I think the Devs understand perfectly, they just either can't implement it or don't want to. >3>

I'll let them know my suggestion.
Rethink your decission developers, unless you want to give us a better answer as to why this cannot be done (it would be too much work/data/blah blah blah). maybe I've been spoiled by hearing other developers talk about their games in a more open manner than I'm used to be in this day and age in a evolving game like a MMO the community wants to feel more involved in this kind of stuff instead of being given a nebulous answer like.
"We currently have no plans"
All this means is that the answer is not a flat out no and it's by track record never going to happen for unknown reasons.
Is the game really that bursting at the seams with item data that adding a more robust glamor system would tear it apart?
If that's the case why is that? are the servers substandard?
If so why aren't new ones worked with?
If it's cost why is it expensive when your raking in money hand over fist from cash shop transactions and subscriptions?
If funds are being siphoned from the game to Square Enix's project be transparent with us!
I really dislike when the developers are mum on this stuff. It's just hard to accept that it's not possible when the game is popular enough to be pulling in a tidy profit, I'm not even mad at the developers but the higher ups who decide what kind of budget They get to see.
If it's none of that then what to we the players need to do to make the developers "Plan" to work on this? How are we supposed to give them our opinion on what we feel is a right and wrong direction to move the game forward. Do people have to quit and make the developers wonder why people are leaving and not have us to give them the feedback as to why?
When was the last time the developers actually reached out to the community for real suggestions and not cherry picked ones they have obviously already been working on?
I'd still love to have hoods and masks, I'd rock a black hood and a skull mask if one ever got added.
Most likely the same reason why the got rid of the visible waist item.
You could use the slot of earrings for glasses (or other ornaments face), and the slot necklace for cape.
Why is it so hard to understand the first portion of the dev's post: "While we currently have no plans to add an additional slot for glamours..." ?
They're trying to offer a compromise due to the way they have made the game. And you're telling them you don't want it. Well, then be happy with nothing.
Im sorry why is it so hard for them to do this but MANY other games have much easier and broad glamour systems? Why would they design something knowingly they might have issues. Its 2016 and this is just another "limitation" of MANY in this game. We already have plenty of character customization issues as is.
Honestly I feel like the main reason they can't do it is bc of some type of limitation, if they could they probably would since glamour > so thiz is a compromise.
Idm if they add face/hat things but I hope they also add the two items separately bc personally I don't wear glasses or anything but might like the hat.
I never saw this post all those months ago but YES. That is an example of what I wanted.
Secondly, I did not expect a community rep to come back and respond to this thread of all things more than 5 months later!
Still although their answer was disappointing, it wasn't a "No it's impossible". We may have a chance to see it in 4.x
I would always have my character wear glasses. She looks cute with them, but some of the head gear looks good when pulling together a look. (that and I'm darn near blind IRL)
Glamour wasn't added until 2.2 and from I can gather they didn't originally plan to have glamouring, it was bolted on later after we requested it so much. So to sort of answer your question, they didn't knowingly create a system with expansion issues, it just wasn't in there from the start, so now they're trying to work around the framework they have.
And although we always hate it, it probably was Playstation 3 restrictions meant that framework was pretty inflexible and causes problems to adjust it later.
But isn't that an even bigger case of creating a system with expansion issues? In a modern MMO, either glamour or at the very least a plan for how glamour would be added, really should have been in there from the start. It's not as though people's desire for it should have come as any surprise.
I love this game. It's a lot of fun. But it seems like every problem with it comes down to stuff they have a hard time fixing because they'd failed to anticipate easily predictable stuff. Yes, they have to work within the framework they have, but they built that framework, and it's rather disconcerting that working within it seems to cause difficulty with just about everything.
Honestly i'm not surprised anymore it's pretty much a running joke nothing new will be added because of "server limitations" sorry but i don't buy it, straight up lies or just being lazy.
Harsh viewpoint but that's what happens when you see the same excuse over and over.
They couldn't do different face/different horns due to memory limits on ps3, just like they had to move the party bonus & Tp bars don't show numbers. It is all memory limits bc of the ps3.
It's the exact same here I am sure.
They literally CAN'T do it(they prolly could but you'd have to sacrifice something else in return so it will be within the limitations)
Jynx - It's like you're inside my head. I've always felt exasperated that SE are so secretive about everything. Much of what they don't tell us has no commercial value to anyone so it's not like they're giving out company secrets. Just tell us the details when something goes wrong, what it was & why. We will respect you more, not less! That applies to everything, like server limitations, the graphical situation, et al.
Sadly them doing so would make them more accountable and it's something they obviously want to avoid. I mean if they tell us the servers are garbage and that's the reason why then players will clamor for better servers.
Those cost money and they are a business they want to not spend any money if at all possible. It makes sense, doesn't make it fun to be on the consumer side. They use smoke and mirrors and loosley worded phrases like "Not at this time" so they can get players to cling to hope that someday they will be heard.
I also would love to see the Shield slot used for other kind of back pieces like a backpack or a gobbiebag etc. It shouldn't be too difficult to implement, considering that most of jobs don't even use that slot anymore. Just figure out how to make Paladin not pull it out like a shield when engaging.
While I am a bit sad and more than a little upset that we got the generic "We have no plans for it at this time" answer, I'll do what Luxpheras said and offer my suggestions. Granted, I DO think that with the current restrictions with memory allocation space and the existing programing framework, if we want this to happen in the short term, we have to be willing to either sacrifice a glamor slot or do as Luxpheras said, give suggestions so the devs can make head pieces that fit the demand. BUT given enough time and demand, I do think the dev team should be able to find a way to make a "Face gear slot" and maybe even bring back the waist gear slot.
So going with the first option - an alternative option: A bit ago, some one mentioned making glasses for the ear slot. I like this suggestion as resources for this idea are already present (the actual models, etc). To take this idea a bit further, Maybe make alternate versions of glasses so that there is one set of glasses that 'head slot gear' and another version that are 'ear slot gear'. This way we have the option of have both a hat/ head piece equip with a pair of glasses, but at the cost of seeing earrings. And while I can't speak for everyone, I'd rather be able to have glasses/ eye wear and hats on at the same time than earrings (I don't think we even see the earrings most of the time unless we looking straight at another player form close up).
Second, but less prefered option, tell the devs the kind of combinations we want:
- My biggest with is a top hat that can be worn by any class or Job with a monocle.
- Second, is a top hat that can be worn by any class or Job with a mask like the one on the harlequin hat.
- Pair up the Elegant Rimless Glasses with cavalier hats, wedge hats, and fedoras
- Pair up monocles with Wedge hats
- Pair up Goggles with the fedoras, flat caps, and scarves.
- Pair up sunglasses and shades with scarves
- And for the sake of all that is decent devs, PLEASE be careful on what gets dyed! I would personally prefer that the glasses are the primary thing that changes color (and may the hear gear's trim if it has it), but if both the glasses and head gear are dyed, it would likely look overwhelming.
Thanks for reading and I hope to see a follow up to the responses in this thread in the (relatively near) future.
While I agree with some of your sentiments, why do they have to validate why they are not doing something you ask for? They choose to use language as "We currently have no plans" because they do not want to shut the door on some idea and then backtrack on it as other games have done recently. While I would love them to be more transparent with design choices (hell even XI has a developer forum that gives content that they may or may not be working on and a general timeline of how the work is being done. That being said, we do not have a fundamental right to know exactly what they are working on and honestly i do not really want to. Being surprised by new content additions is a major part of the fun of an MMO.
As for the thread itself... I would much rather they use their resources for other improvements to the game. New character customization options would be most appreciated. We have a ton of hair, but how about new faces/eyes/lips/tattoo options? How about more gear customization options? Adding a secondary dye channel would make a hell of a lot more people happy in the game. Even if you had to craft a new dual color dye in order for it to work.
YoshiP has already indicated that PS3 support will more than likely end with 4.0 so I do not really see this as an issue.
Although I would much rather have them work on a few more actual faces for every race than worry about another gear slot I have to worry about. FOUR faces aren't enough, give us 4 more for each.
Well easily predictable does seem harsh to me, but to be honest with you, I agree completely it does seem like things could have been predicted better. We don't really know the circumstances at the time though and the original game (2010) didn't have glamours and I don't know if that was a big thing in many games back then (I don't play other MMOs), but even with the relaunch in 2013, they were likely under a lot of pressure to get a decent game out ASAP and maybe corners were cut to meet deadlines or maybe the PS3 really is that limited.
I've never written anything for a PS3, so I'm not really familiar with its limitations, but it does seem that although initially one of its strengths was to have multiple platform support, it does seem to be biting us now.
That doesn't necessarily mean playing on a PS3 will stop immediately though, only that whenever support is dropped, it'll be unlikely there will be any future expansions. So we might get some cool stuff in expansion packs, but the limitations imposed onto the core system of how things work would likely remain for quite some time after. As long as they have a high number of subscribers playing (and paying) on PS3, I can't see them really willing to terminate them.
People can so easily criticise a developer's decision to include or exclude certain functions and features, without genuinely looking at the circumstances and time limitations set around the development of the game. SE wasnt really in the best situation (financially and reputation-wise) when 1.0 flopped and had to be subsequently relaunched. Yoshi-P would have had very strict deadlines and restrictions as to what he would be able to achieve in the relatively short time he had to remake the game.
So, accusing SE of having a lack of foresight isn't really an accurate nor just call to make. They did what they were able to with the resources and time they had allocated to them as a last ditch effort to relaunch the brand (FFXIV) and rescue what reputation they had left with a disgruntled and disillusioned fan base. If you recall accurately, they had only expected the game to have 5-600,000 players at launch (stating they only needed 400,000 to maintain the game) so they really didn't anticipate the game being so well received (and this could be a lack of foresight or more them underestimating the hype they generated with the relaunch)
Jynx has a point because that same lame excuse is just there way of saying no without outright saying it. It just creates this false sense of hope. This is what happens when you build a game on shortcuts and downgrading your resources.
IMHO changing the game from 1.0 to 2.0 was the biggest mistake SE ever did. And before anyone asked, 1.0 was ported to PS3 albeit with complications but was never released so that PS3 Limitation excuse is really becoming their Scapegoat.
Well, some could say they could sacrifice PS3 support...
Last I recall, the quote was more like, they won't drop ps3 support before 4.0.
Not that they will drop it at 4.0.
Unless of course something has been said more recently that i've missed.
Wouldn't change much, because to me it seem to be more like designer limitation.
It is the same reason why they went from visible belts in the belt slot to invisible belt. Because it cost less time to design a belt directly on a body armor than to design every body armor around every belt that can added to it.
So instead of adding a face slot, that would end up working just like the current belt slot, they just don't do it and go directly to the hat+face combination designs.
While it's not exactly a 'pairing', I would like to see gas masks added the the game!
Some pieces from the very steampunk-esque sky pirate sets offer the same kind-of look, however I'd like to see proper gas masks! Big filters, straps and creepy eye holes!
Thank you.
I'm sad that this still seems to be off the table. I made this same suggestion 5 years ago, I guess it's still too difficult to implement. Here's to hoping they can reconsider this when they drop PS3 support.
It's unlikely they'd drop support any time soon, but even if they eventually did, all characters and gear would still have to be displayable on the PS3 version. Dropping support just means not releasing expansions for it. But the base game itself, ARR, is released for PS3, so all characters and gear that can exist within ARR areas will always need to be PS3 compatible. It's only features that could be limited to new expansion regions only that would be able to drop support for older systems.
You know, I'd like you to talk individually to each and every FFXIV subscriber who started on PS3, or on a PC with less than stellar capabilities and ask them whether or not scaling back the game's hardware requirements was a good idea. The PS3 work allowed them (SE's devs) to make a game that could play on a far, far wider range of PCs than would ever have been the case otherwise. Far from being a disaster, the PS3 support encouraged their developers to be frugal with their use of hardware in the game client. Another way to say this would be to say efficient. I'd rather have that than a bloated monstrosity that runs great on a 2016 mid range gaming rig, but runs like crap on consumer PCs and not at all on consoles.
