We don't need open world PvP, but we need more dueling areas, I think.
Here in Sargatanas, there was actually a sizeable amount of people using that dueling square at the Wolves' Den for about a week and a half, but it died off last week, probably due to how out of the way it is (and the fact that you only ever saw tanks and the occasional Dragoon there).
Stick new areas like in like Idyllshire or something and more people will likely use them. (And let Healers actually Cleric Stance in there.)
So long as people with a sprout are non-target-able I think it might be okay. Nothing is worst than making a new character in WoW and being forced into PVP servers since the PVE ones are pretty much dead..... unless it's Moonguard, but I stay far, far away from that.
They can make a separate map for it. They can make our characters join two or more warring beast tribes and open world PvP will only be active on specific "siege" times and only to those who are participating.
We have both PvE and DoH/DoL beast tribes but we don't have anything for PvP yet.
I think a map the size of ARR's old maps or smaller where you can go in and PvP would actually be nice.
If he wanted to keep the GC restriction that would be fine, just a free for all. Maybe capture forts or having glamour drops in there from the mobs. Or maybe even decent mining nodes, etc. Of course make whatever drops in there tradeable for the people that don't want to go.
Nope dont need it at all want to kill some1? Thats wat frontline n wolf den is for
Open world PvP wouldn't work unless they overhauled the combat as well as balancing GC restrictions all that people have to do is swap GC and go to the "best" one and overwhelm whoever is camping people, not to mention the maps don't compliment PvP in the slightest. They're all too sandboxed and small sure it'd be fun to go around with your friends, blow people up, LBing people etc, there's also the fact that there's no reward for PvP players besides glamour/mounts and the gear is all but useless.
There's also the problem with areas being awkward like Sea of Clouds, Churning Mists where there are a lot of elevations to consider not to mention a lot of the areas don't have people in them, the majority are either in roulettes or houses people don't venture out in the world as much.
To balance PvP they'd have to:
-Have a toggle feature for PvP where you'd have to be in a "safezone" for 5 mins till it flags off except for 50+ areas where you'll always be flagged for PvP
-Remove GC restrictions just make it so we're all PvP mercenaries (applies in battlegrounds, WPVP)
-Make gear useful in PvP for example, if it's ilvl 250, in PvP combat it's ilvl 270 that way it's only use is PvP and not better then raid gear
-Have daily world PvP quests that give you EXP/Wolf marks where you have to kill certain people (Kill 1 Roe, 1 Miqo, 1 Lala, 1 Hyur, 1 Elezen or 1 Au Ra in WPVP)
-Gatherers/Crafters can't be flagged for PvP
-Put in areas where there's world PvP objectives 24/7 something like Ashran from WoW but not as awful with it's non PvP objectives
I'm not really for or against world PvP but I know if they put it in now I don't think anyone would play on them as most people don't want it or just ignore it altogether. It's a shame because I myself, had all the intentions of wanting to arena PvP in the Wolves Den but found out that I can only que solo for ranking? This, and many other examples are just how awkward the PvP in this game can be that's all it is:Awkward.
I don't want them to waste resources on a feature nobody will use.
I will use it.
There will definitely be people who use it. They just aren't voicing their opinions in this thread.
As another player said, we need a toggle feature.
Let us turn PvP on and off, like other games. If we turn it on, we can't turn it off for another 30 minutes.
This way, we can turn it off when we gather / fish, but leave it on if we want a challenge. PvP can be fun.
Would love to see objective maps, etc., reminiscent of what other MMOs would finally call "battlegrounds", or even just some place that's more eye-candy than wooden planks or wasteland snow and bare rock.
I think World PvP could have a place, but... it needs to be interesting, not just there for the sake of saying "hey, we have World PvP now... sort of", and needs a playerbase. XIV doesn't lend me much hope for either at this time.
Well, Seal Rock was beach, cavern and green plains.
Borderland Ruins was green mountains with a hint of Allagan flavor in the middle.
Wolves Den uses the same scenery as Hall of the Novice does.
And all of them kinda died out because there's not enough players to sustain them in addition to Feast and Shatter. Heck, even those two are scarcely "alive". I have serious doubts open world PvP, which in my experience is LESS popular or at least populated than instanced PvP, would be any different, regardless of how they designed it. That's why I mentioned earlier the only kind of open world PvP I could see successfully implemented is a PvP that doesn't "feel" like PvP.
Usually there is a toggle for PvP but the concern I have is when you do something like this it also has an effect on PvE because of the skills. Right now with the PvP being in instanced places it's easier to flip the skills around. I don't think that will be as easy in open world. The way they have the PvP set up now is a good thing it probably just needs some tweaking for balancing and variety for areas to play in.
I vote hell no to non-instanced pvp.
PvP needs more attention, but as it is it's unbalanced and pretty easy to cheese. I would love to see it given proper treatment and development! Until then I do NOT want to see PvP in the open world.
IF/WHEN PvP is good in this game, I will celebrate. All those people who gave us Gordias by saying, "savage is too easy," go play against someone who's not AI and stop mucking up the tuning!
I think a lot of people really don't understand what "open world PvP" is.
You can already go to the "PvP arena" and get into a fair fight. Or at least what you think is going to be a fair fight. (Insert "Jayne" reference here.)
Let me explain how "flagging yourself" and waiting for a fair fight will be like in open world PvP: You flag yourself. Nothing happens. But an unspecified time later, someone will see that you're flagged, and think "I can SO gank this guy!" Flag themselves, and proceed to crush you.
And that's if there is a flag system. If there is a "Open world PvP Server" then a lot of people will join it because "Their friends did" then get pissed when they get ganked while questing, gathering, or whatnot.
Ok. So you might think there can be some "rule set" that can protect people while they are gathering, questing, etc. Well, sorry. There is not. People that want to gank do it because they are overly competitive and just want to "win."
This is why there will be PVP servers where open world PVP is allowed. If your joining that server chances are you want to do PVP. If you're trying to join a non PVP server there are plenty of smaller servers in dire need of new people joining them.
What I'm getting out of this is a lot of "Please don't make my server a PVP server" and that's completely reasonable. While I wouldn't want to relocate or worse, make a alt, I wouldn't want to wish it on the rest of the Behemoth server to suddenly be a PVP server.
As for "wasting resources", adding in openworld PVP will draw in people. They will be gated to the [hopefully] new PVP servers and away from everyone who doesn't want to deal with it. But if enough people come in and stay for a decent amount of time it means more revenue for the game. Which means more to put back into the pve content.
I have no issue with an open world pvp server or an opt in open world pvp thing. I won't ever join a pvp server or toggle my pvp flag to on, but for those that want it good on them. If you join a pvp server and get whack-a-doodled while gathering or some such, whelp thems the breaks. I assume that's one of the risks of a pvp server.
Yeah, I've never seen it work, in the few other games I played, the pvp servers were ghost towns and eventually closed. Even BDO which was designed from the ground up as open pvp is having big problems and are in the process of changing the entire design philosophy and doing major changes on safe zones and pve... There's just not enough people willing to be content for others over an extended period where you will always have big discrepancies in power/performance.
That depends on a few factors for me.
Personally, I don't want open world PVP. I also feel that few people think of FFXIV when they think of PvP. While it might attract some players, I doubt it would attract many.
That said, if they were to add it, I'd want to make sure that there are PvE servers and PvP servers. I mean true PvE servers, not where you get flagged for PvP if you enter certain areas. Not where you get cross-realm transferred (not a thing here but it could be?) to a PvP realm and die trying to do your quest. I am a PvE player and all the PvP deaths I've had in WoW have been truly aggravating. I would not like to see that here.
Again, I'm fine if they add PvP servers though. I doubt that it would be very popular here.
The way SE set up and runs FF14 indicates it's not meant to cater to the kind of demographic that wants open-world PvP. In any event, it's too small a segment of the overall gamer population and the downside risk is way too high to make it worthwhile to SE (people unsubbing over griefing, rage quitting, toxic community, etc.).
Considering how reactive the GMs are to player complaints in general and the amount of poor behavior seen in something like Duty Finder, I could not imagine how the heck SE would deal with the issues that come with open world PvP. Also, it's important to remember SE approaches development from a largely JP perspective, which is not conducive to PvP content and further makes them unprepared to deal with the consequences of introducing open-world PvP (note games like PSO2, no PvP at all).
Personally, I always felt the PvP in this game was just tacked on since it was trying to meet the main stream criteria which is some form of PvP. But the combat adjustments (even though we don't know anything about them) might make the PvP experience more popular.
"Need" - No
"Want" - I think there is people that would enjoy that type of thing, really the only way to get a gauge on it, would be , to add it, and see how it does.
I would personally roll a separate character on a server like that to see how it plays out. Can't say if I would stick around or not. I think dueling anywhere would be enough for me, its a fun idle thing.
I've played in pvp realms in most mmo's i've played, if available. It just adds an extra layer onto things, makes it all seem more rewarding, but then again I like Hardcore modes as well... and I crank difficulty up on most games too... soooo I'm a bit bias.
Holy crap, tonight is the night of projection on the forums, it seems. Take it at face value please.
I'm saying exactly what I said, there is no real way of getting a gauge on demand beyond just adding it. (Via w/e means they feel fit)
PTR and my opinions on it, is a completely different topic. It isn't anything I was addressing, implying... nor is it something I feel like discussing. There was nothing to read into there, you injected it.
In short, no, that literally had nothing to do with what I was saying.
If someone else wants to travel down that line of discussion with you, that is fine. I'm personally not up for it, no offense intended. :)
It's pointless to ask if it's needed or not. If they're going to create a specific realm to do that, it means it's gonna be optional and it's not gonna affect anyone who don't want this content. So it's a good thing to have this content. No con, at all.
Just no thanks for me.
If people want to PvP, fine, let them use map that were designed for that but I've spend too many hours being ganked by +20 lvl *** to be in favor of open PvP. As always, it would be used by trolls to ruin others players games so just no
