I was thinking the same thing. I find it leary we've seen no dungeon preview set. Leads me to believe were getting token drops for old gear.

They don't always show the dungeon gear ahead of time. Sometimes it's previewed in the Preliminary Patch Notes (which we should get tomorrow), and sometimes we don't see it at all beforehand.
I'd expect new gear simply because the new dungeons will likely be i200 or so, and the only gear that would fall into that item level would be Esoterics gear, which will still be purchasable at the tome vendors.
That happened once. And it was in 2.1, never since then have they not made unique sets for dungeons. + We've seen a ton of new glamours in trailers and previews so I for one am holding my hat to the new dungeon gear :D
Regardless I very much like the look of my tank Midas gear, Lore gear is kinda eh, not bad but it messes with my ocd that we've either had unique gear sets or shared with drg's, now all of a sudden we're sharing a look with mnk o.o
I'm really curious why Caster DPS didn't get Ramuh inspired gear. I mean, talk about the perfect primal for it.
This is actually incorrect. It did happen once, but it was actually in 2.4—Snowcloak, Sunken Temple HM, and Sastasha HM dropped tokens for the i90 Myth (AF+1) sets.
The dungeons added in 2.1 and 2.2 had new sets in addition to dropping older sets that were at the same item level (the ones from 2.1 were mostly recolors, but they did have some modifications).
I played GLA/PLD since day 1, and now I have a DRK 60 and WAR 58, and I tell you: Tanks are OPs right now and I think lower Tank dps is a fair thing.
Solo content (fates/side quests/main quests/job quests/leves): Tanks can kill things almost as fast as dpss, plus survive a lot longer and deal with 2 or 3 enemies at once. Dpss can't.
Party content (primals, dgns, raids): Outside dps checks, we don't have ANY reason to bring a dps to party content. You can go with 6tanks and 2healers and clear any content ( again, outside dps checks). If you do a party with 6 dps and 2 healers, everyone will die eventually. 0 chances to clear any content.
Now, with tank dps Nerf, tanks survivability will suffer in solo content (will take longer to kill something, so: Taking more damage and OOR (out of resource) pretty fast).
For group play, OOR resources too, for both healers and Tanks.
Yeah, I do agree it would be better to raise dps survivability than lower tank dps, but, for the sake of classes balance, this nerf will be a real balance.
#IMO :p
Yeah. It's not a hate statement. It's just what I would do if I was them. It's easy to code and fixes the problem of making a gear style that is singular in nature attainable in a easy way. As much as it would rub some the wrong way, it is an elegant and simple solution to a problem that would have to be coded some abstract way otherwise.
Darklight was added to dungeons that also had new sets because it was the same item level as that dungeon. In addition to dropping the Darklight gear, Lost City/Brayflox HM/Halatali HM dropped the Protector's, Hussar's, Fistfighter's, Shikaree's, Magician's, and Pilgrim's sets, all of which were new at the time.
Since the new dungeon gear is most likely going to be i200, it will most likely drop new sets. It's rather unlikely that we'll see them alter the item level of the Yasha/Asuran gear to make it fit the dungeon—that's something they've done very rarely.
Instead, it'll likely be added to Centurio Seals (which mirrors what they did with Soldiery gear when it was made unavailable through Tomes) or perhaps made available in something like Fractal/Neverreap through tokens, to help fresh 60s gear up.
It's still only happened once. While they added preexisting gear to the 2.1/2.2 dungeons, those dungeons also got new sets at the same time (they dropped two sets for each role). The only dungeons that didn't get new sets at all were the Snowcloak series in 2.4.
Moving it to Centurio isn't difficult either—they just put new items on the vendor's list. Modifying the item levels means they have to modify both the Yasha and Asuran gear, as there will be characters that have both pieces. If they move them to the Centurio vendor, all they have to do is move the Yasha stuff, as the upgrade items to make them Asuran come from the same vendor already.
They're not going to put Law gear in dungeons, that would make no sense. The only instance where that happened (2.4) was when the ilevel of said pieces (i90) were higher than the gear set of the previous patch dungeons (i80). With 3.1 set being i185, the new set will probably be i200 at most.
Honestly though, the burden of meeting dps checks should fall entirely on the dps roles, not looking to the healers/tanks (which is what we see in gordias) to pump out the extra damage. The damage that a DD job can bring isn't that much higher than what warrior or healers are capable of in a ideal setting, and devalues the DD's role all that more.
Oh, sure, that takes time. But that's...the whole job of the art team. They don't do any of the other work on the game, and they haven't had to design any more sets than they've usually done, so it's likely that we'll be getting a new set following established patterns.
In reference to the discussion about tank dps nerfs.... I know there are plenty of tanks and healers that do great dps and want to carry content while doing the work of two different jobs and can and kudos to them.
But what I see most often is a person that makes a scholar or a warrior specifically just to dps then joins content and doesn't want to heal or tank but is constantly wanting to be praised on their dps.... (If you hear them say something like "I'd prefer you just solo heal/tank" it's probably a bad sign) Then the group wipes repeatedly and all those individuals will talk about is how their dps is so good and if the rest of the party's dps was better we wouldn't wipe....
Um.... we are all dead .... it wasn't a enrage mechanic there... The boss spun around and melee'd us all to death, one by one....very slowly... He killed the dps jobs first, one at a time, slowly, painfully, he clearly liked to watch them suffer... He forced the healers to watch *HE MADE THEM WATCH* It was only their sweet mercy that the healers didn't heal them. No one wants to live having known such hell. Death was but a mercy to the healers when it was finally their turn.... The tank he saved for last. The boss toyed with him him. Tried to make him think that maybe there was some chance for escape.... But the tank stood strong and calm as if the boss's plot made no impact. The tank didn't know the despair that should be befalling him. He didn't know his party was already..... in fact... dead(He was a little bit dense).
I do love how the new midas gear set looks. I kinda thought the healer one was the best, though I know someone said they didn't like it. It's a hoodie! :P I have mixed feelings about the eikons armors. They look neat but would have been cool if they didn't all like share like 3-4 eikons. I empathize that it probably would have taken more time to make them all unique. I just wish they could hire a few more people if that's the reason.
I expect that the new gear will be i195, so it doesnt make the ESO gear completely useless to get, but still alows people to gear up alternate classes. But since we already have i200 VA gear, maybe the dungeon gear will be i205.
When I run WHM I have terrible tanks. When I run Bard and use Foe, the WHM jumps around. When I tank, my dps doesn't Aoe on big pulls. Bad players will be bad, that goes without saying. The current stigma on why healers and tanks need to dps heavily is because of Savage, nothing more. The DPS race in dungeons will always be there, so long as speed runs exist. So keep pumping out as much as you can as your healer, because that meta will never change (in dungeons).
i200 is about as high as they would go, I think, though I think i195 is also likely. The part of me that loves structure is going to be forever annoyed that we went from i160 dungeon gear to i185 dungeon gear and now to either i195 or i200 dungeon gear though. The stages aren't equal and it's going to eat away at me. ;_;
Just guessing but...
?
*New Dungeons: i190-195 (dungeon drops are fond of odd number ilvls lately. It's not going to be higher than Void Ark I'd imagine.)
*Midas Normal: i215 (im not sure on this one but I'm sure they'd want it be worth going so it's got to be higher than current savage 1-4, if not much)
*New crafted: i210 (crafted in the past made you decide between using tomes to buy mats to craft with or just straight up buying almost as good gear with crafted being many many times more the cost to attempt to make one... and it not being much of a difference. All that said, with a unlocked alexander 1-4 and echo, I imagine the upgrade dips and coats will get easier to obtain even without void ark.)
*Eikonic "weathered" i220 (we don't think we'd get away without having to upgrade these do we?)
*Midas savage and upgraded eikonic: i230 It could be higher, but I'm saying it's safely this or higher.
Does the normal Sephirot trial have gear?
Historically the "normal" versions of Primals didn't really give gear since they were tied to main scenario but since this is treated as a separate thing, think we'll see like accessories or something?
Sephirot's weapon will most likely be i210 or i215. The first EX primal of a raid tier normally provides a "catch up" weapon that people can use to get started on the new raid if they didn't do the last one.
The Primal in 3.3 will likely give an item that's 10 item levels or so below the Midas Savage weapon.
I know 3.2 is just about to come out, but I also am not familiar with the patch cycle for this game yet. How many months will it be (ballpark guess) until 3.3? I'm excited for some changes that Yoshi-P mentioned for 3.3 and was just curious when it is likely to come about.
