And astro casts faster with the +5% cast time. Are we playing the same game? Astro's aoe is riding whm's ass, with the only drawback being the -5 less yalms on range, but I've already learned the range well and rarely miss people with it.

Seriously, are you the class designer for AST or something? Every time someone calls its effectiveness into question, you react like that person punched your grandmother.

Calm the hell down: this is a friggin' video game and it ain't worth getting this worked up about, and if you truly want to convince people of AST's effectiveness, you might try arguing your point with logic instead of insisting that they don't know how to play the class and have no idea what they're talking about.

It does increase the timer on the person you use it on, just didnt realize it came down to how long the self buff lasted. But because of the smallest detail I wasnt aware of in a job I have no idea what Im talking about? I played ffxi for 7 years, a game with a much higher skill cap, and have been main whm/sch since launch of this game. Maybe you could be a little bit more reasonable on your quick judgment of people.

Its just frustrating to have no problems with this job, and hearing nothing but good things/requests for sch/ast in raid groups. To then coming on these forums where the people are giving us a bad name because of lack of skill and practice.

I think AST needs tweaks, but just a few tweaks could hypothetically make it OP.

I understand being frustrated (try arguing that the storyline in FFXIV should be optional, lawl...), but no one really has sufficient data to say one way or another, and that data will be raid progression.

The post I linked above though is along the lines of what I suspected would happen, but again, only progression will tell for sure.

However, we know that tweaks are already coming. Spear not reducing cooldowns that are already on cooldown is actually a bug and they're working on fixing it now.

That ALONE will boost the hell out of AST, IMO. A RRed Spear will shave 10% off of everyone's cooldowns that are currently ticking. THAT is the kind of buff that makes the RNG worth it, mainly because EVERYONE has cooldowns (unlike damage, TP, MP or even needing mitigation).

Also, tweaks are expected at this point: AST, MCH and DRK aren't even technically "done" yet as the playerbase hasn't had time to go hands-on with them until now, and players ALWAYS make the best playtesters (I reported an AST bug myself, which is now being worked on).

And I'm sure they shipped all of the new classes a bit on the nerfed side. Otherwise, they get over-rolled and people scream bloody murder about how OP they are (the concerns about AST right now are NOTHING compared to things like, "OMFG SE!!!! NOW I HAVE TO RETIRE MY WHM!!!!11!!!" or "WHY PLAY WAR WHEN DRK DOES EVERYTHING BETTER!?!?!?").

Again, I think it's going to need a bit of tweaks to get to the point where it needs to be for raid content, but I absolutely do not want to see them increase the healing potency because that would homogenize what's otherwise a unique and bold class design.

You conveniently left out Divine Seal, Asylum (oGCD regen field. The one you can place and still cast spells with) and Assize oGCD 300 potency AoE cure (doubles as a 10% MaxMP restoration tool).

That's great that you're having success with the class and I feel that the issue in these forums is that some people want the class to be WHM with cards. The problem here is it that its card effects are too impotent, the mana sustain is god awful and it has two curing cooldowns (I'm fine with this weakness) and both are based on single targets.

I love the hell out of this class too but you can't deny that it's a tad bit weak in the healing, buffing, mana sustain and DPS department.

Just a small correction. Synastry doesn't give 50% extra healing. The thing it does is, whoever you cast it on, will receive half (50%) of the healing you do on any other target.

Without over heal and purely Single target healing : it's a 50% exta healing. I think that's what she meant to say ^^

50% extra healing in total. (100% on person B, and 50% on person A)

Oh my, this thread...

It's a great utility spell on a 2 minute cool-down. It's a fairly strong ability especially when used right, but it's far from being too strong.

That's... not how math works. Functionally, Divine Seal increases your Healing per Second by 30% regardless of how many targets you have. Synastry technically increases your Healing per Second by 50%... if you're not healing the Synastry target and you're not using AoE, which greatly reduces how powerful that 50% actually is. If you're trying to burst heal the tank for something in the rein of T13's Akh Morn, for example, Synastry does effectively nothing for you.
Synastry is really good, but it doesn't outclass the other healing output buffs at all.

The other reason Synastry isn't OP is simply because, in order to use it to its maximum potential without seriously overhealing like crazy, you need to be in a situation where a tank will be taking damage for an extended period of time while you'll also be tossing direct heals onto other players as well as it doesn't work for AoE healing, and if you're in a situation where EVERYONE is taking damage, you should probably be AoE healing instead of single target.

That's fairly specific in its nature. Also, you may cast Synastry on the tank only to realize moments later that the tank is taking too much damage to be saved by Synastry alone, meaning the ability will be wasted.

I'd rather Synastry had an effect like "25% of all healing done to the target is also done to a 15y radius around the target", giving us a unique but clutch AoE option. Or maybe they could make it a smart heal that healed the nearest, most injured player for 50% of the healing done to the target.

Right now, Synastry just strikes me as an ability best used when the tank is taking normal damage and some idiot DPS is also getting themselves killed, like saying, "Here, tank, have this. I need to go save this moron..."

functionally, Synastry only heals 1 extra target, and functionally divine seal works for all healing spells, aka AOE heals. So functionally Divine seal is way more powerful. You dont really need math to know that. Yes I understand that if the other target takes no dmg his effective healing is 0.

Yes, common sense is enough to know Divine Seal is better.
My initial complaint was your statement that Divine Seal increased the total healing of Medica by up to 240%. :P

I usually use Synastry on the idiot DPS, because they have less overall health than the tank does, therefore less is needed to get them back to full health. Also, they are probably taking less damage overall. It works well for me, that way I don't have to switch targets all the time, nor do I have to use an AoE heal for just two targets.

Not to revive a graveyard post, but you aren't even counting Asylum or Cure III. Also you may know the range, but the extra 5 yalms on each side of the heal is massive for savage A1 where the oppressors are so far apart and DPS are running around doing mechanics. I run a noct sect Astro since I have a Whm in my static so my Helios is actually stronger yes, but Whm just does so much more with a Divine Seal-Medica II that I am often acting as triage until they can get the party up or healing the tanks while they focus party. The +5% cast time translates to about a .1 second difference by the way, while leaving the recast timer the same, which is negligible since if you actually have to AoE spam you should pop lightspeed first. Just my two cents to this whole mess.

It is one of the few better abilities AST has, and even then, it isn't great. SCHs have a permanent Synastry on - their faerie. And it can switch targets too. No, given the cooldown and limitations of Synastry, it is not 'great'. At most it gives AST some limited form of passive healing, especially in Noc Sect.

Most useful for:
Healing both the MT and OT at the same time
Healing a DPS who is low on health while the tank is still taking heavy damage
