4.0 Job them Armor sets

Any decent shot of the AST set? I can't quite tell with the images posted here.

The HW (and also SB) aesthetic for SMN is some of my favorite armor in the game, tbh. Aesthetic is objective.

Agree with the general consensus that female MNK deserves the tattoo, too...

I really hope one day S.E. will use different outfits for male and female characters... Because I'm tired of having a girly BRD, a girly WHM and... Well... Almost a girly everything, with robes, long boots, long coats, princess sleeves, etc... Please hire US or EU designers if you're not able to design masculine outfits !

Thing about SCH is they're kind of the Velmas of FFXIV. Lore-wise, fashion isn't exactly one of their strengths, which belongs to their intellect and tact. They got to be a bookworm with AF1, and a feathery Mr. Peanut with AF2. At least this set is a little better in terms of aesthetics when compared to their previous sets.

When getting into SCH lore and the City of Nym, scholars seem to have functioned very much like an elite military unit. The AF1 coat is also a custom military shade of green, and has medals of recognition on it. I wish they would stick with this military themed look, and they've kind of recaptured it with this new set.

But ENOUGH with deliberately making they look bad. Give them something like this:

The only good looking armor set is the one for the class I'll never play, damn you WHM :c

I like them in general.

Don't have any strong feelings towards BLM or DRG. BLM looks much nicer than its previous ones at least, while DRG seems a logical evolution; not entirely sure if I consider that good or bad though.
SCH I don't have any interest in. SMN looks pretty similar to its 3.0 AF Set, which I did like, but something a bit different might've been better?
DRK looks pretty cool, not sure if I like it more than the Chaos set though. PLD has a simple aesthetic, but looks loaded with detail, and looks very stylish overall. WAR is definitely my favorite of the Tanks though. The brief glimpse we get of it looks really, really cool.
AST and WHM both look pretty, with AST having a less ostentatious design compared to 3.0, while continuing its kind of "Dancer" aesthetic, which I really like.
MNK doesn't do much for me, though I await to see it on a female avatar, while NIN I'm really enjoying the look of.
BRD looks very stylish as well it should, while MCH looks... really bland imo. Worst of the bunch.
RDM and SAM both look suitably nice for their first outings.

MNK disappoints me. The mages look forgettable and the MCH one looks like ugly dungeon gear. Can't good a good look at the DRK gear but it looks like the Lore gear dyed black with added spikes for some reason. DRG looks extra horny for w/e reason. PLD and RDM are the only ones I'm looking forward to. I'm sicking of seeing the things I like the most on cat boys. <_<

Ast looks like something straight out of FFXII

I do not like how the Samurai gear looks on me at all. A number of people can sport it nicely, but I cannot.

I feel like the BLM set is the closest I'll ever get to becoming Vivi. I don't mind most of the sets. I really don't care for the healing ones though.

I'm not particularly taken with the new armours. I like the monk one well enough but sad about the lack of tattoos on the female version :(
I really don't like the new WHM one, but I really liked the WHM for both ARR and HW so maybe that places me in the minority? I tend to prefer practical to princess.

to judge some of them i have to see those on male/non-lala chars.

drk and pld look nice (except the weapons, tha pld shield...), mnk is also nice, sam and rdm as they have no previous sets. nin could be good. (didn't they say yugiri is wearing nin af? maybe she is gonna switch to the new one)

sch, smn (this one especially), whm, war seem to similar to what they already have. blm too, but imo still better (3.0 af was terrible)

drg and brd are ok. mch is just random sky pirate gear.

ast kinda stands out as it looks really different this time

I think its because the aethetics they are going for become "stretched out" on the taller races. And ironically those jobs are from primarily Lalafellian nations, Mhach and Nym. I can't say I was "crazy" about either set, but they look decent on me, but when i saw it on other races it was too much. I actually combined the two sets, body from the first(2nd one) and the culottes from the second and with a decent pair of gloves and shoes, well lets just say I make a pretty hot Velma, lol.

As a SMN main I am just grateful that we have enough good glamour to use...really will we be only wearing pants in 5.x? x) I mean it feels like we get less and less clothes. Also a big minus for not having the tattoo on the female monk set..why SE?

It's in the lore book itself, but it is also stated and implied subtly in the game prior to the lore books release. The Mhachi raid gives more details though. I can look for the actual page and quotes if you like but if you have the book just read the entries on Mhach and Ul'dah, and Nym and Limsa, you'll see. Looking at Mhach proper, all we know is that the lalafellin descendants founded Belah'dia. Within Mhach however we only find Hyur statues and mentions of a Voidmage Cessair who also happens to be Hyur. And we learn from the RDM entry that Ala Mhigo was co-founded by the descendants of mhach. At the calamity there could have been a split in Mhachi hyur/lala population with the highlanders drawing to gyr abania and the Lalafells going south.

Pants and covered shoulders. Healers still need to fit the healin look. I think it looks good for what is a hard role to make gear that fits men

I'm not saying that these cities only had Lalafells just that they were predominantly Lalafellian. And as you indicated with Cessair, the Cities can show reverence or have high officials not of the "main" race. Gridania is "supposedly" Elezen in nature, but the mai focus is on the Padjal/Hyurs, Ishgard worships Halone the Fury who is depicted as a Hyur, the Little Ladies Day event was created and celebrates a Hyur family that ruled Ul'dah once... hmmm, I'm noticing a patern, lol. But regardless of anything else, the the principle figures in the SCH and BLM jobs are Lalafells; Shatotto the creator, and Surito Kurito a high ranking official, possibly the creator but I found no sources.

I like them better than the 3.0 sets, though I'm slightly disappointed that they so hard to stick to things obviously inspired by the original sets. It's going to get increasingly dull as the game progresses if they don't branch out.

I am pretty pumped that we get them right at 70 again. I missed that in HW.

Elezen/Hyur in nature, not only Elezen. Gridania was founded by the citizen of Gelmorra, after they left Gelmorra. And in Gelmorra lived Elezen and Hyurs together.
Padjals are Hyurs, who got choosen by the Elementals. No Padjal was born as a Padjal.

This is a prime example how they bothered to make an effort to make a somewhat different looking gear set with the same theme for each gender, so I'm
assuming that at least some classes like BRD and AST could have a similar faith with the other gender having a somewhat significant difference in design.
And so far, we have only seen fem BRD AF gear and male AST AF gear.

I have to agree. The outfit does look better on Lalas, and perhaps any who are short in stature as it looks pretty good on Surito Carito as well, who coincidently was also a Lala before turning into a Tonberry. I think it will be the same with this AF3 as well. The first time I saw the concept art, it was pictured on a Lala, and when compared to the midlander in the recent trailer, the popoto pulls it off far better. ;)

Hoping to get something similar to the coat I posted in a future patch or expansion.

I want to see Summoner on a taller race...cant really tell with it on a taru...er, lalafell :P boo

Either way, from what I CAN see of it from the benchmark and all, I'm kinda disappointed. AST's original AF gear was sp pretty I had really high standards. D:

the tank gear all looks good. drg gear is something i would wear.

don't like the samurai gear. i'll probably end up wearing something different.

last one at the bottom, male aura is wearing the AST AF.

As someone who mains WHM and SMN, I'm very happy, and also relieved that both WHM and PLD have shed their respective nun/ walking-fortress armour themes. I like most of them tbh, it's going to be hard choosing!
