You will loose the ability to equip Other classes skills, not the bases class.

I have to agree with Tonkra on this; Why can't we just have both as separate jobs and be done with the discussion? There are hardcore DPS'ers who want to hit hard and not be inhibited in endgame by a wyvern pet nerf and there are people who want the XI-style Dragoon class. Personally I'm on the fence on this one because I loved my wyvern in XI but I don't want to be nerfed because I love being top-tier DPS right now.
It would be easy to write-in as well; something along the lines of a group of Ishgard knights who choose to tame and live along side lighter hearted wyverns against dragons or an elite group of knights who learn to control them. It can be written in without destroying the very foundations is all I'm saying.
Don't make us choose Yoshi :(
Don't want the pet personally, I would rather Dragoon be a really powerful DPS.
Maybe they could make it so that if you summon a pet you lose some of your strength to the wyvern, that way both camps are happy.
Better yet, just grab yourself Beastmaster and go tame a Basalisk or one of those big red lizard things :P
Maybe I like Fairytail too much but thats kinda what I imagine when I think dragoon, have skills like dragon scale armour, dragon breath, dragon talon attack. Much like how blue mage would work except dragoons only can gain skills from dragon creatures
because Yoshi-P asked us for our opinions on having a wyvern or not
The biggest problem in FFXI was keeping the wyvern alive, if this was no issue in XIV i wouldn't mind it. Still I'd rather not have it, just to keep the damage from the dragoon higher.
No, no no a million times NO.
NO EFFING PETS. We don't want XI Dragoons Yoshida, we want REAL Dragoons.
Another vote for NO PET WYVERN!
It seems like there are many people in here "i want to have the most dps" -> [Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.]-> against variety
(sorry to say so, but thats what this discussion seems to be like)
it doesnt mean that all in all a dragoon with wyvern pet would make less damage it would mean, that the drg itself would do a little less dmg than before.
maybe it could mean, that drg+wyvern would make a bit more dmg than drg now after 1.21. on his own.
BUT me... is personally for 2 jobs. one for the wyvern loving community.. and one for the "[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.]" community.
problem solved.
well lancer as it is now is a REAL drg... abillities like "dragon claw" etc.? or is it just me?
wohoo the "jump attack" is missing.. forgot about it
As someone who has loved the Dragoon class since Kain Highwind, my answer is a resounding NO.
I want real Dragoons, high damage and the Jump ability. I've hated pet classes in every single MMO I've used them in, and if Dragoons ended up with a wyvern like FFXI, I'd sadly have to pick another job. Don't listen to those live letter comments alone devs, there are plenty of fans that are perfectly happy, ecstatic even over your current direction with the Dragoon class. Stick to your guns.
Why not have the choice?
You call your Wyvern, you give up some strength or whatever and get your companion.
You dismiss it, your stats get back to normal.
Just gonna mention that doomspike 2 is in essence a jump attack. It may not be unrealistically high, but a lot about this game seem to be keept on a more believable scale.
Same here, no pet wyvern for dragoon please. :D
Just make the job customizable so that you can set a specific group of skills to specialize in pets, or you can set a different set of skills to specialize in DPS.
Builds. Customization. Variety.
If they want to adopt a dragoon aspect from past games then do it like FF4 where Kain could equip 2 lances and Jump for AwesomE DamagE!!! (-ge, -ge, -ge <<echo effect>>)!!!!!
Powerful Jumping Dragoon, it's all I really want! Be different than XI, the DRG should be be able to stand on his/her own and not require a wyvern to fight for them. I want to see my Lance going through enemies from the sky and dealing massive damage!
The only good suggestion I have seen is a second branch of Dragoons, ones that are tied to a wyvern that would deal less damage in combat. Their wyvern would make up the difference via attacks or breath.
Let me reiterate. Dragoon should stand on its own. Here is hoping Yoshi-P makes a smart choice.
Yes to a powerful dragoon job.
No to a pet wyvern.
Thank you.
Seems everyone is in disagree with Dragoon having a mini-wyvern, i include myself,no need to have a pet.
Look at Kain from FF IV...he was so badass without having a pet lol.
There is a reason that Kain still has many many fans, so many years after FF IV was released. We want to be that Dragoon :D
Rather have Dragoon be powerful. I don't want to be gimped by having a pet..that is what SMN and BST are for. Dragoon should be pure DD. Please Yoshi do not gimp Dragoon with a pet!
YES TO THE PET!
It's not even about DPS. It's about not being completely gimped if your rat dies to AoE, it's about knowing that Yoshida already had something in the works for Dragoon involving high-crit moves, it's about the general character of the job being consonant with what the originating class has spent most of its time doing.
If there's a job somewhere down the line with a Wyvern pet? Awesome, more power to them. In the meantime, nobody's interested in recapitulating FFXI's DRG. Been there, done that, hugged the cute little blue dragonling that'll never grow up and look fierce at all.
If the wyvern dies and has a huge recast timer like in FFXI...well id rather not. If they can do it right, in either way aka: a pet that doesnt drop like a stone and has varied uses or making the player have things like breath attacks, then im fine with it. As much as i loved DRG in FFXI, i know the wyverns had some big flaws.
If more DPS = bigger package, then having a dragon pet = fanboi Pokemon dress up party.
When I play a class/job I want to have a specialized role in the party and be the best I can be at it. If I have the choice of doing more crit damage thereby knowing my role and affirming my place in the party OR having a pet that cripples my overall abilities because the devs have to keep re-balancing my class to give me identity in a party... I think I choose option A.
I'm all for having my little pet again if they can make it way better than xi's. More customizeable and more versatile. Maybe even having the power to control it sometimes. Also I want it to grow and to be able to ride it! But I doubt that will happen
No pet for Dragoon.
They will introduce Summoner & Beastmaster eventually. We do not need three f-cking pet jobs, period.
Wyvern was fun, and very convenient for soloing in XI. I would like to have it back, but maybe it's more nostalgia.
In party situations I did not really care about my wyvern, and jobs are supposed to be tuned for party play.
I pass on the pet. I choose power and strength.
I would like to not have a wyvern either. I don't want Dragoons to be the same as in FFXI, even if I did love them to death. But I want a new change of pace!
SO first Yoshia says no main avatars like ifrit what not.. now we might not get a pet for the dragoon class? Whats going on with my pet classes???
Not happy
No Wyvern please. When I started FFXI I was deadset on playing both DRG and PLD--I had just come from several marathon clears of Dynasty Warriors 4 and I'm still a fan of Ma Chao, who's Kain Highwind spraypainted in gold and JUSTICE. When I actually saw how the classes worked though, I almost never played DRG. Having to balance it around the pet weakened what should have been one of the strongest attackers into a class that was ostracized for years.
FFXI had a unique gimmick for DRG, but that was FFXI's gimmick. Let's stick more to a general Final Fantasy theme of Dragoons being strong polearm users that can use Jump and maybe some draconic-themed abilities. No need to put the pet in just because FFXI had it.
Why do I have a feeling that most of you wyvren haters wont even touch lancer/dragoon once samurai comes out or when the DD classes are changed around in .20 :P I'd like to see what plans they have with the wyvren first before I decide.
I'd rather be stronger and have (dragon like / dragon slaying) abilities. Don't get me wrong I love my wyvern in xi, but I don't think it's worth losing power just to have a pet. I'd rather be a really heavy DD.
Maybe if they have the Dragoon without the pet but he can call upon it if he wants to have the pet fight by his side.
When u call ur pet the stats get split and if you dont u remain a powerful dragoon?
maybe dragoon can have a pokeball or something
Why not just have Dragoon summon your pet as a cooldown ability?
3000 TP Cool down timer of 5 minutes, last 1 or 2 minutes. it basically replicates your moves (with a slightly lower dmg maybe 75-90% of your dmg) giving the job considerably amazing chances of being great burst DDing dependent on how long a fight would go for. People get their pets and those that don't want a pet class get to love their pet anyways because of what it's capable of doing.
It won't make dragoons weaker to have a Wyvern on their side. All it does is split your damage, but the total isn't going to change. Why are so many people hung up on seeing big numbers?
Personally I'm a bit disappointed; going by the feedback in this thread, pet dragons probably won't happen.
Last I read, Yoshi had said no pet for dragoon due to balance issues. As much as I'd love to have a pet wyvern, with PvP coming, I'd rather have good class balance than a pet.
