighting, the discomfort,
the same "its just a joke," but it's absolutely absurd to tell me that my choice to turn off the game when I was put into a nasty situation FOR MY OWN SANITY AND WELL BEING, was wrong.
I know I'm sick of being called "Boring" becuase I'm a Hyur. Nothing even remotely boring about Humans, or Hyur. Spiral power baby.
You don't actually see the irony of that pic, do you? Everyone in this thread was goofing around and having a good time, making jokes about character races (including their own) in good humor. Then you stomp in and start trying to impose your misguided paranoia upon anyone and everyone who says anything about a lalafell in jest if they're not a lalafell themselves. So...according to you, the only ones welcome in this thread are 'fellow lalafells' (and isn't that an absurdity, considering fantasia pots nullify that swiftly), and others who come in with 'tired and used' memes are unwelcome....completely overlooking the fact that the 'lalafell master race' jokes are JUST as overused. The hypocrisy is real. It also smacks of racism....if this wasn't a game. But it is. And I'll be honest; if people typing words on a screen actually bother you so much that you needed to leave so you wouldn't go insane....buddy you need help. You also needed to report them so their disgusting behavior would have been stopped right there.....but that's just my opinion.
ITT: angry potatoes!
Just kidding, you lil fellers are alright in my book. Except for the evil ones (you know who you are!)
Also as far as teasing goes, I'd say it's pretty balanced among the races except for roes since they're so rare in general.
