something tells me your one of those people who will never be happy, and thats ok
this game is optional to play for a reason, no one is forcing you :D

They're still doing everything to make this game a success, and that includes charging fees. The game needs to stand on it's own or get dropped. I for one am surprised they held it off so long since they said they'd charged when they had the roadmap and stuff.
People would still rage even if they held off fees till 2.0 and offered a 50% discount until the end of time. People are just greedy, might as well get it over with now.
fabulous
Ah, these threads and certain choice posts...
lol.
Isn't it funny how one word can derail a topic so well?
Edit: F*cking iPad posting wrong pictures >_>;
It's the right pic now bitchezz

for the billionth time as well, this part of the mmo is called "Development" ....the game goes threw this part without usually being online cause ummm...u don't launch a game not ready. but either way...this past year and another year coming is development. you don't make profit in this part, the only cost that is extra is maintaining servers and fixes for stuff that is gonna be wiped out either way at 2.0. but in long run they took our box sales so that should cover that easily i would think.
development = there cost not ours. sorry but most of you are just mental. i get it i don't want the game to do bad either but you either ok with paying a company your money for a broken game or your not. hell i might of payed to if there was just something for me to do in game. if they stayed pay to play when game launched i probably would of payed for a good 6-8months b4 probably realizing i shouldn't be paying lol. but either way not worth it and it truly shouldn't cost anyone this money for there mistakes and development costs for a game.
again lol .... D E V E L O P M E N T
ask SE if you can get a cut of there profits at 2.0 for paying for the next year and if they say yes then hell i'll pay to play too. :)
by the way i'll see you guys probably at .21 i'ma chill on swtor till then. i'll come back long as there is really gonna be a server merger. or else 2.0 is my log in date.
I wouldn't ask anyone to even play FFXIV until 5 months after version 2. The problem with this game is they need to readjust everything at every patch. Nothing even feels right cus its all uncompleted.
Well, imma do this but, I'm not going to like it too much:

This does seem awfully familiar though, reminds me of donkeys and Gil sinks for some reason. . .
I think it's a great time that they asked people to start paying. All I really know is from my LS, but what I experience is that the people who are quitting are the people who are bored, and just don't enjoy the game no matter what you do as a LS to try and make it fun. Those people who aren't going to pay are the same people who haven't been playing much for the last couple months. Sure there might be 2% who really can't afford to pay so choose not to, but we would have lost them anyway. I know my LS will take a minimal hit because the active people who log in everyday really like the game, and have a good time with us. The people who quit are the people I never really new anyway because they never log in.
I'm happy to see SE start making a bit of money. Maybe they will use that extra income to bring in more devs, start new projects, or.. something.
I'm sure there will be people who are hardcore with lots of 50s. Perhaps a couple of these will quit, but I really don't see that. They put too much time into it you know?
goodbye trolls, hello server merge!
At this point, it can't get much worse in terms of population (I don't think), they figure the active 10,000-15,000 players left will probably pay if they've stuck it out this long.

From all the stats the JP have accumulated, it's been pretty steady between 10 and 15k, so I assume it'll head towards the 10k mark come billing time. Least it's 100,000$ in SE's pocket to help maintain servers and what not. It's good and bad that only active players will be able to post, cause most active players left really don't see too much wrong with the game and offer some ridiculous suggestions at times. On the other hand, some less active players bash bash bash to the point where they just shouldn't play.
Don't think I'll pay for the first couple months, I'll see how things progress reading through the forum notes and what not. If things get significantly better, I'll still have quite a few months to experience the new things going on.
I don't think trolls will be gone because if anyone says anything negative they're instantly labelled as a troll and thus when SE does something someone else doesn't like and is paying for the change they don't like as well? I think it may even be worse lol.
You realize those are from the JP players who take a look across days right and total the numbers? You really do have the IQ of a rock don't you? You really can't accept that this game probably has 10-20,000 players left can you?
Even if it is peak times, most servers barely hit 1,000, so at peak times across all servers, you can't even hit 18,000 players! So let's go with middle ground and say 600 players across 18 servers on average, that's 10,800 players. I really doubt on slow times you can expect that number to double or have that many different people logging on.
I won't ever be happy because I don't want to pay a monthly fee for an MMO that I could do everything in from scratch in about a month? The total lack of content at this point in time, as well as SE's refusal to fix basic social functions like party search and the linkshell problems in a timely manner is the reason I don't want to pay. That certainly doesn't mean the game doesn't please me, or that I hate it. I adored this game before it ever came out, I defended it time and again for over a year publically before realizing its going to take a considerable amount of time to bring this game up to the standards I came to expect from playing FFXI. The fact that it isn't anywhere near those standards RIGHT NOW is the reason I don't want to play. My support for the game for over a year makes me feel as if I am a little entitled to critisize what they want to start charging me for, as does my initial 80$ investment. No one wants this game to thrive more than I do (except maybe TonyMOntana) but just because I dont put blinders on along with my douchebag dragon hat and blindly accept w/e they want to do with my money given the current condition of this game doesn't mean I won't ever be happy. Get the game to a point where there is literally so much for me to do that I don't know where to begin, and I will happily pay a monthly fee. But throwing stupid holiday festivals while taking over a year to fix basic social functions when the game is turning into a ghost town isn't my idea of a wise investment.
You are so wrong dude, as of Jan 6th no one on these forums will ever speak poorly of FFXIV again. The half dozen trolls will be purged and the few hundred thousand happy paying customers will live in harmony, coming to the forums only to discuss fight strats and to give each other and the dev team encouragement.
This place will be amazing and the terrible trolls will not be able to ever post again because none of them bought any crysta and anyone who plans to purchase crysta just for the ability to troll these forums will instantly explode when they try to purchase the crysta.
Its gonna be beautiful man.
Exactly, I'm saying 10,000 to maybe 20,000 total. If there's 11,000 at peak times, and those are probably the more recurring players, you really think there's an extra what, 10,000...20,000 players offline that are going to log on at some other time? Of those 11,000, many of them will be recurring, i'd be hard pressed to believe that there's more than 20,000 active players.
people who still pay and play arent the issue
but you cant deny there are alot of people who dont touch this game anymore who just come in to talk nonstop trash and those are the ones that will be gone first and never come back
then we got people like you who will follow once they have no more crysta to bug us with
50% is ALOT of players for peak hours, and i just cant see that being the case in any game
there are at the very least 30k players(1/3 on at peak hours)
lets remember, for 1/3 of the population to be on at any given time you assume thats at least everyone playing 8 hours a day
while alot of us in the forums think this way cuz we are gaming addicts for the most part, a majority of people who play these games ARE NOT addicts like us, dont participate in forums like us, and so on and so forth, they play for small periods each day
i know several people in my shell alone who play for 30 minutes to an hour tops each day if even that long. now granted thats also not a normal alotment of playing either, but to think that half the population is usualy on during peak times is just downright ignorant
You also need to factor in people standing AFK who just don't log off, mules, that's a whole lot of people. There's a reason why in FFXI I see the SAME people standing around Jeuno all the time. I think half the population is on at peak time for sure. It's the only time I bother to log on cause there's people on, otherwise it's a waste of time and you can't even find anyone searching for parties.
Later players haters wanna be skaters
I think he's onto something. The servers are dead, and I'd say 10k subscriptions is where we're currently at. Maybe a little above, but those people who rarely log in would be hard pressed to pay for a game they only visit once an update.
@Monty You're totally right. My LS, and most of the bigger LS on our server has "AFK" Spots. My LS usually has 15-35 people online at any one moment. Out of that, there is at LEAST 5-10 people sitting at our AFK spot. I'm sure all of you can think back to your Ul'dah and you know all the "AFK" spots people sit throughout uldah. Then add into that... got sidetracked writing this from my ls.. not sure where i was going with this... I'll just hit post haha
Well I have added my Crysta for 6months play :D
In fact, once billing starts, these forums will be completely unnecessary. That's because the only people who are left will be the people who love SE and everything in FFXIV exactly the way it is so there won't be anything left to talk about~~!
(You can't tell but I almost wrote that with a straight face. Seriously, Final Fantasy fans who never have anything to complain about? I'm beginning to question whether you're really a fan yourself...)
I have been here since day 1 and will remain here until the end
