Why do Prototype chest pieces still take 4 weeks to obtain?.

Because you can tell exactly how other people can and should spend their time? as if everyone wants to grind the same old dungeons to farm lore mats, as if everyone has the gathering gear to get the mats to get the stuff crafted in the first place.

Not gonna read the whole topic, but if you find a crafter that is dumb enough to just craft an item without charging for it, because the other person got all mats that's on him.

I do it for friends or fc members when I am in an fc, but the moment I offer my services on the pf, despite the fact that the person has all the mats, I still charge you for my effort of having to click 5 buttons and shards. I don't care what a person does after that with the product.

He could be standing naked on his head, cracking nuts with his butt cheeks while throwing the chest piece in the air. All I care about is, I got paid for the minimal effort I've done and made someone that has no crafting professions happy and donated a little bit of gil (in case he sells it). Win win situation.

He's confused. Springs are for the legs (a11/12 drop) while shafts are for the chest and only drop in 12. 4 weeks for a chest maybe. But you can have a full set of 250 gear in 5 weeks. I don't think that's too bad.

At the very least, I think it would be good for them to lower the amount of Springs and Shafts required for Legs and Chest pieces from 4 to 3. I feel like the system in place is definitely an artificial way to lengthen the amount of time people spend gearing in Alexander. The catch is that many of these people would spend just as much time in the instances each week anyway, just aiming to get different gear. Instead, we just see the same people running the instances over and over, and in the case of the final two fights, I always see 4+ people lotting exclusively on the Springs or Shafts. People leave unsatisfied, they try again, and the process repeats. Sometimes you get lucky, but often times it just makes me sour to even try for the higher sought after items because the process is irritating. The fact that there are i250 crafted items definitely doesn't make Alexander more appealing either, overpriced or not.

Maybe you don't care, but some crafters do. They charge much less to craft something for you than the price on the MB on the assumption that you're going to actually use the equipment you crafted for them.

It's a sad state of the game when you see crafters in PF requiring that you spirit bond the item in front of them after they make it because of people like him...

The 'Normal' tier raiding gear never made any sense.

Just like the normal tier raid itself.

Personally i wish Shafts would drop in A11 and A12. It'd certainly make it easier to get a chest piece.

You can't blame the community for your wrong/false assumptions. There's no crafting contract between a person and you, if you assume that the person wearing the item after you crafted it, than that's on you.

Obviously a crafter charges less for items he/she crafted for someone, if the person brings their own mats, however it's still not free like some people trying to argue. If you as a crafter want to make money, get your own mats, craft the item put it on mb. Sitting all day on the game, trying to find work via pf (own recruitment or responding to it) is not the way to go, but again that's your own fault if you chose to go that route. There's plenty of other and quicker ways to make money if that's what you're looking for, however be aware that after a couple of months, the item you try to work so "hard" for, will be a part of your retainers venture. Don't start complaining that you missed out on the pocket change because you were sitting for 8 months on the pf forcing people to equip the item you just crafted because you cared so much.

I craft for free, thanks for calling me dumb for offering a service for people lol.

I don't actually care if people sell it, honestly, it's just kinda scummy, and I would just passively warn people of that person in the future if I found out they were selling something I made.

Your arguments don't even make sense anymore. I never even hinted to sell things that people make for you, as the point of it was to get a crafted piece made to use. Unless you're talking about getting one piece crafted so you can buy another piece...which...doesn't make any sense? Why not just get the piece you need crafted? XD

And if someone wants to waste their time getting a chest from A12, by all means go and do it. No one said you can't. It's just more efficient to do something else, and that is the problem. The lack of efficiency for going for an A12 chest is what makes it useless. I'm sorry if that is hard to understand, I thought it was pretty straightforward.

That's the definition of caring. The moment you feel anything, in your case as you describe it as scummy, means you actually care. Otherwise you would not feel the need of having to warn others about the person (passively/actively/intentionally). If you don't care at all, you would just let it go and next time that person msg's you, ignore/deny the request. You're the only one to blame, if you feel that way after having discovered that someone resold something you made for free.

The complete tome gear take three months to obtain. The complete prototype gear take 1 months to obtain.

Always level and gear your crafts and gatherers! I crafted all my gear (GSM, WVR and CRP) except boots because it was LTW, but still it was "free" since I gathered and crafted everything by myself :D

Now I don't have to do Alex normal! (well, just A12 weekly for the weapon item)

But the tome gear is actually upgradable, and will last you far longer (till next iupgrade) then the prototype gear that you'll easily replace, either BY the tome gear, raiding gear or even crafted gear with basic free melding slots, yet it takes 4 weeks to get the body, which by the time you get the shafts for it, you no longer will ever need it. No idea why they keept that decision.

I’m going to add my 2 cents to this.

I'm raiding as PLD, but I main DRG.
But since raiding will need the better gear, PLD gets all of the tome gear for now, and a few alex pieces to compensate for tome gear that I can’t buy until a few weeks.
Whereas my DRG will get mostly Alex stuff, and will not get tome gear until I can say my PLD won't need it anymore.

Combine that with I generally don't have a lot time to play besides weekends, then I won't bother to waste my "precious" time on gathering, crafting or spending gil on crafted gear.
Because I don't see a need for a crafted gear what so ever.
It plays quite ideally to me, my DRG will not be top tier, but it will be up there in above decent gear terms until I can settle for better.

But ofcourse, this is my opinion, it works in favor for me since I'm split "maining" 2 classes and won't "waste" time or gil on what I deem useless crafted gear.

EDIT: To add time to this.

My DRG can be full Alex geared in i250 gear minus 1 ring and wep in just 5 weeks time with good planning on which alexander drops I need each week.

If I were to gear my PLD in full tome gear, it will take 14 weeks get all pieces. So my DRG will not be able to get any tome gear until week 15 earliest should I gear my PLD in full tome gear.

Sure I could get to my DRG to i250+ really quickly with crafting, but why would I need the gear? For the "casual content"? Non-crafted gear will be more than enough for that. Which I have cleared as a i236/i240 DRG.

I'm gearing SMN (lore&savage), but also BLM, SCH, WHM, PLD, WAR and later MNK and BRD.
Some of them share gear, some of them get different pieces (BLM<->SMN with Spellspeed) although they are the same role.

Why should I get an expensive and shitty acc+ss crafted body for my monk instead of an Crit+det one, if I don't want to buy the (also not that good) scripture one within the next 10 weeks?

Let me tell you a secret: Some of those gearing paths might cater more to players with more than 1 class instead of being implemented just for gearing your one and only main job.

it doesn't make sense to you because you can't come to terms that the same item has the same value regardless of how it was acquired.

and the proof that the same item has the same value is because you can sell it for the same value (-the Market Board fee but in return for that fee you save the time back for gathering the mats). that this even has to be explained to you is why my argument seems to not make sense to you.

i never actually said someone SHOULD sell it, only that they can.

Indeed, this i what I did but I have LTW instead of WVR so I geared up my BRD & PLD to i250 in two weeks between crafted gear and alex gear to fill in the holes (mostly PLD gear) and 1 script body for PLD. All I had to get crafted from someone else was PLD shield and bam two classes full i250 in 8 days after the patch.

Think you're misunderstanding.

Let's say you have like... half a million gil or something, so not enough to buy a piece of crafted but enough spare gil to pay for a crafter's services.

Now, you either take the rest of that money and buy the mats (if you have enough to afford them, depending on your server) or you can go out and get at least the Lore mats yourself.

So let's say now you have all the mats gathered, one way or another, with spare money left over to pay a crafter. If you got the piece crafted, and then sold it, you'd have gil to spend on... buying the piece again.

You could sell the piece and then wait a long while for the price to go down and end up at a profit, but by that point the necessity for those pieces will probably have disappeared.

So basically, at least as far as I understand, Foxy is saying that you don't necessarily need all that gil to get something crafted - you can get the mats and then get it crafted for significantly cheaper. Essentially what you're paying for from the MB is an immediate jump to having the crafted piece, rather than needing to get all the mats and then finding someone to craft it. What you're arguing is that getting the thing crafted would give it as much value as simply buying it from the MB - which is true, but (afaik) isn't what Foxy is saying. Correct me if I'm wrong and all that, just kinda what I gathered from the conversation.

Sure I get what you're saying but someone that poor would also struggle to properly meld the crafted piece. And again you can say well he can do PotD and Mhach and Dailies to get his own materia but if he has all that materia to begin with, he could've sold it for gil and bought the piece as well.

yes/no. what you don't pay for in actual gil you pay for in time getting the mats. and a big part of his overall argument in this thread is that farming A12N is a waste of time. it's not a waste of time if the person doing it likes the battle content.

I don't understand this thread.

You can get substitute pieces as early as patch day (crafted) or two weeks (tomestone).

Therefore, the Alex piece needs to come sooner? It doesn't follow. If you're working on the chest you get substitute with something else you JUST MENTIONED until you get it. OR you just don't get it because the other gear you substituted is already superior. Doesn't adversely affect ANYONE to have it take four weeks. What is the big deal?

That's the big deal. The superior choice is simply to not go for it. It should be an actual choice.
