Pirates!!!!! oh you meant water :PQuote:
Arcanist Guild is located in Limsa Lominsa, which is surrounded by .....
I dont remember if they said they were releasing another class anytime soon.
But if they do release Arcanist to have some of the missing stuff I mentioned, I will be super happy again to not only get the skills back but to have a third mage.
Let us hope that is their plan, because I do not believe SE would remove so many skills without their being a plan, I just wish they would not leave us in the dark. Maybe they will answer it in a dev question or something.
I'm more curious how this will work on when Black Mage is added. Since I thought Yoshida said you can't mix-and-match actions as a job.
I wouldn't see how that would make a huge difference, blm would have to just use the spells they are given.
Most mage classes in MMO's dont' have access to more than 3 magic schools.
It's probably unlikely though that they would restrict aero and stone from being used, espcially considering you require con 15 to get the first quest. (which suggests at least one if not both of those spells will be obtained before 15)
Assuming we are even keeping the same elemental wheel.
Funny thing is that Ifrit being fire based should be weak to wind and Aero belongs to CNJ, so would a CNJ be better at DDing Ifrit or would a THM ?
Does a THM lose any magic potency if he uses cross class magic spells such as Aero ?
ofc it will hurt him, fire on fire elemental hurt them, its just not optimal or as good as say water, the one being removed! :O lol
so things will stay the same, where its X class onry to specific events. All this diversity will end up being a waste because people will always want to use the best strategy and already its clear blm is not part of that strat unless the mob is weak to blm's 2-3 specific spells or they need sleep or something.
maybe mages wont lose potency when cross skilling. Which fixes that lil issue.
Not to burst any bubbles but i thought Arcanist was more of a "trap" mage class? I could swear Yoshi-P said that somewhere...maybe the first Live Letter or right before it. Would it make sense to give it regular elemental magic?
Also without Water the wheel could look like:
Stone > Thunder > Wind > Fire > Ice > Stone
Stone absorbs the Thunder cracks through the Wind blows out the Fire melts the Ice entraps the Stone.
As far as the Light/Dark spells I would assume those to be reserved for a new class entirely, hopefully Time Mage (since Time Mage did have Astral Magic [it did have Meteor as its final spell in Tactics])
Ancient Magic might become a Scholar thing, learning the old magicks and stuff
Enfeebles might introduce a Red Mage type class/job (Fencer > Red Mage anyone?)
But then there is the talk of the Geomancer (which I believe Yoshi-P said he wanted to introduce as it is/was a Japanese favorite back in XI's day so I assume it still is)
When you think destructive power, you naturally think Fire spells. I don't think it's out of left field for BLM to have more fire nukes at first. They will probably get more of the other elements in the future though. Progression doesn't stop at level 50.Quote:

i have the same question, I NEED WATER! =P it's my favorite element, and it would be casted by CNJ =)
Favorite element, I made +60 water magic potency boots for it.... I will cry. lol
IDR FF4 very well, but in FF5 and FF6, Blue Magic would give you Aqua and Aero.
FF7 also had variances to these, such as Arua Ring (I THINK it was called.)
I was surprised these became BLM spells later, but shrug and dealt with it.
If they ever add RDM, I don't see it being a "Melee Mage" Since MNK has become that now.
Similar to BLU.
Most likely a BLU will be more like Strago, a more "Mage" stat class. (ArcAnimist being the most likely class to a Blue Mage, simply because the Geomancer/Pet class options that were originally planned for it, are more so spread to BST/SMN now.)
MND is still "associated" with the water element, and shows up on water-based items, but there's no added effect to heals by increasing water affinity and no added effect to water damage potency by increasing MND, so that whole argument is pretty pointless. It's just everyone used to seeing the pairings of fire-STR, earth-VIT, water-MND, etc. that makes people think there is something more, but there isn't currently.
Anyhoo, I have faith that SE will bring the beloved water and flood back in whatever form, either post-level 50 or on a new class/job (I always think of Sages and Bishops from FF tactics with the water/aero spells,..... though I will admit BLM only having fire, ice, lightning is pretty old-school FF, haha)
Hehe, before XIV was even in alpha, all my brainstorming was around FF tactics.
Bishop, Defender, Templar, Illusionist, Alchemist, Sage, Time Mage, Fencer, Assassin, Elementalist....
Now THAT was pulling off class uniqueness with only 10 abilities, just wow.
But on that warm, fuzzy feeling, that's for another thread. lol
Lol they should just go with Tactics classes. So much win in that game and not many people have played it. I also LOVED the story. For the PS1 version of course. Not tactics advanced.
Anywho, I'm sure water will get added later, there are only like 11 abilities posted for THM so far
I could definitely see a mage class originating from LL getting the water line of spells.
Possibly Arcanist since its guild is already there? However there is proof in game that Arcanist can summon familiars in the grand company quests a la Beastmaster. But who knows, SE can make anything they'd like.
My lolReasoning behind a LL mage for water spell line:
Island city surrounded by water
Leviathan lurking about
CNJ got wind and earth, two elements associated with the forest/Gridania
Wind and Earth are two of the least "damaging" spells/threat to a forest
THM got fire/blizzard/thunder
Fire is in their class icon
All 3 bring death quickly and/or painfully
Uldah is a desert - Fire
Uldah has a live fast feel - Thunder
Uldah is cold and unforgiving - Blizzard
Time to blow this thing up!
Ice is frozen water.
Oh man, this is great.
SE went back to the real traditions of the series. Now water will be a Geomancer/Blue Mage spell as per the tradition.
Now we can see who the hypocrites are.
Well Yoshida did call it the Beast tamer class, but since the arcanimist was originally intended to be a pe/geomancer class, its quite possible the "Beast tamer" will be the arcanimist. (Also because the BST/SMN will be DoM)
