You are actually burning a def CD for damage still, it just changed to Thrill of War.

Overall on 8 man's you are correct in that you can play off and switch stances planned and not waste BG. But of course that will result in WAR having to do a ton of planning for the timing of the fight, which is a new burden. The dps rotation is pretty strict now, more so then say that of the reworked Dragoon, which is odd for a tank. The real plain is felt in 4 man's that makes the class just not fun to play. It is in that content that not being able to stance change, without pen, hurts the most. That and the time it takes to build gauge. Basically, say you open in Def on a 4 man boss, you build some aggro and some gauge with it. Burn the gauge (likely on a Upheaval and one IB). Stance change. Now build to 100 gauge and release your IR/Zerk, are very high burst phase.... which comes when the boss is sub 50%... meaning you also likely incurred delays along the way in mechs and phase changes/jumps. It just makes WAR so awkward to play, to say the least. When we are overgearing content more, that stance change might come sooner, but aggro management is a big issue when you are not in tank stance, and your rotation no longer includes a aggro combo.

And after having to endure all that, the Pally will still out dps you by 20%.

Which is why I said it was my feedback thus far. War was my main class for the first 2 years of the game, before switching to drg for HW. I always played war, just didn't raid on it in HW (some trials but no alex).

No, it's still an unfavorable DPS loss if you need Inner Beast because you have to rebuild the gauge in Defiance. Maybe it's no cost to the gauge, but it's still a punishment for stance dancing.

yea stance dancing is too costly for wars considering all their dps is linked to their gauge. Ive got war and pld both to 70 now both in 314 gear and I have to work twice as hard to pull the same dps on my war compared to paladin and bring none of the utility pld provides lol paladins swap isnt even bad, their gauge is only used for sheltron/intervention so the only potency loss is some mana and a gcd. I love war its been my main since 1.0 but i cant find a reason to play it come savage content in its current state over pld, who is easier to play.

WAR has been stripped of its identity and as a result it\\'s a lot less engaging and fun to play.
The loss Blood bath and the nerfs to the healing potency of IB and path have really damaged the self-healing aspect of our job. Popping bloodbath and berserk on larger pulls was fun and provided a unique opportunity to test the limits of the job in 4-man content. I can understand nerfing IB because of the potential to use 3-6 of them in a row, however practical/impractical that may be.
Stance dancing was a fun and engaging way to tank that sped up the fights due to the need to utilize and manage your abilities and skills. Which is part of the reason WAR feels so clunky and awkward, because the play style or gameplay is now at a much slower speed as a result.
What really upsets me about the changes is the loss of identity and the decreased gameplay speed.Whereas before I had an engaging unique job to play, I\\'m now just a guy with an axe who tanks.

We'll we've always been melding str on the accessories anyways. However after reading that reddit post and some testing IB only seems to heal for 88% of the actual damage and SP only for 44% of dmg dealt at lvl 70. Tested using i310 axe with ilvl 305. I now realize why the tool tip is the way it is now and now I'm even more angry at the changes. I find this to be very insulting in addition to the gauge penalty for stance dancing. PLD and DRK only have to wait 1 gcd to switch stances, we have to wait 10 seconds. SE you messed up.

If you think melding STR on accessories makes up for the difference in Attack Power compared to actual damage dealers, you need to read the comments more closely. Remember, damage = aggro. My only guess is that SE will probably change the aggro modifiers when having a damage curve keep up with dps would be more organic.

However, I absolutely disagree with punishment of stance dancing.

If the other tank dies then you have to switch to Defiance immediately which is gonna halve your gauge. I don't think its fair that I'm being punished because someone else messed up.

Same here, played as Marauder in 1.0 before even the concept of jobs were introduced, all that died at Stormblood released. Except I couldn't even switch to PLD or any tank jobs for that matter, just doesn't sit right with me.

If you die, the DRK has to spend a good chunk of its MP to pop Grit, and loose access to Blood Weapon...because you messed up. If you die PLD has to turn ShO, costing some MP, throwing its damage roation off the road, reducing its Oath Gauge and killing its auto-attacks...because you messed up.

Those complains are becoming more and more silly...

Yeah I am aware that it wouldn't put us on par with dps damage wise. We're tanks were not supposed to be dealing as much damage as dps. I lived through the slaying meta in 3.0 before the .45/.45 vit/str nerf. I would fell cleave healers to death in Seal Rock. Good times but the aggro modifiers are somewhat concerning. SE did give melee dps a "quelling" as their cross class not to mention the burst some dps can do, ex SAM. It make stance dancing that much more difficult as the risk of losing hate becomes real. SE seems to really want to drive it home that when you choose a job be it tank, dps , healer that's all you'll be doing. Just wished they realized the difference between streamline and simplified. WAR was streamlined in 3.0 but simplified in 4.0.

Yeah I agree. They need to make the other finishers give 20 gauge to alleviate this boring rotation. I'm gonna hold out on WAR and see what SE says on the matter as they can always patch it. I'd hate to stop tanking but WAR was really the only tank I loved to play, aesthetic-wise and game play but I really hate being forced to spam our weakest damage combo for just 10 extra gauge and then simply spam FC. SAM is really starting to grow on me as it feels very much like WAR in 3.0 with how the combos synergy work so well together.

Now that Storm's Eye has the old Maim bonus, if you only spam Path, you'll lose a lot of damage. So you still rotate between two different combos most of the time, like you did in HW.

Yall do know that spamming storms path is suboptimal in the rotation right? You are supposed to weave in a butchers block combo in between storms eye combos so I usually go storm's eye->Path->BB->Path->Eye if you just do 3 paths then you get 10 gauge that is useless plus the butchers block combo does more damage. Before you guys start saying war rotation is "boring" please learn how to play it first.

If you do that, it seems to me that you'll lose Eye's buff for one or two GCD. Is the increased damage from BB makes up for that ?

Indeed, if you've seen my posts then you might have seen that the tank stance penalty is bullshit. Yoshida himself said that he wanted to make tanks and healers more fun. From all the complants to SCH losing AoE DPS, to WHM lilies(lol really? I bet it took whole 5 minutes to come up with that), DRK being less busy. Summoner even got nerfed with AoE and no longer having sustain(why have a tank pet anymore?). I love SB but the healer and tank balance has really been in the worst state its ever been.

so do i do butcher block for extra potency or storm eye for more fell cleaves ?? I can't even tank properly, i only do OT combo for higher dps and i have to do 2 full combos to get enough points to do fell cleave or decimate, unlike before (using infuriated out of fight) or using cooldowns like Vengeance Raw Intuition Berserk to increase my stacks fast and fell cleave or decimate o steel cyclone.

I noticed that everyone started complaining after Xeno posted his lvl 70 Warrior video, on my server people is having discussions in ralghr's reach reapeating Xeno's arguments word by word, and that makes me quite sad.
It is true, the penalty for switching stances sucks, it is also true that shake it off is absolutely and utter garbage. But the current state of warrior is not THAT bad.
I'm sick of that phrase "the planets have to line in order to do 6 fell cleaves" that everyone is repeating like a broken record. I find no difficulty doing 6 fell cleaves even after getting stuned sometimes, if you manage the cooldowns the right way you should be able to do all of the fell cleaves with 3 seconds left on internal release. I'm not sure about Onslaught yet, it costs beast gauge but I mostly use it in emergencies or as an extra way to hold aggro, I know is hella usefull when Susano pushes you for his line mechanic.

No, people complained before. About the same issues Xeno brought forward. He's just well known so once he said it it became more widespread. Despite you hearing about all these complaints, your post makes it seem you still don't understand them.

You mentioned the issues and then label them as not that bad. You also missed how WAR has absolutely NO utility now (so unless a warrior just plain tanks or does damage better than others, you'll NEVER be as viable) . You don't mention how the changes make the rotation flow like thick mollases.

Hell, you're sick of a phrase that no one uses.

If you had actually read this thread, you would have seen that most of the issues had already been brought up before Xeno posted his video.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I agree with all of the points in the OP. WAR just isn't as fun to play anymore.

I'm personally going to switch to PLD for the foreseeable future. The Stormblood paladin changes are much more fun.

I had issues in the beginning but Its been smooth sailing rn im sticking with warrior #neverchange #warriorlife ppl should wait till Omega drops b4 complaining thats when we will see differences that are hard impacting on our class. That is unless we get lucky and get minor changes then too.

remove rage cost on Onslought or make it cost MP/TP/biger CDs whatever but not rage..
remove stance dancing penalty on WAR/PLD
separate inner release from unchained
increase butcher block to 20 rage( gauge fill too slow as MT)

just that will make the game play so much better on warrior, we dont need more dps but flexibility, the job is too penalize to play this way it feels bad...everything is penalize on the poor war this cant go on like this no utility no dps no nothing...

The stance switches with penalty makes Warrior a lot harder to play, which is imo really fun. I really like that warrior is harder to play now ( Lets be honest, warrior was the most easiest class ( or equal to paladin ) to play in heavensward ). Also using the cd's is not trivial now. Looking at the gauge numbers and thinking about when not to use gauges to gain the best dps is also nice.

My only complaints are:

- stance dancing should only have 10x number.
- shake it off should get a rework
- onslaught should be 10 gauge or no cost
- overall potency should be increased ( not combo potency, but potency for using the gauge correctly, like fell cleave/onslaught/upheavel) to improve overall dps of warrior. ( high reward for doing great as warrior )

Also in my opinion warrior should have more dps than paladin and be at least equal to darkknight from the design of view. Drk/War are just too weak but Paladin is fine.

I agree that it makes WAR harder to play, but not in a way that feels rewarding. Some of my favorite fun tricks in Heavensward feel like they're almost mandatory now, and they're absurdly punishing to do. For example - if I were running low on TP during a pull and wanted to keep mobs on me I could always swap to deliverance, use equilibrium, and then go back into defiance as soon as the cooldown was up and keep using overpower. I can't tell you the number of times I've wanted to do this in the stormblood dungeons due to the loss of flash and being forced to use overpower constantly to generate aoe threat.

Now if I do that I quarter the gauge and lose access to pretty much all of my abilities. I'm glad you enjoy it, but I don't find it fun in the slightest.

Warrior isn't bad... it just feels like sqex forgot what defined the class: high hp to take hard hits and regaining hp through high dps. We're not supposed to be mitigation tanks. We're supposed to be masochists that just don't stop.

* Change stance dance cost to 30
* Reduce gauge cost of Decimate and Steel Cyclone to 30
* Replace Shake It Off with our own version of Bloodbath and call it something like "rally" or "war cry"
* Increase the Deliverance damage buff to 10%
* Reduce Onslaught timer or make it a GCD

Have you heard of this thing called Steel Cyclone? Because I don't think you would even come close to running out of TP if you actually started using it. You don't need Flash. 2-3 Overpowers is fine. The only time you should ever consider spamming Overpower is when there's a huge stack of monsters in front of you and you're in Berserk, and EVEN THEN it's not worth blowing all your TP on it. But for the average 2-3 monster encounters you see during dungeons? Yeah, Steel Cyclone is the way to go.

Yeah, about that. Does it get better later on as you level? Because I blew 3 Cycs on a pull and my husband the RDM still pulled mobs off me straight away- something that was inconceivable before. It feels like all I do is blow all my cooldowns to hold the mobs and then desperately try to build more Steel Cyclones for the next pull.

I tend to have some issues even with SC every now and then. Basically, try to spend Berserk very liberal, it should be up at every pull, and unchained at every other pull.

Additionally, ask your husband to use his enmity skills as well - especially RDM has a burst thats ungodly, and it seems like Square wants every role to manage enmity now.

I'd like to note that this can become an issue over an extended number of pulls if you chain pull the different packs. Neither PLD or DRK* have this issue - PLD can simply swap between Total Eclipse and Flash as your TP / MP run down, and DRK can use TP to generate MP with Syphon Strike*. Plus there was always Blood Price.

As WAR, you have Equilibrium and Steel Cyclone, but getting to use equilibrium is gated behind two stance changes unless you wish to remain in deliverance. This brings up the problem I mentioned in my previous post. Sure, you have infuriate but it has a cooldown and isn't always available.

* - This was true in Heavensward. I assume it's still possible in stormblood but I don't know for certain.

If you use more SCs you generate more aggro thus you need fewer overpower.
If you use more overpower you get enough aggro to switch to deliverance use equilibrium and back to defiance ( at the loss of quite some BG tho)

SC/IB before you swap. Or, if you start a pull using OP, you probably won't have any significant BG built up anyways.

It does. It's not so bad for me now that I have 300 ish ilvl. Also, aoe provoke makes it easier.

Try to make sure you renew storms eye buff at the end of one pull so you have it to start the next. And the mentioned usage of berserk, it's cd is short enough you can use it on almost every pull. Rotate your combo on targets, paying attention to see if the dps are attacking an enemy you aren't, while building beast gauge. I've also been rotating the slashing debuff on enemies so they take a bit more damage/build a bit more aggro as the fight drags on.

I've seen people on both sides of the fence about the biggest elephant in the room, which is swapping costing gauge. The thing people seem to fail to remember is that yes, Pld and Drk have to take a GCD to swap stances, but they have complete access to their toolkit regardless of stance, (Exception is stuff like blood weapon for drk, but that's a CD more than an ability). Warrior needs to stance swap to access various moves, so having them be penalized for utilizing the heightened skill ceiling of war is just silly.

Onslaught costing 20 and doing 100 seems balanced around the fact it's got half the CD of plunge. So in theory it's the same dps gain as using plunge, sometimes more, but the cost is silly. I don't think it should generate gauge but at 100 damage and 15cd it'd be just as good or slightly better than plunge. Which is why I'm more of the persuasion to make it 20 sec and keep potency but not cost gauge.

Zerk needs a buff cause it's kinda silly it's worse than Fight or Flight... And infuriate should be usable outside of combat but they can change the gauge where after 30 seconds the gauge drains at like 5 a second to prevent them from chain infuriating pre-boss pull to have war start at full gauge. Works thematically as well since being able to sit on gauge seems odd given Warrior's lore but lets them still be unaffected in combat or doing dungeons since pulls aren't 30 seconds apart.

Course the other thing is they probably don't want wars to be dancing in and out of dps stance which is why inner release and unchained share a CD as well as why it costs gauge to swap but like... That completely contradicts what we love about the class and why warrior players play warrior. WoW already pulled this shit with warrior before and it's why I quit the game. Don't undermine stance dancing, the core reason many people love warrior, for the sake of tank homogenization.

Regarding all of the complaints regarding stance swapping, I don\\'t think it\\'s THAT aweful. I got used to dumping all my rage before swapping so it\\'s not that big of an issue.

But with that said, it does make the warrior a little harder to play. It takes too long to build 50 rage if youre saving infuriate for your 6 cleave combo. A flat 20 rage cost is a good compromise. That way you could max rage again within 1 stormes eye combo and then do your fc combo.

Also, I\\'d suggest changing the infuriate trait to reduce infuriate by a flat 30 seconds. This would really make it easy and apparent to beginners that they should burn infuriate, berserk, inner beast, and upheaval as soon as possible as the timers will line up automatically.

Right now, as hard as I try, infuriate still has about 10 secs cooldown when inner release is off cooldown when I try to max dps.

Next, I\\\\'d drop the rage cost on onslaught. People can then choose to use it as free dps or save it in case of a knockback or the boss leaping away.

I'd be okay with Onslaught keeping the 20 BG cost, but drop the cooldown to 10s. If I want to burn my gauge ping ponging between 5 mobs, that should be on me. But, Onslaught has one of the highest threat multipliers of all tank skills so I can see why it costs something to use. That said... drop SC (and Decimate) cost to 30 and add a 5s timer.

Shake It Off really needs to be replaced with a Bloodbath equivalent.

Yes. Exactly. WAR is the "switch stances to achieve the desired result" class. You're being punished for using the core mechanic of the class as it's designed.

At the risk of sounding kinky, punishment IS part of the fun. If there was no cost at all to changing stances, it would be mindless. There would be no point to the stances at all.

But with proper "punishment" or cost, the stances take on greater meaning psychologically if that makes sense. BECAUSE there is a cost to taking a stance, there is a psychological commitment to that decision.

And when that decision, with its cost, yields an even greater reward... that is pleasure, that is bliss, that is fun.
