Umh, that looks more like an elabrate tricorne than horns, actually.
They still look like wolves to me lol.
I'll leave THIS here as well.
Dark Knight debunked!
Dragoon confirmed!
That thread wasn't visible when I posted this one. Aren't you bitter?
I've probably been an active member of this community since way before you knew of Final Fantasy XIV's existance, so you may want to shaddap :D
Actually you just confirmed that that weapon doesn't look at all like a lance, and looks a lot like a scythe.
Oh and the helm looks basically exactly like the FFXI dark knight helm (demon face), and absolutely nothing like the FFXI dragoon helm.
Final nail in your theory: The armor is called "Evil armor", evil has absolutely nothing to do with dragoons.
there is also the possibility that this is all an artist concept for cover artwork with absolutely having nothing to do with future jobs wearing what looks like a form of FFXI AF. I would think that since SE has been so anti-FFXI that they would make a very completely different looking "AF" for whatever actual unconfirmed jobs coming out.
Which, I'm not disagreeing with you I'm building on what you said, apparently means to the devs to introduce a concept over a concept instead of just introducing later classes with FF titles and cram as many 'jobs' into classes to prevent further growth for the game. So it would seem.
I do hope that these are the last of the jobs we see in the next few patches, and then they'll focus on introducing new CLASSES.
They didn't confirm ALL the jobs nor have they confirmed ANY of the actual end game gear. Just saying people get worked up too quickly over this. Wait for offical news.
I prefer to speculate myself into a furor. (furor? Is that even a word? I'm too lazy to double check so don't judge me if I made it up.)
As for what Oscar Wilde said, they have already set a precedent for implementing jobs which should have been classes, so who even knows whether they will implement more classes. They might just forego the whole thing and make everything a job.
Bard should have been a class, and now it's a job, so who really knows how they plan to reconcile this with the armory system and future class/job implementations. Obviously they've thrown all the rules out the window as far as jobs/classes are concerned.
Omg this looks awesome. Nastalgia is hitting me and I've never played XI before lol
Heh, i get what you're trying to say. I'm just saying though, until we get actual confirmation on what all the jobs will be, it's pretty much anyone's speculation on what the gears represent. I just feel though that alot of those gears look very much like FFXI AF, something I don't see us getting. After all, wouldn't you want a different set of AF looking gears instead of the same or slightly tweaked version of FFXI AF?
That's just my thoughts, people get overly excited and then they get mad or angry because they think what they believed was going to happen does not materialize in the way they were hoping.
Not to mention this whole Solo vs. Party mentality we have going on, where jobs will be best for party situations I wonder...why? And how big of a party? these are things the team should be answering. Because on the topic again of Archers and Bards, why should either be better or worse in a situation? Isn't it all...situational? Does this mean for every boss we need to equip our Job?
The whole system just boggles my mind. It was supposed to be implemented for those who wanted the FF Flavour, so why in a way such as this? Why not in special artefact gear and class specific skills and split ups? Was it so necessary to implement in /this/ way?
And yeah who knows, my main concern is we'll never get another class. Everything will be quested for in terms of skills and that's not fun at all.
But, the artefact armour is really neat looking. I particularly like the white mage robes. But I'll like them even more if they're shorter than current gowns, billowy-er and with a different model. :> They are
cuuute.
Edit: Not all of it is speculation, certain points are facts because it's what the devs have told us. Such as jobs being for party situations etc.
The more I think about it the more classes seem like they will become pointless. Like glad for instance, once I have paladin I don't see myself ever using glad again. Maybe if glad lost the shield and shield skills and had dual wield with DD skills. At least then you would have two separate concepts. He mentioned dual wield on the last letter so well see.
When 2nd and 3d jobs come out maybe it will make more sense for the classes to remain.
oh the guy in the back is clearly holding a scythe
My mind is frequently boggled but I think (speculate) that the "Job" will be "activated" when we equip an Artifact Weapon.
Just like we change classes now by changing weapons, the Jobs will depend on the weapon as well. This is probably why they are switching to Auto-Class-Ability Action Bars so there is less fuss changing jobs and classes.
And just maybe, once the Jobs are unlocked by the required Class, we can switch to any Job from any Class simply by Equiping the Artifact Weapon (which hopefully appeases the "Do not lock jobs to one class" crowd) and besides the alternative is to switch to Gla 1st and then activate Paladin which is just silly and cumbersome.
It also makes more sense that if your Tank dies in a brutal fight, another PT member can "take over" untill weakness wears off. Fewer PT wipes from 1 key member getting KO'd (although unskilled and/or panicky parties will still wipe).
Or I am full of crap and horribly wrong...I often am.
I predict that for PS3 Launch, there will be at least 2 new Classes, possibly 3 or 4 and an equal number of new Jobs for the new classes for the 1st Expansion Pack (if relaunch goes well).Quote:

Its not a Dark Knight, its a Dragoon. Look up pictures of Kain the Dragoon. They clearly were basing the design of this armor off Final Fantasy's most famous Dragon Knight. When you do look, you will see what I'm talking about. Kain was a chaotic dark type of hero; His armor matched his alignment, this look just like him.
Classes = primarily solo play (since you will have complete freedom to place abilities anywhere for the most part)
Jobs = primarily party play (since you will receive bigger boons from the jobs that make you wanted in parties)
Expect to see all jobs have some sort of "support" function to them, Dragoon will be hate control, Paladin will be improved tanking, Warrior will be pure melee damage with no defensive abilities, Black Mage will sacrifice healing for more powerful magical damage, White Mage will sacrifice all magical damage for improved healing powers, Bard will sacrifice powerful ranged melee damage to provide both ranged damage and support.
On the flip side each class can do all of the above for the most part (with certain abilities acquired) but not to the degree of which jobs can since they will be restricted to just those mentioned tasks. This setup makes both the classes AND jobs relevant and not over-powering one or the other.
The "Dark Knight" that is performing the iconic "Jump" is definitely holding onto a polearm. I suppose I will just keep posting THIS until everyone can see what you cannot see (due to all the movement/clustering happening on the image).
Also using THIS image you can see that its a heavy axe as that blade on the tip is way to small to be used effectively as a polearm.
If ranger = bard how the f**k does that make any sense to you? Bard should be it's own job not attacking with song/ arrows that just dumb w/e i guess everyone who enjoy ffxi bard would even join ffxiv. at least i like how monk is looking :)
Sorry, but Dark Knight won't be around until Great Sword or Scythe weapons are released. :'(
But just think! If the DRG armor is this "evil and dark" looking then you can only imagine what the DRK armor will look like! :)
Everyone on this forum is so obsessed with FF staple gear.
All I see is a bunch of cool looking stuff. Does it really matter if it deviates slightly from your precious traditional vision?
Surely there are bigger issues than the colour of the Dragon Knight's armour.
I.e., the heinous Bard/Archer abberation that now stands before you.
It's a Final Fantasy game, and throughout the series there is an over-lying continuity between them (spells and jobs), people are not asking for much, and its really not too much to ask for User201109011315. If maybe the name was Fantasy Adventure Go, then I doubt the FF fan-base would care too much on the identity of the jobs/classes.
of course FF need to keep his strong identity , but some things can change...
dark knight was wielding sword in FF Tactics
Lancer has ferocity which was Soul Eater for DRK in XI
even marauder is like a pirate, did you ever see a 2 handed Axe on a ship in any movies or anime ?
At this point everything is mixed
You mean Marauder is like a Viking?
In that case, why yes they are.
But that is the why the job system is coming into play to "reorganize and familiarize" people with already known ideas/uses on these jobs to quickly set up parties (Jobs are being created for the party system while Classes are for the solo system)
^ *Facepalm*
Anyway, I'm seeing a Halberd in that picture too - 0MEGA_HACK's picture seemed to be fairly accurate. HERE
I was disappointed in hearing some people say drg, but now I'm inclined to believe thats Dark Knight and not Dragoon. The Dark theme is all over it, full dark/black color (contrary to the blue/purple armor or atleast shades of those colors in the armor), the spikes (too evil for the likes of Dragoon), short blades on waist (as per old concept art) and the weapon looks like a scythe(in the bow) which gives it away.
I will also say, i want to believe that is the case since i've been patiently waiting for drk since the start, i sure hope that turns out to be so, i'd be very content :D
