Rested bonus doesn't factor into quest experience though. And, honestly, rested is really easy to gain (Rest anywhere marked Sanctuary each night, most times, you won't burn out unless all you are doing is grinding fate mobs)

I have to ask what you're doing in your pastime to gain Exp. It sounds like nobody gave you any help in now to work downtime to your advantage.

I can't help you with boredom though, that's a subjective thing. Everyone is entertained by different things. For me, there's enough variance for me to enjoy the time it takes to level. To the point where I could ( and did) skip questing in specific areas and still not mind the pacing.

IDK how many hours it took me to get to level60, but it wasn't that bad. All MSQ, almost all SQ (have two open in last zone), two days of Hunts, Trials, Low Level, and less than 15 fates, also 3 (L) leves at level 59, only ran one extra dungeon at like level 57. I was 60 on the 3rd day.

Doing all the Side Quest on your first 60, is better than saving them for the second. I hit 51 DRK today it's just god awful boring (I love the job though).

5 dungeons is... grinding? I did at least 5 dungeons per level, probably more because I like to get the gear.

Dungeons are really good exp. Add in roulettes and hunts etc and I really don't see the problem.

I kinda expect them to raise the fates exp eventually in the new areas. I would like to assume they give crap exp because they don't want people farming those and ignoring the story and other side quests. Perhaps they will increase later on?

There are plenty of options to level quickly.

1) Dungeons. These are almost as fast as using the MSQ. All the time you spend running around, fighting, and watching cutscenes is not much shorter than just running a dungeon like the Vault. And if you do the Daily Roulette for High, Low, and Trials, you can get a huge chunk of XP in a very short amount of time.
2) Daily Hunts.
3) Challenge Log. Again, a huge chunk of XP to be gained very quickly by doing the following: Dungeons, Player Commendation voting, FATEs, Guildhest (just the 3 one, 10 isn't really worth it), and the first Levequest one (20 leves isn't really worth it unless you've been doing leves for crafting and use the last one you need as DoW or DoM).
4) FATEs if you're somewhat masochistic.

Completely disagree. I have been skipping all Side quests except for the Aether Current ones, and it doesn't take any longer than if I did the Side quests. In fact, it has taken me less time than if I did the Side Quests because I don't have to spend all that time running around everywhere and talking to NPCs. I fill in missing XP with Dungeons mostly.

Only if you don't mind taking weeks to level to 60. I did all my roulettes, a whole slew of extra dungeon runs and it still took me about a full week to level WITH doing all the side quests along the way.

My alt classes have nothing to do other than FATE grind until they can access new dungeons, then just grind them endlessly.

Huh... I did 1 and 2 star, Low, High and Trial Roulette, and I got about forty percent of the EXP I needed from level 57-58.

I think the biggest problem your facing is one I helped some FC mates of mine with. Stop looking at it as individual levels, and that each level is equal to ten levels. They said it would take as long as getting 1-50, and its living up to it.

Oh and these dungeons are actually fun to run, wouldn't mind doing the grind again. Just gotta figure out which class that's going to be.

Okay. Take a break. Let you rested EXP build so that it moves faster. Outside of that, you ARE going to grind. You are NOT going to get around this. Period. HOW you want to grind is completely up to you and what you can tolerate. People can tell you the most EFFECIENT way to grind, but it's still mindless no matter what. Your first job will be leveled PRIMARILY through MSQ quests just like back in 2.0(though falling short in the end again). Now you're back with the second job which gets Armory Bonus. How did we level now?

- Fate Grinding
- Hunting Logs
- Leves
- Dungeons
- Roulettes
- NPC Quests

You have a number of ways to get EXP now. However, the EXP gain is all fixed according to your level to prevent EXP Gain abuse. The BEST way for tanks and healers anyway, is to dungeon grind(actually DPS too, but you get the option of staying out long enough to Fate Grind in between). You will potentially average about 330-360k each dungeon run(Armory Bonus factored). You can also do Northern Thanalan Fates if the train is active and fast for about 21k each with Gorgimera and DD factored into occasionally(Forgot the numbers here). These are your two effective ways of leveling anything else. Don't want that? You can also do some Hunts to get a fresh of breath air. Leves too, leves these days are best used for your crafts and gathering classes IMHO.

That's my advice. It's EASY to level. It's just long and mind numbing if you want to shotgun it. It takes 1 day of straight grinding to get a job to 50. About 1-2 days to get it from 50-60 of straight grinding. It's all a matter of how much patience you have.

How? No, seriously. It's literally impossible to level a job purely on quests alone because so many of them are gated behind MSQ, and so many others will be higher level than you thus unable to turn in for rewards. I know, because I did this.

By the time I hit 60 on my White Mage I found there were tons of new quests which had arrived as a result of me progressing through the MSQ and other sidequests. Most of which, I can't run yet because they're higher level than the jobs I have.

I currently have three other jobs at 52. These include Paladin, Black Mage, and Bard. This didn't take me too long on the face of it, since running dungeons and daily quests earns you a significant amount of XP. I'll probably be doing the same thing to 60 on each of them, filling in with the extra sidequests both to ensure the XP doesn't go to waste and to explore more of the lore behind the game.

Sure, it's not going to happen overnight, but that's half the fun. If you don't enjoy grind, then don't grind. Sit back and let yourself level up more naturally. There's no rule that says you have to have every job at max level within the first few weeks of the release. Or any other time besides.

I'd sooner dungeon grind all the way to 60 then do another "look for X" genric side-quest. Neither of these options are fun TBH, but at least dungeons are interactive.

Except i hit 60, switched to my 50 BRD and started doing the early Cloudtop Side Quests ...

Stop perpetuating the myth that you need to do every side quest ever in order to reach 60.
Supplement quest EXP with HLR and LLR. FATE when it spawns next to you. Its not Quest level EXP, but why ignore a free 20k xp? Daily Hunt bills, a few 3.0 Dungeons here and there and suddenly, you're 60 with stuff left over. Hell, i hadn't even done a single Sightseeing log, so i've got all that for my next job too.

Oh and lets not forget the Large Scale Temple Leves. 100k exp at 58 in a very short timeframe is pretty good. Hell, even just doing a few standard Leves here and there on your main job helps a lot...

I've been doing the daily roulettes with my WHM since 19th until 25th, so that's 6 days worth of roulettes. From the 25th, since my PLD has dinged 60 and gets Law from some of the roulettes, I've been doing the Ex/High/Trials roulettes with my PLD, saving only the Low/Hests roulettes for my WHM. I've also been doing all the C rank hunts with my WHM since the 25th for the EXP, so that's 5 days of hunts EXP.

So in summary:

• 6 high/trials roulettes
• 11 low/hests/main roulettes
• 5 days of hunts

and my WHM is 57.

The main roulette, for example, gave me 240k EXP at level 56. The three ranks of hunts per day total about 300k EXP flat. Trial roulette gives about 90k~100k EXP. Leveling roulette I've never really checked if different dungeons result in different EXP bonuses, but a healthy dose, too.

It's ridiculously easy to level additional jobs, unless you try to do it all in one sitting.

PS: My PLD finished every single quest available (including those that took me back to 2.x zones) and had enough EXP to just ding Lv 60, but since I've been helping out FC mates with their dungeon runs so they can carry on with their story progression instead of sitting in the queue for half an hour, I had more EXP than I should. So yes, if you never touch the roulettes, all the quests together plus one run through each of the new dungeon is not enough to bring you to 60. But seriously, unless you specifically saved those roulette bonuses for your other jobs (like what I did), there's no reason not to do them.

I love playing my MCH. I don't play on the bleeding edge of content though. My DPS has been on par over all with most classes in dungeons. A bit less at times than MNK, ass kicked by NIN usually. I get a lot of commendations though, whether out of pity or appreciation that I actually do well considering the perceived gimpness of this class. People love my TP regen and awesome AoE. I would love more potency and the total elimination of GB, but the class is fun. Way more fun than my MNK.

I'm lvl 59 DRK at 500k XP in. Probably did only 10% of the sidequests. Maybe even less considering all I did for sidequests were flying node unlocks (which usually only needed 1 extra prerequisite) and a handful accidental hand ins. The rest were MSQ, daily roulettes, a little bit of fates, challenge logs.

Yeah, I could have been lvl 50 like 5 days ago or something if I just hardcore rush and ate up everything quests wise but as I see it, those 5 days of roulettes are an alternative to sidequests. Paced, but replenishable. Sidequests are not, and should be devoted to roles that cant get into roulettes easily. I aim to have drk/war/drg to 50 'asap' and the side quests will go to drg (drg already ate up all the 50-51 western highland quests and is 10% away from 52 and have a boatload of lvl 52 quests in tailfeather waiting).

If the 3.0 content is enough to get me 2 or 3 combat class to 60 before having to resort to pure dailies and weeklies and fates to level the rest, I think that's good enough. Just pick your first 3 jobs carefully and level the rest at a relaxed pace.

If you aren't having fun, unsub and come back when you feel the need to play again. There's other games out there.

They do have one actually, but you get it at level 58. It's vulnerability up (magical or physical depending on turret used). You probably never saw it cause the tool tips change for the turrets once you get hypercharge (that's the skill that turns on the debuffs) and you never took it that high. Even that buff wouldn't make up for their damage likely being less than bard, so you aren't wrong about that. It's really hard to say what damage it does since I don't think the game mentions what damage some skills are hitting for. If you just go by the threat meters in game though, and add 15% for the pet, it does seem that it's the lowest that I can tell though.

Quests aren't even efficent for leveling once you have an armory bonus.

I honestly thought leveling to 60 on alts would be bad but it's really not that hard. Level to 51 through north thanalan, it takes 3 to 4 dusk vigil runs for 52, 3 or 4 more for 53, then you do some sohm als... It actually goes decently fast, don't give up yet.

Hmmm, I only did 1 areas side quests to get to 60 and even then there are 3 more there. I helped out friends on their first dungeon runs and that helped me push the level when i was locked out of the next MSQ.

I have a second job to 51.5 just by doing my daily 3-1 star hunts on it.

So its pretty painless so far in my humble opinion. I think if you want it now (now, now!) then it will make you stressed out.

Leaving a handful of sidequests for a second class isn't going to do much really. 5-6 sidequests that give 30k exp each isn't going to make much of a dent when you need 3 million exp till next level. They should look into scaling the exp rewards in line with the amount of exp needed to level I feel. FATEs are giving a significantly lower percentage of experience needed to level than they were pre lv50. The Challenge Log bonuses are giving the same amount of exp you got at lv50 even when you are lv59. I haven't tried a battlecraft leve so I don't know what they are doing. Saving sidequests is a really insignificant contribution.

Idk about you but I have all my sidequests left in azy la and tons int he other zones. Thats after spamming them to get flying in every zone. I dont think people understand that once you get to 60 on first job you get a BIG exp boost for any second job. Fates give more,quests give more, instances give more!. Play the game and you will lvl!

the higher my level, the less quests i did in the areas before moving on. I barely touched Idleshyre and i'll be 60 long before i finish even half of what Azys probably offers. As a DPS in Heavensward, i'm looking at nigh healer-level queue times. There's really no reason to stress over quests at the moment.


As for the OP...you're mad it takes time to level your character? The expansion hasn't even been out a month and you're already capped. Quit with the leakyface.

FFS people will whine about everything. Next they'll be asking for cash shop EXP scrolls, and then complaining when we get them.

I have got all my jobs to 50 before expansion and I used all my quests up on my WHITE MAGE (which is my main since 2.0 so I'm happy with that).

My problem is I feel the new dungeons in 51+ don't give as much exp as you think it would. I'm talking about dungeon exping only because that is my preferred method. I really don't like doing HUNT or FATE, just my personal preference. Having to do a dungeon with armory bonus 5+ times per level seems a bit much to me. Maybe if SE could boost the exp gain just a bit in the late dungeons I would be happy. Especially knowing the exp curve after 50 is insane.

yeah the way they did flying is frigging awful, the currents should ALL be on the map and none should be locked behind damn story quests (they are mostly side quests however, you need to be bascally (or completly) done with that zones story before they show up at all). Not to mention in squares stupidity they totally screwed bards, our dps is crap now, we have lv 52-60 skills that are for the most part complete garbage, if wm allowed auto attack I'd be fine with it, but the dps loss on bard from autoattack is very noticable, and the new skills you get barely make up for it. Nevermind the fact we were already bottom tier dps. Its just gotten worse, even paladins can out dps bards now easly. The excuse "oh they can support" is not valid, other dps's have support ability too and they are not peanlized in base damage, or damage when using said abilities at all.

This garbage is exactly why square needs a public test server, if they had one this bard trash they did would have never gotten on the live server due to the outrage.

But at this point, even with every class at 50, minus the new ones, I think im just going to pick 2 or 3 to bring to cap, my WHM (almost there), then probably sch/smn and BLM, until xp gets changed, if ever.

Of course they will increase EXP in the future. Just like they did with ARR, the more end-game content we will have, and the closer we are to the next expansion, the more EXP we will get.

I agree and disagree. It does feel like very little xp is coming out of the new dungeon, save for Vault. But I believe it's because the mobs HP is very high in those dungeons. With a BLM, DRG, and myself on WHM spamming DPS (with regen/asylum so that I can), with full DoTs, Stone III, Assize Holy for stuns, etcetcetcetcetcetc it takes quite a bit of time to down a single mob. It extends the time it takes to kill and to get through the dungeon - and makes the return XP not feel worth it. Whomever created or spec'd the Vault dungeon had a better sense of scale, as far as mob is related, in my opinion.

However, I will somewhat disagree. This is nowhere near as grindy as the majority of Korean MMOs. As someone who's played the original RO since it was in beta (2001, I think?), where level 45-50 out of 99 (I don't think anyone ever got there at the beta point) with nothing but running around hitting monsters (and nothing else offered - no sidequests, no turn-ins, no xp boost food, nothing) for a sliver of xp was considered "OMG SO HIGH. MUCH GODLY. SO WOW.", this isn't even close. FFXIV give you plenty of opportunities to help yourself. Roulette dailies, hunts, foods for boost, Armory xp boost (after one job is 60), 51+ dungeons, FC xp boost abilities (heat of battle/heat of battle II)....

I WOULD include the new FATES and leves, but the xp on them feels negligible for, again, the amount of HP on some of the mobs. >_> But I haven't tried again since I 60'd WHM (currently distractedly leveling MNK). It wasn't too hard to grab noticable chunks of xp from the roulettes AND the hunts on my MNK.

on the other hand I barely did any of my sidequests, pretty much just doing my roulettes and MSQ and im actually over leveled for where I am in my MSQ. Will hit 60 before i even finish story..Careful planning and doing other things besides MSQ and sidequests will get you to 60 no problem. Of coarse now if I rushed to 60 as fast I could yea I would be in the same boat.

I didn't do any Side Quests past 53. Just MSQ, Daily Hunts and (Dungeons when I needed to fill the gap.) The Daily Duty Roulette is purely for mass EXP gain when leveling.

If you are refusing to do Daily Duty Roulette for EXP then you're doing it wrong. Also, Each dungeon run of your level or as close as possible, nets you 300K+ EXP by themselves and more from the Daily Duty Roulette.

The fastest way to level other job WILL be Daily Duty Roulette, Dungeons, and Hunts at 50. And you're doing older content because you're a good guy and helping people who aren't in the expansion yet and getting rewarded for it.

I feel like most people are missing the big issue here.

He leveled a job to 60, Machinist, and now feels as though he wasted his time and needs to level another of his 50 jobs to 60.

That's less a problem for anyone who has a job they like at 60 as you're not compelled to level another job, but when you've leveled a new job hoping that it'd be good and are left with... well, Machinist, you're a bit more heartbroken and the grind seems massively longer. Like you need to level 2 jobs to 60 just to have 1.

that would be better if the gear in Dusk Vigil and Sohm Al were actually useful and/or we had more free space to store it all.

It's actually not too bad to hit 60, I guess. I've done the math, and its around: 51-53: 9 Dusk Vigil runs, 53-55: 12 Sohm Al runs, 55-57: 13 Aery runs, 57-59: 14 Vault runs, 59-60: 6 Library runs. And that's without rested EXP or any roulettes or quests or temple leves (which are actually pretty good, the only problem is the amount of allowances used).

Plus, it's kind of fun to get gear as you do them. I can see it might be abit boring if you are leveling like, 9 classes though.
