Didn't you learn it's locations already? It will not speed up lvl50, but will simplify low level live.

How do you know that the mini map will show locations where they appear and not active nodes?
"•[dev1282] Gathering points are now marked on the minimap." Doesn't address whether the point is active or not. It may be that it will only show active locations and abilities will be made obsolete, thus "dumbing down" the activity.
dont think of it as making it harder one certain crafts, the problem is actualy that mining itself has become somewhat devalued and this will help fix it.
ores are pretty much worthless now, and with them being gathered slower, they might be worth the time to do again as a form of profit.(cobalt is less then 1k each on besaid)
SE has already stated that they plan on changing gathering. They gave the example that 'some lumber might only be harvestable by a BTN with 300+ STR'. Telling someone 'Hey over here there might be a tree you can chop, still doesn't promise they will 1. be successful 2. get any items of value 3. attempt to even harvest the tree. or that 4. the node will be 'active' and available.
The markings on the map don't say 'Hey you! Come Chop me down baby! I'm full of Pine-y Goodness'. You still have to have the knowledge of where to farm the good stuff/mats you need (or at least the brainpower to find a resource site where you can find this information).
Lastly, while I don't feel it completely negates the current gatherer abilities, SE might be planning on rewriting them/changing them as well down the road.
... because they did not remove the abilities. They just revamped every class in the game and how they learn skills and what skills they learn. If you think they were going to make skills obsolete and still keep them in the game, then I'm afraid the odds are heavily against you.
I cannot say I am certain. I'm merely looking at the facts and making an educated prediction. Something any person claiming they will show active nodes only has not done so far.
I just want to point out that this is only the minimap, so if you are farther away from a node you can still make use of the searching abilities.
It only says minimap and not otherwise, but I guess we'll have to see. Enemy/NPC marker's dont appear on the main map.
I pleased to see this added. I don't see it as a problem at all. Currently all players can see where mobs are located, including the placement of a Notorious Monster. Letting gathering classes see on the map where the various nodes are located is, to me, very similar to making note of where mobs are on the map.
Just because a node appears on the map doesn't mean it has to always be active. Abilities can still be used to determine if an appropriate active node is in range of your character. Just seeing the node on the map doesn't tell you if the node is partially used up or not, or what the node may or may not contain. It just lets you know that it is a spawn point.
This is one of the changes I am very happy about in the upcoming patch.
This clutters up my minimap too much and i can't tell where my pt members are or enemy mobs compared to the harvesting dots. And I'm partially colorblind so coloring them don't help.
I am super pumped for this! Thanks SE!
Thankyou SE !!
I would suggest
- Making the icons slightly larger yellow dots than the "picture" icons.
- Only show those for the class you have equipped, IE only show Mining nodes when you have the mining class equipped.
- Only show nodes that you have recently scanned for.
I can.. definitely see the utility here, but I would really, really like the option to turn these things off as well.
The map is already starting to get a bit crowded in places as-is, and even that aside I can see it looking untidy and I'm not even completely sure that, on the occasions I want to play as a gatherer, I'd even want to use the things. And that's setting aside that unlike most of the other icons, these are only really useful if you're a Disciple of the Land.
I mean definitely don't remove them (unless they went so far as to make the gathering nodes move about and finding them a constant part of the class gameplay.. which I'd think rather nice, but eh), but.. surely it'd be nice to be able to turn them off.
Hell, while we're at it, why not make it so we can go through the legend and tell it what icons and labels we do and don't want on out maps, in general?
dont matter to me i already memorized the areas i gather.
Just makes it so lazy people can know where the nodes are.
Most people serious about gathering probably allready had there own maps made for the most part. Hopefully it doesn't just ping only the active nodes otherwise we may as well not even have harvesting skills related to find finding them.
I like how they added icons on the minimap for gathering spots. My question is, will they show up on the full-size map too...?
Also, I think it'd be nice to actually be able to draw things or write notes on our maps too, maybe to mark hidden underground paths, or good spots for exp parties, etc. That, and being able to show or hide various map markers like someone else suggested would be nice too, to avoid clutter.
What I'd like though is if they just changed it so gathering points could only be targeted by DoL classes. Gets annoying as I'm doing a leve as a combat class and I cycle through as I'm running just to spot a ??? mark and think it's a treasure chest. I'm not a DoL class, why do I need to know there's a gathering point to the left of me?
This is a welcome move.
I noticed the screenshot they provided shows only secondary gathering points (harvesting, quarrying, and spearfishing). And from experience there is almost always a logging point in that area (just northeast of Bentbranch), which is not shown. Maybe they only show secondary points, which would make sense since there is no ability to find them.
I wouldn't mind if they put the one primary gathering point you're currently searching for (with an ability) on the map, though - even the full map.
I hate this kind of thinking, not everyone wants to make custom made maps.
There is a large difference between being lazy and being user friendly, generally lazy players don't even gather anyway.
I'm guessing you are an ex FF11 player because only one would come out with something so obtuse.
Good move SE, i hate going in circles only to realize the damn node is inside the mountain/cave whatever you want to call it.
While you are at it though, why not allow us to place map markers!?
Oh, too much to ask?.... ok I can wait until 2.0 i guess.
You are correct. Only secondary points will be marked on the mini-map.
•[dev1282] Harvesting, quarrying, and spearfishing points are now marked on the minimap.
* There are no markers for mining, logging, and fishing points."
We still need the ability to mark our own maps.
