There is more salt here than LoL....
It'll be funny if the only glamours they release with 3.5 are the old carbuncles. :P
I thought the main complaint (originally) was that the egis weren't "epic" enough. If they release glamours of the other primals as egis, they will almost certainly be similar to what summoners currently have. Also, let's say the glamours are tied to either Ifrit/Titan/Garuda. Garuda is used 90% of the time so it's not like you'll really get much use out of egi glamours associated with the other two. *shrugs*
That wouldn't be funny at all given that we've already been told the first set will just be Carbuncles. I appreciate your attempt to laugh at others' expense though.
This has nothing to do with the complaints about the egis not looking like the primals. This is related to the devs saying they were working on this to make up for not giving SMNs new pets. They're two entirely unrelated discussions.
As for your second point, let's say we don't make wild assumptions about how the system works just to say it's pointless...
I fail to see how this can be justified in any way, shape, or form.
They have already said that the first "set" of glamours will just be the already-existing Carbuncle glamours. Aside from a few particle effects for Ifrit, THEY ALREADY EXIST! That was one of the serious complaints when 2.0 first launched; SMN egis were literal carbon copies of the Arcanist Carbuncle. How long does it take to alter a couple lines of code? It is a simple matter of changing the code to reference the carbuncle files instead of the Egi files!
Delay after delay after delay. Failed promise after failed promise after failed promise. It is mind-numbing to me how this industry (video games in general) can get away with failing to meet their deadlines more often than not, and still remain in business.
EDIT:
Found this on reddit, lol...

Sorry.. but it's true, the PvP is God awful
They should not bother with 1% content most players won't do or care about, putting TT in DF along with LoV, new PotD, ugly slight alterations of exisiting clothing that are called new gear, face roll dungeons, playlist functions on Orchestrion and new furniture, circle arena primal fights, boring new equipment. There's MORE important stuff than this nonsense.
I was hoping we'd just get the xpac instead of another patch lol..
I'd rather have SMN actually be a SMN over just simple skin swaps but...guess this is better then nothing???
Yup.
Who cares about them, right, why bother making it if such a small group will even bother? Just do story version, or don't, it's all nonsense anyway.
(obviously I'm not serious, and this is all a snarky way of saying that just because someone doesn't care about something you deem "nonsense" doesn't mean it should cease development, and subsequently remove the delight of its supporters when it's finished - who are they, or anybody for that matter, to say what shouldn't be made or anticipated - there's a whole list of things I deem "nonsense" in this game, but I'm not so vindictive as to wish it stopped, or unfair enough to think its fans are wasting resources just because I don't care for it) Oh, and this isn't aimed at you, just in case you thought it was.
Well Considering EoS even looks better then all of our Egi's combined, I'm looking forward to new summons(getting tired of the 3 we have) but I also want detailed Glamour. If all we get is more blobs then i'm done with SMNR.
Well, at least now I can stop caring about Summoner anima.
Instead of whole new egi designs or egi glamours, they should give summoners additional traits that morphs their current egis and more or less improves them.
Seriously, not playing the class because the summon doesn't look sexy enough is BS. What does it matter? Either you like the gameplay or you don't. I have seen no shortage of summoners and any increase you see for the class will be short-lived if it is only a visual thing.
I really wish they would improve the gameplay than focus on this stupidity.
The Chinese clothes are just getting the code for it and the assets. Any decent programmer can implement that in a few minutes. The camera though is nothing but idiocy. All the time and resources wasted in a screenshot feature? Please....they have nothing to do, I have a few suggestions for them.
For something that has had all its assets in the game since launch (ie. carbuncles), not being able to do this for so long is really a bad joke by now. They could easily have slapped an additional skill "Summon Carbuncle" on SMN and call it a day ages ago, it would have been an ugly and rough stitchwork of solution, but at least we would have it already. Instead of - whatever else they're trying to do that obviously seems way too complicated and/or low-priority to pull off.
I am sad, I just want my Carbuncles back. When I started the game I choose this class because I love playing pet classes in games and because the Carbuncle looked so beautiful. I mean it looks like it has its own personality. I am really happy if someone wants something in the game (like the camera options for screenshots) and gets it, even if its not something I would use..but at the same time I cant stop feeling a little salty that those are chosen over the egi glamour..We know that we would get Carbuncle first and they even said that its only one egi per patch..So it would already be a lot of time if someone wants a certain egi. And yet they still cant manage to give us at least the Carbuncles while teasing us with them in the story. (Maybe I should take some lessons from Alphi..)
I do agree that they should improve the SMN gameplay, I'd much rather it play like a... well, traditional summoner than it is now (not that I don't find it fun, now) with DoT management being more important than the... summoned thing.
At bolded. Just like any decent programmer could take the already made Carbuncle so many want and add an interface like the already implemented glamour one to let you switch to its already made model... in lets say, a day tops?
Don't worry, it was. I was actually adding to it up until the brackets, but then I got carried away.
At this point, I'd settle for them redesigning Garuda, Ifrit, and Titan. No extra coding required, no bull**** that takes multiple years worth of work to complete, just simple redesigns that can be done by the modeling and animation teams to make the summons at least look on par with the Carbuncle model. Hell, you take the minion versions of them that are already in the game and use that. I don't care, just something that makes me feel more like I just summoned the same thing that I originally fought so many patches ago.
Hell, I would even say don't even bother with a new set of glamours. I'd rather see them add the other primals in as actual spell attacks in 4.0, where they pop up, use their signature attack, and disperse. That way, we get new spells that do new things, in a way that makes me feel like an actual summoner. I mean, that's how they've been handled in the series for the longest time anyways, so why not borrow from that?
Admittedly, rather than new Egis I'd almost rather see some primals just incorporated into various attacks, in addition to the current egis. For example, perhaps "Painflare" becomes "Ramuh's Wrath", and the attack summons a Ramuh Egi which blasts them with lightning or whatever. Maybe a new DoT (or one of the older ones) can be converted into "Shiva's Revenge" with some new ice effects and a mini-shiva. That way Summoners don't require new pets all the time (which might be difficult to differentiate mechanically) but still "gain summons" with their new skills. This would require some serious modifications to the class, however, and I can't see something like this happening outside of a major expansion.
As for the Egi glamours, I can't exactly blame them for putting it on the backburner. There are three major problems with Egi glamours from a prioritization standpoint:
1.) It's Niche Content: "Egi Glamours" is a cool feature, but it only applies to a small subset of players. According to the 2015 official census (http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...e8ff1bcf34c5ae ) approximately 9% of job distribution is Summoners. You can increase it to 18% if you also include Scholars, but it's still a small subset of players that can even use it. It's actually likely significantly less than 18%, considering pretty much every level 60 Summoner also has a level 60 Scholar (provided they complete the class quests). Plus, you'd likely have to be lvl 60 to use the feature, which makes the users for it even lower. I don't know how the numbers are generated, so for all we know the actual amount of "Summoner Mains" who would use it might be even lower than 9%. It's a cool feature, but ideally they want a larger percentage of the games population using a new glamour option. Plus I can't wait to see the forums rage about how "this was included over X".
2.) It's Expensive Content: Believe it or not, it's incredibly time consuming and expensive to create new models and animations. In a recent interview, Yoshi P stated it takes 6 months to add a new outfit to the game, partially due to the altered models for different races and the like. Creating new, unique models (and especially animations) is incredibly expensive and time consuming for most games, not just this one. It's the reason most games use a lot of recolored or slightly modified enemies, because it seriously helps to cut down costs. Egi Glamours would be no exception to this (surprisingly high) cost, especially considering each glamour they add needs their own set of animations. This is especially true is they allow you to use any primal in any of the three roles. Currently, each Egi has Six different attacks / animations (including the summoning animation). That means that for each new/updated egi, they need to have at least six different animations, possibly somewhere in the 12-15 range if they want to allow them in any role. That is going to be far more expensive than it sounds. Admittedly this isn't as relevant for the Carbuncle, who'd only need around three more animations, but even that isn't cheap.
3.) It Might be Difficult: Lastly, depending on how the game is coded, it might be a significantly more difficult task than it appears. It's not necessarily simply "swap out model". Whether it be hard-coded, client-server data integration or simply poor planning this could actually be a very difficult feature to implement. Plus it would necessitate new menus of some sort, and a lot of more backend work than it may appear. I don't know enough about their code base to speculate on their difficulty, but working in the software industry has taught me that many times "simple" changes can be a herculean effort. They are likely dealing with a lot of old code that wasn't designed to make this kind of feature easy to implement. Once again though, that's just me speculating.
So, while I truly understand and respect the desire for Egi glamours, I also understand why it's not considered an especially large priority by the game designers.
Every time the topic of egi glamour comes up, I can't help but feel you guys are leaving something out.
I dont think it's really fair to give a glamour system for egis to summoners and exclude scholars from that system. I'd wager there's as many scholars that dont like thier pet looks as summoners. If summoners get new pet skins, I don't think scholars should be left out. After all, we are all arcanists.
Thoughts?
It'll just be ramuh grape booger instead of garuda sour apple booger. The most underwhelming implementation of smn in any FF of all time
Just change the summoner to a necromancer class, abd make summoner a real pet-oriented class. I can see it working in the back of my brain. But whatever; they're afraid of the backlash they'll get, when they just went all out on one class.
Nice option. If they find it that hard to balance summons, even though they manage to balance jobs. Just forget the glamour thing and add summons as cast spells the way you imply. And just have the summon out in towns for glamour purposes, no battle tie ins to the companion dot nuggets.
This is unfortunately the same logic that some players are now using to demand that egi-glamours should be postponed until every job gets its own gimmick system though.
Let's please not lose sight of why the egi-glamours are happening. SMNs were promised further pets, as is standard for Summoners in the FF franchise, and then had them cut. A Summoner with only three summons isn't really a Summoner by series standards, and Yoshi agreed, so he promised the egi-glamour system as a compromise to make up for the missing pets. Whilst I have no doubts that the system could, and likely will be, expanded to encompass SCH pets as well, this isn't just an extra thing for SMNs because the devs were feeling nice; it's their way of making up for cutting planned SMN pets.
To the people saying this doesn't really matter..well, we were told in 3.0 we would be getting new pets or rather to expect them by the producer in many, many interviews and live letters. So people had thought more pets would mean improving the job in the sense that it can finally feel like a PET CLASS instead of a dot mage. Lots of people were excited and hopeful.
Then in the very last interviews where they were showing off new job abilities..they surprised us by telling us sorry, no new pets lol but instead we will get glamour egi! Yay...
Well it is nearly time for the next expansion and we don't even have that. The only reason I bought HW was because they were saying how we were going to get new pets and abilities. So yea this is a pretty big let down.
I understand sch feel dissed by this. Personally I would rather SCH get glamours over SMN. I want actual huge epic summons, it's what they are iconic for. If they can't bring more summons in the current system. Then axe their current implementation to at least let them cast summons. Casting Deathflare from my hands with no avatar doing that makes it feel more like black mage.
Regarding the announce, do we know if the coulors will be "Egi bound" ?
Like green Carby only for Garuda, red for Ifrit and yellow for Titan or will it be possible for us to have a Garuda/Red Carby ?
Someone talked about this in the french forums and it seems to me to be a relevant question ^^"
Am I the only one who is not impressed with this feature at least on this stage? We wanted Egi glamours to not have our summons look like chibi pokemons and yet we get chibi pokemon glamours. At least the system will be implemented so in the future we can have better skins for egis.
I was wondering about this too. But, the info says you enter a text command so it's entirely possible you can freely choose which one your egi looks like. I'm really hoping it's free choice, because I would love Garuda to take on the appearance of the Ruby carbuncle.
In its current incarnation? Impressed isn't the word I would use. I'll be impressed once they put in the time to give it a proper GUI. Having said that, I'm very happy that they are giving us the work-in-progress version to use until it's a proper feature. I'd much rather have access to this text-based version for a while than not having anything until it's all polished.
In regards to the selection of skins, if Reddit and the forums are to be believed, a HUGE number of people really wanted the ability to use Carbuncles on SMN (and SCH), because they're so cute. Holy crap huge. Anyway, they were also definitely the easiest thing to implement for the first iteration of the system. The trick is going to be animations, because if the skins aren't locked to a specific Egi, they have to animate the glamour for everything that all 3 pets can do (discounting SCH summons, even).
