Since when did realistic and fantasy become synonyms? I always thought they were opposites and last time i checked i'm playing Final FANTASY. Not Final Realism....
Oh and to those of you saying it doesn't match the current style of the game, well no s$#&, they are trying to move away from the boring design people complained about. Trust me when i say that the style you saw will match very well future gear.
really cause the sword on the right is called brotherhood and it glows blue alot more then the ifrit ones glow orange. heres a link to it glowing.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fijdbZf1vZs

So many people..
Quoting people who were not replying to them!
Insanity! Insanity!
Sorry, you shouldn't speak for everyone. If you read through all the threads, more people are happy with the designs. I still don't see where people get the idea that it looks like WOW. The weapons are a lot more detailed in this game. Etc. What I do know though is some players want this to be a FF11 clone. That's fine but just go play 11 if you want that style.
good freaking hell this is a fantasy game. I think the weapons look great. /facepalm
Crab bow is nice and stylized. Its a bit bulkier than a normal bow, but it has a good look, it doesn't look like I will fall forward trying to wield it, like with the way the infrit one does. They could have used that as a base for a max 'thickness' or whatever.
I think it would have looked better if it had looked like it was made from two of Ifrits horns the tips pointing away from where it would be grasped and then having the base of the horses fused to some other material as the hand grip. The string could have been red as well (made up of ifrits muscle/tendons)
Imagine this bow, but with Ifrit skinned horns, red and black and glowing.
If I can stab/slash/smash/hit/bash/pow/mangle/shoot/pummel/discombobulate/destroy/annihilate/burn/freeze/electrocute/choke/hang/concuss something with it, it's fine by me (b'.')b
in wow they just put a bunch of glow around a weapon or armor to make up for the lack of detail. the ifrit weapons definitely have alot of detail and are not overcome by the glow.
Shouldn't the look of weapons match their power? Which makes more sense when you think about a very powerful weapon... a over sized, glowing weapon that looks like it is straight out of hell or a simple, plain wooden bow? I mean if i were to see these 2 face off i know for sure which one i'd put my money on!
It's just so funny to see people who know almost nothing when it comes to aesthetic or design. How many of you actually care about he way things look in life? I base most of my life and future career by how things look yet we have dudes wearing over sized shirts with long scragly hair and girls wearing gladiator sandles complaining about how things look in game. Can any of you truly represent or back up your complaints about the gear outside this petty thread? I doubt it.
Basically:
Bulky =/= fantasy
Most gripes are not about the style but the size of the style (which I agree wholeheartedly on some of the weapons), that bow looks like it shouldn't be able to be lifted its so big. As far as looks go, well just look at Ifrit, look at a dead Ifrit, then look at those weapons...
We killed him and used his body to make those weapons if you still aren't getting the idea I'm trying to place in your heads
The art makes total sense, the player to weapon proportions however, do not.
hmmm. very polarized. I always thought of the Impending doom (Final) and Magic/chocobos/lure (Fantasy) to define the series. Some of the games have highly stylized art some more traditional. I think the knee jerk reaction comes from how much those weapons "POP" against the rest of the game style. This is ok for ultimate weapons, but for a level 50 (in my head i forsee this game lasting 15 years and everyone being level 100) it seems excessive for just a prime battle. Ok I think that's what my problem is.... I don't match the epicness of the ifrit battle with the epicness of the weapon design lol.
is it me or most of the replies here are in favor of the new art sytle and yet the OP claimed it was the other way around? shut down thread please!
Size is an integral part of the style, but it is good to specify what is meant.
I like the actual theme but they went too far with it.
Well Ifrit is quite a bit bigger than our characters, so if we did what you have hidden there it would make sense if it was a bit bulky... look how huge he is! :D
I mean seriously... if you take a Deer, a Ram and a Moose and used their horns etc to make something all of those items would be a different size too.
True but if something is too big we can always just use the smallest portion of the horn's tip to make the curve of the bow (for example's sake). We can always cut down on something that is too big (and logically if it makes more sense and easier to wield then we would in real life)
No one would be upset if the future designs were toned down a bit, but quite a few people would definitely be happy about it.
But to some people, simply the thought of someone criticising the dev teams efforts for reasons they don't happen to agree with is enough to demand the thread be closed.
It's not just one guy that happens to disagree with this direction. It's a real issue and people need to deal with the fact.
As far as size yeah I think the bow is quite large. I never understood what is keeping the H2H weapons from moving around since they aren't attached to the arm at all.
Roll a Lalafell and then get the weapon.
No matter how disporportionate it is then, it'll never look too big ;)
Betelgeuzah, it's ok you get this in 2.0 http://www.instructables.com/file/FWF0I91FFEA6XGN/ fantasy at its best. ;)
Sorry but i don't want natural or realistic in a fantasy game.
It seems very balanced in a sense to me, some love it, some like it, some don't. So which direction is correct? Everyone has an opinion, but we can not say one option has superiority over another because then we put down others for their opinion.
It seems to me for as many who say they don't like it... people are also saying they do. :)
It seems to me that for as many people say they don't like it, just as many are saying they do.
If the OP doesn't like the weapons (or anyone else for that matter) they have the right to say so, but so does everyone else who is neutral or disagrees.
Everyone's option is an issue, and everyone else will just have to deal with the fact that people will agree or disagree or move on. If people don't want their opinions criticized and/or agreed with then they don't have to post them.
I think it's time for Square Enix to open up the floodgates.
Glowing, pink angel wings? ✔
20ft long sword that transforms into five other swords? ✔
..Who needs a consistent art style!
If it were balanced threads like this wouldn't exist.Quote:

Hey remember when Yoshi said you can play the game the way you want just do that then. Don't fucking use them if you don't like them, that's all it is to it.
As an big fan of monster hunter i love the style and i feel that's where the inspiration came from and i am sure the jp loves this cause monster hunter is a huge game there .
I said this in the other thread so ill say it once more... Just because something looks big does not mean it weigh's a lot....Example Two handed swords they actual weigh in @ 5 pounds "The more you know" *shooting star and rainbows*
Depends on the sense.. people who don't like things tend to post more. If I don't like something I'm going to let SE know because this forum is for feed back.
But on the flip sense people who do like it, or who do enjoy the game will not post as much or make as many threads. This is due to the fact that they like was SE has done and don't need to post to complain about anything.
Therefore forums will always have more negative threads than positives.
Same premises as in RL people are more likely to call Customer Service to complain about a company, than to compliment them. :)
