Fans have been asking for new character customization forever. It is indeed a waste that they haven't planned to add at least one improvement. They also refuse to add a new race this time around, so you'd think they'd put those resources into making character customization better.

Like Lords of Verminion or Diadem 1.0? That wasn't a smart decision from them, since fantasias are the most bought item from the mog store but SE has never been one of the most smart companies when talking about priorities.

But seriously, I can appreciate people being frustrated. Despite stellar aesthetics, FFXIV has a shallow CC. Considering the sheer amount of glamour focus this community has, it's not surprising many people put greater emphasis on stuff like this.

This is the kind of response that lets them get away with the answers they do. "Can't do X because of server limitations" and "lol stability!!!!!!" will continue to be a trend until this game eventually dies. I kinda' care where my sub money goes and what it's used for, and if they continually use these reasons (hint: they've been doing it since 2013), and people just give up like this, it will never end. People really should demand more from SE, a Triple A game company with more than enough money to get better servers and provide better quality updates than just a predictable patch cycle with crap that people will get bored of a week after it's out and let their sub lapse. Heavensward 2.0, here we come.

Yeah, that's a fair point. And I'd be lying if I said that I wouldn't spend a fantasia to mess around with new options were they added. Heck I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed at the opportunity to do so being outright shut down.

I just think it's a tad excessive how much people are focusing on what we aren't getting, rather than showing interest in what we are. Though that's hardly uncommon behavior in general.
Also lots of people seem to be using the mentality of "Well we aren't getting so and so, so why aren't they giving us this and that instead?!"; a fallacy based in the fact that we don't really know the specifics of how SE manages its resources. And it's unlikely that they'll become so transparent as to share with us these fine details.
Personally wouldn't want them to anyway. Would take away all the surprises in everything.

You do realize that there are a lot of people buying several fantasias per month, right?
Adding more customization would give players even more incentives to buy them and that means more $$$ €€€ for SE.

If they don't have the competence/time/man power etc to add more sliders then whatever. I think most of us can deal with that. However! Are they seriously not going to give us more options when it comes to things like eye shape, noses or mouths? Nothing? Not only does it severely disappoint me, I find it baffling that they're so dismissive and chill about keeping such a poor character creation in a modern MMO. :(

When I had modded my skyrim to the point I could shape and resize each of my earlobes separately with a slider, I just got lost in the options and never actually got to play the game because just making the character "perfect" would take up all my time.
And similar happens in most modern MMOs that throw sliders and stuff at you. I have 40 hours playtime in perfect world and I don't even know what the starter zone looks like because I never got that far >_>

Here I just live with imperfections because I can't change them anyway. The only thing I'm regularly in danger of changing is my skin or eye color, but for just one shade change, that's just a taaaad too much money.

What are we getting really though? The little information we have is not that amazing compared to what the did for Heavensward. They can't tell us anything about battle changes except we are moving some jobs around and combining some. A serve up grade and bigger invetory. This was needed two years ago when Heavensward came out. We are getting more zones. Well we know they will most likely be empty in the first few months. A 24 man dungeon and trials. We always get this. Two new jobs. Both are DPS because they don't know what to do with healers or tanks. Heck we have a new housing ward we can't touch when the expansion drop, even though we were suppose to get one in Heavenward. People are not just unhappy about what we are not getting, people are not thrilled about the lackluster stuff we are getting. Even SE knows they are not delivering for this expansion, why do you think it took them 3 fanfest to give this little information. They could have said some this in the beginning but no they waited until the last fan fest to say only 2 jobs, no character customizations, no you can't buy houses at release. We could have gotten the whole trailer at the earlier fan fest because it had nothing to do with the story. They could have released Samurai first and Red Mage second. They didn't because they used it make people excited. They made it seem like they had all this hidden information. That was all a marketing ploy. Now things might change when we get more information but compared to the Heavensward fan fest things are lacking this time around. They set bar high and now they don't appear to be doing the same. The main people who are excited are ones getting their dream job. That is understandable because they have been waiting for them. I'm only looking forward to the story at this point. I hope my feelings for the game changes but I'm not excited.

I wonder what % of the player base is that fickle that they have to change that often. I love character creating, I have a ton of alts, but over all the only thing that I feel the need to change occasionally is hair and make up.
I would very much like more face paint slots BUT in no way do I think that the character creation should over shadow the actual content of the game.
Granted, the info we've gotten on other new stuff has been a little skimpy. The world seems super expansive, I hope the battle content will be as meaty.

This. This person understands what is going on. Well said. They are really going to see sub numbers suffer in this upcoming expansion unless Square decides to stop pocketing our money and give Yoshi the staff and servers he needs to make this game great to make it grow. Hearing all these 'no' answers at Live Letter and seeing what little stuff we are getting isn't doing much for my hope levels.

You're deliberately underplaying what in fact looks to be a massive amount of content to better fit your belief that not having been shown everything immediately means that there's nothing to be shown.

@RukiaFae I couldn't agree more with what you said. It was underwhelming. They raised the bar and now they passed underneath it. I'm looking forward on exploring the new areas and story but beside that I saw nothing so much exciting. New areas/dungeons and jobs are to be expected. And even for the jobs we got less this time and no healer or tank. I'm also afraid that the new areas won't be as large as they seem on the map. They already said 50% will be in Ala Mhigo and 50% in Othard. I suspect the new maps will be HW sized at best I hope I'm wrong though.

It would have been so nice to at least get more face options, some new tails and ears and maybe more tattoos for the whole body. They did not even need to make everything a slider..but if the only thing that we will get is new hair..well thats imo really lazy. (Seeing how they already said that most will stay the same and in other parts we will get less than HW..) Also lets not forget that glamour is really important for a lot of people and sometimes its called the "true" endgame. Having more options for the looks of your character would really be quite the improvement..its kinda sad seeing so many clones running around.

Dear SE after all these cash shop sales..the big amount of fantasia some people buy and on top of that the monthly subscription..its time to get a bigger budget and put it back into the game. Landscapes might look beautiful but they wont keep the people playing this game..and since HW already had mixed reactions and quite some people were bored really fast you really need to have some good end game waiting in SB because right now, I feel like this could go even worse then HW..(Which I dont hope..just to be clear)

What? The amount of backend server stuff they are doing for this expansion is crazy. More Inventory and armoury space, double the hosing space, another housing district which you can transfer stuff over too. Adding cross server party finder and then planning on expanding it to friends list, linkshells and free companies.

They've even offered explanations this time as to why they are doing it, what limitations there and all people scream is wah wah wah more more more. I didn't get what I want. Give it to me.

Since they had more budget for this expansion, the first thing you would think is that the expansion would introduce more features than the old one.

In one of the Las Vegas Live Letters it was said the Budget would be "Triple" of the Budget that was used for Heavensward.
So yes, one would assume Bloodstorm would have tons of Content. We can only assume though...

In the end maybe we have tons of Dungeons for the Main Story compared to Heavensward, more polished opened Zones that are not empty like Heavensward.

Nobody knows, only Yoshi and the FFXIV Team does and when time passes by they reveal some stuff, hopefully good stuff...

Its not about wanting more all the time. It is just... I dont know. They tell you "revamp battle system" and you think we might get rid of the gcd. And in the end its just little adjustments in cross skills and better UI for certain buffs. Thats not a revamp.

Then again, you dont want to look like 1000 other characters, cause we only have 4-5 presets of faces (for example). If they cant give sliders, give us more presets atleast. Or different ear shapes for miqotes, horns for au ra, beards for roe's...

As a veteran myself now since 2.X times and especially when you play FFXIV game consistently (without unsubscribing), you notice these things very often. And it is pretty much to say that they have to filter good feedback from bad. Someone who just drops in for few months will enjoy for sure what he gets. But someone who plays all along, will want more. And if SE doesnt want to lose their permanent subscibers, then yea.. better listen to the favors and wishes of your players.

Good stuff indeed. I just expected more features and not just QoL which are welcome don't get me wrong but still he said they are looking on how and if they will allow more gardening items and no more char customization options because it needs more data. So that to me spells they didn't really solve the server issues. Seems like a minor upgrade to only allow the extra QoL changes. Feature wise you get nothing really new. And no word about adding extra plots on the current housing areas. Adding a new one won't solve the issue that people after these years can't even buy a house despite having the money.
What exactly did we get? New areas, story and 2 new jobs. Good but not good enough for an expansion that supposed to be better in quality budget and size. HW seems that brought more features to the table. And we still don't know how large those ares will be. Just because we get a new continent on map it doesn't mean the areas will be so expansive.

Why call them out in the first place though? The whole issue was they removed the coil difficulty in alexander and made 2 extremes, super easy and super hard. The people who were content with "normal" difficulty got screwed over and voiced there concern for the new tiers. I dont see that as an issue but a major conern. They didnt think about the middle ground and should have had 3 modes, story, normal (aka coil before echo) and savage. Yoshi and team are very wrong with the calling out here.

He wasn't wrong for calling it out though, people wanted harder content then we got Alexander Gordias, that middle ground you're talking about is called extreme primals, having multiple difficulties is just silly. Normal and Savage are fine.

Its not just extreme primals, and its also not normal mode its story mode lets not make it out to be something that requires effort at all. Having 2 extremes isnt a smart or viable option. Look at how many people stopped raiding because of it. Majority of raiders didnt have issues with Coil, yes people wanted a more difficult tier and we got that with Alex but that left nothing for the mid range player and thats why a lot of people had issues with the set up.

There were more voices calling for harder content in 2.5 than those who actually cleared Gordias, so it's clearly a problem of many people not knowing what they were asking for.

We all want harder content! In some way. The issue is you cant expect people to be happy when difficulty is taken away for an easier version and then make an even harder version, leaving nothing in the middle. There was no reason for a story mode. They should have kept normal mode and had savage mode, echo and other changes come in time and that makes things easier. Or as ive said they should have thought about what the impact would be and had 3 modes and story mode only being for the story and no drops.

Not everyone wants harder content because either they can't handle it or they're just casual players.
Of course people aren't going to be satisfied with the difficulty because half of the players says it's too hard while the other half says it's too easy. The dev team makes the difficulty based on OUR feedbacks. No wonder Yoshi-P said in the Q&A he trusts no one because people can't make up their minds XD

All Im saying is just having 2 extremes does nothing and adds nothing to the game. They should have left it with normal mode(which almost everyone was able to handle and were content with) and added a savage mode, then added a story mode later on. You cant cater to every single type of player which they are trying to do and we can see that in every content they introduce to the game.

I rather like the system we have now to be honest.

There was no overwhelming cry for Gordias-lvl content like SE would have you think.

What you can tell happened was that the devs got salty about how fast Final Coil got cleared and instead of looking at the bigger picture (i.e. how long it took the rest of the raiding population to clear it), went and made a badly tuned raid just to try and keep the world-first groups as occupied as possible. Now with Creator they took the view that while the world first types will blaze through their content quickly, the rest of the raiding population won't be as fast, plus the reduced difficulty will draw more people into trying the content so the raids still gets some mileage. With that said, I see no reason why they shouldn't add another raid on top. Make it like Savage Coil with titles and such, but with its own separate lockout.

By now people should realize that the no Butt Slider was never PS3 limitations but just the developers choosing not to add it in. We could have gotten butt slidders in 2.0 or 3.0 with PS3 support as it would be similar to Boob sliders but for the Butt.

As of now it seems the no butt slider is just a standard they have for the game now so outfit development doesn't have to strain too much on different butt sizes and possible clipping issues.
