I would switch to this werewolf race so fast superman would be jealous.

You wanna new races? Here you go:
Viera
-> That hare-like race from FFXII
-> Bodyheight like male Au Ras and Elezen
-> Style like previous FFXIV concept arts
Allagear
-> Robotic/cyborg-like allagan race
-> Glowing bodyparts in different colors
-> Trusters/Boosters at the back/legs while running
Centaur
-> Horse-like humanoid race (hoofs instead of feet)
-> Bodycolour in different colors (obviously xD)
-> Ears, long Tail, Backhair (like Aion)
To be honest, I would love to see more race which arent just some modified Hyur with wings. Au Ras for example are pretty cool, but I think, they still look to Hyur-like. Thats why I loved the previous concept arts of them (which made them look pretty badass). I would also love to change my Au Ras lower body into a Lamia (half-human, half-snkae) ones, but thats just my personal preference ^^.
If anything this game needs LESS is humanoids with animal parts. We already have those. For once i'd love to see a non-humanoid race. One thing Blizzard did right with races is variety and that is never a bad thing.
I think the main concern about more Beast-like races (not the example from the OP), is how to work them into the plot. Right now, a large part of the plot deals with the "human" races' interactions with the Beastmen. There is a clear divide between the two, both from a physical sense and from a spiritual sense (i.e. the Beastmen's connections to the primals).
While I would personally enjoy a playable beastman-like race, it'd be very hard to explain why this race of beastmen is treated completely differently than the others. For example, in Ul'Dah all beastmen are banned from City grounds. You'd have to be like "We ban all beastmen...except for that type, because they're cool I guess". The game's early plot deals almost exclusively with human and beastmen interactions, so I don't see how they can just add a playable one.
That's not to say I wouldn't like to see more variety between the races, but I think the plot thus far has kind of forced all races (at least for the time being), into being more "human" than inhuman.
That said, I'm all for cute harpy girls!
I would love more bestial races but you've seen their answer for new races. We got nothing like what was the initial concept art for Au Ra and we got a more tame finished product to the point the discussion probably went like this:

That's more or less how it went. Shame, early Au-ra designs were much more interesting.
Even if we did get, say Viera, it wouldn't be this:

But more like this:

It is curious the note that instead of the Au Ra concept they went with a concept dubbed as the Dragon template ergo cute horns as ears dragon girl. Similarity is particularly apparent with the female gender. What a farce. Insult to injury when they claim that the race is of Voidsent and I guess Hyur origin.
I still play WoW sometimes and I know that people were drawn to Blood Elves for their lore and the fact that they looked more human than the humans did (the men, anyway). But the beast races in that game are still fairly popular. I don't see as many Goblins or Pandaren but I see a few Worgen here and there and a lot of Tauren and Trolls.
Heck the female Draenei are very popular. They're like a somewhat more visually interesting Au Ra. I'd settle for something like them, they're very pretty but still beast-like.

Just to add to this and...rain on the parade for those wanting non-humanoid races. They will not add a race that is anything other than a bipedal being with an upright posture and two upper limbs and a head. The simple reason being their gear models. If you added a quadruped, you'd have to completely redo a huge amount of gear. Not only that but there are lore reasons, as at least one poster has mentioned.
However, I'll go back to the reason I was talking about. The ability to relate to a new race in a game such as this is important. There is no question that some players would have no problem identifying with whichever type of playable race takes their fancy, be it beastly, electronic or biomechanical, with 4 legs, 2 legs, wheels or thrusters. However the vast majority of players will not identify with such playable races. If you take into account the significant amount of effort a new race requires along with the marathon task of modifying the gear models, which would be even more for 'different' races, I just don't think it's possible to make a case for such a playable race. The same thing goes for races that do not heavily feature handsome males and pretty females.
Generally speaking heroes are handsome/pretty, charismatic characters. I frequently see people wondering about a new race that would be conventionally speaking, considered unattractive, beastly, and generally speaking unsympathetic. Such races would be so niche as to make even the rarest female Roegadyn look popular.
What we need is not another race (though cute/handsome humanoids with white wings and a noble disposition would not hurt the game IMHO... ;) ), rather we need one or two additional faces (and features) for all current races to give a bit more variety and flexibility to character design.
Glaring needs for existing races....eyebrows for Highlanders, Highlander females need better complexions, both Au'ra and Miqo'te females need a face that looks old enough to vote and drink...
I really like these designs the best. Honestly it would even fit pretty well into the game to have something beast-likish but humanoid. It would look nothing like Miqo'te/Viera/Au'Ra..
Well, actually that is proven wrong. When EQ2 released the Fae and Arasai people were stumped that they couldn't fly. When they made them flyable by their own wings people didn't complain at all and in fact liked the changes. However they can only fly in areas other people can fly due to not being enough Wind.
If they had unique legs but two arms and a head. It wouldn't be so much work. You can just have the wings stick out from the armor and take away instead of add.
Harpy with wings around arms:
What you do, is instead of remodeling all arm armor in the game. You simply add pieces to the wings for cloth that make it look like its cutting out from the armor. So it isn't hard to do and you can keep the armor model completely the same.
The legs are what will need some work, but dresses and all that can stay the same.
However, I would want them to go for the more beastly look with the arms and legs like Garuda, that would be EXTREMELY interesting.
Indeed, wearable 'mounts' would resolve this issue in every meaningful way. There would be no need to rework the gear models or physics, and as you point out it would not polarize players - a huge vote in it's favor. Wearable 'mounts' would also allow for a continual provision of different styles of wing, tail or other aspect of the 'mount', and in grounded areas, they could 'hover' like the bomb chair and Ahriman (for example).
Clipping issues are already a problem. With this, clipping complaints would be off the scale. As for a more beastly look, I think that is simply too niche to work.
Every other major MMO has gotten beast races to work in terms of armor. Armor is done with textures and anchor points, it's not a complete remodeling of every piece of gear.
I've been saving my free fantasia for this reason only. Depending how they make the new avian race, I'd change my male hyur, kept the same since official ffxiv:arr launch, to a male avian race the second it comes out.
Humanoid races are always the most played races, that's a fact but implying there would be no demograph for non-human races is nonsense. You can feel what you want about Warcraft but it's a good example of race variety and its player base playing them for years now.
http://www.warcraftrealms.com/census.php
When it comes to rigging new models, texture mapping, weighting new gear models on characters and what have you, i'm sure they (SE) can handle a less traditional race than what we have now.
While an avian race would be really awesome, some restrictions to keep in mind:
1) The race will be mainly humanoid, so no you won't get bird legs or taloned feet for simplicity in adjusting gear between races.
2) The race would NOT have large wings, these would be hard to model around and would indicate actual ability to fly - not something that they'd want to insinuate because flying is high level zones only and mount-based. Even if the new race COULD fly, they'd be restricted to Aether currents though and there would be irritation that the new race can fly without a mount and they'd want to too.
That being said, there are options to be more avian while being mainly human that would be unique and interesting, such as:
Feathered Eyelashes:

Feathered Ears:
Feathered accents on wrists or ankles:

MAYBE Small feathered wings and/or tail:
Why not? I mean I don't see an issue with that. It could be a high level quest, maybe the race doesn't learn to fly until they are more experienced? PLENTY of things you can do.
I would not actually play the race myself, I am sticking to Miqo'te, however if they got a special ability to fly and I didn't? WHO CARES?! That is cool! Why would I care if I didn't get that? Maybe you can give every race something unique and cool "non-combat".
Give the game "True Night" and give Keepers/Dark Elezen/Dark Lalafell Night Vision.
They would still need to learn the Aether currents like everyone else, or they couldn't fly anyways!
This is why this game will never be anything other then just a game, player limitations set by players themselves.
Instead of a Chocobo, when they learn to ride one they can float on the ground and fly a little above ground, which would be cool!
Ahriman can already "fly" above ground and is a ground mount. That can work for this race too, then when they are more experienced (higher level zones.) they can fly in them when they learn the aether currents.
EDIT: I apologize, and replied to your entire post. I can say though whilst your ideas are COOL, and I would love to see all them because they are... Wings are a must, because that would be super unique and it is NOT hard to do in an MMO. The developers have more space to work with now.
Intricate armor is still fitted with anchor points. But let's pretend that the intricate models really do mean we can never, ever, ever have a beast race shaped like a beast. They could still go the Elder Scrolls Online route and have beast races with humanoid body shapes but non-human heads and tails.

I know it was the only (and easiest) way Blizzard could think of to save the Horde, but it doesn't make me any less resentful of what they did to the faction. It also didn't help that Blood Elves made over 50% of the population for two expansions.
You're delusional if you truly believe the Horde being over 50% Blood Elves for both The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King had anything to do with their story, though.
I don't think I need to explain why there is a substantial amount of Worgen and Tauren (most of them male, by the way).
Especially when you take into consideration the demographic that tends to play those two races.
They're humanoid enough and designed in such a manner that a large amount of people do find them sexy despite their bestial features.
This, however, seems to apply only to their females though.
Blizzard has ALWAYS gone out of their way to make sure the females of their races had some sex appeal. Reason they got roadblocked with Ogres for Cataclysm, because even their notorious ability of making female characters have some sex appeal did not work for them at the time, so they went over to the less challenging Goblins.
Oh I can see what you mean, but I doubt they'd be large enough to be functional, unless the race is really small. If they do have the race be winged, it'd be like the Windians in Breath of Fire, they'd have wings but they no longer have the ability to actually fly. If they did fly or hovered (like moogles or Sylph) it'd be rather odd for them to NEVER land, and having big flapping wings all the time would be pretty ridiculous next to other races.
Please explain. All I can think of is that Worgens look badass and Taurens look goofy and are a great inspiration for bad puns. Somehow I don't think that's what you meant.
I had two Worgens back when I played WoW. Both were male because a dog face and sex appeal just doesn't work together as the female worgen showed. I like the race because they look menacing, have funny animations (backflipping wolves are epic), can shapeshift into humans, sprint and run on all four (racial "mount" spell). They are also super tall and weapons look big on them.
Heh, all this talk is making me miss the racial differences in WoW. Like how my Nelf could slip into shadows, my Draenei could heal and how my Pandaren could roll. I wish we had that here even if it was just cosmetic like wings for flying, Sprint on all fours, an out-of-combat transformation or a racial emote. If everyone has something there wouldn't be a reason for petty jealousy. I feel it would add to the identity of races.
They could just squish the muzzle into the plate helmet like it was never there, kind of like how half of femroe boobs get chopped off / sent into another dimension in certain tops. Not bitter at all.
There are enough helms that could work with a muzzle in FFXIV (hoods, head bands, crowns, certain types of masks, goggles and glasses etc). Full face plate might not work but that is true of any MMO with muzzled races. Honestly I would accept a muzzle even knowing that face plate would never not look goofy as hell.
Not entirely. Change their feet to be more like a Lalafells (or {other race}) and then you'd have an accurate vision of the XIV Viera. They'll only have rabbit ears and everything else that made Viera 'unique' will not be present (so less than what the Au Ra have).
The Furry Fandom.
Not everyone who plays a Pandaren, Tauren, or Worgen are part of that, of course... but that particular demographic does make up a good chunk of the population that plays them because they do find them to be visually appealing (and a good deal of them even find them to be sexy, whether or not you yourself can see the sex appeal).
I don't really know anything about the reasoning for our women not having bums anymore.
If SE does NOT fit armor with anchors then they should consider doing so, it would make their life a lot less annoying. Although it might lead to further clipping issues especially while they figure it out.
I don't work for SE so I don't know how they do it, I just know how many other companies do it.
(But if fem'qote get their butts back then male Elezen need bums too. For uh. Fairness. Yeah.)
Maybe I am sheltered or ignorant but in my decade of playing WoW most people I know who favor beast races do so because they're something different. Furries are no doubt a thing but enjoying a beast race because it's cool and more visually interesting than human-like character X does not a furry make.
People seem to cry "Furry!" whenever anyone mentions beast races anywhere. (And even if someone IS a Furry goodness who cares? Let them keep on keeping on they're not hurting anyone)
Oh, I'm not disagreeing with how you say others implement it, and I am certain more than a few people, including myself, have asked similar questions about gear modeling in the past in other topics. However SE chose to implement player character skeletons and skins along with gear models and meshes to maximize movement and minimize clipping, one thing that they are clear on, the reason for the disappearing curves is gear modeling. As such, I'm certain this would present them great difficulty when it comes to more beast-like player character races.
Well I'll give them this much: The clipping issues certainly exist in this game but they're much less severe than World of "My everything clips through my shield" Warcraft which does use anchor points. If beast shapes are a problem then I can settle for a human body type, I just want to see beastly heads and tails. It might make some helmets not work on some races but I can live with that.
And I need to stress that I actually really like the current playable races! More variety in a MMO is just always nice.
No, I know you said that I just get twitchy when people bring it up. I play beast races a lot because they're cool to me not because I think they're attractive but if people ARE attracted to 'em? That's fine.
What gets me is on the WoW forums and Internet in general whenever anyone asks for a playable beast race (The Arakkoa for example) everyone cries "Furry" as if that were an inherently bad thing to be and then the conversation just sinks and devolves from there. Every time.
It's like it's own version of Godwin's Law.
I'm not offended by it I'm just tired of it.
Understandable.
I enjoy beast-like races as well, to be honest, without being part of that particular fandom so I know it's possible to like said races without being in it. Unfortunately, people tend to automatically lump you in with them for desiring to play anything but a human looking humanoid. It's worse in their forums because it's a larger cesspool than these forums.
I played mostly Pandaren (when they were released) and you'd be surprised how many people, both of the fandom and not, lumped me in with it.
Trying to find some good examples.. a lot of them have nudity! >_<
What of any of this pictures screams furry?
