The collaboration was said done because of good connections between Square Enix and Level-5, I doubt it's because they're targeting a specific demographic.

...Really?
Well, time to let my sub lapse for a good year/year and a half.
Nothing wrong with other universe collabs coming in, as long as they fit the overall art style / aesthetics of the game.
The cloud costume? Lightning costume? Sure, they fit..
Clockwork mobs? Yep they fit too...
It's not so much about where they come from, but whether the textures and art style fits with the rest of the game.
Anime/Cartoon flying ghosts with huge cheesy smiles on their faces? Sorry but I can't say I am a fan.. Even the spinning turtle is a bit much for me.
I don't mind a little tiny bit of sillyness (in the form of things like Hildebrand or an event) but we are going to see masses of silly flying anime ghosts with huge smiles on their faces wherever we go.. Can't avoid that even if we tried.
Honestly though, I am fine with the weapons - it's just the mount that I can't stand. The mounts in this game are beginning to get a little over the top / rediculous if you ask me.
I think people are mistaking what is meant by "it doesn't fit". It is less about (IMHO) the "universe" it came from or its silliness and more about the art style. I have no issue with the cross-over, however the artwork when placed in the backdrop of a FF game is very jarring to me. It's like looking at a painting and discovering someone put a sticker on it.
they do, but it's already in the game, so it's not like they gonna remove it.
all the complaining always happen on forum, before release. after release, all the complaints stop, but that doesn't mean everyone suddenly likes it.
ya they could colab with WoW, and throw in murlocs, and it would fit in with Sahagin stuff.
but this yokai crap burns my eyes, like onions.
You will probably find that a lot of the people who don't like this collabs stuff are the same who disagreed with the other stuff as well, so I don't really understand what you are getting at.
Also, the point someone above made about ffxiv taking a mostly "realistic styling" over a kiddy anime, styling it a point that kind of hits the heart of it. At least the mog weapons have something to do with final fantasy.
And tbh, while bikinis and afros can be used to make goofy outfits, they aren't actually goofy themselves, kiddy cartoon animal head weapons on the other hand are.
I'm one of those people who feel like they don't fit at all (which doesn't mean that I'm not totally in love with how adorable the SCH book is <3) and it has nothing to do with how stuff comes from a different game, anime or whatever.
The XIII stuff fits because the art style is pretty similar to the overall FFXIV style. It's somewhat realistic-looking with a touch of fantasy magic and/or steampunk. The dreadnaught and the like fit that theme exactly.
The Yo-kai Watch weapons and mount look cartoonish and 2Dish and therefore completely different in art style which is why I feel they don't fit in well. I'm always happy we get new stuff, but wish it was something more fitting the game.
We only have that kind of style in one place in FFXIV, and that's in form of minions. I would have been fine with that solution, but feel like this doesn't have a place in FFXIV :/
It doesn't fit. Have you actually seen that mount? It's hideous. I for one will not do the event and will actually blacklist anyone i see with that mount or any of the pokemon out.
The minions more or less fit the game, but the weapons, especially the mount do not.
If they're going this route, then I hope the devs will also do more collaboration events with some western games (unlikely)
Glad they decided to waste dev time on this instead of work on modeling some new gear sets. I'm guessing next patch is going to be allot of reskins.
How about FF 9 then?

You mean the new dungeons won't have new gear and the new gear coming for crafters/gatherers is a lie? My mind has been blown. And since I wanna argue schematics, the Yokai-Watch weapons are new gear technically!
Me and my FC beat Bahamut with all of us wearing an afro.
This was obvious and yes you are extremely biased. I would venture a guess and say you didn't like FFXIII as well.
The FF series has always looked to it's past for inspiration and it's something many long time fans enjoy about it. That being said it makes perfect sense for an ancient empire with advanced technology beyond anything else the world has ever seen to have clockwork automatons. Can you seriously question that? (besides being upset they were taken from the most divisive FF game to date?)
The Yokai watch crossover IS out of place, no less so than if everyone got Pokemon minions. But at the end of the day all it's going to amount to is a few strange minions and glamour weapons, except for the Whisper mount that is going to look so crazily out of place that it would look more natural if they just gave out Pigeots and Fearows.
The whisper mount? Please, I view it as Godbert Manderville and Cid Garlond getting together and making something really outlandish to delight the children for the next Starlight Celebration. Its something the two of them, especially Godbert, would make. I wouldn't be surprised if Godbert didn't have a toy store somewhere in Ul'dah, and Cid is already known to make wind-up dolls and sell them.
The warrior of light can't be eccentric? Well maybe not your warrior of light, but people are people. I'm sure most of us have encountered that one person that made you shake your head and go what the.....
The point is, Is this gear out of place? No. Not anymore than using Glowing Musical Mogfists to lay low Bahamut, or Half if not more the glamours we see every single day.
This breaks my RP immersion!
Have you considered there could be, or a story can be made to compensate for Booger Butt? (If this is your name I very much apologize, I made it up on the fly.)
Booger Butt was not always known by his name. It happened a few moons back on a balmy summer's evening. He was one of many adventures that had gathered to slay the Primal Titan. It just happened that his chocobo had taken a wiff of the La Noscean Daffodils that dotted the mountain side just south of Camp Overlook. There was a very loud Kwehhhh wooooo and his posterior was met with the expulsion of the chocobo's sinuses. His Company never let him live the moment down and have since called him no more than Booger Butt.
Why would an adventure have a weapon like the Yo-kai watch ones? Well remove Yo-Kai watch, that doesn't exist in Eorzea. So why would an adventure have a weapon like this in general?
Well, They're a toy lover and had a weapon commissioned to resemble one.
Perhaps though an imp thought it would be funny to glamour their weapon to look that way.
Perhaps, from an RP stand point, a mischievous or scornful mage enchanted the weapon that it would look that way to everyone, except your character.
There are countless ways a weapon like these can appear in a world like Eorzea.
The challenge to any RP community, Not just you Balmung, is to figure out how to incorporate these items into your individual RPs. Its not impossible, its actually ridiculously simple. Children exists, Toy makers (Godbert, Cid, Beatin, and a few others for sure canonically) out there, you have a large amount of content to work with. Use it, because these weapons and mount are coming, whether you like it or not and they need not break the 4th wall.

I smiled when I first saw the Juggernauts in Azyz Lla. I love any event, too. They're fun and have rewards.. and they're optional.
As I said prior the "new gear" we get in the new dungeons is likely to be reskins of old gear now due to resources being put into these oddball items.
Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the people who want these or think they are cool or whatever. They just are certainly not my cup of tea and would have prefered they spent the resources elsewhere.
That's actually a really interesting bit of information I must have glossed over. I just wish they did a crossover event with something more my style but what can you do?
Inspiration = recycling?
And also, no, I don't mind XIII, don't go making assumptions about people you don't know on the internet.
All I'm pointing out is that those two enemies are part of XIII's world in XIV they are just here as Allagan technology because XIV dev team couldn't design their own monsters, stuff like Sephirot, King Thordan, etc are clearly homages.
And again, with people thinking I hate technology in FF games? Where's everyone getting this from?
I've stuck with the series for a long ass time, I don't care and I love sci-fi stuff in fantasy settings.
Recycling monsters is a staple. Whole hog ripping the models from previous games isn't a staple.
Play any Final Fantasy game and monsters will look similar but rarely will they look the exact same. the FFXI monsters they recycle are clearly using the same skeletons and textures as their FFXI counterparts it's uncanny, the only thing they don't bring over is the mobs skillset they keep the move names sometimes but nerf the effects for the purposes of this game. Bommtoss for example is just a thing that does AOE damage now instead of something to be feared.
No? I don't remember too many Final Fantasy games that rip nearly everything from the previous game though.
Final Fantasy VI's entire bestiary was not in Final Fantasy V. Nice cherry picking though.
The whole point of this thread was to say that this Yokai watch stuff is nothing to get butt hurt about for being out of place because creatures from the last 3 games, some of them being a core part of some game's lore also appear as generic enemies and no one bats an eyelid. So no need to get upset over a throwaway event breaking your immersion.
That has nothing to do with her argument though. She was saying that those are out of place in this game, so childs cartoon weapons are ok as well. They aren't out of place because bringing back enemies is a staple of FF games. The reuse of models has no bearing on this discussion as far as I can see, and is better reserved for its own discussion.
