How can you play that? I'm playing Dragon Age: Origins. Never had the time to play that when it was released. But now I see that it is really a good game. Not as good as Baldur's Gate was, but still quite good. I really miss that spell system that was in those old AD&D games. Starting as a mage was really hard, but later you could be almost as tough as a god. Turning an enemy to dust with a single disintegrate spell. And even on lower levels there were some good spells. I could roast 4 cobolds alive with a single level 2 Agganazar's Scorcher spell, if they happen to be so unlucky as to get in a single row by the time I finish my casting, and all four fail their saving throws against fire. And level 3 lightning bolt was so good, it could kill any enemies that got in its way if they fail all their saving throws versus electricity. And even if they succeed they still got some damage. And it all was so natural. Druid couldn't call lightning indoors. And you should be really careful when casting mass destruction spells, or else you could roast you allies instead, unless they have high magic resistance. And even with that there always was a slight chance they would fail their magic resistance throw. That was real fun. Now it's all so simplified. And there was real diversity in classes. Playing a mage or a thief was much harder than a fighter, but on higher levels you could get such possibilities a warrior could never dream about. Now there is so much as only 3 different classes in Dragon Age with some specializations available. There is some difference between them, but it doesn't actually matter all that much which one you choose. There are more fighting classes in Final Fantasy XIV, but I fail to see much difference. They have very little unique abilities. And that possibility to reallocate points is absolutely ridiculous. It feels like your game character can mutate at will. You should be able to allocate points, but not reallocate them. And there should be a precise description what they influence. So that you will either focus on allocating points in regard of a certain profession, having big advantages with it and disadvantages with others, or you will be a generalist, not having big advantages with any profession, but will still be quite adequate with any art or craft. Or focus on a combination of several professions instead of all of them. That could lead to a much more playing characters diversity, and therefore more fun of playing. Right now there is only difference in appearance, but everything else doesn't matter much, as you can always reallocate your points to better suit your other profession.
Dragon Age 2. It's something to do in my free time. I've actually taken more responibility for my college work too... FF was a major draw from it for a while. God Bless Japan! I have heard that their economy will actually benefit from this tragedy in the long term. It is hard to think about benefitting from such a terrible loss of life, but in the end I think they deserve to be able to have some good come of it.
Becouse i don't like Dragon Age at all.Quote:

I have now finished bulletstorm, and just need to round out some achievments for gamerscore
and pokemon is getting tons of play time, just beat elite 4 for first time, now to do it again, catch all the pokemon im missing, transfer a whole pokedex worth of crap from platinum.
level up everything for competition readiness, and bam im done.
I'm using my free time to drink more alcohol.
I have been stuck to the forums..
dang, Final Fantasy 14 is failing. I love the game with all my heart, but honestly the devs need to do something to keep gamers interested. Tons of new MMO's are coming out and i hate them all cept FF. So unless SE can do something cool, i fear the worst that the game will surely come to an end.
buttt in the meantime im playin Dragon Age 2 and GTA 4: EFLC with my friends :D
This is why I feel they need to go ahead and move the servers, the population is already very very low. People have been leaving the game while it was available to play(servers up) and free to play. I am scared to see what 1-8 weeks of down time would do to the population.
heh, I'm also playing GTA4 and trying to beat single player mode. I bought this game on it's release day, and never really played it other than doing freeplay mode online with a few friends. The funnest mode in the game is freeplay online. There is no point, just roll around the city with friends doing drive-bys on other people.
Because doing that's totally as easy as that, just tell them to do it and bam it's done. Moving the servers or even creating new ones would be a monumental project that would take a great deal of time. It's not like they can wave a magic wand and it's done. Even if they decided to at this point, they probably wouldn't be operational before the current servers are back up. It's not like this is a common occurrence, it's a rare natural disaster of unprecedented magnitude.
And from what I've read, the game may be back up in 1-2 weeks.
Given the worsening situation in Japan, moving the servers (even if only temporarily) is the right decision for S-E as a company. Not to downplay the crisis, but S-E is losing money and customers right now, not just from XIV but from XI as well. It may take some time to prepare the servers for relocation, but it would most likely be less time than waiting for Japan to get the infrastructure repaired.
Let's not forget that besides the nuclear reactors failing, there are miles of power lines that need to be repaired. Getting industries back online will be a priority, as Japan is taking a major financial blow right now, but the humanitarian relief will still top it for awhile. This may be a rare event, but let's not kid ourselves: the reconstruction of the country will be a long process.
With that said, if they do move the servers, I can't imagine it being any less than a permanent move. Taking them down to relocate them back to Japan once the country is on it's feet would be just as detrimental as leaving them offline right now (assuming it takes a couple weeks to prep and ship the hardware and data). People are more forgiving in the wake of natural disaster, but once recovery takes hold they won't be. I'm sure there are other logistical issues that go with moving as well, like: where does the dev team reside if the servers are moved?
In any event, I expect them to be down for at least a month as S-E weighs the options and takes action, or the unlikely event that the energy conservation act is lifted.
Yeah, especially when you make such excerpts throwing out everything in-between and probably not even reading my previous posts. In some cases you can even change black to white and back with that technique of yours. But I still feel I have to explain myself. My viewing of Japanese people of power, government in particular, is based on viewing Zatoichi series with Shintaro Katsu as Zatoichi. Don't even waste your time on viewing Takeshi Kitano's version. Quite a poor remake. Almost a complete nonsense. But those with Shintaro Katsu really show how arrogant those samurai were. I am quite sure that most of the modern Japanese government are descendants of samurai like those. Many things have changed since those times, of course. But I am quite sure that those who hold power are still retain that arrogance.
Well, after Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age really seems to be quite poor. But after playing many other modern games, including some so-called RPGs, and FFXIV too, I now find Dragon Age really enjoyable. Not as good as Bladur's Gate, of course. But after those ridiculously childish Neverwinter Nights series, it seems to be good anyway. I should admit that it could be hard to play and enjoy for casual players. But that is the truth for any hardcore RPG. What I don't like about Dragon Age is that BioWare after all changed their spell system from AD&D to a more simple like in other RPGs. Otherwise it's a real hardcore RPG. BioWare added more action in DA2 to attract more casual players. I hope they didn't spoil the RPG part. Haven't played it yet, as I want to finish Origins and Awakening before starting DA2. And not just finish it, which would be easy and fast enough, but play it through like I played every hardcore RPG before. Where would be fun to play it otherwise?
And there is also Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, especially for those who likes more action, and The Witcher 2 will be released in May. What I like about The Wither is non-linearity. The first game was just a remake of Sapkovsky's Wiedzmin books. They made it look like it is a sequel, but there are too many déjà vu. Looks more like a remake to me. I think they only made it to be a sequel in order to add non-linearity without being accused of perverting the story, like it was with the TV series. But in the second game there surely should be something completely new. Also I noticed that after The Witcher was released, BioWare started to add more non-linearity to their games too. They must have seen a competition to their own games there.
And I should agree with somebody above. I don't like other MMOs besides FF too. Most of them are complete nonsense. I even think that MMORPG is a dead end for RPG as a whole. But Square Enix is definitely trying to make something special of FFXIV. Or, at least, tries to make everybody feel that way. Anyway, I think I'll take a several months break to play those other good games I mentioned above. I only hope that SE won't start charging monthly fees before I will be ready to return, or else I will probably have to cancel my FFXIV subscription, and I am not sure I want it. If only there was an option to suspend it without losing any character data. Somewhere either in the terms of service, or in user's agreement or something like that they mentioned that they don't guarantee a safety of character data on any canceled services, and I don't like that, because there is no option to suspend instead of canceling.
