Please, no more Hildibrand in 4.0

Dear Square enix, i hate your comic relief quests so please change them on my whim.

All good things must come to an end. Hildi has been subpar from what I hear throughout Heavensward, though apparently the 3.4 iteration was much improved. If the devs either have no more ideas or prefer to dedicate their time elsewhere, it's better to conclude Hili than drag him out further to the point his story turns into a boring mess. It's the same problem TV shows and movie trilogies have. They never know when to stop on a high note.

yeah i love the hildy quests and have done all from ARR up until 3.4 and i can attest to the 3.x hildy series being pale (and feeling shorter) in comparison to the ARR ones and it also lacks those comedic trials we had in ARR.

I never really was a fan of Hildi, so I'll toss a like OP's way.

It's nice that FFXIV has a comedic quest line and such, but wouldn't you prefer SE to make comedic quests with a completely new character unrelated to the Manderville's?

As someone who has loved Hildibrand quests in 2.0, I admit that his quests were a bit dull in the beginning of 3.0.
However the quests involving Gigi and the elders have restored my faith again.

So Hildibrand with the Hildibrand? People would just scream to bring Hidly back if he wasn't the main focus of the slapstick.

A new character can bring their own form of comedy.

It's a shame you don't enjoy him OP, my SO really dislikes him too.
But I for one enjoy the comic relief for the most part, they also learned to not link fights required for trials etc to him a while ago so you can just ignore these quests if you like.

For what it's worth, at the time you had to have done all the Trials to do the roulette, so Hildibrand was a requirement.

Hildibrand made me cringe. It took me a long time to unlock those trials because I just... hated doing the quests. Ugh.

That said I don't really care whether he's in the game or not, so long as there's an alternative sidequest for people who think Hildy is kinda... bleugh. 3.x got it right with the Scholasticate sidequests being available as well, and I was quite upset when a couple of patches didn't have anything for the scholasticate but has more "hildy getting thrown around by his buff dad with no clothes on and landing upside down in the snow".

Basically it's my opinion that since people like that stuff, yeah it should be available, but there should also be something else for people who don't like it.
I'd do more hildibrand for Greg though. Greg makes it all worth it.

Well, it's optional. Unlike story quests, you DON'T have to play through Hildibrand's story to enjoy the game. And they are there mostly for the story as they don't unlock content or gear. So why complain about something that you don't have to go through? Remember that we also pay to play and if a part of the players want more Hildibrand, Square Enix will give us more Hildibrand.

Well as I said in my earlier post Hildibrand was originally not going to be in 3.X but the Scholasticate was going to be the "Hildibrand" of 3.X covering a episode per patch. However, the direction they planned for Scholasticate did not provide what people wanted from a side-story for Inspector Briardein due to how it just followed up on the bitter politics of ishgard and sad emo moments we already had in 3.0 and was going to be bombarded with more in 3.X.

3.X Hildibrand Story could be considered a Filler Arc as the original Season 2 was originally going to be released in 4.X thus why the storyline for 3.X Hilibrand storyline felt rushed and lack of proper build up becuase it is rushed into production as they had to scramble to get 3.X Hildibrand Storyline together at the last minute to provide that light hearted comedy story people just wanted after the feel train of all 3.0 contents and future 3.x content.

If Scholasticate had been successful on the go then we could have had episodes per patch covering the Ishgardian system explaining and showing the function of their nobility and commoner life while showing the stuggle between Commoners and Nobles plus more emo moments of "boo hoo" "I am a commoner and my life is horrible" and Noble going "Hahaha I am rich *sip fine wine*" and "filthy peasants *kick commoner*" moments. However, it did not swing that way and developers had to hold back Scholsticate Storyline and shorten it so they had room for the rush introduction of Hildibrand in 3.X

I feel like there was a lot of missed potential in the Scholasticate quest to really to get to know Ishgard beyond the scope of the Dragonsong War but the characters just weren't as compelling as Hildibrand's and I personally found the "high school drama" aspect completely unappealing. I find it sad because I actually like Briardien. I wish they had just extended the post moogle series into Ishgard and done completely episodic stories about side characters like Lucia, Honoroit or Handeloup (also it would have been an opportunity to get rid of that wall of text the post moogle sprouts at you every time you go to check your mail). I do miss the Hildibrand trials and wish if they were going to remove them completely that we had more solo instance fights instead. I hope the Hildibrand series continues into 4.0, but I also hope we get a side story quest series unique to Ala Mhigo as well.

Hildi was best in 1.0, 2.0 he was ok and the 3.0 storyline hasn't been that great. Hopefully they will restore him in 4.0!

Frankly Godbert could have his own line too, like him much more than Hildy at this point lol

"Don't like it, don't do it" isn't much of an argument when there aren't alternatives. The devs are spending a lot of time and effort on the Hildebrand quests that they could be spending working on something that people who don't like Hildebrand would enjoy.

That said, it's pretty clear that Hildebrand haters are in the minority and his slide whistle, stretchy faced antics are here to stay.

I don't like PvP, but I never asked PvP to be removed though? Can't you just get over it?

So does PvP, but despite my personal lack of interest I won't ask for that to be removed because I know that part of the community enjoys PvP and because I understand that it's important to spread attention to a variety of player's interest and not just my own.

I don't enjoy the Hildi quests, but Idc if they add more or not. There are a lot of people who like them, so I don't see any reason why SE wouldn't continue his story.

Nah, more Hildibrand in 4.0. Though only if they don't half-ass it like in 3.0. I don't even mind if they just do him maybe 3 out of 5 patches of the cycle to have time to develop the story. But having some sort of comic relief, light-hearted stories every now and again is a nice change of pace from being IT'S SUPER CEREAL WORLD IS ENDING ERMERGRHD 24-7.

I just want the same amount of production from the 2.x season to return, the episodic endings etc. If it means that Hildi will have to be every other patch then so be it, only 2 quest and no full questlines with a possible trial fight just feels lackluster..

I know unpopular opinion but each expansion set should have their own side story - I was really looking forward to the Scholasticate Questlines but it got so much delayed probably because people were begging for Hildi instead that I totally forgot about it (and I've been looking forward to it so much!). The result are 2 lackluster quest-sets instead of one good one. If I could vote for a returning sidequest to be in 4.0 it'd be the moogle quests giving backstory stories again.

Why not? Always with the same thing. "Because I don't like, it shoulndn't be in the game". Well, then, I like it, should continue in the game. If someone don't like it, then don't do it. You're not obligued to do it.

And it is not oversatured. You get 2 quest per patch. And you can do it in like 20 minutes. Is not like it is present all the time. So it is good amount to not become annoying.

The scholasticate was exciting at first cause it was fresh. I certainly looked forward to it. Then people cried for Hildi and it seems even the devs forgot about the Scholaticate.

I love Hidy because SE has said several times he is canon, and here on Balmung there are a small minority that hold the lore so tight, his exploits drive them up the wall as it challenges their view of lore and ruins their immersion. There was even a thread on another site that was basically this minority losing their minds over him not to long after SE said he was canon. I get a giggle out of people getting worked up like its real life over a videogame.


I would like to see Greg again though, if only once as a cameo.

in reaction to this thread they should make Hildy a monthly episodic quest =D

Seriously? Hildibrand is purely for fun/shits and giggles. He's still around because the vast majority of people enjoy him and the zany stories that come with him. I think it's a great comedic releif from the typically very serious MSQ. Let people have their fun. >> If you don't like it, ignore it/don't do it. It's a side story quest for a reason.
