Ifrit Fight

With the size of the Esper's I am really doubting we would have them as summon's or else they will be funny looking mini version's of them. I am curious on how the L30 and L50 will differ from each other. Maybe just HP and Stat wise for Ifrit but I think it should have different cutscenes... Like the Imp's only come for the L50 version... because I know some people wouldn't mind if they are new coming in to try it at L30 and then once they get L50 to try again for a higher difficulty... Only time will tell... I am so excited to try this out.

Sorry for the arguement, It was petty but meh, like you said YAY IFRIT, and chocobo's and airships, and no physical levels, and 1.19ness lol... now if chocobo's did die... I would want to bring them in to the Ifrit and cook them and eat the chocobo meat for a speed boost :D lol....

The fight looks sick, The animations look sweet. Ifrit moves hell of fast.
But what really made this game look lame...
Was the incredibly slow paced actions executed by the characters and too much time spent slowly buffing...

Everything looked sluggish, laggy and non responsive. Ifrit on the other hand looked real time and is a PERFECT example as to how fast paced/actiony FF14 battles should be. That would make one hell of a Final Fantasy game.

Not to jynx us but anyone else surprised we havent seen a giftuser post recently? I think he finally went to far again and got censored AGAIN >.>

Well even if he does post, it's not like anyone is obliged to take any notice of him. Personally I don't see what everyone's problem is with him but I guess I just see things differently.

How can you tell something is non-responsive from a video? Was there a video within the video of a person hammering away at a keyboard and their abilities not going off?

The archer (the only PoV we got) was leaving most of his abilities left untouched for some unknown reason. Probably because he was more focused with getting a video of the fight. Also people having so much HP might be from the attribute reallocation, or it might just be for the purpose of taking the video.

Wouldnt be a good video if they amped the HP just to shoot the Video, because if so, why have them get killed at all? or 1shotted? Or show damage if its pointlessly out of context, would show false balancing, could mean fight is stupidly easy.

Doubtful, its probably all correct but yes they most likely was not spamming because theres no point.

Another reason is we watch a thm do Raise. Most slowlest and boring skill (as no animation) there is. Then the archer is just standing around haha and then the thm targets and gets 1shotted XD

Not the best way to show it but you are all focusing on ifrit anyway.

Can someone who can translate Japanese have a look at the text from the Garleans at 1:37 and 2:00 (right before he first he beam)?

It is a preview of Ifrit not the group that is fighting them. They didn't say:

"Here is a video of Ifrit and be sure to pay attention this great new slowed down/unresponsive battle system we decided to surprise you all with! This is how you should all play after 1.19, we put together this crack team of players to demonstrate how everyone will be playing FFXIV from now on!!

Oh and this is also our secret way of announcing that everyone will have at least 2,000 HP from here on out."

So until we get the patch notes or the patch I don't think this is confirmation of anything. They could have upped HP because they wanted to control when people died (and maybe the people were dieing to early), they had the group die in the video (like in the Darkhold preview) because they generally save the ending for the players.

Hmm... so that has me wondering if the Ifrit fight is a 2 phase fight.... where you go in to attack Ifrit and then the Empire comes in and trys to take over and doesn't matter who is in the way and Ifrit get's away and in anger Darnus turns his attention onto us the players.... would be interesting...

Edit: Or we go to Ifrit to talk to him, Darnus shows up attacks Ifrit in the middle of our conversation, and ifrit takes us into his realm and thinking we betrayed him to the Empire attacks us.

Possible reasons for the extra HP

Materia + Removal of physical levels + new gear with HP bonuses + (gamemaster power?)

I didn't know Ifrit could look so damn badass.

Also, nice to finally see some completely legit spell effects. (´～` )b

They dont need to say it, that is just what happens, its happened in them all, they didnt amp the HP/MP in all their previous videos, why would this be any different. People do take notice of this, it would be a stupid move of SE to fool us especially when that exact feature (Stats) is the biggest update to the game thats been required in a long time. It would be one big troll.

It doesn't matter to me whether we get an HP increase or not unless encounters are not balanced for it, and it trivializes content.

My comment was more directed at your take on the "new slower/unresponsive 1.19 battle system" which you pulled completely out of the blue simply because that archer wasn't doing much during the fight.

Btw super excited about the update....was hoping it was the 30th cuz my mother in law will be here on the 4th lol. Oh well time for her to experience ifrit!!!!!

Looks like a fight out of WoW almost, great stuff finally a fight where people don't just stand around using the same skills.

He looks like a re-skin of one of the current beastmen models in the game.

In terms of the fight, looks like a sub-par fight compared to what we have nowadays in WoW and games like it.

Agreed it does look less dynamic but its still a step in the right direction, hopefully as the dev progress with boss encounters they will get better at coming up with interesting fights.

So I take it nobody else thinks that this entire ordeal is slightly disconnected from the main storyline, which makes the game itself seem that much more disjointed.

Pulled out the blue? First I am not the person you originally quoted, so you wasnt talking directly at me I chimed in to his defence and even yours. Yes; the archer wasnt doing much in second half but in first half he was doing fine but got unlucky. So dont say he isnt doing anything when hes spamming buffs but loses target due to ifrits teleport move.

The fight is slow, that has absolute nothing to do with spamming its the fact you have to wait for all these cooldowns and cant do much but auto atk. Where as ifrit is having time of his life with infinite skills no cooldown just flying all over.

It is part of the storyline. Your highest is only level 31. You'll see it in a main mission soon.

It is connected to the story, there is a main quest that features Ifrit which is linked to one of the beast tribes and the effects the Garlean Empire is having on them.

Except it is.

Of course, from what we've seen on Ifrit's first appearance, he wasn't exactly intent on fighting us. But maybe after whatever new storyline events happens now, we can fight him for several reasons, the three most likely being

A - Ifrit is testing us (which, by the way, is a pretty classic reason for summon fights in the series)
B - Ifrit was summoned to fight against the imperials, but for whatever reason went out of control and we must beat some sense back into him.
C - Ifrit was summoned to lay waste on Ul'dah and we must stop him.

The visual aspects of the fight look great, i just wish the battle system wasnt so sluggish. Obviously we caint see the whole fight, i imagine alot of spreading out and running away from aoe. Tank kiteing when traps are being spammed, that will hinder the melee ie. they probably wont be very effective dps dureing the trap phase.

30 min fight, probably only takes 10 mins to kill
Lots of Aoe damage, 2-3 cons
1 tank with fire resist and stacked vit and mnd
4-5 dps , prime conditioning and second wind would be helpful; self cureing will be a necessity

I've already seen the rank quest, and the only "battle" you do with Ifrit is one with words. The fact that you can fight Ifrit at rank 30 and 50 is in direct conflict with the main quest. Obviously there's information missing regarding this whole thing, but unless this is a sign of a story revamp(don't know how they'll pull it off if it is), the "main story", and thus the main conflict and one of the pillars of the game, is being turned into a disjointed placeholder.
