When is SE going to do something real to fix the issues with housing?

I agree. They should change people owning multiple houses. I want to see that happen. But, it's probably not going to give you or anybody else in this thread here a house. There simply aren't enough houses to go around, and any that open up would be bought before any of us got off of work. And that's the point I'm trying to make: apartments suck, but there is a reason SE went with them. They don't want to make full housing available to everyone. They want it to be a highly limited market. Why? Talk to them about it. I disagree with the direction, but it's not my decision to make.

You are projecting your own opinion into a statement that is just fact. I am saying if the resources and space was available for everyone to have and purchase a house were there, it would be done. Clearly this isn't the case and a system is in place to limit that and, they are working on it and keep adjusting on it and they will continue to do so. That is all I have said, nothing I have said implied anything regarding players feeling entitled or feeling they deserve a house handed to them. You need to stop reading into such a simple statement.

You people have a real problem with reading. Never did I say that was okay and never did I say the system is perfect. All I said is they are working on it, they'll try and see what works, some things will suck, some things will work. We can hope for the best.

They are, hmmmm after so many years, probably never going to fix it because its not broke. You want a house, move to a smaller server. Take your friends with you. Housing isn't broke. Your server population is.

Not so. Low pop servers suffer from the same housimg limitations, save for the fact it takes a few hours for houses to be bought up verses minutes.

The fact that there is no limit to the amount of homes you can own is a very bad call on SE's part, but it seems wicked to take them from players that already own them. It should be implemented as such going forward that if you own a home, you can't buy more property, giving other players a chance, while letting current players retain what they have.

Moving to some backwoods server where nothing ever happens is not an acceptable solution.

Don't forget they planed housing for players seperated from the FC housing and with less costs...like the appartments. But people didn't want to wait for it and felt entiteld to housing so they cried and cried till SE decided players can have the left over FC houses. Be glad the don't take the houses away from the players and restrict it to FCs only like in the first months.

I say it here and now: When the day comes and we can upgrade the appartments to have multiple floors and a schrebergarten, they will take away the housing plots from players.

I am still not sure who thought it would be a great idea to have wards for personal housing too. It was a nice idea for free companies since you could meet each other in the garden but they should have made the personal houses completely instanced. It would be like the apartments with one house in each city and you could have upgrated your house from a small to a large one. Maybe even have the small version as a gift from the main story. With that the FC would have way less competition and maybe a lot more FC would have their own house..

Yet instead of doing something for it (a house is not apartment) they made it even worse by cutting down the prices..Its so easy to make gil in this game and now even a large house barely costs anything..There is still that little hope that maybe they learned something and will introduce instanced housing for Ishgard or maybe a nice instanced house in Idyllshire.

My apartment has a small bedroom, and a bathroom complete with walk in shower, and the rest is an entryway/hall and open area...


Haven't gotten around to really furnishing the open area yet though...

I have 2 houses,M-size Private and S-size FC.To be honest,One house is more than enough for me but since SE doesn't give me a choice to change from private estate to FC estate and I really really want to experience the airship contents so.. I have to buy another house... (my old FC ain't give me any autherized on workshop).

They need to start setting limits one house per server and maybe one fc house if your the fc leader i heard of a guy on gilgamesh that actually owns an entire ward to himself all because he didn't want to share a ward with anyone. The timers on auto demo don't seem to work they said they restarted them but i'm willing to bet now that people know this they log into all their alts at least once a month the keep the polt then go back to their mains. Like come on SE set a restriction that forces people to give up their extra plots without trying to charge us 5 to 10 times the normal price just for them to give up the plot there are people who could actually make use of the housing for fc's or private if they role play

Since when? Legion the biggest thing saving WoW at the moment and gaining players. So unless they screwed up something between last patch which was only a few weeks ago and now, WoW not falling, not even slowly.


Anyway, not the point of this thread though. As it been said before, if the problem could be fixed, they'd done it by now. SE went about this housing thing the wrong way and there really is no way to fix it unless they rework the whole housing system to be an instance, which they've already stated they won't do because they want people to interact in the housing area. Though why this was an excuse is beyond me because AION has done this perfectly fine and people can interact with each other outside housing/apartment buildings. Plus for them to go back and do this now, they'd most likely have to refund everyone their items and gil they paid for the houses when they got to remove them and make housing into an instance area. This would take their focus away from other important content and may take to much time.

We just have to wait it out... maybe in a few years everyone will be able to own a house.

Saying you want it fixed, while providing no possible solutions or suggestions is not paving the way for a good thread discussion.

In my humble opinion, making it so you are account bound to ONE house is a step in the right direction. Allowing our alts to have automatic sharing rights to that one account bound house would be even better, sharing an inventory chest would be a dream but would be amazing also.

Well..if none of the above suggestions work..you COULD always...Log in on patch night..camp the login button, already have your character in your desired lot by your desired house and...buy it. Technically, SE did fix the problem with apartments, the only thing being you dont have a garden. Otherwise, you have all the options a house does. And while that hawt lil miqo would definitely have let you comb her more intimate furs if you had a house, at least, if you have a furnished apartment, she WILL still respect you. I mean, even though itd woulda been TWICE as much fun since a house has upstairs and downstairs and apartment has just ONE LITTLE room but..

I really don't see how and why one house per account is a big damn deal. Every other game gets this right. RIFT has had a much better housing system for YEARS. EQ2? Better housing, hell even ArcheAge has a better housing system now. There really is no excuse how people own multiple houses on their accounts. Why the hell does an alt need a house? Its a crappy system that -even- damn Wildstar got right.

I would have to say its broke. Many games offer far more in the way of housing. Not only its availability, but far more creative in design. It makes this game not appear elite or modern, but backwards and ancient in design and out of touch.

The neighborhoods were a huge mistake and a complete waste of server space. Individual instanced would have been far better. Sadly op I don't have faith they will upgrade enough to ever offer housing to everyone . (not something they should be proud of tbh ) They should have copied Rift UI, CREATIVE player building in an instanced high item limit environment. Characters on the same account in Rift can own 10+ dimensions each!...no problem with availability OR owning multiple "homes". No one is left out. They found a way, SE needs to enter 2017 and adjust.

Housing here will always be extremely sub par unfortunately.

Will keep my fingers crossed for those still searching for a home.

Which is ironic when you realise that a game designed in 2000 and released in 2002 by the SAME COMPANY gives every LEVEL ONE character a FREE house that can be furnished the moment they spawn into the game.

The problems with housing are:-

A: the stupid auto demolition system.
Tenants entering the estate should reset the timer. If the owner of the estate goes overseas or takes a break for a few months and can't log in till they get back it's crazy that they'll lose there house. especially when Yoshi said the game wouldn't have any systems that required you to login or have an active subscription. letting teneants reset the timer would at least help these people out.

B:- Auto demolition should be scrapped entirely maybe replace it with some kind of rental system with something like ventures. similar how mog lockers worked in XI trade in the imperial pieces to rent a locker for a week.

this would do 2 things. first it would allow players who are planning to take a short break the chance to trade in enough of these items to cover there plot for the next few months. and secondly it would ensure plots belonging to players that weren't like to come back at all would still be released once the rental expired. thus you wouldn't have plots that have been abandoned for years. and yet players who simply took a short break would know there house is safe when they return.

C:- Appartments would be better if they simply had a balcony area for outdoor furnishings like garden patches. the main reason I kept my house for so long was solely because I used the garden to grow stuff. the house itself was largely neglected. port in water the plants and port out. never even step in the door..

D: they need an in game legit way of trading and transferring plots. I know quite a few people that have houses they don't really want or use, but keep them only because they've dumped so much money into them and don't want to lose it.. transferring them also goes back to a where if my mates is about to go on a tour of duty overseas he could transfer his esate to me for the next couple of months to look after.

and E: tenants should reset the auto demolishion timer. i'm a shared teneant of a friends house. who is currently very sick and pretty much lives in hospital so no time to play. and at some point the plants I have growing in his garden might just disappear when the plot gets reclaimed despite me being there every day.....

I heard they'd be getting rid of the company crafting thingy where you need 4 people to advance projects. If they're doing that then they may as well add workshops to personal houses... be quite nice to have my own airships. instead of trying to grab the fcs ships when they're available and someone else hasn't sent them out.

Honestly, until every game has housing like WildStar I will never be satisfied anyway, so whatever.

Well technically what you said isn't entirely incorrect, but your argument is as weak as saying even without drink-driving, there will still be car accidents anyway, so there's no need to deal with the drink-driving issue.

Except that is not actually the reason the player gets a 'free' house in FFXI at all - FFXI's Mog Houses were actually meant as a means of helping spread server load, by taking logged in players out of the main game world and into their own instanced area (this is why for so long players could not even invite another player into their Mog House, it would cause server stability problems, as well as why basic game features like changing a Job were restricted to only being accessible inside - being able to change furniture is also an incentive, it's all to try and encourage players to spend as much time in there as possible).

It was only when FFXI's player population dropped enough that SE decided that the server stability aspect was no longer required and so eased off on some of the restrictions (such as being allowed to invite others inside your Mog House if they are currently in a party with you).

Really, the basic functions of a Mog House are already granted to all FFXIV players anyway in the form of the Inn Room, the only real differences being you can't personalize the furniture (because it's, you know, an inn), and it becomes accessible upon completing the level 10 main scenario quest for your starting city and isn't just granted automatically. But everything else is pretty much the same.

This sounds like an urban legend to me. While technically possible, I seriously doubt that it is true.

In fact, the whole deal with alts buying up multiple houses is, I think, a lot less common than people assume. I'm guessing that if they did implement the whole one-house-per-account thing, only a bare handful of houses would be reclaimed. They SHOULD still do it - I mean, come on, no single person should own more than one house when housing is such a limited commodity - but it's far from a solution to the problem.

I disagree with this. Neighborhoods are the goal games should strive toward. Players should be able to walk around and admire people's houses, not select them from a list and be transported there. Instanced homes are all but pointless. I had an instanced home in FFXI, and never felt any real desire to furnish it and pretty it up. After all, I was the only one that could see it - and even when they added the ability to invite others into your home years later, there still wasn't much point as the only folks you'd be inviting were friends, so only a bare handful would ever see it.

The issue here is that SE's goals were too ambitious, not that they were wrong. They didn't have the infrastructure to support a neighborhood system, and still don't. That's what they need to fix. And if you're fine with instanced housing, well, we HAVE that, now - apartments are plentiful, and to my knowledge even on the most densely populated servers there are still available to purchase.

He probably has multiple versions of the game (like perhaps he bought 3 of them on sale when the refer-a-friend for the Twintania mount was out), so he would have 24 potential characters on one server. Crazy to pay for 3 subs like that but I guess it's theoretically possible?

I think they should reorganize the system. Make FC houses be in a separate ward -- I mean, you can't force people to move, obviously, but make it super enticing for them to want to. I know SE was working on a system where you could move your entire house to another area. And there are still some closed-off areas like in Gridania (for elites) - so perhaps this is still in development.

Housing Wards is a great idea, the communal factor is important, what's dumb was mixing personal and FC houses to the extent that they did. personal houses should never be allowed to be built on L and M plots. those should've been reserved for FCs.
