I feel like there should be a quest on "paper tanking" to prepare all Dps/healers for the inevitable moment in which they are forced to do it lol.

In cases like this, though, I usually try to, very politely, inform the tank that they are making mistakes. If the tank communicates, then I will continue to provide feedback for them as we go. If the tank blatantly ignores the chat box and continues to run amok, then it's fair game, as far as I'm concerned. I inform the healer (unless I am the healer) to prepare for some paper tanking.

I try, then you get some special snowflakes that pull everything, fail to hold aggro at all, get everyone killed, chew out the healer and everyone else, then go about how they are run selling and how they have a4s on farm and how everyone is worse then them...

I was thinking more along the lines of new tanks in low level dungeons lol.

When it comes to high level tanking, I'm willing to at least try to point out their mistakes, but I typically know that it's a lost cause. 60 lvl's of bad habits and a bad attitude to go along with it is not something anyone can fix in a single run, and there is a special breed of bad habits that are taught to tanks at level cap and perpetuated by the community that are difficult to get people over.

One example that we're all (probably) familiar with is speed pulling MASSIVE groups of mobs even when the party can't handle it. I wish I could say that it's purely a Tank issue, but a lot of tanks are actively encouraged to do it by d***head Dps who run off on their own because they don't think the Tank is going fast enough, regardless of how fast or slow things are actually dying. I can't count how many Dps I've seen in dungeons who have run off ahead before the current mob is even dead. They somehow think the tank is too slow... yet they haven't even finished killing what the tank pulled. Sometimes you get one or two who have the gall to inform the tank that they can pull bigger, as if that will make things go faster. Newsflash, if the Dps are slow as turtles then it doesn't matter how big the pull is. Sadly, I get the impression that a lot of Tanks are sucked into this "race to the finish" mentality and form some seriously bad habits.

This coming from a PLD main, I used to be of the same mentality as you, that DPS should also watch their hate (which was actually a super important mechanic that I loved about FFXI), but after some time I've come to the conclusion that DPS in FFXIV shouldn't really hold back on the damage they do, even more so if they have something like Quelling Strikes. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but your Co tank is letting you down.

If you are main tanking, something inferred by your comment, then he should be doing no more than one aggro combo per 3 rotations. The reason he rips threat and the reason his dps is low is the same.

Too much rage of halone. Apply debuff then use something else as ot.

To those saying the monk should throttle his dps.

Not in this game.

Sorry, but unless we are talking dungeons and easy mode fights here that dps is there for a reason. These fights are designed with dps checks in mind and the higher the damage the faster you get out of there. Lowering that damage isn't what needs to be done here.

The tanks need to solidify hate with the tools available. Even in 2 fending a 210 dps won't rip hate of a pld that knows what he is doing.
