Considering Yoshi-P made a similar allusion to a future class 2 years ago wearing a Batman shirt; Dark Knight, I'd consider that more reliable than half the knee jerk reactions from the cinematic.

Well, it's not like we have cloth physics in game either. And between the two, which seems more likely to arrive in 4.0?
I kid, of course. My only reasons for thinking it likely are that they're finally looking at XC skill changes, and that Dancer has been hinted at previously. This is no proof, but it is good eye-candy. Dem cloth physics.
no they didn't..omg I wish ppl stop saying this lol.
the producer, Yoshida said in the key note, "the warrior of light is a monk, as monk is the job for 4.0 how drg was for 3.0 and as for the girl? You'll have to wait and see" lol so no one knows , they want us to speculate, etc
Why is everyone ignoring the fact that she does like 3 slashes in the trailer, and then in the official art she has a hidden dagger or whatever that is in her right arm? Even in the stormblood logo.
I honestly believe it's a new job, maybe not a dancer, but it's not a Monk either.
The thing that triggered me was the sudden cut-away from the weapon the woman was using that was not her fists, but the cloth with a blade on it that was used as a sort of mid-range weapon.
Weapons are the strongest indicators of new jobs, and if they were trying to keep Dancer under wraps, yet tease it slightly, having only brief instances of the use of the weapons would be the best theoretical method.
So yes, unconfirmed Rumor, but it does fit. Dancers often have moves resembling flowing martial arts, and historically FF dancers did use cloth as weapons (as well as daggers, swords, etc in more muti-faceted games, but cloth was often their most unique weapon) so seeing a glance of a cloth being a weapon is a heavy hint to us FF historians.
Looking forward to confirmation or debunking in the future.

Reference of the dagger/sword she has attached to her right arm
What if he knows everyone is expecting that and purposely misleads us this time? Moreover, doing such a gig twice in a row would just set expectations and is boring to boot. Clearly it's just a trap or nothing at all, people are just knee-jerk reacting to a random T-shirt because it alluded to something in the past.
Honestly, I'd just let people speculate.
The problem is this community loves to take speculation and get carried away with it. Doesn't take long to go from mere speculation to "SE promised X" or "Yoshi-P confirmed Y" and when it turns out those claims are false, the community turns on SE and blames them instead of owning up for their own knee-jerk idiocy.
Has anyone considered that they are both indeed monks, but (with higher budget and dropping of ps3) have male and female animations for the same job.
As this is the teaser to a larger trailer being released later, I'd like to imagine that almost directly after the cutoff point for the teaser, the crimson lady stops using monk moves and starts using dancer moves entirely to defeat her WoL friend, or I suppose to cheat at their little game. So as far as wild speculations go, that's what I think will be the case when the longer version is released. I guess I will have to eat my darksteel foil hat if I turn out to be wrong.
Honestly, speculation and excitement is great, especially from a business standpoint. It can also be good for the conmunity, if we follow some simple guidelines first! Please don't personally attack one another and also please don't state as fact what we can't for sure rule out as an opinion.
Come on, people! It's a happy time! A new expansion, new information, new stuff to hypothesize over! Dig in! :)
I think it might be dancer, and the reason to why it's so similar to monk and at the same time it isn't, it's because in this game dancer won't be a "female-only" job anymore, like on other FF titles. They need to create something that doesn't look weird or stupid on the opposite gender of the same job, but at the same time give it an identity. I have no idea of how a Dancer job would look like on male characters since it's something completely new to the FF fanchise, and I really hope SE doesn't make dancer the first gender-locked job of the game. Maybe in the full trailer we'll see more fancy dancey moves, and it's also worth mentioning that the hand she's using for punches in the trailer is not the same with the blade hidden, so there's also the possibility that yes, she's being a monk, but in the moment she "switches" styles to use her blade for fighting she goes into dancer job. If it's really Yda it might be a nice way to show her transition since she's been a monk ever since, but we know nothing about her, so maybe her "monk" fighting style is just something she had to develop herself to cover up the dancer moves in combat to preserve her identity.
Y'shtola is not a normal conjurer, Alphinaud is not a normal arcanist and don't even get me started on Alisaie. If Alisaie really is a Red Mage I doubt we will learn how to use the job through Arcanist grimoires. SE likes to give different abilities to major NPCs to create a sense of uniqueness, so the fact that "Yda" might be using her dancer moveset on a certain way doesn't translate into "the warrior of light will use the moveset on the same way". I think the whole idea of the Warrior of Light and jobs is to explain how we can achieve what no other NPCs can. And the fact that my White Mage is different than Y'shtola only means we have a certain uniqueness capable of changing the way out aether manifests itself.
In the end it might not be dancer on the trailer, or it might be a transitioning between two jobs, or even something else, but the fact they "never did it before on trailers" doesn't mean there's no room for doing it for the first time. Not showing a new job on a trailer or hinting/teasing it is not a rule. This is something we as the community started to believe just because they didn't. And the reason to why they didn't isn't because they can't, it's because they didn't wanted to. But time goes by, things change, and just like every other trailer and game in the market not every trailer or teaser will follow the same concept for years and years.
Well yes, you and I may think that, which seems obvious. However China and Japan haven't exactly gotten along in the past...and this is especially true in the martial arts world. Which is why im pleasantly surprised to see Chinese aspects in there. Yes they belong there for what it was showing, but some developers might have (and have in the past) changed it to seem more Japanese. Yes were in a new era and the hate is slowly fading, but I love to see Chinese aspects in my manga/anime/video games because of the past.
As for the dancing combat argument, many Chinese forms/styles had a fluid like movement similar to dancing and what we saw in the trailer. Again, maybe it is a dancer...but I HOPE it isn't, because of the monk clone aspect.
Maybe they did this on purpose for a debate. I doubt it but still :P
I don't know why everyone WANTS the lady in red to be a dancer? If THAT'S dancer, it's way too similar to MNK stylistically. Talk about lame.
Um...why is chatting on a forum having fun speculating suddenly a bad thing?
I fail to see why you needed to make this thread at all basically telling people to stop talking about the game they like and jobs they like on the forums for that game. Pretty sure that is what General Discussion is for yeah?
Sorry to burst YOUR bubble but speculation over expansion content is normal and the reason it is speculation is because there is no concrete proof. No one cares if there is no proof. They are just having fun making theories and looking at what information is available so far. It's also something called "hype" maybe you are unfamiliar with it.
I mean that's DNC AF
Everything's speculative, there's nothing concrete. It could be anything from Yda('s sister) to a new character. All we've seen is the WoL vs some lady in a red dress. Her movements did have a smooth flow to them so I understand the speculation that it's DNC (and I personally hope we get DNC as it's the only job I've been hoping for) but it's just guesswork based off very little info. We'll only know one way or another when they reveal the new jobs or at least the red dress lady's.
Outside of having red, I'm not seeing it.
And then there's the Red Mages of Bravely Default.

i want to leave something that was pointed in the lore section of the forum:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post3892780
maybe some people will see why people did say dancer when they have seen it.
Blahnelo holds a ribbon and Red Monk fights mostly with her fists and sometimes a ribbon. The fact that she mostly fought with her fists is why people are saying she's a Monk. She can be a Red Mage Dancer hybrid creature in any other instance, but in the teaser, she is specifically a Monk. Her weapon in other pictures appear to be a blade attached to her ribbon, which we did not see in the teaser (so again, she is a Monk for now. SE will most likely have her become a Dancer during the full trailer, or a Red Mage... or both at the same time. Dancing Mage).
Unless people really want another Job with Greased Lightning/Monk rotation.
Proof or no proof, I choose to believe that the lady in the teaser is a hint at Dancer. The very first instant I saw her outfit, the first word in my mind was: dancer. Before I even saw her move or fight. If I'm wrong, oh well, I'm wrong. Nobody needs to say they told me so, 'cuz I won't be arguing.
While I have my doubts about it being dancer, it has to be pointed out that the animations she used in the trailer were exclusively pugilist abilities(demolish, snap punch, featherfoot, and fist of wind), so they could go the silly split soulstone route again. As far as the blade weapon is concerned though, there are far more monk weapons with blades than there are without them. Hell, the level 57 monk weapons is http://img2.finalfantasyxiv.com/acci...7b4788b4b7.jpg
Huh? when has that happened? I haven't personally seen any examples of what you're saying, I am genuinely curious.
Hey fellow Snuggle Owl ;)
There is also the possibility that she has cross classed Pugilist abilities. It could be an NPC only thing, or part of the Additional Skill System Revamp they teased.
In terms of the blade, it's less that there is a blade on a MNK, it's more that it is such a focal point of key art work.
idk she seemed pretty monk like to me she even does pose changes XD
i want to point out, like on another thread, that the featherfoot skill was show as one of the reassement skill of the monk. i can see a few skill of the monk that need reassement, if i had to give example it will be:
- featherfoot (like show in the keynote)
- haymaker, it's a rest of the V1 that have no real actual use in our tools
- fist of the wind, it have little effect and don't stand the comparaison with the other buff.
- arm of the destroyer, sadly this skill (for it first role) don't work. not that it don't silence stuff, but we have other jobs far better for this than us.
- One Ilm Punch, this skill can maybe have a use in pvp, but in pve i have never use it...
normally i will add purification to the list, but on some really rare fight it can be usefull.
most of the skill i did pointed are skill we barely use and can be changed into stuff that will really be used.
some stuff like chi blast, or front position combo skill for solo.
don't get me wrong some of the skill i did pointed are kinda usefull for OTHER class and jobs.... like featherfoot that is really usefull for the tank. but only have really good interest in solo when badly equiped.
anyway, all we did say it's when we did see here move and such, for me it didn't scream monk more than this. for me it was more dancer. i have often said that i see the dancer using a similar system than monk but instead to rely mostly on fist, will be more a kick based jobs that will have skill for buff her team while fighting.
a melee support class what we don't have, soo far we do have the bard and machinist, but they are ranged. without forget that add a jobs that will probably mostly kick will have as damage type blunt, what we lack too.... then is not that far stretched.
ps: i guess i did play monk for too long for notice the difference, yes she use what look like snap punch, but that a straight fist attack quite basic, but she use too some insane move that are quite acrobatic, she is almost at half way between monk and ninja. for me she is not monk for sure.
fight with your hand and feet are not limited to monk only, seeing a jobs based on kick mostly is not impossible.... then.
I am unsure what she is, and really dancer would be nice but D: isn't her hopping up and down no different than the MNK battle pose (or victory pose I cannot remember?). If I recall they put their feet together and hop as well when doing it?
actually that the trouble, they both use different pose and moveset, that why we do have this debat. the monk is more a karaté fighter while she is more a kung fu fighter. like i have used as comparaison he is like earth and fire, while she is more wind and water.
he is straightforward and powerfull, each hit is filled with power and we can feel it. but she is more elusive and fluid, a lot of attack and not always filled with power.
without forget that her clothing scream dancing attire, cloth like she use can be a trouble for the monk movement, more an hindrance than a help. when her movement use it. she jump around and kick a lot. and when she do the charge is almost like a taunt to the monk, showing she can do it.
maybe i read too much into the fight, but i feel she fight too differently for be like the monk we do have! and that the point, she is not a monk like we have. she is a fighter that a given, but not a monk of the fist of raghr! don't forget only 2 school exist, and they both use the same fighting style. powerfull and hard hitting, they are destroyer.... what is not the feeling she giving off... she don't look like a destroyer that every punch can deal ton of damage!
then maybe she is not a dancer, but she is clearly not a monk of the fist of raghr! and that the debate!
Personally, I think Dancer would be really nice. One of the things that I love best about FFXIV's combat is the character animations, and a Dancer would be sure to have some great ones.
As far as the girl in the teaser goes...I want her outfit, so goddamn bad. XD
But anywho, on the one hand the way the girl moved and fought was decidedly different from how the Monk typically does, which is more in line with the style of the WoL. Of course, these differences could be purely for cinematic purposes.
Another thing is that, much like how Heavensward's trailer revealed the Dragonlancer's Set, I presume that what the WoL is shown wearing in this teaser will be the newest Artifact Set. So if the girl were a Dancer, that would make her outfit the same, the Dancer's first Artifact Set, which I'd like because again, I want it. But once again, on the other hand, it could just be an unique outfit exclusive to her if she turns out to be a story-relevant NPC, in which case...hello~ cashshop...
that the fun part about this, speculation by analyzing every bit of info we can take of this teaser.
but one thing bother me a bit....why show us this fight? yes the monk will be the job of the derplander... but it was a given with ala miggho as target. this character seems important, since yoshida did say we will learn more about it in the 3.5.
it can be yda or maybe her sister or another character coming out of nowhere!
who know.... but why show us this part? why not show us the part of the trailer that was pointing to ala miggho.... every bit of information given was not given without be thought over.
is like the picture of Zeno http://gematsu.com/gallery/albums/fi...-14-16_008.jpg when you see the weapon and the scabbard what you see? for me is katana without one doubt!
they did know that we will think about it, that we will analyze this stuff. then maybe they are hint to some stuff... or maybe not. but actually it's all we can do until december!
I thought she was a monk because she was matching Derplander's moveset and he is a monk for sure.
like said it was a fight between 2 fighter.... two monk? like i did pointed a loooot of time, clearly not. some movement are bound to look the same when you kick and punch after all the panel of attack can't be that massive. however, she kick a lot more, she is more acrobatic, she is more smooth and fluid in the fighting style and finally it's more kung fu, what the monk in FF14 don't do!
be carefull to not see any fighting style in melee as monk stuff since it's bound to not be the case.
I wonder if we're gonna see an uptick of the MNK population, since that teaser went up. I know I'm tempted to rally back to my MNK Soul. Then again, I was thinking about leveling that one next anyway. I love MNK because I can relate a little bit; as a martial arts practitioner, I feel especially connected with MNKs. I just wish I could do even a smidgeon of the crazy shit they do, ha.
I honestly think that at this point it doesn't matter what logic is. People want dancer, and they'll grab at straws to get it..
Does anyone remember the /balldance quest in Ul'dah? That guy who teaches it to you? He should be the master of the Dancers' Guild. =X
