According to some, they have already made a definitive 100% etched in stone statement. However, the OP's GM conversations show otherwise, with an eventual answer of "No I cannot give a direct answer for you."

In the end it's at the GM's discretion, and harassment requires someone reporting it before a GM even gets involved.

And yet Yoshi's own statement now conflicts with what you claim the GMs have been told. That is why there is ongoing confusion. He said it was ok to sell as long as you weren't charging an exorbitant amount with the intent to profit off the sale (i.e. it's only not allowed if you're using housing as a money making scheme).

Not worth risking ones account. Let it auto demolish. It's a heck of a lot safer.

Advising others it is okay to do it when you lack the conviction to do it yourself or put your own faith to the test is irresponsible. Stop telling others it's okay to do something which could get their accounts banned when your not willing to take such risks yourself. That goes for every other person in here sitting on the sidelines giving the OP false hope that they will not get banned for it despite themselves not willing to put it to the test with their own accounts.

The lack of proper sale system is the cause of all the housing issues. Lack of plots because people don't have a real system to transfer them to other players.

The reclaim system as a whole needs reworking as well tenants in shared estates should reset the timer for example. If you go overs seas on tour your tenants shouldn't lose there house just because you've been away. Had a couple of military friends suffer this. There wives have found there home gone cos hubby's been on tour overseas

They really need to adjust it so tenants reset the timer or implement a proper transfer system so the owner could transfer primary ownership to a tenant before they went overseas

It's not lack of conviction, it's lack of wanting to sell my house(s). So that leaves what, setting up a transaction outside the game and backing out of it, just to prove a point? I would consider selling to a homeless FC, but details would matter.

The lack of plots is due to there not being enough plots, period. The real estate market is a result of it, not the cause.

It's a mistake to think of selling your house as a means to "recoup your losses". This comes dangerously close to the very thing that SE is trying to prevent - folks who buy and sell land for profit, rather than buying for the privilege of owing a house.

You have now owned a home for however long you've owned it for. THAT is your profit, and it's a benefit that many players don't have and would very much like to have. Any profit you make on top of that is gravy.

That said, I don't see any harm in trying to get some of that gravy, if you can find someone with deep enough pockets to afford it. Just remember that on top of your asking price, they'll ALSO need to pay to claim the land themselves once you relinquish. A reasonable price might by what you paid for the plot of land, minus what your customer will have to pay once you give it up (so if you paid 90 million originally, and your customer will have to pay 50 million, charge them 40 million).

It's all a very grey area, though; Yoshi P's proclamation left so much wiggle room that GMs can pretty much interpret things however they want. As others have stated, you might get the best return simply by letting your house expire. Too bad that house reclamation was NOT reinstated with this update:

On the other hand, its not against the rules for someone to 'gift' you with, say, 40 million gil.

And then it wouldn't be breaking any rules for you to relinquish ownership of your house for free afterwards. Totally unconnected to said gift! *wink wink*

From all the posts, this is a hot topic. It is really very simple.

Regardless of all the arguments for and against. There is a very real risk of being banned for selling your lot. If you are willing to take the risk, go ahead and attempt to sell. If not, then don't.

SE will never give us a straight answer and are purposely being vague because of the liabilities involved in being specific. This also allows their GMs to handle things in a case by case basis.

The smart thing to do? Wait for reclamation and get 80% of your gil risk free. Attempting to sell it any other way is a gamble, and don't be indignant or feign innocence if it doesn't go the way you expected.

Them trying resolve issues is really just a service to you. Beyond that, SE reserves the right to terminate your membership at any time for any reason and without notice.

So no auto-demolition until 3.4 now? Maybe they're trying to have apartments going before they restart it so there's alternative if your house gets reclaimed by the server. I really think they've waited long enough to just turn that back on though.

Or maybe they're fed up with people "abusing" the reclaim feature (it was supposed to be only to compensate players who lost their house, not for players to use to get a percentage of their money back just by waiting it out).

Of course naturally if I wanted to get rid of a house I'd also want to get some money back so I'd wait it out too instead of just relinquishing it, but that wasn't what SE wanted.

Maybe they're trying to come up with a way for "you only get the compensation fee back if you also haven't logged in for 45 days" or something like but in a way that stops people from actually unsubscribing...

Or maybe they just really do think more time is needed because of the earthquake.

I have been waiting and waiting to free up my plot so I can bloody move servers, stop forcing us into this system and give us a choice to opt out so we can bloody relinquish our land for the 80% already and let someone else have it!

I'm so annoyed right now, mostly because they never seem to learn... surely someone in the dev team would have thought 'oh lets give them a button to turn auto relinquish back on since we have not provided a system in which players can otherwise make their unwanted plots available for the modest refund or easily sell it on MB/to other players without fear of scam/gouging'

If it is an automated system, why would earthquakes be cause for turning it off? Or is this to protect players affected by earthquakes from losing house?

Its to protect them because they dont have power etc. Which is really nice of SE.

What isn't nice however, is forcing the rest of the player base into it as well. Which lets face it, is really encouraging people to try sell thier plots for lucrative amounts of gil (The buyers point of view) simply so they can free up the plot.

Almost feels like they are making criminals then punishing them (._.)

Pretty sure it started out as that, but my guess is that it has since morphed into a reworking of the system which might still be under development. If it was just a case of waiting a period to support victims of the earthquake it probably would have been switched back on before now or at least other regional servers would have been, they probably took it as an opportunity to work on improving the system while not in use.

But that doesn't make sense. Spending gil on a plot was YOUR choice, there's no reason to get 80% of your gil just because you don't want to have a house anymore.

Well, it makes sense to buy and sell houses actually. And it makes sense to use a system that is in place.
What doesnt make sense is not making a complete system. So we work with what we have.

True I can choose to give up the gil as a loss, but some people have paid say, 200million for a plot that can now be bought for 20 million on some servers (A large) if you were that person, would you ever in your right mind not try for your refund?

Its not just a case of 'you chose to pay' its more like 'you chose to use a system, one that's changed'

SE allowing you to recoup any of your gil is a generous thing, reclamation is a bit like failed crafts sometimes giving you your materials back. Housing is a very limited and highly desired thing which is handled by the SE dictating plot values and not allowing the reselling of them privately.

Both were designed in the way they were to stop people treating housing as a commodity and/or profiting from it. Make no gil if chose to leave, make only some back but not all of it if lose your home not by choice...the punishing people who privately sell too also enforces the idea they do not want you treating it as a commodity. Obviously people are abusing that system to make a portion of the gil back by choice though but that was not it's intended purpose.

Unfortunately then that boils down to saying people who subscribe every month are not allowed to use the housing system that in reality, is freely available to all users.

So... it's only for people who don't sub for 1-2 months for various reasons that may or may not be in their control? I do not think that is logical at all.

In reality its a perk to keep people subscribed.
