This raid might introduce Viera to FFXIV, this way they can establish the race in FFXIV and make the race being playable in 5.0 lorewise very logical.

And then the 'gimme Viera' whiners poured in in droves...
Think I'll be avoiding this one.
what if we came from ivalice....
So true...
Really, a little reality check is needed here - SE have already stated in the past that 1), Ivalice and Hydaelyn are not the same worlds, they are completely separate worlds in different universes, and 2) viera are not going to be added to the game (because Yoshi considers them to be too similar to the miqo'te, as being 'humans with animal parts'), nor is there even going to be any new player race added in Stormblood.
The 'return to Ivalice' thing is simply a clever move to build hype and excitement... but it is almost guaranteed to be just like the Crystal Tower and just a single dungeon from an Ivalice game that has been slightly tweaked to be 'natively Hydaelyn' and not the actual Ivalice location (like how the Crystal Tower was not FFIII's actual one but an Allagan structure). Personally I expect it to be something like Midlight's Deep (from FF Tactics) or the Great Crystal (from FFXII). Still, I'm intrigued. :)
I agree with you on the reusing models as every other FF prior atleast updates them for a new universe but I think 3 expansions in at this point (if you count ARR as one) should have gotten the message across that this game is a fan service theme park MMO for people familiar with the series. It's why I never recommend this game as a good starting point into the series.
And even for people new to the series through this game it could just be a cool dungeon/raid/boss whatever to them and they'd be none the wiser.
May be the next raid is Final Fantasy Tactics Online....we'll fight in a grid map and it's turn based.
It's going to be exactly like Crystal Tower. The lore of it won't extend beyond itself into the rest of the game, at least not nearly enough to spawn an entire playable race out of it. At the most you might get a brief cameo of a Viera in the quests surrounding it (but I doubt it).
As far as the raid itself goes, I'm really not enthused. To me, FFXII was just a really bad game. There was nothing good about it. From the summons being reduced to overgrown airships to the main character that wasn't the main character. And don't even get me started about the battle system. I couldn't even get into the lore virtually at all. I played through once for the story and took it back to the store. The only cool thing I saw were a couple T-Rexes out in the fields. I don't want any of that in here.
I'm more interested in the serious endgame raid for Stormblood, since they've been throwing subtle hints at Omega Weapon here and there in the MSQ and in the underlying quest lore for the ARR PvP zones.
It's Matsuno enough said
Why viera when we have glorious bangaa? Woman with bunny ears is soo mainstream.
Would expect to see a bunch of npc ff12 races but I don't think they would be playable.
They probably want something most of their players will actually play.
That said, I am fine with some non-Neko races, perhaps in the form of the Bangaa or Nu Mou, or an avian styled race. But I still would love to see Viera in. SE has plans to take the game at least up to 6.0, implying another 2 expansions at a minimum in the works, so there will be ample opportunity for it. They have already mooted Viera designs and opinions on their suitability can change.
I agree with those in the thread saying people shouldn't read too much into the name. As with most things in FFXIV drawing on other FFs, they will draw on elements of the namesake but won't simply rip it out of the other game's world to add it into FFXIV in toto; it'll be FFXIV's version of it.
eww screw female, i want the big package for male too !
I wouldn't object to that. ;)
Well, that was going to be the fate of catgirls, but sounder minds prevailed... and besides, the playerbase statistics don't even reflect that this is what most players are after.
Point is, it has to be something they predict players will actually want to play. As GW2 and WOW have both discovered, you cannot force players to like a race, but still have to put as much ongoing design effort into them once they're implemented. Good luck getting people into playing the Ixal etc. with the fugly designs they currently have. Not being neko or human isn't enough of an angle, in and of itself, to be enticing. It's possible they could get the Bangaa just right, but I think they have higher chances of doing it with the Nu Mou.
Personally, I'd like to see the Garif at some point.
I'd rather see the lore and customisation options for the existing playable races expanded instead of seeing a new playable race added to the game. As for Viera? It's a shame that people are focusing upon them of all things when it comes to Ivalice - the charm of the setting itself is how in-depth and morally grey the lore in the 'Ivalice' games is. Vagrant Story, FFXII and Final Fantasy Tactics remain three of my favourite games to this very day - and it is in no way related to Viera having been a token 'cute/hot race'.
This is kinda hinting that FFXII might be out around that time too so we might even get a seasonal event thingy? Like the lighting event?
I'm just happy Matsuno is going for it.
Viera are just the new meme race at this point and they're not even playable
Maybe people new to Final Fantasy through XIV should play XII or Tactics on the side just to see how much more there is to Ivalice than just bunny girls, they're not even that big of a deal in their own game either.
Can you imagine each new raid coming and the threads that follow?
4.1 - Where's the Viera?
4.3 - Are Viera coming?
4.5 - When are we going to see Viera?
I just hope its more like 2.0 and less like 3.0
It's pretty much why I responded the way I did on the JPN Fan Fest thread... oh, I was even responding to you back there, hahah. Ivalice certainly is an interesting world and I'm curious to see how FFXIV will treat it (a reference like Crystal Tower? Grimoire dimension?), but we know that there will be more "Viera plz? threads in the future. Be they necro'd threads or completely new... with the same people (myself included) going back and forth.
I'm thinking they should just show one NPC Viera in a raid just to calm them down, throw them a bone as they say...or maybe it'll fan the flames and just make people ask even more. You can't win, I don't want the image of Viera to be painted as waifubait.
And yes I will still be playing FFXI in 2017 :p
cause I only started it last year, so much content!
Maybe something no one really knows/remembers all too well (despite the fact one of them was a main character in FFTA2). The Rev or Revgaji.
If you are "disappointed" by lack of Viera now, then that is entitlement (not attacking, just stating what it is), because the dev team have made it clear that Viera is not coming, and that it never was coming (since Au'ra was released), you are disappointed in Yoshi P for your own wishes, rather than miscommunication, which is not ok. If they put Viera in the 24man raid, that is miscommunication about the status of a popular request, which as I said, is a bad idea
I don't agree there, because by that logic, an NPC with a more sizeable trunk would be a miscommunication about the status of a butt slider as well and Hilda was a miscommunication about the status of hybrids with Alphinaud's carbuncles being a miscommunication on the status of Egi glamours. Were they? No. And if people took it that way, that's their own fault.
Now I'm worried they'll add them simply to satisfy players... :(
Don't worry. One of the diehards posted a poll that backfired on them. Expanded creation dominated the poll.
One thing that comes to mind when it comes to Ivalice now is the original Tactics, there was no Viera, Banga or anything of that sort. Unless their were pictures to hint at it, could also be the Ivalice of Vagrant Story, though seeing the main picture I think less so of this.
Gimme dem Viera with tall women with shapely, curvaceous Amazon curves, and smol adorably moe trap males! Preferably Arctic/Desert varieties rather than the forest bunny iteration though.
We already have giant men/tiny women, give us tiny trap boys/Giant Amazon women!
Some players will be disappointed, others will be happy. I know I'd be happy if they don't get implemented (also, if you're going to make a race that is from the Ivalice playable, then you will need to make the rest of the Ivalice races playable so that everyone is happy. That's how it should go).
Good luck with Adoulin and Rhapsodies. NPC party members kinda really suck on some boss fights... unless they've been nerfed.
