Before this goes further: you do know about PvP actions, right? The ones you only get in PvP? Purify is one of those.

Yes it would not let me use it.
today in feast it worked, but the time I am talking about didn't. Who knows what happened then, it could been latency issues with stun/ sleep and it just appeared i couldn't do anything from a lag spike.
Speaking of, why is the latency issues so bad?
As a Bard I do pretty well in Feast, not so much in Shatter because of all the lag going on.
Fyi holmgang doesn't prevent you from casting. All it does is preventing you from moving or turning, which shouldn't affect a healer at all.
Well played, a bard is Destruction in PvP even outside the Burst.
K, with someone I met from posting here to talk to me in game, I been more careful with purify since we where both shocked you can target other people with it. After making a real effort to make sure we target ourselves (I will be making a macro and have 2 purify buttons since the game lag sometimes makes it hard to target yourself and hit purify quickly enough) we saw holmgang d was not a death trap. SE really needs more information out there like the ingame answers things to explain all the differences in pvp vs pve.
basically the problem with being a healer is you usually have other people targeted and the person I spoke in game said lots of healers think purify is bugged because it never works on them. So if you are trying to hit your panic button quickly as a healer, I hope you can see why healers would often have that mistaken view.
If I recall, having no one targeted will default Purify to yourself if used. So if you click targets like I do and need to clutch Purify out of an angry mob, just click a wall or a bad guy and you'll Purify yourself by default when you hit the button.
Have melee a Cast time for their skills?
Also there's a Damage penalty for being too far, you need to stay in 15y to do full damage as BRD o MCH.
Also even if being "far" from your target can help you to be "safe" your target can los you a lot better than a melee that anyway will stick with your butt.
I'm most of all talking about Feast, in frontline that distance can help you a far more (In my opinion)
Btw, for the OP, BRD burst is very predictable, a BRD will burst you when he have also the other buffs up, so as healer you should look at what is he doing, and when he is going to burst you have to be fast to negate it in any of the way that the other guys sugggested you.
Barrage last 9-10 sec, your sleep or bind 8 second for example, aside of his burst most of BRDs are not so painful (for example, me).
In frontline unfortunately is harder to track what a random BRD is doing, but if you see one of them running to you and pop those buff up be ready to react,
when you will get 3 Empyreal Arrow dodged during Attunement you will feel happy, trust me xD
WM and GB both remove the damage penalty. When it is in effect tho, like in lv50 frontlines, dmg is actually reduced as much at close(melee) range as it is from being very far away. Melee also have a slight natural resistance to physical damage
Why are you leaving the bard fully buffed unattended ? You deserve to die if that's the case.
Bard burst is by far the easiest to stop in the game. Drk can stop any bard burst and let them hit like wet noodles the entire fight. Any tank can stop it. Any healer can virus/disable. Anyone can line of site barrage. And purify before sidewinder.
:/
MCH can do this too, it's not really OP because they have to burn all their CDs at once to pull this off. So you can only do it once every 3 mins because of raging strikes. So as a healer you've just gotta know it's coming and be prepared. You have oGCDs of your own to counter it, like benediction, attunement and sacred prism. If you don't have anything up to protect yourself, well that's just your bad planning.
