The second boss was really hard for me thanks to colorblindness but once I found the safe spots and saw that the one tentacle stops moving, I was able to manage. I was just discussing with my FC about how forgiving the majority of these mechanics are this time. Which is both good and bad, I guess.
I was just all fanboy over the FFV stuff, I admit it, but I really didn't think the end boss would be that, I was expecting Necrophobe, because I thought they'd save the tree for the next one like they did Xande. Incidentally I wonder if Greg will help with Necrophobe if he/it shows up....
Except the first boss that I found boring I really liked the others. Specially 3rd boss that was really fun.
I think the fact that it drops tokens for level 320 gear tells you everything you need to know about the intended difficulty. Savage is in 2 weeks.
Omega's story is totally fine as long as you see it for what it is: a paper-thin excuse to recycle old Final Fantasy bosses (under the pretense of "homage" or "callback", natch). In which case, the weird arrangements of letters in dialogue boxes that pass for "story" really don't matter.
Actually, I hope Square Enix goes all the way with it. You might as well throw in Sephiroth or Jecht while you're at it. Heck, why not have the entire cast of Dissidia show up? That's like, at least 20 bosses there man! You don't even need a reason, just say "Omega made them, fight plz"! You don't even need to do any visual design work!
As for the fights themselves, I never expect the Normal Mode 8-man or the 24-man to ever be significant challenges. Extreme Primals fill the gap of Midcore challenge between casual content and "hardcore" savage. I don't think anyone should expect Omega to be at all difficult in normal mode; it's only there to farm i320 gear.
Feel the void
the best 8 raid by far, the bosses have interesting mechanics and while tons are "lol dps and heal" , i cant see the extreme modes being tons of fun
the most interesting is 3rd boss , tons of things going on and the tableboard thing is cool , the phase out :o , yes! thats cool! more of those please!
the final boss :3
oh and alpha rocks ! , i want a minion or a rideable alpha NOW ! <3
Nothing has matched Coil in terms of lore/story coolness, and gear design IMHO.
I actually thought the third boss was most interesting. The game board and sliding puzzle were unlike anything we have gotten before and I actually enjoyed the forced movement combined with the stack circle.
I'm actually most excited about that fight on savage mode than any other.
Can't edit on mobile but I wanted to address this for folks that might not be familiar with the series. Alpha is an identical copy of the chocobo from final fantasy fables chocobos dungeon on the wii. Whether that ties in to the greater story is anyone's guess.
I still am sticking with my dissidia theory though.
I love it so far. V is my favorite in the series so I might be a little biased. It's also my first time healing an 8 man, so it's refreshing change of pace. I got a Critlo for 11k during 4.0 and the tank was invincible the whole duration.
Speaking of 4.0, did anyone else think he showed up too soon? I figured he'd be 8.0 or 10.0 or 11.0. Now I'm curious. Enuo will probably be 11.0. I wonder Greg will show up for 8.0.
more than you think Alpha is the heroes of the chocobo dungeon series ^^, he is a badass chocobo! he can have jobs too that explain why we are placed at the same level than him haha.
anyway, story wise, it's cool i like where it go, i'm curious to see who will be the next inspiration for the boss. (since it can be anything and everything) plus this 89 number make me think they are the 89 big boss of the ff series :x then scary thought no?
about the difficulty, it's perfect, it's the first part of the raid 8 in NORMAL, if you want hard, wait 2 week and try the savage. a lot of people will get better at fight boss this interesting, more appealed to try end game content. than being crushed by normal content too hard for what it is. a story mode dungeon....
my only grips in this raid, is the look of the gear that make everyone in robe... even ninja and monk.... seriously? i did notice that often the armor are overthetop, like they try always to add something special for make it woa... and i feel it's not needed, most of them armor are insanely beautifull... don't need to add this small detail that will make everything over the top. people like normal gear, flashy gear are not always what people wear. if you look the glamour most people prefer have a cool nice look. and that why some armor are not liked.
outside this on 10 i will give it a 8/10 (i don't count the gear apperance or the note will have go down to 6/10) i can't wait to see what come next.
that what i think too, i'm sad to think that we will only 3 dimension, it have the potential for have more dimension then more series.
ps: a wild thought, what if...we don't fight omega at the end of the raid, but instead into a trial? i means the goal of this raid is test our fighting capacity... plus we are into his dimension. then technically we can't kill him there.
Another casual-ish type. I pushed all the Alex raids from opening and I loved the music and varied mechanics. But most importantly, the difficulty. It was tough without the gear and not learning mechanics = wipes and success was deliciously satisfying.
This was a joke. Went through all 4 this morning and 0 wipes. Zero satisfaction too.
I expect savage will be about same difficulty as savage Alex, but I was not that hardcore. I wanted a decent challenge like 3.0 raids. Instead this Expansion has felt a bit like it's extreme difficulty (extremes and last trial) or a joke that neither presents a challenge or prepares you for the challenges to come. ( I love the extremes and enjoyed the MSQ end trial, but the ramp up of difficulty blindsided so many because all content up to that point was laughably easy)
These fights are a lot more fun than the first four from Alexander and Coil, in my opinion. I do appreciate the soundtrack for the fact that it is FF music in general, and I love me some FF music. Gear design isn't my favorite, but they did let us know it was going to be FFXIV's version of "Genji gear", so I can't really complain much if I knew it was gonna happen.
You mean content within the first two weeks of an expansion is easy? Who would have guessed...
It's not like Alex/Midas was more difficult in a way than Gordias was for normal mode. Oh wait..
Loved everything about the new Omega content, can't wait to see more ^^
on the whole it was pretty easy. second one was probably the trickiest of the lot. but still easy.
Regarding OP and tank swaps though. it seems the first fight is "meant" to have one.. tank gets a debuff and the next hit smashes em down to 1hp or something. seems like something you "should" swap for but we simply didn't need to.
we honestly didn't pick up very much at all from the first one. it was just whack it till it's dead, and it died incredibly easily. i think that debuf was the only thing we picked up the rest of it seemed to make no difference whetehr we tried to do something or just blatently ignored it.
Well I did not play the older FF games so I do not have any connections to the raid itself. Yet the story felt way more interesting for me than the whole SB and I just want to know how it will end. I also liked all the characters in it and loved that Middy is back. The chocobo is so cute. I really hope that he will survive this raid and that we may get a minion of him. I am also happy that nobody dies since I am kinda sick of deaths after HW.
So yes I found the story really good, even though the talk between the fights were not that interesting.
The fights itself are mixed for me. The first boss is really boring and we did him without a wipe. The second one (Tentacle-chan) took us around three wipes and lots of stuff happened. Yet you were able to learn from your mistakes and it was nice to figure it out. (Other than the eye mechanic x) that took a while longer) The thing that annoyed me the most in this fight were the two people that talked in "internet language"..(m8 and such things) so I never truly knew if they did not just insult us the whole time. The third one was fun but also quite easy. Not only did the boss said what to do (I distrusted it and was punished for that..) but it was really obvious the whole time. The mini game part was funny and something new so I enjoyed it too. The last fight needed at least four tries till we got it down but we were mostly new people in there. Still if you have seen each mechanic it became really easy and we would have done it with less wipes if the healers would have been a bit better.
So in the end only boss 3 was really a fun and interesting fight and I dont really feel like wanting to go back to those fights..The music was fine but nothing outstanding.
And lets not talk about the gear. It has nothing to do with omega and imo its looks bad and the colors for the mage set is just not my type.
Not exactly the issue. Easier content is cool. The disparity between no-brain content and challenging content is the issue (no organic opportunity for folks to improve or set expectations for difficulty ramp-up).
(Also, as many have stated, content this easy is quickly consumed; not satisfying, memorable, or fun). This is not about the theme, but about non- MSQ no-brain-lol content that should have been more of a challenge. Not asking for Extreme-ish difficulties, but there IS a middle ground that can be fun and teach/prep folks for savage.
The difficulty of this content is tuned so that everyone will actually want to go in and farm for their "Shaft" until they get a body piece. much higher and this won't be farmable in DF the way the playerbase will want to do it.
i don't like him but at least he fits the story. Omega-Shinryu battle was super serious, so is Omega's threat to randomly murder people.
it's a contradiction that doesn't need to exist. we didn't have any of that with Zenos or Fordola in the main SB quest line. Doma had more light moments but never to this degree.
Me too, I hope each sphere borrows completely from a different FF game.
Predictions :
2nd serie --> FFIX
- 1.0 : Zorn & Thorn
- 2.0 : Beate
- 3.0 : Ozma (the return)
- 4.0 : Kuja
3rd serie --> FFX
- 1.0 : Chocobo Eater
- 2.0 : Yunalesca
- 3.0 : Anima
- 4.0 : Seymour
The end --> 0.0 : Omega
Hopefully we can get cornellia song in the future..
FFXIV = No matter how hard you try, some of those in the English Forum will just hate on it.
Although it's amazing see the french, german, and japanese forums compared to ours. The difference is pretty vast regarding the general attitude.
We are indeed the nation of me. This will show my age, but half of our forum threads reminds me of the snobby girl from "Little House on the Prairie." There is no pleasing some people and there will always be complaining (seriously, look at all the topics on the front page here and then go to the Japanese forums and look at theirs)
The only thing I found disappointing was the fact that when Exdeath ran out of HP, the duty was complete. Something definitely felt missing there.
Well, yea, but it was the exact same thing that happened in Gordias. That's the point I was trying to get at. I said nothing about theme or brainless content. In an expansion with many people returning, it is expected for the first area to be easy, at least in my opinion. What matters is what the next two normal modes will be like for Omega, as well as Ivalice.
Considering how easy Gordias normal was, I expected about the same and got that much out of it. I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing to have a one off that would warm up newer players to mechanics. Is it bad early on? Sure, but that is what Savage and later expansion content showed, as Heavensward is a clear reminder of it with Final Steps of Faith. That has been the way the game has been for years now, where casual content is meant to be quickly consumed on purpose for the most part. I am not sure why this is still a surprise for some people.
Same thing happened with Mhach and Dun Scaith, and despite how hilariously it goes with new players, it's still quickly consumed. I do fully agree that the difficulty spikes need to be normalized somehow, but I wonder if it is too late to attempt it. I think the Royal Menagerie is a good start, but it could be upped further.
As for the theme that people complain about, though I know it isn't you in specific? Grow a pair.
I think this is an FF5 themed raid series. Syldra Mount, Chicken knife weapon, Omega, Rifts, Ex-Death etc.... I think each sphere will be strictly FF5 themed bosses.
Next tier:
1.0 Phobos/Triton/Nereid

3.0: Necrophobe
4.0: Azulmagia
Last Tier
1.0 Gilgamesh

3.0 Enuo
4.0 Omega Prime
