Again, I can't claim to speak for the JP playerbase, but while we over here are screaming about content being 'same old, same old', the JP playerbase may very well be perfectly fine with it, and may even get upset if things change too much too quickly. We ask for things to be different. Over in Japan, if something is good, all they ask is for more of the same.

Brutal honesty time: I don't mind the repetitive content. It feels nice, knowing what I can expect, and if I enjoyed it before, that I'll likely enjoy it again. The caveat is though, I'm unusual in that way. I used to be a game tester, which at its worst was the definition of mind-numbing repetitiveness, and I loved the job to absolute pieces (a pity transportation issues forced me to quit or I'd still be doing it).

This isn't the first change of status quo that the game has survived.

Remember that fun thing that some people used to do called "raiding", with a thing the ancients called a "static". That was a thing once? People said it wouldn't die out or anything if they made the rewards largely irrelevant. They were right, right? I want to still believe that these beings called "raiders" yet exist. I have heard whispers of legends of people that still do in fact "raid" It's a story that has been passed down much like the story of gods of legend. I know in my heart that a few of these legendary "raiding" creatures must still exist in some frame of reality(though it might be a alternate dimension).

Now the grindy type of content that a larger group of people enjoy doing has had it's rewards made largely a vanity quest and irrelevant too. I remember when those weapons were king too. I remember when raid gear was considered godly. I'm sure some people will manage to finish this quest... just maybe. And if not, maybe those people that once did can rise to the stories of legend just like those heroes called "raiders". They can be stars up in the sky that we point to and show our children as a reason to still sub.

Game won't die. Sadly these changes are what the masses apparently want.

The problem is old players with old accounts you have done everything. People joining this year well they have tons to do still. Sorry buy legacy players dont make up the majority base anymore. There are tons of new players daily that will have ALOT of content to go through.

When you have maxed out every job at 60 then ya I can see why you would be bored. Perhaps its time to move on as you aren't interested anymore. But your disinterest does not speak for everyone else that still enjoys the game for what it is and doesn't hate it for what it isn't. Thats on you.

So much for the "japanese like to stick to the same formula". And this is also a trend, they don`t live in another planet or anything. Every questionable content update this game has had (hunts, atma, light farms, exploratory missions, crafting and gatherer trashing) japanese forums react just like us, they hate what devs are doing. And thats another signal towards the almost fact already: They don`t care. Not for us, for the japanese or the european player base.

At this rate the game will die sooner than later. They need to add new content that is not old content in disguise. We got new content but most of them are recycled content with the same routine.

Farm new ilevel gears, do raids and trials, then new gears come out, making the old sets outdated, rinse, repeat.

I read something like 20 "quotes" in that Reddit post, and no indication was given that it wasn't the same 5-10 people being quoted multiple times.

Personally, I haven't pursued the 2.0 relic quest past the Atma phase -- the gear from 3.0 ABSOLUTELY out-did any gear I could get from completing the entire Relic quest, as I didn't get to level 50 until some time after 3.0 was released. So, no grind-grind-grind for me.

By the time I get to the current 3.0 relic quest, I may go as far as the first step, but won't beat myself up about it. I've been in this game for about a year now. I also admit that I play other MMOs when I feel the need for a change.

This game is not a Way of Life, for me anyway. It is entertainment. When it starts becoming a second career, I'll look for something else to do.

I have played many of a Korean MMOs (F2P) and this reeks of F2P development. I have never spoken to a Korean in those same MMOs that ENJOYED severe grind like this in fact most hate it equally if the player bases were anything to go by.

The sole reason in the F2P enviorment these massive grinds are introduced, is due to both "the limit on game time" they have in most MMOs there (Fatigue system) and by doing these long grinds, they will require subsequent logins and the more you are logged in, the more money you will spend on the cash shop in theory via demand. By the same logic, It is done in a game like this to elongate the content and keep people subscribed for the lull period, which is pretty bad considering the income they get monthly.

I got 2 accounts, but what comes out takes no time and is no challenge. Its like, grind for this weapon and do what after with it? I dont mind gringing this is anal grind all old shit over and over no thanks.

I can keep myself really busy in game, doing non fun things

As for the relic quest thing, I gave that up a loong time ago because it was too tedious. I know if I didn't want to do anymore grinding, I definitely won't do a new relic quest just to deal with it again.

With this in mind, XIV will never be like XI. I don't know how good XI is since I wasn't in the MMO world during the time and I'm not saying that XIV is better than XI because it has its flaws-even though I still can't figure out myself what is wrong with the game like how most players are nowadays, lol. There's something for me to do every time I log in, but that's just me though.

I won't bash on anything;

Played since v1.21 onward and give or take some of the absolute hardest encounters I've cleared much of the content available and honed in on the things that I enjoyed.

I was waiting to see if Relics would give me a reason to get back into the game - and they're not. So I've cancelled my sub for the time being.

FATEs have been done ad nauseam, Old Dungeons are equally blown-out in terms of interest, and current endgame content was not fun when it was released. Diadem was fun initially but has devolved rapidly into content I'd rather avoid unless I'm paired entirely with a group of reliable friends.

What I am looking for is no longer present in FFXIV and so I'll step away until I see something that captures my interest and entices me to sit down and devote time to it. There is no doom here; but I do have a certain amount of gloom seeing the lack of creative growth going on with the expansion. I feel like there has been a lot of repackaging and copying done and that's just my opinion.

The way SE reskin the weapon is really hurt my eyes. I really hate the SCH book that looks same with Omnilex. Totally turned off for me :/

Okay, I've seen enough of the "it's for the new players! they'll have lots to do!" excuse. Someone list me all of the 2.xx content that new players can do without

-being told that it's not necessary so they can just skip ahead and maybe come back never
-entering the fight and then have 7 other overpowered players beat the fight for them in a couple minutes
-not being able to enter the fight because there's not enough people queuing for them

I want to see this number vs the number of total content.

While it is true, that asian players like grinding, it is not true that they like the FFXIV grinding.
The difference in most JRPGs is that you grind for progress while in FFXIV we are stuck on same level and are grinding outdated gear.

don't like how there is nothing new with the quest. we were told they'd heard our desires for attaining relic like 2.0...and yet here we are :(

Everyone needs to wake up and god damn see the big picture. There aren't going to be anymore major overhauls.

Of course it's not dying.

However, I do think it's in a very unfortunate place. FFXIV is all out of grace periods. Salvaging 1.0, learning things through 2.x patches, first expansion, first expansion patch...at this point I think it's reasonable to expect them to have their act together but I'm not sure even THEY really know what kind of content they want to put out. :/

If people have not realized SE designed this game for casuals, then they need to unsub. SE, at the end of the day, is a business and they have a target market, which happens to be their casual players. This has been very obvious from the beginning of FFXIV. Someone had stated, "Hardcore players make up a very small percentage of the population." Do you understand what that means to a business? Not a damn thing because those players are not making them money. All of the hardcore players could unsub right now, and the company would still profit. A week ago there were threads whining that the game was too easy and that everything was being handed to players without a challenge. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this community can't make up it's mind! No matter what SE does it's wrong. Really, SE may as well not even bother trying to appease the fickle whims of this community, as they're just going to fail no matter what they do.

And for those complaining that they have nothing to do, well, maybe you should have paced yourself more and not consumed the game like a five year old with a birthday cake - the old "it's not the destination that's important but the journey" saying once again rings true.

Oh, and for those who keep mentioning FFXI having 'lots to do', yeah, it's also had a huuuuuuuuuuuge grind far worse than anything FFXIV has ever had (remember the original FFXI relic quest? The original level grind? Dynamis requiring millions of gil to enter once a week? City story missions actually requiring you to grind battles to build up your reputation with that city before you could even be given them? And to say nothing about the stupid Trials of the Magian quest). FFXI for most of it's life was just one massive grind, and it's quite simply laughable that it's stated as being better than what we have here in FFXIV, because that simply is not true.

The first thing advertised is "six unique races and a multitude of customization options" Absolutely nothing related to endgame content is even advertised.

You're missing the point. FFXI's relic grind was huge yes... but what did you get out of it? A weapon the would be BIS for YEARS, a weapon that gave tons of stats and traits, as well totally new weapon skills. The reward was WORTH the grind. As one person long back on some post said "it broke the game how good it was". Now let's compare with FFXIV's relic: It will be replaced by other items with a better ilvl next patch. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

You would spend more time grinding for it than using it.

well i think the developers are in denial. yes they know some are not happy, but there was a few people supported the previews grind festivble of zeta and atma, and those people are also fed up with this this time around. i wonder when the developers will notice , this time around it's majority unfavor this grind of fates and old dungens for a relic and how unspecial the experience is, to grind thousdand of tomes and allied seals and silly beatribe quests.

I don't know how the game is faring, but I'm outta here. My subscription ends in a few days and I'm not going to renew it. Never mind the relic grind, I can't tolerate the idea of even one more Arboretum or Pharos Hard run, and am weary of floating islands, want to put feet on firm land again. If the keep on like this, it is likely. The lack of innovation and fun in things like the relic quest, especially with how long it took them to release it, can't do anything good for the game. It would be nice if they put some genuine effort into those things. Diadem is the same, its like fast food content, you get your fill, but its never as satisfying as a quality dinner. Where the content seems to be more focused on keeping us here by force, rather than by entertaining us.

End of life might be dramatic but "bleeding subs" is probably an accurate expression. The game isn't dying but it's naive to pretend it hasn't seen better days(/halfyears), and isn't pushing its luck with many

The Relic was such a disappointment. I think they are at the end of it life. Atleast 2.0 Relic was interesting and original. Killing Chimera, Hyrda, then Titan Hard Mode. Now it keep rehasing the same thing over and over again. Atmas pre 2.0, Dungeon, grind old content over and over, then a few crafting items? Really now.

I just log in and did a few Fates for Atmas, then I was like "Nope" then log off. Think I won't be subbing after end of this Month. At this point, it just rehas of the same stuff over and over again. Next 3.2 is probably gonna be 2 new dungeon, 1 new raid, etc all over again.

Sub running out in few days so i'm done until the next raid tier. If that fails to deliver its goodbye for real.

The new relic is not a challenge and it is not hard. It's mindless and it's brainless and lazy like so much that is being put out and I really question why the brainless grinding looks like a challenge to you. This is the opposite of challenging, and I'm sure me as well as lots others are not just speaking about the relic quests in here. This is just a final straw on the huge pile of straw that is already piled up.
