No thanks, old style kills without undersize.
You're assuming people want it only because it's rare and not simply for glamour. All you have to do is spend like a measly 5 minutes in Costa de Sol to get the new swimwear. That's not rare and all and yet everywhere you look, people have it on. Those people don't care about rarity. That content is entirely optional. They just wanted it because of how it looks.
I'm not sure about all the primal drops, but the Vortex Feather for example is like 1-2mil. For most players, that's stupid cheap. If people really wanted to, every single person could be running around with that weapon because the rest of mats are dirt cheap as well. But, again, most people don't because most people do not care. Even when they buffed the pony drop rate (which meant more people were running the content and getting drops), the weapons were still rarely seen.
I paid 10 million gil for a kingly whisker a few weeks ago. Seriously, just pay the gil if you want them, you guys only want this shit when it's no longer as accessible as it was when people were giving away inferno horns like candy.
OMG i got Kingly Whiskers from my retainer, are that rare?
And people paid millions upon millions for their relics, and now, or after the release of the expansion that materia was close to worthless. Along with the time spent on grinding out the weapon itself, even more so for PvPers who spent countless hours getting to rank 45, now anyone can obtain that set of armour with very little effort in comparison. Everything in this game is nerfed, if something wasn't to be nerfed, it sure as hell shouldn't be the primal weapons, but the PvP gear or relic. Why not all of it? It was suggested a lot of times, but again, people complained that it wasn't FFXI and so a huge amount of forum posters stood by their opinion that it should be nerfed because it's nothing but a glamour piece.
If people are really after a status symbol, I'd suggest going after Kirin or the ADS mount, they're quite rare even now.
I never complained about relics, since it was a natural process so new players could catch up if they ever wanted one. About ponies, the drop rate was abysmally low, and the only way to obtain them was through spamming ex primals like a complete madman. The PVP is a complete different story, it's only natural they only lock the latest tier weapons, to help people that start there fresh, it all has to do with a catch up process.
But a ******* primal weapon? I remember seeing hundreds of players running with these weapons back in the past, people did not care about them, because they were abundant. Now that there's a lack of them because people do not spam primals anymore (not at level 50 at least) now everybody wants these weapons. Basically, people will always want what's not accessible to them, this is so ****** stupid and childish. I'd say like half of the value of getting something is the effort you've put into getting that something, you take that away and you know what's the result? Everybody running around happy with their primal weapons on the first week and bragging about them on idylshire only to realize they are not so rare anymore -> which leads to everybody going back to other weapons because the uniqueness of primal weapons has been trashed and people even start discarding them.
I don't know what your server's economy is like, but primal weapons have retained their value here, 1 million before, and 1 million now. I haven't checked all that recently though. Mog weapons are still insanely valuable due to the lack of people running that content. But back on point, I find it funny that you say one thing is due to catch up, but this isn't. What is there to catch up to? Relics are now useless, and PvP gear was always useless, or at least in frontlines. Why did they nerf them? For glamour purposes, the same reason are asking for these to be nerfed.
I'm a diehard glamour fan, and I can tell you it's not about the rarity, not even in the slightest. It's about how they look, and how well they fit with the gear (I admit my Hive weapons don't go with anything I have, but they look cool so oh well). I still glamour my Zeta even though I see it everywhere. I still glamour my Arachne set, Ironworks set, previous primal weapons, etc. because they look amazing. Not due to their rarity of which there is none now. No one's asking for them to obtainable in 5 minutes, but it's not unreasonable to ask for their drop rate to be increased and/or added to the chest for unsynced play.
Please don't nerf them, they are glamour items and are already significantly cheaper than they used to be. OP just needs to learn not to be lazy and farm/grind like the rest of us.
I've done Garuda Ex 150 times. I only got 1 feather.
Yes, this crap needs to be changed and people saying otherwise should be ignored. This was already stupid when the content was new, and it's beyond stupid now that the content is old.
What should be done is that all primals drop a token of sorts that you can then trade in for a weapon/item/mount. Take the RNG crap out of this already.
They should either add those drop as a chest loot like the mirror from leviathan, or add a token like diamond dust to upgrade to the NPC.
I always wondered why the fuck do we have to lvl up craft for those weapons when the others don't need it. Mean if you hate the craft you just go fuck yourself.
You could just play the market like most people, get the gil and buy a feather, people want to nerf everything nowadays, if you want something work for it, like every one else who has them did before you. These items are glamour items and some of the best looking weapons in this game, they shouldn't be nerfed until new crafted primal weapons are introduced.
It's still too much I never have more than 1M5 gils on me, and a primal weapon shouldn't cost anything basically, 'cause it's primal weapon.
I already have a job. When I log into FFXIV I want to have fun, not a second job.
Grinding gil is not fun for the majority of the playerbase, yet it keeps getting constantly jammed down our throats just to please greedy players that want the rest of the server farming gil to hand to them. The Market Board has turned into a cancer for this game with so many things tied to it to keep prices high.
And most important of all, I did suggest that primal items should be bought with tokens obtained from actually fighting the primal, yet you are against it and want to keep this RNG crap in the game. You're apparently against people doing work related to the actual primal fight, and instead want to force people into farming gil.
Sooner or later those 'cheaper' weapons are going to go up in price as well as the existing horns and rocks and feathers and whatnot are used up and essentially no new ones are going to enter the circulation.
Do you really think people are going to run Titan Ex at level 50 over and over and OVER for ONE glamour? No, they'll either settle for the standard drop version or find something else entirely. The crafting mats for these weapons were collateral damage from stopping people easily farming other things, I sincerely doubt the intent was to stop THESE from dropping.
Everyone "farms the stuff/gil" because it's the only option we have and people like you defending this crap is why these bad mechanics are in the game.
Take the stupid RNG mechanics out of the game and let players obtain items with a reasonable amount of effort. 150 ****ing Garuda Ex's is not a reasonable amount of effort for a feather.
People did complain about the drop rate, and guess what? They buffed the drop rate. The bustier has gone from 20+ million to 1-2 million, and it's only dropping further. Couldn't be any happier myself. As Gilthas stated, fun items, like glamour shouldn't be gated behind long gil grinds, or the like. This is a game, not a job. We have enough grinds. Want to solve the RMt problem permanently? Stop making everything cost obscene amounts of gil.
this isnt about rmt lol anyway, crafting is a job and hopefully they dont nerf these drop rates. you could always sell primal runs and stuff if you dont wanna grind. make friends with a crafter or something.
rng will never go away, just gonna have to deal with it.
Gil is directly tied into RMT, so yes everything that's gil can be related to RMT. But anyway, I never understood why crafters had this obsession with controlling the gear of PvE players, especially when it comes to pentamelded gear being worse than high end raid gear (which is how it should have been from the start), PvE items should be obtained from PvE, and crafter/gatherer items, should be obtained from their respective things. That's a discussion for another day though I guess. Already have a few crafters in our FC I think, which are more than willing to craft stuff if I bring them the mats, but that won't suddenly make the prices of the Whiskers reasonable.
And one last thing, who's going to buy a primal run of Bismarck and Ravana at this point? They're both incredibly easy with i190 gear.
yes but this thread is about primal gear being hard to obtain because of the drop rate, not rmt. Ive seen pf's selling primals but i cant say how many ppl are buying. yeah penta meld gear is lower than raid gear which means not many ppl will buy it. now you wanna take away primal weapons and make it easier for everyone to get em. rip crafters
While I might be coming at this from a different angle in that I am thinking along the lines of desynth leveling, I favor the idea of making old primal weapons easier to craft or obtain for desynth leveling purposes. Desynth on all crafting classes currently has to go through two very hard endgame style grinds, once at what was before the level 50 desynth endgame process (materials required/crafted are still extremely rare to obtain) before can even get into HW desynths then once again at the 60 endgame level range have to go through it once more.
I think an alternative would of been to alter the 50 endgame desynth range to include new easier to obtain items to make getting into HW desynth easier, by proxy removing the ARR endgame desynth process...switched instead to a more adequate and reasonable transition from ARR to HW desynths leaving a single endgame desynth process needed to go through at 60 range. This alternative could solve the double endgame style grind of desynth on all DoH while also not effecting the drop rates and rarity of the primal glamour gears. Failing doing this alternative however, second best option for me would be making those items like described here aka primal gear or materials for crafting that ARR endgame range of desynth items easier to get.
No offense, but 1.5m suggests you don't even try.

"Constantly"? What are you talking about?
As far as I'm aware, unless you're heavily into crafting/gathering (which implies you're into making money anyway), or you want a select few glamour/housing items, nothing really costs you much if any gil at all.
While it's reassuring to know that my tax isn't going towards your sub fees, having to work for less common items is part of the games nature. If everyone could obtain these items with ease they would be less desirable. The primal weapons aren't exactly a short term investment either, I kept my Garuda book glamoured for ten months before I decided to switch to the Titan one. Thats the problem with a lot of the posters on these forums though, you complain about things taking too long and then make threads complaining about not having any thing to do, there's no pleasing you. It's not even like these weapons are in the top bracket of expensive items, have you seen how much the i180 crafted gear costs? These weapons have a far longer life span than the i180 crafted gear as well. Go grind the fights, work the markets like the rest of us, once you actually get your weapon it will have a lot more personal value because of the lengths you had to go to get it.
So you had options on where to spend your money and weren't allowed to have ALL THE THINGS, what a terrible concept. Some things are great because they are rare, we are talking about a Shiney glow on an otherwise easy to obtain weapon. It's just getting whiney now. They should definitely add it to unsynced runs to keep them in circulation, but we don't need tokens to add a Shiney coat on a primal weapon. There are already enough complaints about inventory space.
Also how do you complain about grinds then say you would rather have a zeta?
i would be so happy if the weapon i want would "only" cost 10mil the AST mog weapon is selling for 20mil on my server Q_Q and i gave up grinding the whisker, it never drops, they should totally increase its drop rate :/
It's only a glamour piece, so it's fine to nerf it? That's the wrong way around. Glamour piece recipes should not be nerfed BECAUSE they're glamour pieces. They are luxury items, and their cost should depend on what players are willing to pay for them. If you want a luxury item, you save up until you can afford it, or do other work to ensure that it gets into your hands.
The only time where it's justifiable for a recipe to be nerfed is when an item is NOT a luxury, when it's actually necessary or highly desirable for functional gameplay purposes. A good example of this was Stable Brooms, once horrendously expensive to create and yet needed by any home with a stable as they were the only way to keep those stables clean. Stables simply weren't viable with out access to this item. SE did, in fact, nerf the Stable Broom recipe, both by reducing that crafting item requirements and also by introducing an NPC that sells them.
The way the current system works for the item drops is terrible. Not only do they have an abysmal drop rate, but the fact that they drop at random into someone's inventory (and won't drop at all if you're running undersized) makes for some pretty awful RNG. I've run Garuda EX over 100 times and Ifrit EX probably well over 50 and haven't gotten a single item drop from either one of them.
There comes a point at which grinding to get a particular item becomes no longer fun, and the drops for the Primal weapons are well past that stage-- especially when you consider how easy it is to upgrade Shiva and Leviathan weapons in comparison.
Drop rate for zeta have been greatly increased. When you need 150 run for a primal item to have an upgraded weapon, you can have 5 atmas within 30min or either 1-2 dungeons max for the zodiac quest loot. Plus, alexandrite are now earned 5/maps and a map cost 40 poetic tomestone. The longest part now is animus to do all the dungeons and fates for all 9 books.
Why can't we have nothing rare in game? This mentality, where did it come from?
Wait, I'm a little confused by this. Are you saying you don't want there to be anything considered rare or difficult to obtain in the game? If so, I can certainly give a response to that one as to why there are rare things lol. It came from our biological response. Anything we don't immediately have, we want it even more. This includes, but is not limited to, survival necessities and purely desirable useless things. People want fancy things that not everyone has because it makes us feel special or it does something for us in a specific way. Animals, such as certain birds, will want shiny objects to pick up and store away somewhere simply because they want it for what an unusual and attractive thing it is (most will defend this thing against others that try to take it). For this game, that reaction is simply taking on the form of digital aesthetics.
The items from Ifrit, Garuda, Titan, and Moggle are the only ones that make the weapons that's why. Everything else is pretty much only used for a few things (or just a couple). If those other items were used to make gear of some kind, they'd most definitely be up there with the others in value.
