Yes, there was an interview before in which Yoshida said that they were planning it.

Now this is what I would like more people to think about; people were like you would never be able to use the "Gods" blah blah blah *see other smner thread* but I like this idea you fight them and then they say ok you fought well Ill let you control a minion or pet of mine here. I think this is how they should be done :D
I want a busty summon, one with a big butt.
Now my dreams aside I foresee ffxiv going into steampunk heavy dimension.
Hunweapons, gunblade, gunlance already exist..but I foresee the magitech armors and bikes as well as mechanical "summons".
Maybe mech versions of primals created by the garleans to fight them?
they will add a summoner class sometime in the future, not sure if they will add it in 1.21, but past 2.0 for sure, that is the only class i love in any ff game, they must add it, what is ff without summons, healers, black mages, and dragoons, a regular game.
2.0 has it's own beetah.
SE has re-invented the wheel a dozen times in the previous decade (with reasonable success from design pov) and all fans do is punish them for it.
So get real. People want to play the SAME game over and over again because they liked it the first time and think they will like it as much the second time. "Go back to roots square baawhaaaw".
Mentioning SE and rehash in the same sentence is irony at it's finest considering their franchises have done nothing but change ever since the last decade. All they re-use is the name (because let's be honest, that's what the shallow fans can think about when considering a purchase).

Carbuncle... yes please.. we need it. its so "fluffy" ;D
Final Fantasy 12 summons would fit also into FF14:
Belias - fire

Ixion - thunder

im all for this idea but i know a lot of people that hated the fact that FFXII didnt use any traditional summons.
FFXII summons were some of my favorite in the entire franchise. even the backgrounds were awesome. scions of darkness, hell yeah!
im still waiting for my Ivalice MMO.
I could do without carbuncle.
I'll clarify this guys.
It's been said that the Primals will become "Clan summons", and only one Guild at a time can have the primal. I think there will probably be a time limit on how long you can keep them, and you can only use them ONCE before you have to fight the Primal again. Yoshida did say that the Primals themselves would affect the world when they're used, so I can see why they could be guild-only.
I expect summoner to have their own summons.
Found this in the 3rd v2.0 .pdf
So I guess the summoner class/job won't be getting Primals as their summons.Quote:
Summoning system that awards the ability to summon primals to Free Companies that defeat them.
People hating the FFXII summons?!
LUNACY!
Looking at the CE Boxart I was under the impression Siren was "human" race's Primal.

Though in all fairness, It does kind of look like Garuda as well.
On added note, not related to this response, I noticed a few people say XII had bad "invented" summons, implying they were made for XII, you might want to check up on your FF,Espers that appear in XII have been around since tactics, the reason you haven't seen them in games like X, X-2, XI, XIII, is because these just happen to be A little more exclusive to Ivalice, they're older than some of the more popular summons.
XII summons were a train wreck. I want a Shiva, Ramuh and Ifrit back but this time designed by Yoshitaka Amano with Akihiko's tweaks to make them work in 3d.
Seriously.
The FFXII summons have been the best new thing added to the franchise in a while (to be fair, many of them existed earlier in FFT, and FFT:A) They reside in a tier above the current summoned creatures pantheon as very distinct characters.
The summons are not only tied to the zodiac, but five of them are clearly interpretations of the first five FF final bosses.
FFI: Chaos, Walker of the Wheel
FFII: Corrupt Emperor Mateus
FFIII: Framfrit, The Cloud of Darkness
FFIV: Zeromus
FFV: Exodus (Exdeath)
I would like to see the rest of the bosses from FFVI-FFXIII reinterpreted as Zodiac summons as well for XIV and/or future FF Games.
FFVI - Kefka (Zelara, Angel of Death)
FFVII - Jenova - (a variation of Shemhazai)
FFVIII - Ultimecia - (Ultima)
FFIX - Necron - (Adrammelech)
FFX - Sin (CĂșchulainn)
FFXI - Shadowlord (an interpretation of Belias)
FFXII - The Undying (Hashmal)
FFXIII - Orphan (Zodiark)
The Final Fantasy Series has a fantastic mythos established, and there is no reason it should not be drawing from it's own history in the creation of new summons.
Knights of The Round
Doom Train
They could make it make sense somehow
To Yoshida-san:
As Jinrya, Seif and others have pointed out, when you bring up the term "Summoner" there are certain major connotations that come with it:
- Please consider allowing the Summoner Job to actually summon Final Fantasy's most famous Summons (Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut, etc.).
You mention wanting to bring back the "Final Fantasy feeling" into this game. By forcing the most famous and anticipated Summons (Ifrit, Shiva, Titan, etc.) to be summoned ONLY by Companies (and only 1 Company at a time per Server, for a limited time window) it basically makes the Summoner Job a disappointment. :(
The Summoner (from Rydia to Yuna and beyond) have always successfully displayed this amazing feeling of summoning the hallmarks of the Final Fantasy franchise. When I think of "Summoner" I anticipate being able to summon Leviathan or Shiva or Ifrit.
If it turns out that "Summoner" in Final Fantasy XIV is just using lesser Summons or Elementals, that'll really feel like a disappointment for many. One example I had from a few months ago, imagine you're showing off your Summoner Job in Final Fanasy XIV to a friend:
Friend: "Show me your Summoner! Let's see Bahamut or Garuda or Shiva!"
You: "Oh, sorry, I can't summon anything like that, but I can show you a Fire Elemental."
People don't want to play "Summoner" in Final Fantasy to summon a Fire or Ice Elemental. They want to play Summoner to summon Ifrit or Shiva or Knights of the Round, etc.
I applaud the reasoning behind wanting to make the Summon really impressive (you stated that the Weather will change, and the environment will be scorched when Ifrit was summoned by a Company), and while that does connote the grandeur of Ifrit's destructiveness, you've undermined the entire Summoner Job doing it.
People have brought up some ideas to limit the destructiveness, such as allowing the Summoner Job to summon the Primals like Ifrit, Shiva, etc., but limit their big attacks to be "2 Hour Abilities (like FF XI)." That's one way. Or make it even longer if need be.
But at least allow the Summoner Job to call upon the memorable, fan favorite Summons that they actually *care* about. Not some random Elemental, or obscure / revised Summon that's basically a poor replacement.
Thanks.
I think we should be able to summon :
